Ju is a Burmese novelist, well known for her strong, intelligent female characters.
Despite her interest in writing, upon her mother's prodding, she pursued medical studies at the Institute of Medicine, Mandalay. She started writing while in medical school, and her first short story (ရာဇဝင်ထဲမှာမောင့်ကိုထားရစ်ခဲ့) was published in 1979. Her writing career took off in the late 1980s, with her debut novel, Remembrance (အမှတ်တရ), published in 1987.The bestseller novel stirred controversy for endorsing Western existentialist philosophy and portraying cohabiting unwed couples.
She has published fifteen novels (most of them were adapted into films), seven collections of short stories and seven collections of articles on the environment. She currently works as a co-founder of an HIV positive children orphanage and also a participant in the HIV/AIDS Media Initiative and Yadana Metta Foundation. Her writings now focus on environmental conservation.
3.5 stars I remember hating this book when I first read it when it was released. I used to think her characters overachieve(?) despite their backgrounds. The female protagonist was lying to herself that she didn't love Mg and I felt very frustrating. But now that i'm older(?) and read this book once again, I kind of understand her a little more (butistillhateher). This book is set in three locations - yay nan chaung, yangon and france, so it's always a plus to read about different places than my city. I took one star off because I felt very frustrated while reading this, hating the female protagonist, and another half a star off because I can do so. 😎
This is the second book of Jue's that makes me sob at the climax and after. The way she portrays about platonic love between a sister and her (adopted) little brother, who later have feelings not-so-platonic.
This is the first ever novel of my life(except magazine novel or school course novels) and I read it in Grade 10,in 2014. Journey of readin At the first time reading, I sunk into the characters and even cried when the female character waa sad. The author's writing is so attractive and descriptive that I felt like I was in the story. The reason why I love Lavender and the little spark that push me to have interest in child psychology and child education. No matter how many time I re-read, I never feel tired of it...... A CANDY IN MY HEART 💗
