Say You'll Ride

Rate this book
“Why me and you had to meet, talk, f***, and get caught up?”—Ja Rule

Stevie Bluehaven faces a tough break the number one street code or stay in an abusive relationship. Choosing herself, the twenty-seven-year-old dog groomer goes against the grain and runs to a new city with her baby, best friend, and the clothes on her back. Taking advantage of her fresh start, Stevie pours all her time into building her clientele and restoring her faith in herself. However, an impromptu night out leads her to a place inhabited by a dangerous man, with broadening energy and protection the runaway didn’t know she would need.

In a world where loyalty is everything, Shiloh Sharp is a man who commands it. As the owner of the hottest strip club in Silk Hills, he has a reputation of being a boss, and as the president of a notorious club, he’s created a reputation of being dangerous. No matter how others view him, Shiloh’s only concern is the way his daughters see him. With that in mind, the street racer offers a helping hand to a curvy woman who gets tangled in his beef. There’s no way he could know the act of kindness would lead him to confront his principles and people from his past.

Stevie and Shiloh don't have much in common except knowing the impact of breaking the rules. When given the option to ride or die, will the duo hold each other down or hold each other back?

Yes, ma'am! Always enjoy a lil fun, and drama in Silk Hills. Stevie was at the end of her rope, and running was the only way to escape the abusive hands of Matthew. She wanted better for herself, and her daughter, so when the opportunity presented itself; she took it and never looked back. Starting over is hard for some, but Stevie knew this was her blessing, and she made the best of her new normal with her besties in tow.

Shiloh, the man with the world on his shoulders, while taking care of his family. Nothing and no one outside of his family and friend circle mattered to him, until he met her.... Stevie blew into his life, and heart like a whirlwind, and Shiloh didn't know how to stop it. Did he want to stop it? This woman softened him, cared for him and his daughters, and allowed him to view the world in a way he never had before. But what now? I get that you felt you owed Maxine Shiloh, but damn! Ultimately whatever she did for you was her decision, taking care of her and her family all those years wasn't enough? 👀 You were doing too much, keeping secrets, and by not getting that crazy heifer under control! I wanted to bust yo damn head!! 🤬 Ughhhh....

I understood Stevie's anger, and rightfully so! But after some time to cool off, and a few vulnerable conversations they were back on track. Really liked this read, and I hope that Church is up next. 👍🏾👍🏾

This book was good.

Stevie deserved love and I’m happy she got to experience that. I want to hear from Church now cause if him and Blaze work it would be everything! Anyway, I’m glad Max died and I’m also glad Matthew was dead. Stevie deserved peace and pure happiness.

Baby this dude

Ok these two were so adorable! He knew the words to say. I enjoyed this journey with these characters. I love the way he confessed when it was time, how deep his love was. I love her gentle spirit. This was really good. A good girl bad boy trope. With a HEA!

SHILOH😮‍💨

Tucora, I must say the pen game is on point. This caught me from the very first page. I honestly wanted to jump onto when Matthew was acting a fool. That made me very angry. I’m happy Stevie got away from him. Stevie’s character is a woman on a journey of transformation, driven by resilience and a deep desire for freedom. At twenty-seven, she is at a crossroads, choosing between the familiar yet destructive confines of an abusive relationship or the unknown but promising prospect of starting over. Her decision to run symbolizes her bravery and self-preservation, showing that she values her emotional and physical well-being over the unspoken "rules" of her old life.
As a dog groomer, Stevie’s profession reflects her nurturing side, while her actions reveal her tenacity and determination. By leaving everything behind and focusing on building a new life, she exemplifies independence and self-reliance. Her willingness to take a chance on herself and her baby despite the odds demonstrates her deep strength.
Stevie’s vulnerabilities lie in her past, particularly the abuse she endured and the betrayals she likely faced. Yet, her openness to new connections—evidenced by her fateful meeting with Shiloh Sharp—suggests she is not entirely closed off to trust. Her growth arc is likely rooted in reclaiming her power, restoring her faith in herself, and redefining her sense of loyalty.
Shiloh, on the other hand, is a commanding, multifaceted figure whose dual life reflects his internal struggle between being a protector and a predator. As the owner of a strip club and the president of a notorious club, he embodies danger, authority, and an unwavering demand for loyalty. His reputation precedes him, and he thrives in a world where respect is earned through power. Despite his rough exterior, Shiloh’s humanity shines through his role as a father. His daughters’ perception of him grounds him and offers a moral compass in an otherwise murky world. This duality makes him a compelling character, torn between the persona he must uphold in the streets and the man he strives to be for his children. Shiloh’s encounter with Stevie challenges his principles, forcing him to confront not only his past but also his own capacity for kindness and vulnerability. His decision to help Stevie shows his protective nature and hints at a deeper need to redeem himself, perhaps for mistakes he’s made or people he’s lost.
Supporting characters such as Zulu and Blaze were chef’s kiss. I love them very much. And they bring such a beautiful dynamic to the story. Not to mention comedic relief. However, I loved all the supporting characters. Church is amazing. I’m so very excited to read his story. The club scene when the dog bit that man was one of the funniest parts of this book, but he deserved it. This was a good read. I love how protective Shiloh is of Stevie and how he quickly jumped into action when Plies went after her. Stevie and Shiloh are bound by their shared understanding of what it means to break the rules, whether it’s Stevie defying societal expectations to save herself or Shiloh navigating the blurred lines of loyalty in his dangerous world. Their connection is forged in vulnerability and necessity: Stevie needs safety, and Shiloh, in helping her, finds himself opening up to the possibility of change.
Together, they challenge each other’s beliefs and boundaries. Stevie pushes Shiloh to reconcile his past and his principles, while Shiloh offers Stevie a sense of protection and stability she didn’t know she needed. Their dynamic is a delicate balance of mutual growth, as they navigate their own baggage and learn to trust each other in a world where loyalty is often a double-edged sword.
Their journey is likely one of healing and redemption, with both characters confronting their fears and flaws. The sons of Eshu are so alluring it’s absolutely crazy. Reading this book is such an experience. It feels like you’re there with the characters. Overall, I love the story, and the author did her thing. Easily five stars.

