Don’t trust anyone… at least that’s what the voices say.

Omegas are supposed to be quiet and submissive, not talking to monsters that no one else sees.

When I find myself on the wrong side of the law I’m sentenced to Dark Haven Institute, a place the judge put me to be forgotten. The broken omega who can’t function in society can’t be fixed, after all.

Only Dark Haven is nothing like I expect. This building has secrets that make my hallucinations seem like fairy tales.

My inner demons are getting worse every day I spend here. Something evil is lurking in the night and calling my name. To top it off, I’ve found my mates.

The only problem is that in order to form a pack, we’ll have to survive the hell unfolding around us.

Too bad no one survives Dark Haven.

If you like gritty plot, plenty of spice, enemies to lovers, and characters who are just a bit different, then you’ll love Reject Omega. Dark Haven Omegaverse is a series that mixes mental health and the paranormal world. Triggers include religious trauma, on page hallucinations, psychotic episodes, mentions of noncon, and violence.

This series was formerly Reject and has been bulked up and turned omegaverse, enjoy!

DNF at 52%. this is just such a horrible mash up of omegaverse and pnr. the characters have absolutely no depth and the plot doesn’t make any sense.the consequences of actions just seem thrown together. an absolute mess of a book.

No....just no

This felt like trauma porn written by someone who had never experienced trauma. Sexual assault of the main character occurs near the beginning of the book and it's treated in such a blase manner by all the characters. None of the emotions feel real. None of the reactions feel genuine. We're told what they're feeling but not shown.
Add to that that the love interest of one of the characters has been her companion/guardian since she was a child, and a myriad of other power imbalances, and the whole thing is just all sorts of uncomfortable.
The entire story felt like an exploitation of people with mental illness.

I am trapped inside Dark Haven Institute. And as creepy as it sounds, I don’t want to leave because there’s a hot AF demon half-breed here and he lets me call him daddy.

Harlow is a new patient to the institute and right away she’s greeted by nefarious being, Vane. Just typing his name sends shivers up and down my spine. But not soon after, she meets some other patients who take to Harlow right away. Hiro, the soft and gentle man, his alter Roman, the gruff protector. Drake the brooding a-hole with seemingly lax privileges around the institution.

Nothing is as it seems here at Dark Haven, there’s demons and gargoyles. A mystery to unravel and a bad man to fight off. The cliffhanger isn’t terrible, but it leaves you wanting more. It gives you that “wait, that’s it?” moment and you’re desperately trying to get more.

This book takes everything from the previously released series, it now adds more content and now has the omegaverse aspect added into it and honestly I think it made it better. I'm excited to essentially be reunited with Harlow and her guys and relive her story once more.

Definitely check out the trigger warnings

To start off with trigger warnings - majority of this takes place in an institution for people with mental illness. The representation in the book for the institution is worst case scenario. All the staff abuse or are complicit in the abuse of the patients. The head psychiatrist SAs patients on intake and during treatment. The SA is fade to black but referenced and recognized by multiple patients ongoing through the rest of the book.

The vibe of this book is Gothic horror meets Norse mythology. Early in the book is abuse within a Christian church. It helps set the tone for the rest of the book.

There is a variety of representation for mental health diagnoses and I thought they were done respectfully. Each character has their own struggles with their own mental health while trying to survive life within Dark Haven.

The MFC develops relationships with multiple partners and learns how to count on others for help. I enjoyed the character development as the characters learned to trust one another and to support each other.

The focus on Norse mythology was interesting and different from a lot of books in the genre. The book does end on a cliffhanger.

🖤Omegaverse Meets Paranormal
🤎Mental Health
🖤knotting
🤎 Possessive Mates
🖤MMFM
🤎Demons Gargoyles Mythology

Harlow a human who has survived abuse is finally sent to Dark Haven for individuals who have mental health issues. Harlow our FMC has suffered with hallucinations with the one constant being Monty who she has always though was her made up protector. When she is sent to the institution she learns that some of what she thought was in her mind is all to real. She also meets her scented mates. Thrust into an all new world that include demons and gargoyles and mythology. As if she didn’t already have enough going on.

I felt this was a slow burn. There some spice. This was full of suspense with not knowing what is going to happen next. Harlow just found herself in all kinds of situations and they are generally all bad (check triggers for this book).

This is a series and ends on a cliffhanger. Told in DPOV. This does have some light MM in the book that seems like it will build into more going into the series.

“You’re mine now, simple as that. So, pack up whatever attitude you intend to throw my way. I’ll fûçķ it out of you later, regardless,”

Rejected Omega: A Gothic Blend of Mental Health, Norse Mythology, Omegaverse and Paranormal

This is the first installment in the Dark Haven Omegaverse Series, delves deep into the eerie corridors of an institution for mental health. Each character grapples with their own mental illness, intertwining the paranormal with the struggles of the mind. Gothic horror meets Norse mythology in this chilling story.

