Of Trust and Tolerance: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Rate this book
The sweet, very low-angst novella is approximately 40,000 words and is told from a Christian perspective. It begins at Pemberley when Elizabeth and Darcy meet by accident for the first time since the Hunsford proposal. In this variation, Mr. James Darcy and his wife, Lady Anne, are still living and are there to support our dear couple.

Elizabeth’s eyes fluttered open from the deep sleep that had encompassed her intermittently for days. Blinking to clear her vision she saw an immaculately dressed Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy standing at the end of her bed with a bouquet of roses grasped in his hand. I must still be dreaming, she decided and allowed her eyes to close again.
Reopening them moments later to gauge her state of wakefulness, she discovered that Mr. Darcy’s image had not disappeared as she had expected, but was now smiling at her. Strange dream, she thought and quickly closed her eyes tightly in the hope of dispelling the miasma that must be affecting her vision. She slowly opened only one eye to take a peek.
This time, the image of Mr. Darcy was grinning, and seemed to be repressing the urge to laugh. Now the image took a step closer and “Good morning, Miss Elizabeth. I am delighted that our sleeping beauty has awakened. Are you at all aware of your recent accident and your illness of the past four days?”
“Accident and illness?” She moved to sit up before recalling that she was in bed and in her nightgown. Pulling the sheet up to her neck, she protested, “Mr. Darcy, where am I and what are you doing in my bedchamber?”
His grin was gone but he was still smiling tenderly at her. “Elizabeth, you are at Pemberley, my estate in Derbyshire. And I am here to ask for the honor of your hand in marriage.”

Wow! What a wonderful story. This unintentional , reverse, "compromise " was full of joy & Love

Thanks to the quick response of Fitzwilliam Darcy, Miss Elizabeth Bennet is alive. Not one to miss his chance to win the affection of the woman he loves, Darcy asks that she accept his hand in marriage. You guessed it, after nearly drowning and little memory of the event, her most vivid memories are of his insulting behavior in Hertfordshire and his awful proposal. So she refuses him. Sit back and enjoy how Elizabeth comes to see the heart of Fitzwilliam Darcy and her comes to really know her and see her worth. I simply couldn't put this book down. I read it in short order , even going back to reread my favorite parts. I'm sure you'll love it, enjoy!

A sweet, no angst story

This is a sweet fairytale of a story yet I was never quite convinced of the chemistry between Elizabeth and Darcy. Lots of passionate kisses, surprisingly, matter less than the dynamics between the couple in between kisses, and these lacked depth for me, unlike the author’s other works. There are moments of clever dialogue and advice, mostly between women advising Elizabeth on her introduction to society.

Darcy’s parents alive!

This is a sweet story that includes Darcy’s parents being alive. In this story Elizabeth with her aunt and uncle are visiting Pemberley’s grounds not the house. An accident occurred and necessitated Elizabeth and family to stay. There is a faith element that some may not be comfortable with but I find it appropriate for the era and characters. Will this be a read again, yes!

- A sweet, no-angst story.

- I enjoyed the Darcy family's closeness.

- Likable characters.

* Elizabeth's set down came across as if Darcy only married her out of obligation. That was a letdown.

Beautiful story

I thoroughly enjoy Jane Austen works and the stories others create with her characters. I especially like your writing because you also bring in the scriptures and help us see a different side to the characters.
