Blue Sea Burning starts right after the events of New Lands and it starts off really well. I was already on edge at the end of the second book with all the revelations and this did not disappoint at all either.

Egg finds out that Burn Healy, the pirate is his uncle and he is ecstatic about it. Egg, Kira and Guts end up on Burn Healy's ship but the crew doesn't like them. They want their heads as when Burn Healy saved Egg from Roger Pembroke's execution the crew didn't get paid or didn't get their leave as they were promised. So Burn Healy resigns as the Captain of the ship and an election is held and Burn Healy gets elected back by promising them money out of his own bank account.

They set sail for Edgartown but everyone is after them from Li Homaya to Ripper Jones. The ship gets attacked but they make it to Edgartown and they dock there to get all the money from the bank. There Kira finds out after getting the map translated that the Fire King's treasure doesn't exist. They also find out that Millicent and Cyril were imprisoned there and they get them out.

They all sail for Sunrise but Ripper Jones has already taken over the town and is planning to burn all the people there. Cyril leaves to save a family but others free the Okalu slaves who don't end up helping them in return. Then Egg, Kira, Millicent and Guts come up with a plan and end up luring Ripper Jones and his crew to injure them.

Roger Pembroke finally gets the end he deserves and he also found out that the Fire King's treasure was nothing but just a bunch of shells that are worthless. Guts and Kira decide to go look for Guts' family. Adonis ends up working for his uncle. Millicent decides to go to a girls school. Venus is safe and comes to live with them at Sunrise. Burn Healy ends up being the governor of Sunrise and looks after the mine where field pirates work and they get paid.

I loved Guts, Kira, Egg, Burn Healy and even Cyril but I still couldn't bring myself to like Millicent. It was a good thing that she wasn't there for half the book at least. I also didn't think the love triangle between Egg, Millicent and Cyril was necessary and I think Cyril's character was made so on purpose by the author so we'll end up hating him and liking Egg even more. But I loved both of them.

This was action-packed and so many secrets are revealed. Some of those took me by surprise, some I had already guessed but I loved reading about those nonetheless. Good byes are very hard for me when I have to come to love a series so much but it was a fitting end. Egg is still undecided what he's going to do but the possibilities are endless.

between this series 3 volume, I liked this one the most. having finally a sensible and somewhat responsible adult in the story really changes everything. Burn Healy adds a whole other dimension to the story, so much that you don't have to be a kid or teen to enjoy this book. the way Healy looks at the world and explain it and the reality about Fist of Ka and the treasure all were some really nice thinking. considering the huge amount of swear words used in the book, although actually, none existed in the book only a __, and the love stories I would say even it might not have been meant that much for children but to older people.
the whole thing was like a good vacation for me. While reading it I wouldn't get super excited or sad or worried which makes me love this book even more.
A really good one for anyone who wants some relaxation in a book and won't get mad about how these 12-14 years old are doing all these stuff.

This series was definitely a blast to read. There was never a dull moment - everything was fast paced and action packed, and full of really lovable characters such as Mung, Quint, Guts and Burn Healy himself. Thanks to The Chronicles of Egg, I've really become a pirate fan.

I mostly thought this book was really good, but the ending was a little inconclusive as far as where Egg was going to go . . .

"It was pretty simple, really: all I had to do was destroy Roger Pembroke."
Blue Sea Burning is the final book in The Chronicles of Egg, a pirate–fantasy adventure trilogy. These books are full of action, with unique characters and mostly interesting plots. I thought this last book was a nice conclusion to the trilogy, especially after I ended up being pretty disappointed with the second book. However, Deadweather and Sunrise still remains my favorite out of the series.

description

My favorite character is Guts, hands down. Guts is what your typical "gangster" teen might be like somewhere way back around the 1400s. He's quick to grow violent, has a hook for a left hand, and an extremely foul mouth (it's a good thing the author uses dashes in place of all the swear words). Blue Sea Burning was no exception: Guts was as awesome and hilarious as ever.
"'I don't think he actually wants me to pay him back,' I said. 'Burn Healy doesn't care about money.'

[Guts:] '
Blun to that! He's a — pirate!'"
Although they didn't have a lot of scenes to themselves, Egg and Millicent were seriously adorable together. I thought the love triangle that included Millicent's old friend, Cyril, was unnecessary, though, and it didn't really add anything to the story. Plus, Cyril was a big cliché. He's described as tall (much taller than Egg), with "feathered" brown hair, a chiseled face, and he has *gasp* hair on his chest!

