Maid for Her Snow Beast is a sweet yet spicy small town fated mates monster romance set outside of the monster-controlled city of Avalon Vale. It’s a stand alone story with high heat, low stakes, grumpy/sunshine vibes.

This book is part of the Mated to the Monster multi-author monster romance series.
I was just…. bored. It was also rushed and had a magic system that wasn’t explained to the FMC but then she just suddenly knew things? Without being told?
This would be a higher rating BUT the editing was entirely absent. The typos, the spelling errors, wrong words and homonyms were entirely distracting. There was also no background whatsoever. We have no idea what the characters look like at all, no idea of any of the side characters, character backgrounds or motivations, nada. The story is hyper focused on the romance to the exclusion of all else. Even when the stalker is caught, we have literally no idea what happens to him. He just disappears from the storyline entirely. A fun idea, not so good writing.
I really enjoyed the first half of this book, but the writing style may just not be for me.
About halfway through it started to feel very rushed, and there were a lot of grammar issues and typos that really took me out of the story. It just felt like the last half of it wasn’t proofread at all.
All of the spicy scenes felt incredibly rushed and impersonal. Very little build up or tender aftercare moments, and honestly not that much emotion behind them either.
There was a lot of telling instead of showing towards the end. I was kind of just left wondering where new things had even come from or why something hadn’t been explained earlier in the book so the significance was actually felt instead of told.
There were parts about this book that I enjoyed. Loved that Tor was this massive beast on the outside, but such a cinnamon roll. I didn’t think the plot had The development it needed to be successful. Majority of the story we didn’t even know that there was threat to Val. It was rushed could have been given us more context and word building.
This was just okay, nothing crazy. It was a grumpy/sunshine trope, and the MMC instantly knew she was his mate, but let her come to him in her own time.
For me this book was either very rushed or too slow at points. The consistency was lacking for a smooth book, and lets be honest...we come for the spice, which was also very rushed. The ending twist was predictable but it is to be expected in these types of books.
Would I say this was an excellent monster book? No. But it got me curious and the fact I read through the whole thing probably says something.
The story was interesting, but it needed some editing. In one scene we were in the bedroom, the heroine on the bed kissing the hero and then he gathered her up and...took her to the bedroom they just entered few sentences back. I liked Tor, he wasn't a very grumpy grump, he was a bit awkward in conversations, but he was welcoming and warm to Val from the get go. Val was alright, but it pissed me off that she was moving around country to hide from a fucked up stalker and the police was apparently not helping at all. It was bullshit, for all the threatening messages she would get a restraining order for sure and that idiot would be in jail as soon as he got close to her. I mean, I know that police is shitty a lot of the times, but let's be real here, years of stalking and threatening would be enough for some action.
I was confused half of the time, because the descriptions aren't great, and the writing isn’t particularly good. I just continued and didn’t dwell on the myriad typos, missing/extra words and grammar mistakes, or I wouldn’t have finished. The story wasn’t that good anyway, and there were a lot of things that aren’t explained. Val thinks to ask about Tor’s culture, but never does, so we know next to nothing about the snow monsters, and there’s mention of a war, but that is never explained in any detail. Magic as well. They’re tracking her (I have no idea how, it’s mentioned once and never again), but there’s a jammer (this one’s mentioned twice in the same scene), and there are “enemies” but all that is forgotten the second the scene ends and never brought up again. The smut is cringe.
I do love this universe that Evangeline/Eva Priest has created, but, sad to say, this book, though the story itself was doable, I almost stopped reading it due to all the poor grammatical and spelling errors I found. Come on! Where was the editor? Don't you know you have to read the story aloud in front of others to catch the stupid errors? I kept finding words like "rcount" (meant to be recount). During one pivotal part of the climactic crisis, the word "not" was printed "now". Totally lost the feeling and the suspension of my disbelief. I had to stop, get into editorial mode, and finally realize what exactly was being said.
I would have given this story an immediate DNF #11 if it wasn't for the fact that I was that close go finishing it.
