Fitzwilliam Darcy was finding it difficult to fight his attraction to the impertinent, green-eyed Miss Elizabeth Bennet. So, when Miss Bingley proposes to decamp from Netherfield behind Bingley's back, he reluctantly agrees, telling himself it would be good both for his friend and his beleaguered heart. However, he is unable to leave without one last glimpse of the lovely Miss Bennet. An unfortunate accident occurs when he goes to meet her one last time. His rescue of Elizabeth leads to gossip and rumours, forcing him to offer marriage. To his surprise, he realises that neither he is unhappy with the outcome nor is Elizabeth happy with it; in fact, she dislikes him deeply. But Fitzwilliam Darcy has never run away from challenges, and he would not from this unique one—courting his own wife and making her fall in love with him, at least as much as he was with her.
Elizabeth
Circumstances forced Elizabeth Bennet to marry a man she heartily disliked only a few days before her marriage. What could be her future with such a man? To her surprise, she finds that not only is Mr Darcy a man she could respect, but he also has the charm to make her fall in love with him. In love with a man who had confessed to finding her barely tolerable! Oh, was she doomed for a marriage of unequal affections, or would she overcome her insecurities and find true love?
A good read - this Darcy makes me wish he was mine.
I loved that we skip over the whole 'she is beneath me' right to Darcy realizing he is in love and happy to be forced to marry Elizabeth. Unfortunately, he also learns she doesn't feel the same. In fact, she feels nearly the opposite. He sets out to woo and court her after the wedding. And does a good job too. (Whooo... where is my fan!) Due to this, Elizabeth's feelings grow rapidly.
His family embraces Elizabeth into their fold and assist her in making a somewhat smooth entrance with the Ton. Not all welcome her with open arms and a couple of women try to sabotage her happiness.
However - Lack of communication, make that -major lack of good communication, keeps our dear couple in a state of limbo for (in my opinion) far too long. Add to this, Elizabeth's fears about being devastatingly hurt by her husband, although he really hasn't given her any reasons to doubt him.
I think I would have liked more delving into her relationship phobias and less misunderstandings/separation between them. We also never learn the why of a specific relationship status, which although this doesn't affect the story, it still bugged me.
I must say, once our loving couple reveal all and hash things out - Uummmmmm!!!! (to quote Lydia)
This was a lovely forced marriage story. Darcy and Elizabeth get married after an unfortunate accident sparks gossip. He is her champion but she is not as enamored of him as he is of her, and he courts her after the marriage. I had a bit of trouble keeping all the original minor characters straight in my head and the conflict is a bit prolonged due to not-talking. But it was a nice touch that Elizabeth didn't believe a character who was trying to stir trouble. I read the draft the author posted on a fanfic site, not sure if it was changed much to the published one. Steam level: We know what they're doing but fade to black at the crucial moment.
Forced Marriage When Darcy decides to leave Netherfield after the ball, he cannot do so without seeing Elizabeth one more time. As he arrives at Longbourn to bid farewell to the Bennets, he notices Elizabeth walking away from the house and follows her on his horse. He finds her after she has fallen into a stream and injured her ankle. Coming to her rescue, he carries her back to Longbourn, only to be greeted by the visiting busybodies of Meryton, eager to spread rumours and gossip—all leading to Darcy presenting himself to do the honourable thing.
This variation depicts Darcy as a truly upstanding gentleman, who is secretly happy for the circumstances because he knows deep down that he loves Elizabeth. Once he discovers that Elizabeth does not share his feelings, he resolves to court her after the wedding. His efforts are very successful, but it takes a long time before Elizabeth acknowledges her own feelings for him—a drawback for me, as it takes well past 80% of the book for them to finally have that conversation. Throughout the book, the dialogue is very good, and the evolving relationship between ODC is engaging and often amusing.
There are a few grammatical errors and non-Regency words, but overall, it is still well-written.
There is one short sentence that makes me give this a mature rating, but the remainder of their first intimate encounter after some months of marriage is fade-to-black. Otherwise, it’s kisses only.