The darkness in Dark Haven emanates not just from the confines of the institution, but also from the complexities of the characters themselves. As Harlow forms her harem, you are drawn into a world where possessiveness and trauma intertwine. Each member of the harem bears their own scars, fighting to survive while navigating their possessive tendencies.

Intriguing and unique, Dark Haven offers a fresh take on both mental health representation and paranormal storytelling. Those who enjoy delving into the depths of human psyche amidst supernatural elements will find themselves captivated by this inaugural entry into the Omegaverse Series.

⚠️ Check Trigger Warnings prior to reading if not jump in at own risk.

DNF at 34%. Where to even begin?
Firstly, this is a mix of omegaverse and Norse mythology with demons and Helheim- something the blurb didn't even remotely hint towards. The plot is a freaking mess, yall.

The FMC is raped near the beginning of the book and her demon mate just... lets it happen (it's proven that he can and has killed for her before). Like yes, he appealed to the Goddess Hel to kill the man who raped her but it was a halfass plea at best. Honestly the way that whole thing was handled was repulsive. Everyone knew she was raped and just did nothing about it and she quickly moved on from the trauma, I guess because it wasn't her first time being SA'ed? This feels like it was written by someone who wanted to be edgy but dropped the ball.

From a grammar point of view, the writing and punctuation is just bad. I had to read multiple sentences multiple times to figure out wtf the author was trying to say. Many scenes just didn't make sense because she tried to fade to black or did a crap job describing what was happening (the dissocation / reality flicker gazebo scene?).

Honestly, this feels like a kitchen sink scenario and I'd recommend skipping it entirely.

“Reject Omega” is the first book in the Dark Haven Omegaverse series, and a rewrite to a previously published series by this author. I’ve had the previous series on my TBR for a while, but once I knew the author rewrote it and added an omegaverse trope, I was exited to wait a little while longer until the rewrite would go live.

I really enjoyed this first book. It’s a dark omegaverse series, but where the darkness mostly comes from outside the harem. Even though the harem members absolutely have some red flags attached to them, they are amazing with their woman and I love their protective craziness. There’s a lot of mental illness representation, with a twist when it’s mixed with paranormal influences.

In full honesty, I have to admit this author’s paranormal work is usually my favorite, and she established that with “Reject Omega”. I love the twists and turns, how original this series is at times and the connections between all these characters. Add a bit of tension between the harem members, and I’m in RH heaven!

OH let me start by saying I Love Love Jarica James.

So onto one, like one star review in a looong time. If you’ve read the series love it, (are yelling at me via your kindle) I’d rather you not, but I’ll understand- she’s a great author and if you loved it you loved it!). Jerica James writes great books I bought this book (even though the synopsis sounded a lil strange to me) It came ! I opened it and went W.T.H. I mean it. Seriously I was scratching my head trying to figure out what episode and planet of GOT meets d & d we had landed on. Now Iove both d and d and GoT - but that wasn’t what I was expecting! So now there it some other portal while some other creature claims her as mate.. there is no explanation about her running the portal, her magic, heck who the heck she and the other “monster alphas are” in the first place or even what the magical portal is.

Horrible beginning to a group of SERIESS unfortunately purchased for me! :(I thank them for their kindness but wished I’d though better than to put these on a wanted list.

I’ve fallen in love with this motley crew of characters and this world that Jarica has crafted for us, questioning at times like them what’s real and what’s psychosis. These characters have lived through trauma, and Dark Haven is going to contribute even more to what they’re going through. When the man running the show is nothing short of a monster, how could it not? The upside is that they’ve found a family in one another, a kinship, and the bonds they’re forming also include attraction for some of them. There are steamy times in this first entry, but much of the time is spent setting the scene and getting to know our players, and I was here for every second of it. Each of them are unique in their own ways, whether it’s the battles they face, the designation that helps define them, or in some cases, the piece that makes them other. I can’t wait for what’s coming next!

Just because Harlow hallucinates doesn't mean she is Cray-Cray, I mean maybe a little but who wouldn't be if they had her grandmother. Oh and her bestie is her imaginary friend Monty, but Monty sure does like to pick and choose when he comes around, sure he is there for most of the important stuff but not all of it.
Dark Haven Institute is no Haven, this place holds more secrets than Fort Knox. Harlow's new friends are more, but how do you handle live friends when your only friend lives in your head?
Harlow is sassy with spunk but vulnerable is a way that the residents of Dark Haven understand all too well.
This is a great intro to these awesome characters and I can't wait to follow Harlow's story further into the darkness.