The main male character I almost loved... except I couldn't quite get into it cuddly nature, and I really wanted to know more about his years in the war. It's just mentioned very minimally, and that's that. Needed better exposition here to get my sympathy. As for the female main character, I am very sad to say that the ol' stalker would-be wannabe boyfriend is trying to get her. Sorry, but that's been overused too much. Maybe a witness to something bad would be better (but I haven't read that much mafia lit). Maybe find another reason for being on some guy's hit list. I still like the theft of something angle, even if she never did steal anything. Or what about the art expert that's being blackmailed to authenticate something. I don't know, but I'm tired of the psycho boyfriend issue.
I did like the continued world-building of Avalon Vale and the cameos of previously met characters. I only hope this series continues onward.
The order in which Tor and Val's romantic relationship results, I only see an overused pattern develop. A short story that has appeared in Monsters in Love involve orcs and pastry chefs seemed less formulaic. I need something to surprise me! At least the angst regarding "does s/he love me?" isn't here that much. (Thank the gods!) But can we do something with a surprise?
I'm very happy to be transported to Avalon Vale and the Obsidian City again, but I am disappointed in that I haven't been transported to something original.
*sigh*
I am a completist. I will have this book in my library, but more for the sentient house portions, the Wulvers, Lucky, Vane, Eddie, and the Chamber of Commerce more than anything.
Valiana “Val” is excited to live in Avalon Vale, a city with mystical creatures and monsters and is almost able to reach her goal as the city will accept new residents soon.
She works as a house cleaner and is surprised to get a job managing a house on an estate in that town.
Unbeknownst to her, the owner is a recluse who just wants to tend his plants, tinker with his inventions and make herbal remedies, a Snow beast called Torben “Tor”.
His cousin, Jack coordinated with Val’s agency to hire her and she is surprised with how nice the house looks as opposed to her previous jobs.
This was giving beauty and the beast vibes with the sentient house and the house liking her also she is his mate but she doesn’t know.
She is also being stalked by a man she cancelled a date with and has been moving frequently because the calls and messages as well as strange happenings do not stop. She doesn’t need to do much cleaning or managing as the house can self clean and morph into whatever it wants (rooms and items pop up and change whenever it wants). It was more of a living here situation than a job I felt.
The way the hero has a transformation into a more animalistic form of himself was interesting - eye and fur colour change, size change. He often loses control when worried about Val or thinks she is threatened. I thought the world building was interesting.
There were some grammar mistakes and writing errors. I wasn't loving the couple and thought the steamy scenes crammed into the last part of the book felt tedious.
Valiana/Val (h), looking to reinvent herself, hopes to start her life anew, driven by a vision of a new life in the community of Avalon Vale, a place of mystery and hidden within mists. Torben/Tor (H), an Otherkin, a snow beast, leads a secluded life, burdened by his past and responsibilities. His life is intricately linked to Lakeside Manor, a sentient entity reacting to its occupants and visitors, welcoming those it likes. Their paths cross when Val takes up a temporary position as a property manager for the Lakeside Manor, and despite initial misunderstandings and the cultural chasm that separates them, a connection forms between Val and Tor. Val's arrival in Avalon Vale is not without its challenges and unexpected hurdles, which hints at a darker past following her into this new life. Tor struggles with family expectations and the weight of his heritage, but he finds that Val's presence brings a new light into his life, challenging him to confront his fears and consider the possibility of change, especially when he realizes that she accepts him as the Otherkin he is, regardless of his form. Hot and steamy monster-human romance with a side of danger and angst, a supportive community, and an amazing house that makes you feel right at home.
There were many elements of this story that I found enjoyable. They not only made sense but made me appreciate this author's creativity/vision. In less 150 pages, she found a way to incorporate many elements of Beauty and the Beast - at least the evil-corporate mouse version - I hadn't read before in any other retelling. She also gave it her own touch, which helped to elevate the story
However, I do believe the manuscript needs an editor and a proofreader. Not only that, but I also think the length of it wasn't enough to completely take advantage of that creativity/vision I mentioned before. Some things were just left up to the reader's imagination, and while I don't usually mind that, I just think that some plot-points needed to be explored further because some of these read unfinished.
