Read this as part of my research for my middle grade bio on Sylvia Méndez. Used more for background to get a sense of Orange County during the time period. It proved useful, but was also a fascinating read. The county was so very vastly different during that first half of the 20th Century. But the author also does a great job of showing a progression and the reasons for how the Mexican workers came to be and the confluence of different things that were happening in the country and around the world. The book is also easy to read, so you don't have to be an academic to understand it! A fascinating history.
