Thomas Greco’s fourth installment in the Jamaica Biltmore series, Dark Power, delivers a high-octane mystery that pushes both the character and his relationships to their limits. What begins as a personal family milestone quickly turns into a dangerous and deeply personal investigation that draws Jamaica Biltmore back into a world he hoped to leave behind. When political power, old emotional ties, and criminal networks collide, the stakes rise higher than ever before.

This time, Biltmore is not only dealing with a crime of enormous scale but is also forced to confront pieces of his past he thought were buried—making the case as emotionally complex as it is perilous. With his close-knit group of allies by his side, including federal agents and longtime friends, he navigates a twisting path involving stolen treasures, organized crime families, and disturbing historical connections. Each discovery only deepens the mystery, revealing just how far powerful forces are willing to go to achieve their ends.

Greco’s writing balances relentless pacing with rich character moments, allowing humor, loyalty, and sharp dialogue to shine amid the chaos. The narrative seamlessly blends family drama, political intrigue, and classic detective action, keeping readers invested not just in solving the crime, but in watching how Biltmore and his relationships evolve under pressure.

Verdict:

Jamaica Biltmore: Dark Power is an ambitious and gripping conclusion to the current arc of the series. It is packed with twists, emotional stakes, and dynamic storytelling that will appeal to fans of action-driven mysteries who also appreciate strong character development. Greco successfully delivers a thrilling finale that leaves readers eager to see what’s next for Jamaica Biltmore.

Jamaica Biltmore: Dark Power is my first outing with the quick thinking and determined private eye, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. From the calm and hopeful beginning, the book quickly takes a sinister turn and throws Jamaica into the heart of a deep conspiracy.

I like Jamaica’s call to action. Not only is it what he is trained to do, but there are personal ties to the case, and deep rooted histories between the characters to unpack. This keeps the characters concentrated and unique enough that their interactions and dynamics are strong, exactly what you want in a high action thriller like this. The governor's wife (Jamaica’s ex) plays a key role in bringing him into the case and the antagonistic tension between them was well defined.

The plot develops quickly and by the mid section there are twists and complexities added to the mystery that had me more than intrigued. There is a lot in the mix but the Tom Greco clearly defines what is happening so the reader doesn’t get lost in what is happening. Whereas a lot of thriller/spy novels can get convoluted, Greco manages the tension and complexities well meaning a reader can get hooked in both the action and the lot.

Too many characters, too many moving parts, too complicated a plot. And the dialogue was unemotional.

I feel that it had too many characters and hard to tell who was speaking. Once you got going it was too bad.
