Life is all about change. We may be afraid of it. We may try to avoid it. But no matter how we view it, change is going to come our way. SHIFT: How to Deal When Life Changes, by Abigail Brenner, M.D., is a practical-user-friendly manual for anyone who seeks to understand the nature, the stages, and the emotions of change and transition, and wants to make the most of the changes he or she experiences. SHIFT reveals and demonstrates how change presents our greatest opportunities for self-transformation. In easy-to-grasp language, SHIFT explores brainwave research, the vital role of the subconscious, and the predictability of the patterns of change---which assure us that life does unfold in ways that can be understood and managed. At the core of SHIFT, however, are thought-provoking and soul-searching questions and exercises that lay the groundwork for successfully mastering change. Can we learn to grow from change. We can, if we know how to SHIFT.
A must read for anyone stuck without tools for positive change. I love Dr. Brenner because she tells it the way it is, promotes acceptance of our foibles and flaws, but encourages us to move on. She leaves you with specific techniques that work, without getting bogged down or lost in the language or process. SHIFT is palatable and reader friendly, but powerful all the same. Growing your empowerment tool box is paramount to experience a better quality of life. Get it for yourself and then get it for a friend.