Some typos:
Page 72 "After all, there are introverts and extraverts."
Page 114 "If Otsos can blush, he is doing it now. “Yes, and it deems you it’s lady.”"
They're talking about the house deeming the FMC as its lady
Val takes a job to clean out an abandoned mansion but when she gets there she realizes that the mansion is not at all what she expected. The house is sentient and while it might not like Torben or be as friendly to some other occupants, the mansion is very friendly to Val and gives her exactly what she wants and needs.
Torben is a snow beast but doesn't look human when he's not in his bigger beast form. He looks different with fur and amber eyes but is bigger when he transforms into his beast form. He can transform into the bigger beast form when he wants to or needs to like if he's saving Val which he needed to do a couple of times because Val had a stalker that puts her in danger. But Val is Torben's mate so he does what he has to in order to save her.
Humans know about the supernatural monsters that are called otherkin. Humans and monsters try to live in peace together but there are some that don't like it and make trouble.
I really liked Val, she is just a nice person and she was exactly what Torben needed. These two were so sweet together. I really liked watching them get to know one another and fall for each other.
We return to the otherkin city Avalon Vale in Evangeline Priest's new cozy 'n §ëxy möṅ§tër römäṅcë - Maid for the Snow Beast. It is part of the Mated to the Monster Series, but definitely can be read as a stand-alone. Val is the human woman invited to Avalon Vale to work at an estate to get it ready for a gala. Torben "Tor" is the snow beast living in his underground den/lab & greenhouse working on his technology & plant inventions. His estate home has locked him out for many reasons...all valid. The home is just as much a main character as Val & Tor. Some of Tor's comments about his home had me laughing! 😉 (Swoon for his underground library! 💕) Evangeline shares more snippets of the other Avalon Vale inhabitants (hopefully they all will get their own story🤞🏽), more background provided about the veil, magic and the Rift Wars. New Beginnings, Fated Mates, Grumpyish/Sunshine, some drama (read the TWs)... plus some *definite* §pïcƴ mätïng / böṅɗïṅg between Val & Tor! 🔥🥵💋 All-in-all a very enjoyable read! 📚 🥰

Gleeful Goblin Review: As someone who works from home and loves it, is a bit of a curmudgeon, and that has to be coaxed from my cozy little home I am right there with our MMC Torben. Except I haven't had a town declare me legally dead because I refused to interact with anyone or leave my home and had to have a family member rescue me from drowning in paperwork to become alive again. BUT BESIDES THAT, VERY SIMILAR. So, needless to say I had a rollicking good time reading this story. There's all sorts of teeny tiny but fun or funny details scattered through the story that tickled me such as Torben having an aunt named Jadzia which made my Chaotic Queerdo, Star Trek nerd heart go pitter patter when I read that name. The book is easy to read in the best of ways and really makes you feel like you're a fly on the wall getting to know these characters as they get to know each other. Totally a fun time read. 5/5 Stars.

This book is one I got free on sale this year. It's about Val who becomes a maid for a snow beast in a monster controlled city (they're all shifters of some sort and with variations in human form). It's a magical house and it's more about her organising events than actually being a maid (considering the house is magical). She was the mate to the snow beast, she has no reservations about this at all.
I was bored. There was conflict but it was all outside conflict (and it seemed to come a little out of nowhere) and none from the relationship between Val and the snow beast. The magical house which didn't let anyone in was not a problem as soon as Val showed up (she did absolutely nothing, she just arrived).