Initiated by Miss Bingley the Netherfield party is on their way to London. But Darcy, enchanted by Elizabeth, is not willing to go without a last glimpse of his heart's desire. He arrives just in time to rescue Elizabeth after an accident. When he brings her home they are discovered. Circumstances now force them to marry. Darcy, who in the past carefully tried to avoid being compromised, now discovers that this situation makes him extremely happy due to having gained his heart's desire. He knows that Elizabeth is not happy with the situation and woes to court her, even after marriage. Elizabeth on her part is horrified at first, she despises Darcy and thinks he feels the same. But soon she discovers what a charming, caring and gentle person Darcy is. But is this respect she feels for her husband enough for a marriage? Will they be able to transform their union into a marriage of true love? Is Elizabeth brave enough to give her heart to Darcy?
The story is very well written by the author S. Neha. I like her style of writing very much. All events and interactions between ODC are beautifully described. And in all her stories she is able to sketch an incredible swoon-whorthy Darcy ❤️
This story is no exception, Darcy is such a gem in here, he shows Elizabeth that he very much cares for her and tries to fulfil all her wishes. He is willing to do everything to show her his love and make her love him in return. I do so love this Darcy.
I also very much like the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. Soon after their wedding they form a real bond and a friendship they can rely on. They both go open minded in this union but Elizabeth is soon frightened by her own feelings she develops for Darcy. Events and false observations lead to a wrong impression on her side, she fears falling in love with Darcy and having her heart broken. I can understand her feelings due to the events she witnessed but I had hoped for more courage on her side while facing her feelings and allowing a loving relationship to develop. But love sometimes makes one, or better one Elizabeth, irrational.
There are no real villains in this story. Some people try to interfere but they are swiftly dealt with. The real obstacles in their path to a happily ever after are Darcy and Elizabeth themselves. Had they but one time talked about their feelings they could have speared themselves a lot of heartbreak and grief.
If you like to see Darcy courting Elizabeth after their forced wedding and trying to make her fall in love with him you should definitely read this excellent book.
I highly recommend it.
I received a free copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a sweet story about how Elizabeth and Darcy would do in a forced marriage. It's an absolutely lovely atiry, just like all this authors stories.
S. Neha has become one of those authors that is an automatic download when a new release shows up. In this story there is an accident that creates a compromise and an early forced marriage. Darcy is everything I imagine a gentleman should be. But of course it is no surprise that Darcy is his own worse enemy when it comes to relationships. He is happy with having is hand forced but shocked to find out that Elizabeth had a very different impression. It is a sweet low angst story where the courting occurs after the wedding date. Of course they get to that very well deserved HEA.
I received an ARC for this story and have shared my honest opinions.
Darcy uses all his gentlemanly skills to court Lizzy after a forced marriage. Lots of cute romantic moments and witty dialogue as our dear couple find their way to a very sensuous, but clean happy ending. Loved it!
I loved this forced to marry variation. I loved to see a different Darcy and a less than confident Lizzy. Without giving too much of the plot away I love the way that Whickham in a very minor character way gets his comeuppance. I'm a romantic at heart and I have spent my many adult years thinking of various romantic tales they are stored in my brain but rarely make it to paper. I would have been proud to write this one.
The One thing that keeps with you long after you complete the novel is 'What A Swoon Worthy Darcy'...if i had those little fans the Regency ladies used to have i would be fanning myself throughout the read. God Neha has made Darcy so Humane and such a 'Nice' guy that in a way you start getting irritated with Elizabeth for being Naïve and unintentionally causing him pain by not understanding his love. You do get angry at her for actually hurting him but Neha pain such a devastated Lizzy after her mistake that u cant hold ur anger much the same as our dear boy Darcy
This is a falling in love after marriage story. We do get a quick marriage of our lead pair because the gossip in Meryton when Darcy rescues Lizzy from frigid waters and twisted ankle. Darcy proposes to Lizzy and is happy that a decision is made for him when his mind is telling him to go away from Lizzy. he quickly understands the dishearten fact that Lizzy quite detest him and is forced to marry him to save her and her family's reputation
What happens next is the Darcy who sets out to win his wife's heart and truly wooes her to make her fall in love
Lizzy is also strong, kind, intelligent but at the same time innocent whereat first she fights her attraction to Darcy (role reversal eh!!) and later pushes him away in her fears and insecurities.