🔥 My First Tucora Monique Read

Maaaaam!! This was an amazing read, the resilience and heart that Stevie showed proved how good of a person she was. Doing anything to protect her daughter and her peace. I’m so glad she had Blaze and Zulu to help her along the way. Her kindness and how she dealt with Shi was ultimately what made him so open to her. And girl. . .The way Shiloh was penned was for my heart! That man had me from his phone call with Max. Loveeeee an all about his woman ass thug. Chefs kiss! I realize I should’ve read The intruder first lmao but I’m ok with going backwards 🩷🔥

3.25 ⭐️🌶️🌶️ The chemistry in this book to me wasn’t as good as the first book, and some of the drama I felt like didn’t flow as well as the first book, but it’s kind of like comparing apples to oranges. I think the MMC was a good father, brother, and protector, but he did not have very good communication. The FMC was kind of bland even though she started doing wifely duties without the ring, which I thought was dumb because it came back to bite her.

I don't know, man..... started off strong but lost me halfway like they went from one interaction to staying together the next day and falling in love 😑😑I just felt like something was missing, and it wasn't even the trust cause that wasn't there to begin with but maybe if the book had been longer they could had more time to actually move from friends to lovers.

BDE

Ouuuuuuu (shimmy’s) this book was the perfect mix of everything. BDE, lunatic, surprise love, pregnancy, family drama, crazy ssa ex that’s not an ex. You name it. I loved it. Bayyyybeeeee Shiloh is my man okay. That mans marbles is lose af but I love him. He didn’t play, that man pulled his hitta out without hesitation no matter where he was. I loved his protective nature and how Stevie came in and threw his entire world upside down and right side up. He ain’t even know what was happening until he was in love. I’m so glad Stevie escaped her ex cause that man was psychotic and not in a good way. The fact that she actually opened up to Shiloh really warmed me. Now that no good dirty crazy looney Maxine got everything she deserved and was looking for cause she ain’t have no business thinking her and Shiloh was gonna be together especially when she was walking around with secrets. TUH! Girl bye!!! Please stop playing in my man face. Baby, Miss Tammy came through like the G I knew she was. Loved her!!!! Blaze I hope your story is next cause you and Church deserve the love I know is inside of y’all. You are the best friend that Stevie always needed. Stevie you were such a light that everyone needed and in the best way. You even let Mia no good dusty behind granny see her and that was so big of you cause she would have had to take me to court and swallow rocks. Great story Miss MaMas!!!!

Shiloh and Stevie. Stevie is a single mother who is running from her abusive past. Shiloh is an alpha male that's in the streets and owner of a strip club. Stevie's proximity to Shiloh puts her safety in jeopardy. Stevie and her daughter Mia move in with Shiloh for her protection. Meanwhile, Shiloh has a huge secret he's been keeping from Stevie. When this secret resurfaces, Stevie walks away from their love. Was Shiloh to loyal to Maxine? Yes. His loyalty almost cost him his life and his relationship with Stevie.

Shiloh + Stevie

Oh, these Eshu Men.. I'm reading them all out of order, but I had a feeling while reading Durk's book that Shiloh would be my favorite.
The overall theme and plot were so interesting. The character development was amazing. Love the side characters, even the kids.

I don't see anything wrong with what Stevie did to Matthew, considering the circumstances.
Yes, Shiloh was trying to or thought he should be too loyal to Maxine.
I'm glad Stevie let Mia make the decision on moving forward with Jada & Mrs. Peterson.

I wasn't sure about Shiloh and Stevie or how this story would go from the first 2 chapters but this story was so good. Shiloh is definitely a book bae and Stevie is the girl everyone would love to have as a friend. I'm excited to see how this series will go.