The plot in Blue Sea Burning was much more developed than the one in New Lands (which was the main reason I didn't enjoy New Lands nearly as much as the first book in the trilogy). The author had a lot of little subplots going on in this one, and I thought he handled them all well and managed to nicely wrap up everything by the end. Also, Roger Pembroke, the villain, was really creepy and intelligent, and he never once acted dumb (a popular trend in modern books that I find so annoying). I liked that Egg wasn't able to defeat him super easily.

I also just loved the little spots of comedy Geoff Rodkey added in between scenes; the characters' hilarious dialogue with each other made me smile numerous times. Here is one scene to give you an idea of the sense of humor:
"'Been thinking,' Guts said. 'Gonna get crew shares out o' this?'

'Why would we?' I asked.

'Quint's gettin' one.'

'Quint patched the hull,' I said. 'And anyway, I think crew shares are only for whoever makes it through the battle.'

'And we won't?'

'We're less than a day out of Edgartown. I think we'll be off the ship
before there's a battle.'

'Don't say that!' snapped Kira.

'Why not?'

'You taunt Ka when you make a prophecy. He will prove you a fool.'

'Sorry,' I said. I didn't understand Kira's religion, let alone believe in it. But just the same, I didn't want to get on the wrong side of her god. 'Can I take it back? Say a prayer or something?'

'It is too late for that,' she said. She stood up, stretching out her neck. 'I am going to sleep so I don't have to smell your burnt flesh when Ka strikes you down.'"

Geoff Rodkey has made good on his promise of an action-filled finale for his "Chronicles of Egg" trilogy.
"Blue Sea Burning" hasn't a dull moment. The reader is treated to a continual ride of action and plot twists. There are a few new characters, but there are many more facets exposed in old friends,(and enemies), to make it more interesting as one is swept along with the sea and the story. Younger reader who may readily identify with Egg, Millicent, Kira, or even Guts, (God forbid, Adonis or Venus), will find many more opportunities to let their imaginations run with those characters Without being overly complicated for the “Tween” target readership, Blue Sea Burning is still engaging enough to keep more mature readers hooked until the end..
I love this series. My 11 year old grandson has been devouring the books since the first one was released, and we have given copies as gifts to friends.
I will miss Egg and his companions.
I only hope that Mr. Rodkey will revisit Egg and the other characters sometime in the future. Perhaps, into their future as adults, as my grandson suggested to me.

The Chronicles of Egg #3: Blue Sea Burning by Geoff Rodkey.

I loved theses books from the beginning, and I'm both sad and happy it's over. Happy because it had a happy ending, and Egg can relax and finally be a kid again, but also sad because I don't want it to be over.
this was a really good conclusion to the Chronicles of Egg trilogy. It had a good beginning, it was well written, and it was a great, funny, swashbuckling adventure, that I am so glad I could be apart of. This book is beyond a page turner! It's plot was excellent, it's characters amazing, and it's dialogue hilarious, especially the beginning of chapter 32.
It had a really good ending. He tied up all the knots, and everything fit together nicely. I did feel a little sorry for Egg in the end, with what was gonna happen with Guts, Kira, and then Millicent, but it had a good massage behind it. Thing's can't stay the same forever, we all have to take our separate ways at one point or another. Lease, that was the message I got out of it. It was a good lesson, and an amazing story, with a great ending.
The book was a little stressful, but the fact that it was funny as hell, helped make up for the stress.
My favorite character was Guts, there was always something funny coming out of his mouth, foul or not. I do say, I wasn't sure about Burn Healy at first, but towards the end, he was really growing on me.

I loved this book, and all the one's before it in the series, and I think everyone should read them. I'm going to give it a 9.5, please read it. You won't regret it.

Blue Sea Burning is the conclusion to Egg’s adventures. After the first two books, we find Egg wanting revenge on Roger Pembroke for almost killing him and keeping a whole tribe slaves. He is with his uncle, the dread Burn Healy, who has his own problems after saving his nephew, such as his nemesis Ripper Jones, a ruthless pirate. It’s all he can do to keep his crew together after his dashing rescue, but he cannot seem to help Egg any further, leaving him to his own devices. I love Egg and his companions, especially Guts, who seems to be falling for the stunning Kira, a native who is seeking to save her tribe from slavery. Guts curses in the most extraordinary ways, most of it gibberish acceptable for younger readers but you still get the point that expletives are his main way of expressing himself. These books are full of action, adventure and great characters.

Verdict:

The Chronicles of Egg is a series I would point pirate-loving readers towards, served with a side of great characters and hilarious moments.