This was an engaging and fun addition to this multi-author series and I really enjoyed the hidden community of Avalon Vale. Valiana is the human woman invited to Avalon Vale to work at an estate to get it ready for a gala. Torben is the snow beast living in his underground den/lab and greenhouse of that estate. I absolutely loved the concept of a sentient house! It was such fun to know why it locked Tor out and how far it would go to make Val happy ;P These two find that they're well suited with acceptance and their smoking hot chemistry. All is not simple for them, though, with a stalker ex on Valiana's trail. Expect to be well entertained when you dive into this fun read :D
Val is running for her life but finds a dream job and a mate
Tor is a grumpy recluse who's been declared dead and his house is to be claimed by the town. He's a former warrior who just wants to work in his lab - alone. Val has been hired to manage the property and Tor''s sentient house decides it likes Val best. Tor mellowed when he meets the tiny woman who isn't the least bit frightened by the massive snow beast. Her ex tried kidnapping Val but Tor quickly rescued his mate. Yes they are an unusual couple but they're happy in the custom home they create. Good story but terrible proofing cost you stars.

'“The door opened for you?” I blurt out without thinking. “I mean, of course, it opened for you. Good. How convenient.” I look at the house with suspicion.'
I really enjoyed this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I really liked both Valiana and Torbin (I love those names! I feel bad to cut them short!). I liked the way their relationship developed. They were opposites yet fit together so well. Val's crappy ex give some action, danger, and suspense to the story. The sentient house was so much fun- and something I've only encountered a couple times in stories. A cute read. 4 stars.
A Snowbeast, a Sentient House and on Human Who Needs A Break
Val really wants to live in Avalon Vale, so when she gets a chance to manage a house there, she jumps at the chance. Thing is, there’s already someone living in the house, and Tor not sure about a house manager - until he meets Val. I enjoyed the caring and spicy relationship between Tor and Val, and the action-packed ending was exciting. Plus, I loved the Easter egg referencing (what I’m guessing is) J D Robb’s In Death series. A great read about an exciting new monster town.
I love how the tale evolves around this grumpy, reclusive Snow Beast. So reclusive, the town pronounces him dead with a death certificate and that his home and land have been confiscated. The house/manor was a great touch with its sentient personality. “The house has locked me out.” There was a lot of banter to enjoy between Val, Tor, and all the Otherkin of Avalon Vale.
I definitely would love more about the other characters and their further exploits with the humans they have opened their town to. This was a fun read.
I enjoyed all of the different beings living in Avon Vale. I googled some of them to see what they looked like. I hope more books about this town are in the near future. I really liked Val and Tor as a couple they were perfect for each other. I really enjoyed the house having a personality of its own and it gave Val everything she’d dreamt of from decor to the food she liked. All of her wishes came true. It’s also funny because Tor hadn’t kept up with time and language. It’s a good read!
I thought this started off very promising. But about the 40% things turned.
Once the story turned directly into a romance involving a girl in distress, it lost it's interesting bend. The whole stalker thing was super weak and boring. This is such an overdone trope and I would love for most authors to stop using it.
There was a lot of world building that could have helped. There likely is another series that offers more info. But this is supposed to be a standalone story.
Once the stalker was introduced, the story disintegrated into nothing.
The books was nice! I did enjoy the story and definitely would read more in the series. Only knocked off one star due to it being a bit fast-paced going to one scene to another where your like wait what just happened type of feel. Or there could've been more details in the story where there wasn't. Definitely was some beauty and the beast vibes and scenario from the movie in this story.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s very delightful a little attraction a little beastly fetish. It’s like boy, girl and girl meets boy instead of traction this girl, beast and beast girl.. the part I’m missing is what happened to the ex the ex-boyfriend. That is the missing link you supposed to finish out that part what happened to the Friend coworker she was supposed to go pick up what happened to her unfinished business.
Val is a human who is trying to find a place to be happy. Taking a job in a “monster” town she finds more than she was looking for. A little mystery and drama adds to the story and the supporting characters are wonderful.

Val is looking for a fresh start and in the monster world she hopes to find it getting a job cleaning out an abandoned mansion she finds its very much occupied although underneath by snow beast Torben. Well written steamy monster/human romance.

This was such a lovely story, I loved Torben! He just wanted peace and quiet to do his work but totally took it in his stride when Val appeared. He was such a calming and comforting presence for her, she totally fell for him without any hesitations.
