A coal miner’s granddaughter, Tess Collins was born and raised in a crater. Yes, really—a crater formed by the impact of an asteroid millions of years ago, where her hometown of Middlesboro, Kentucky was eventually built. Tess spent her younger years in a one-room Carnegie Library, reading around the room. She started with Blueberries for Sal and ended with War and Peace, at which point she thought, I want to do that.
That ambition took her to the University of Kentucky, where she majored in journalism and creative writing, and eventually to a Ph.D. from The Union Institute and University, with a focus on theatre management and producing. She is the author of eight novels and a non-fiction book on theater management. She now lives in San Francisco, where on a clear day she can see the Golden Gate Bridge, a long way from the crater, but exactly where she was always headed.

This is one of the best series I have ever read. Tess Collins is a very gifted author and I have loved every book I have read by her.

I love the setting of this series and learning about how the Appalachian people live and get by. They stick together through the rough times and enjoy the good times like no other I've known.

Alma Bashears escaped her hometown and lived in California where she is a successful attorney. She is called back home to defend her brother who is accused of killing someone. She comes face to face with the man who helped her get raped by two other boys when she was only 14 years old. How will she deal with seeing him again and will she get the justice she deserves against him? Will she find the answers so she can move on with her life?

She saves her brother and then goes on to do bigger and better things in time. I never give away things in the books I read if I can help it so you will just have to read it to find out what happens. Believe me this series is a wonderful and very heartfelt story of mountain people who are consider trash to the town people. But they have more love and feeling than any of the high and mighty town people will ever have.

Another 5 star story by a wonderful author. Now to get to the last book in this series...

Definitely a great book! I really enjoyed the main character, a lawyer, that did everything she could to save her brother from false imprisonment. This book had some really different and interesting characters which made for a fun read. The plot was awesome and it definitely kept me engaged.

Its been a while since i have read a lawyer/courtroom novel and this was a nice 1 to get back in to.
Not up there with the the early Grisham or Iles , but still a good enjoyable read, well worth a read and I will be reading the rest of the series