The final book in this middle grade trilogy finds Egg struggling to find a way to bring down his arch nemesis, greedy slave trader Roger Pembroke. With pirates, sea battles, and romantic complications, he'll have his hands full trying to do it.

The series goes out with the same fast action and wonderful characters I've been enjoying the entire way through. The humor scattered throughout helps as well. All three books are highly recommended for kids and adults. Just be sure to read them in order.

There are few middle years series I've found s compelling as this. After book one, I might have answered Peter and the Starcatchers was more interesting, but having arrived at the end of his series I find it wanting for absolutely nothing.

There is action, adventure and age appropriate romance. Even better, there are deep (for this age group and beyond) discussions of the meanings of liberty and justice and understanding the complexities of history which is often painted in black and white.

Like all truly good series, I'm sad to see this one come to an end. I rarely feel this way, but this is one book/series I feel would make an amazing movie. Rodney - please write more!

As I'm writing this I feel like crying. The plot of this book was great and the ending was just about to finish a good book. Then, all the 4 main characters planned to split up and I nearly started crying. LIKE WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? The ending was basically them spending their last day together. I know, they probably will meet again but I cam't help it! And I can't believe, the whole VILLAIN of the story was nearly Egg's father. LIKE WHATTTT NOW. The ending was so perfect and realistic but I can't help but hate it for ending such a perfect book in such a heartbreaking way. I'm just going to die in the corner now...

Brilliant; perfect conclusion to this series. I was so engrossed in the unfolding drama surrounding the young protagonist and his friends that I read all three stories in 5 days (just over 1.5 days per volume). Superb writing that I recommend most highly for any young person who has a passion for adventure!

Would also make an ideal set work series for the classroom (or a companion series for any curriculum).

Another really marvelous book, and an excellent conclusion to an outstanding series. Very satisfying story, believable and lovable characters, and a spot-on perfect ending. This series is definitely going to rank up there with my all-time favorites, and it really deserves to be counted as a classic contribution to children's literature. Written at perhaps a junior high level, but thoroughly engaging and enjoyable for adults, as well. Highly, highly recommended.

I just loved this whole series. What a great adventure with Egg and Guts! I can't wait to give these to my nephew! He's not much of a reader, but I gave him another series of books last year that I knew would snag his interest and these will do the same. Kids (and adults) will love this series!

I loved this whole series! I find it rare for a final installment to live up to the build up of such an exciting and well-laid storyline, but I really think that "Blue Sea Burning" managed it! I will say that I'm surprised I didn't just feel completely exhausted at the end of this rollick, because a huge chunk of the book is full-speed action. However, there are still enough of those quiet, contemplative moments which allow us to re-connect with Egg that we are given a brief breath of rest every several dozen pages. Apparently that is enough. ;) As for the ending, without giving any spoilers, I do like that it resolves things, but still feels unsettled as if...well, as if it's Egg's actual life and doesn't just tidily finish itself up when the book does. Definitely a series I would happily recommend to just about any middle-grade reader: boisterous, engaging, and unique rolled into a nice faux historical setting (which could get kids interested in the realities of our own history). Bonus: a protagonist who doesn't always know what he's doing, but does well (and does good) anyway. Can't wait to see what this author does next.

I loved it , this is how an adventure chronicle should be written, with no single page that can be called boring,no wasted pages here ,sir.. narrated by the protagonist the way I like my novels to be written, has no characters that you can hate,-damn it Guts, that ****Porsamora has his own soft spot in my heart ,every single problem was solved neatly and smartly and kept me at the edge of my seat to the very end..

two things I don't like in chronicles of Egg are:
1) I couldn't put my hands on the other two books illustrated by Tom Percival.
2) the dilemma Egg was facing, which was very real it hurt. and it it did struck an nerve in me.

I am sure that this one trilogy am going to re-read again...to think it is disguised under a silly name and to be that AMAZING adventure, never though it would be such a thing, my mind is at awe.

TO Geoff Rodkey I wish I can this as animated series, not a real human movie , it is tooo good to be acted.

This book wasn't nearly as fast paced and danger filled as I thought it would being the last book, but it still was good. Egg didn't act completely like himself through the book. I alsk felt it lagged some moments and the ending of Reggie was disappointing and felt it needed more emotional things with it. I loved how the end and the mystery of what Egg would decide to do.

Really, really enjoyed this series. It's been a long time since I've had a book series make me want to read all the way through. The characters were all great and I loved their interactions. I loved how they all felt human and felt I was along with the ride. Would definitely recommend this book series to others!