The way Lizzy makes up for her lapse in judgement is soooo romantic and Darcy never stood a chance
The other characters are also nicely sketched. The Fitzwilliam Clan is firmly behind the newly married couple as new 'Mrs. Darcy' faces the town. Georgie and Emmaline (Richard's sister) are like two new sisters to Lizzy and help her understand D more easily. Lady Matlock is the surrogate mother in staid of Lady Anne and she perfectly does her job
There are no villains as such but there are people who try to create problems between the couple though they are quickly dealt with. The biggest stumbling block for both of them is their inability to communicate and insecurity and fear of unrequited love.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. In love with a man who had confessed to finding her barely tolerable! Oh, was she doomed for a marriage of unequal affections, or would she overcome her insecurities and find true love? So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I highly recommend to everyone.
This was an awesome variation. I LOVE that the author presented a more realistic response (as far as fanfiction goes) to certain situations.
What I liked:
- Darcy's character. Charming and determined.
- Elizabeth. This Elizabeth was how I picture Elizabeth Bennet. She was not perfect, but human. The best part about her character is that the author allows her to accept blame and apologize to Darcy for her actions. Her mistakes were not overlooked, or somehow, the responsibility to ask for forgiveness fell on Darcy's shoulders. I appreciate that so much since Darcy usually has to apologize just because.
- I liked how the author handled Darcy and Elizabeth's inner thoughts, especially when they answered themselves. Nor were the inner thoughts overdone.
- The baddies did not dominate the story, just touches of their spitefulness here and there.
- I should have mentioned this first: Darcy and Elizabeth behave like mature adults and talk things out before the forced marriage occurs. Thank you ;) When D&E did come together, it was beautifully done.
The minor dislike:
- Elizabeth was looking for the right time to apologize; it took way too long.
3.5 stars. Annoyingly there were a lot of formatting issues. The font would change randomly and some sentences or paragraphs were in a different color. It was fairly distracting particularly as some of the font was oddly small so I would increase the size on my kindle and then some would be huge.
In terms of the story, I liked it overall. I liked & appreciated how Wickham & Caroline faded from the narrative naturally. However, the misunderstandings that could be completely eradicated by a single conversation carried on just a bit too long and the last 25%-30% of the book dragged for me.
Spoilers below! I also adored how Lady Matlock & Colonel Fitzwilliam went to the warehouse to spy before the wedding to ensure that Lizzy wasn’t a terrible person. Lizzy’s response to Caroline was great & Lady Matlock bringing Darcy around to her point of view about the spying was adorable and priceless.
I also loved how Lizzy maneuvered Wickham into revealing his true self to Lydia. I do love reading about Lizzy’ rapier wit!

Although Darcy and Elizabeth are forced to marry, and there are the usual misunderstandings of a young couple in love, this exploration of their relationship is a pleasure to read. It is honest, and the characters are not flawless. So it is also a journey into self-knowledge, into learning to communicate and to love.
I love all of the humor and raw honesty in this story. I was delighted in watching Darcy and Elizabeth find their way to each other. And I was absolutely thrilled with the way Elizabeth prevented the elopement of Lydia and Wickham, and Lydia's response to Wickham is epic.
Very enjoyable experience. This well written adventure was unexpected among so many other variations. Well done! The additional characters added dept to the storyline focusing on the emotional journey Elizabeth and Darcy had to travel. En!
I enjoyed this story. BUT... I really think its annoying for misunderstandings to last a long time before they're ironed out. I stuck to reading the story though, but towards the end , I coul admit, I had to skim through it to got to the point.
Too long, too clichéd, too many contrived misapprehensions and too much “here, have some angst” then “nope”. If one has to do a post marriage sequel, at least bring on the drama and intrigue!
Every one of S. Neha's books that I have read, I have completely appreciated. Each story has a different delightful take on our favorite P&P couple. In this story Darcy wants to look upon Elizabeth one last time before leaving for good after the Netherfield Ball with the Bingley party. Elizabeth has escaped from her home for a walk due to frustrations with her family and refusal of Mr. Collins proposal. During her walk she hurts her ankle and Darcy to the rescue. He tries to return her quietly to her home only to be discovered by several of the local town gossips thus a (no fault) compromise. Elizabeth hoping that it will blow over hears her mother arguing with her father and knows that she has no option but to marry Darcy. Negative gossip with help can be turned around but only with a good plan that has some truths. I loved what Darcy said to Elizabeth about their upcoming marriage: "And the courtship will last as long as it takes you to feel something more for me than gratitude," he added more softly. "When that happens, please do let me know at once, for I am most eager to submit myself to you." In this story you will get LOTS of Darcy & Elizabeth page time and even with this they had so many communication misses that could have cleared the air earlier; BUT they both have to deal with their feelings and not knowing how the other truly feels leaves them "at 6s & 7s". Another quote that hits home: "I married you because I love you, Elizabeth, with all my heart. I have loved you since the very beginning." There are many sweet moments in this story and one that I will read again.

