Fat Vampire 6: Survival of the Fattest
The Era of Nighttime Has Begun...
Forty years have passed since the end of the vampire/human war. Vampires have taken over the planet and have settled in, making themselves comfortable in the infrastructure their predecessors built, with just a few adjustments to ensure a permanent night.

Note: I listened to an audio version of this book that isn't currently listed on Goodreads.com so I am placing my review here.
So I just blew through all the "Fat Vampire" books in a couple days and they all get "worth the read". This is partly due to the sense of humor employed by the author in the telling but even more so in a pretty good story told well. These are not perfect stories, in particular the MC has a mind-boggling intelligence and yet gets surprised repeatedly. You'd think a highly intelligent being would consider the possibility the bad guys would betray him before it ever happened, let alone by the fifth time it happens, and yet the MC is surprised every time. This is in part due the author painting himself in a corner, by which I mean the MC is given such great mental powers that the author is forced to have his MC surprised to move the author's chosen story forward. However this is also the problem since the author has given the MC such great mental powers it should be impossible for him to be surprised by such highly probably actions.
Also, I found the first book the most enjoyable because the MC is dealing with his own immediate problems. Thereafter the MC is put in the position of saving or damning the world. While I can enjoy those stories they really only have one possible outcome. Still, the author gets quite inventive in those outcomes so the bottom line is:
While not perfect, these are very enjoyable humous stories that are worth the read.

I really enjoyed this series. The characters were fun, and I loved the nerdiness of Reginald. As for this title in particular, All in all it was a lot of fun to read. All the books were rather short, which I didn't care for. It also wasn't perfect at all times. Some things were just a bot too predictable. However it was still fun. For the whole 6 book series, I think I would give it 4 1/2 of 5 stars.

Forty years later, a bitter Reginald has given up on the Codex because it failed him at the first hurdle. Vampires have won and human blood farms are used to keep a captive blood supply. Reginald is rich thanks to his range of snack food for vampires tired of just taking blood. Claire is hiding in a vampire neighbourhood, pretending to be one of them to stay safe. Nikki is still in touch with a group of human rights activists.
But of course things can't stay quiet for long. Claire indicates that things are about to change and suddenly humans are rising up with a new leader, new weapons and a definite plan to bring down the vampires. Feeling that the apocalypse is coming, Reginald turns to the Codex while his old enemies Charles and Todd ask him to help them defeat the humans or face Nikki being arrested for her activities. Timken and Claude each have their own plans as to how to deal with the human insurgency.
I was pleased to see that whole gang are back. I really like Brian and I always wish that he featured more in the later books. Claire just doesn't interest me anymore. I liked her as the child friend of Reginald but as soon as she started developing the powers, although she was more useful to the team, it wasn't quite the same. Adult Claire is just dull and not greatly interesting to me. Brian was brilliant as usual 'oh my god why are you such a douchebag' and Todd had his moments too. Nikki drove me crazy in this book because she just couldn't trust Reginald to take care of things and nearly causes them a fatal problem.
I liked the twists and turns in this book, the backstabbings and betrayals, the attempts by Reginald to get peace being thwarted by the actions of others. It was interesting and overall a satisfactory end to the series.

Book six
We have reached the end of the series. My overall impression is still that the six books need to be combined into no more than three books. When I bought Fat Vampire i was expecting something light and funny. That isn't what I got.
A grossly overweight guy gets turned into a vampire, befriends a girl that is half succubus, has a woman fall in love with him because he plays the piano, tries to stop a war and fails, tries to stop a second war that would lead to extinction and succeeds.
Plot: For the last book in this series the plot was decent and kept me interested.
Mistakes found: none
Characters: Most of the support characters are still rather flat. Most of the main characters where kinda flat. The most interesting wasn't the MC but a little succubus girl.
I rate this book 8/10 I rate the series as a whole 4/10

The only way it could’ve ended.
R.I.P Maurice. Vampires won the war. Forty years later and the humans have sharpened themselves and are ready to take back the planet. It’s laughable how stupid the vampires are. Poor Reggie has to suffer through negotiations neither side is willing to listen. Ended nicely and overall was a great series, just a little too over political for me. Walter was genius and Reggie finally stepped up.

Excellent series!
This series was far more engaging than many in this genre. Reginald is a badass in a purely intellectual way. There are never enough genius heroes these days. These books have sex, violence, humor, and thoughtfulness woven all through them.

Not worth it
Lots of loose end, logical leaps, long dialogues, and disappointing explanations. It can be predicted from book 3 that author will go for epic conflict and fail due to lack of skill and format limitations. May work as anime series but not in book form

I love this series
This is the first time I have enjoyed a vampire series EVER. The characters were superb and delightful, as well as funny. You grew to hate some and love others while always enjoying every word written. Down with the sparkly, sexy vampire, VIVA THE FAT VAMPIRE!

Started reading this because the title was funny!
I'm so glad I was able to read all 6 consecutively. I always wanted to know what was coming next. And the books always surprised me. I've already downloaded more of this authors books.

A lot of fun!
Fat vampire series was full of unconventional vampire lore, which made it all the more entertaining. I was "compelled" to buy each book in turn. I highly recommend the entire series and recommend that it published as a box set.

The final book in the Fat Vampire series. the war between humans and vampires, which was kick started by the Angels, comes to a head.
Reginald and the humans keep getting betrayed by the vampires, but it gets straightened out in the end.

A great ending to a good series, number two was a bit naff after a good start but 3,4 and 5 were good followed by the finale which I proper enjoyed.

A sort of happy ending
I suppose this was as good a way to end a series as any. Neither vampire nor human populations will ever be the same but that was the whole idea behind the angels getting involved. Shake things up and see what happens.

A satisfying if relatively predictable end to the series, it was a lot of fun seeing exactly how it was going to play out even though the final outcome was pretty obvious in the previous book. You could definitely feel how frustrated Reginald must have been to continually have the meetings with the humans go wrong over and over and over again. I do wish that Claire had had a bigger role; I didn't particularly like the "grown-up" Claire and she wasn't fleshed out overly well for having grown up between books 5 & 6. What I'd like to see, now that the series is over, are some other stories in the same universe, such as the turning of Maurice and Claude and where there enmity came from.

The humor drops off a lot in the second half of this six part series. I found the big mystery at the end a bit boring, but I did like the journey getting there. I think if the books had focused more on humor it would have been better, because the story couldn't carry the series for six parts. It is not easy to write funny, but you can go for low hanging fruit and just provide simple entertainment.
I do like the book as something to deconstruct from a storytelling perspective. I listen to the author on a few podcasts so it adds another dimension for me, which makes it more enjoyable. I can see that someone just jumping into this blind might not find as much enjoyment.

All's well that ends well
I really enjoyed reading this series. It was a nice break from the cliche supernatural fictions. This book was another page turner. Reginald and the gang are still trying to end the war between humans and vampires. The series of events that started in the very first book played a HUGE role in how the story ends. I am sad to see this series end but I must say I enjoyed the ride. So if you like books on supernatural beings then I suggest you read this series.