Uh. So, this was rape-ier than I was prepared for. Which is on me and does not reflect my rating, that is purely just for anyone who needs to know if they should avoid this series.
Also, it kept saying that one girl was borderline, but it was written like bipolar disorder. They do share some features, but nothing said bpd and everything said bipolar. Mania isn't super common in bpd, it happens, but the extreme mood swings were the primary factor for her and that is more a feature of bipolar. People with bpd do have mood swings, but they are usually triggered by life events/social factors and don't swing from extremes the same way they do in bipolar. It's not a huge deal, it just irritated me.

I’m not sure what to say about this book…told from all POV. There is very little world building for a paranormal. It’s difficult to tell what is a real mental illness and what is the paranormal aspect. This is supposedly an omegaverse, yet there is very little evidence of it. Seems like it is more of an afterthought than other books on that genre. The characters are interesting and the story is pretty dark and twisted…it just feels like it’s missing some key aspects that would make it a really good book. The title is misleading as well. I didn’t realize until the second book, that the author changed this series to incorporate the omega part after it was originally published without it.

Reject Omega is the first book in a dark omegaverse Trilogy, rewritten from a previously released series but that much better because omegaverse! Please check trigger warnings as this series touches on numerous heavy topics. Harlow and her guys have been through so much trauma but have still found the motivation to heal, with the help of each other. This book really lays a good foundation for the beginning of this series. It has a ton of tension between the characters and an intriguing storyline. I can't wait for the next book!

DNF. Sorry, but what the hell is happening in the book? I know this is dark but I wasn't expecting her to be raped and then the aftermath and how that was handled really bothered me. And then to find out her imaginary monster is not only real, but didn't come when she called him while she was being raped and was then he was pissy she was ignoring him after the incident. Then when he found out what happened he was mad more that someone had touched his toy not that she'd been raped and she would carry this trauma. And this is her mate? Dnf not for me.

interesting story, lots to keep up with

I liked the writing and the characters and definitely the story but it feels like having a mythology trope with an omegaverse mix is too much. It’s like a hat on a hat on a hat. Especially if you are familiar with Norse mythology or Omegaverse books, maybe read something else first from either genre so it doesn’t feel overwhelming! I have done both and it’s overwhelming me.

Wow action packed trope filled Omegaverse that had me hooked! Gothic, Mystical, Demons, Mental Illness, Physical Trauma (S/-\), Family Trauma, and more! But this storyline makes all these things hook you from page one! Harlow (FMC) is strong because she has had to be, but she is also ready to be loved on her terms. Finding her scent matches in the Dark Haven Institute was not on her list of possibilities, but neither was learning her hallucinations were not from mental illness.

This is the first book in a dark Omegaverse Trilogy and it was amazing. My heart broke for Harlow and her guy's. I've not got a favourite yet in the guys because I feel I will get to know them more in the rest of the books. Please read the TW for this book/series before you read. If you're looking for a book that will keep you hooked then this will not disappoint.

This is different from other OV books. This is dark and this is also a warning to read the TW before deciding to pick it up. The institution is a hell hole if there ever was one. It treats its patients horrible and now things might change. The pnr vibe I love with the demons and gargoyles. Great read.

better than I thought

Love this author for dark and quirky tales, Jarica never disappoints. Set in an institute for those suffering mental health issues, sharing space with demons, and dealing with the goddess Hel, FMC Harlow has a lot on her plate but her four mates help keep her balanced. Great cliffhanger. Solid 4 stars. Highly recommend.

This book has so many things I love in it : demons🖤, rh💜, found family 💙, asylum ✅ and gargoyles 😍. I love that a group of misfits find each other and come together as well as fighting demons and awakening gargoyles. I absolutely love Monty he is probably my favorite character but I think I'm going to love Kol as well since he has awakened. I just love gargoyles! 🖤🖤🖤.

A very well written dark omegaverse.
I find the story originally written, a very interesting and unique storyline.

Omegaverse combined with mental illness and the paranormal world.

Now on to part 2 of this series, in which I hope to discover even more about the characters and the unique world they have to deal with.

This is a first

This is the first time I have ever read a book where the omega has a mental health problem, supposedly, after the clarification it was all about hell, demons, and oh my god, gargoyles! I wanted to give it a four star because it was really slow, like slow, slooooow... I hate those kinds of books

Amazing first installment

I thought it was going to be a series of stand alones and much to my surprise it's not. Which made me breathe a sigh of relief when it got closer to 99% tbh lol. I'm excited to read more in this trilogy.

i skimmedthe majority of this book because I was bored, despite the Gothic blend of mental health, Omegaverse, and paranormal elements that would usually make me inhale a book in one setting. Did I finish reading it though? Yes, cuz i have this thing.