Before leaving for London after the Netherfield ball, and fleeing from his attraction to Elizabeth, Darcy wanted one last glimpse of the young lady who fascinated him. He finds her needing rescue and carries her back to Longbourn, initiating gossip about a compromise. A forced marriage ensues, and Darcy begins the unusual process of courting his wife after marriage.
Lady Matlock insists upon preparing Elizabeth for the rigors of society, beginning an endless procession of shopping, teas, dinners, balls, soirées, and parades of members of the ton displaying their personality flaws unapologetically. D&E did their agonizingly slow courting dance, drawn out unnecessarily by misunderstandings and self-doubt. When they finally come to the point, they kiss...and talk, and talk, and talk...and talk.
This book is better edited than others I've read by this author. Most of the grammatical errors and odd phrasing are gone. The author still has an obsession with filler words: Oh! is used an astonishing 240 times! Hmm appears 89 times, and there's a scattering of Umm, Eh, Ah, and Erm. Disconcerting and distracting, but worth a read. 4 stars
Started well, but then it dragged on so much. The fight in the climax and the separation was so stupid and unnecessary. Elizabeth says something that hurts Darcy, immediately realises it and regrets it, but instead of immediately saying i lied, she just kept stuttering no no.. And then Darcy runs away to Rosings in anger and hurt. Elizabeth very well knew why, all she had to do was take 1 minute to say it, but for drama, this dragged on. Even after they reunite in Pemberly, both somehow immediately don't have the conversation for no reason, just so author can have another drama of a woman trying to lie to Elizabeth that Darcy is having an affair with her. Elizabeth immediately knows its lie so why even have this completely unnecessary scene.. All these in the end ruined the joy I had in the early chapters and i just wanted the book to end. After all the effort Darcy took, and how he continously understood her and supported her, this is such a step back.
4 stars until 70%, 1 star for the rest.

326 pages on my Kindle, this sweet story gives us a very attentive and honorable Darcy.
The author's story description does tell us that this is a FMS (Forced Marriage Situation). Ironically, Darcy decides he wants one last look of Elizabeth before he leaves Netherfield and returns to London where he hopes to forget her. He comes upon her just as she has injured her ankle and fallen into a stream she was crossing. Being a gentleman but also trying to avoid being seen, he carries her to Longbourn, approaching from the rear. HOWEVER, as fate would have it Mrs. Bennet has several of her gossip-loving friends visiting and the couple is seen upon entering the house. Darcy, of course, does the honorable and proposes. SPOILER: Gossip still won't drop their actions so they add to the spiel by relating that they were secretly engaged. END of SPOILER.
Darcy makes the decision to court Elizabeth and win her love before consummating the marriage. LOVED this Darcy. Elizabeth still has cause to dislike him: remember that insult and Wickham's accusations!
I enjoy FMS stories. I found little angst in it. Truly enjoyed this one and recommend it.
It was literally a simple misstep that landed Elizabeth Bennet in trouble and Mr. Darcy, too.
Unwilling to acknowledge his feelings for her, Fitzwilliam Darcy is prepared to leave Hertfordshire behind, but not before setting eyes on Miss Elizabeth Bennet one last time. On his way to Longborne, he comes upon a distressed Elizabeth trying to free herself from the icy waters of a stream. She's not having much success. In fact , she is in a dangerous situation. Cold , drenched, injured , and disheveled, Darcy rescues her and sets out to return her to her home. Sadly, the return is witnessed by some of the local gossips of Merryton. Now what? You know, ruin for them both or marriage is their only recourse. As the title suggests, this alternate path to happiness will have its slippery spots. Enjoy!
It was wonderful. There were no truly evil characters just some cads and attempted set ups. There were lol parts (many of them). My reason for 4 stars is Elizabeth and Darcy too long to discuss their problems. Truthfully it got in my nerves-they are bold and talk honestly at the beginning and the shif then become shy and fearful. Other than that it was a original and humerus . I enjoyed the twist and humor in this variation.