What can you say about a man who loves and respects his mother. The way Shiloh loves on his mothers says a lot about how he treats the women in his life. Although not completely unhinged the chemistry between Shiloh and Stevie palpable. This book will have you searching for your "blue".

Ughhh so much more potential. It’s a decent story that started off strong but it eventually went soft. The characters of Plies and Stevie’s ex got off too easy. Although Shiloh is written to be intimidating and no nonsense. We as readers don’t see much evidence of it. If you’re looking for a clean romance with a sprinkle of drama . You might enjoy this book

Stevie is a good woman that’s been wronged by almost everybody. Shiloh...he’s aight. 😆 I loved the sister circle Stevie gained from being with Shiloh. Those ladies are the stars of the book. And everybody needs a bestie like Blaze! I’m looking forward to Church and Blaze’s story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

For me this started off good, but some of the grammatical errors and slightly redundant statements threw things off. Overall it was mid (IMO).

I loved Stevie’s positivity, but at times it felt like she was being taken advantage of by Shilo. His actions regarding Maxine was too sketch or wishy washy for too long. By the time the ending was nearing, things were still ongoing. That was equivalent to a 3rd quarter break up. Like what are we doing? And sure his apology was good. But also WAY late.

Again, this was okay- but I didn’t love it like I expected too.

🥹 i love him. where’s mine?! 😂

I loveddd thisss one! O’Cyrus and Stoney were super cute but Stevie and Shiloh?! Yeahhh they’re the ones!

My girl Stevie was what a strong black woman is withoutttt being too strong! Her sweet soul was everything! Especially after all she’d been through. You wouldn’t expect her to have the heart she did, set boundaries, or been as loving and sweet as she was but no weapon formed! Okay! And baby, if snitching was the only way to get away from a narcissistic, psychopath for me and my child to get to safety?! Babyy what you wanna know?! 👀 I wanted more from Zuluuu but I loved her to see her friendship grow with the other Ladies of Eshu 😉

Shiloh 👀🥰 i love him! You could tell he was a good man who just kinda was doing him but like his mama said..he gon find his Blue! Let me gon head and say it.:he was far too loyal to homegirl. And she was stupid. You thought this man was YOURS cause you took a bid?! Lmaoo girl bye. He paid ya for that and not to mention he BEEN playing in your face. BFFR. She got what she deserved. Anyways 🙄
I loved seeing him turn into putty with Stevie instantly. That man was felt safe and secure 😭 ugh ima keep talking and tell the whole book smh! Read it!

BLOWN AWAY!!!

This book was written so beautiful and paced perfectly. While I am a very cultured woman, books who are hood to the extreme turn me off. “Say You’ll Ride” had just enough hood and just enough decorum to give me the balance I needed.

From page one my heart was in my throat. DV relationships hit me in a way I just can’t put into words, so Stevie getting her exit and finding a new home for her and her daughter Mia settled my spirit. I loved her friendship with Blaze and Zulu. They kept me laughing and I love how they didn’t play about Stevie or Mia.

The first meeting of Stevie and Shiloh cracked me up. Church (Shi’s brother) was a character and he gave Shi just as good as Shi gave him. I can’t wait to get his story. I’m also curious about Durk and Ishmel. I feel like I need to know which one is Essen going to get with. 🤔

Maxine was a character that had my nerves fried. Shiloh was too loyal to a trife female who was simply crazy and delusional. How many times and ways does a man have to tell you they don’t want you? I feel like Shiloh created drama unnecessarily. He should’ve just laid down the law from jump. Even after his failure to communicate the real deal, he could’ve simply corrected it by setting Max up with what she needed as his repayment and making it clear to Stevie and Max that Stevie was his and he was unmoved. Letting females in your house is too much for me but I’m a different breed. Max should’ve never crossed that threshold.

Also, I’m glad Stevie’s ex-husband’s family got their minds right because they definitely would’ve caught smoke coming for Mia.

All in all, this book was the perfect read for my evening getaway.

Star level: 3.5 stars Spice level: 🌶️🌶️
Trope: black love, strangers to lovers, instant attraction, car gang, miscommunication, 3rd act break up, found family, OWD
Trigger warnings: abusive relationship, DV, murder
Fav quotes: “Girl math says my birthday is every day this month!”
“You know, as strong as you are, you have to keep your heart, head, and soul on the same page, or shit won’t progress,” he preached. “If any of that is off balance, you’ll be off balance.”
“Look at your nails and your hair,” I grumbled. “Your daddy has no idea what to do with you.” “I’m willing to learn,” Shiloh spoke for the first time since we were alone. “I’m willing to do just about anything if it means you’ll come home.”
“You always wondered why I call you Blue. One day, my mom mentioned the term your blue and I looked it up. To keep it simple, it’s a person you barely know but click with. It’s someone you never get bored with. I guess, you can say they’re your haven. That’s what you mean to me, Blue.”
About the book: instant attraction like one page they were strangers and the next they are in bed together. The relationship was very fast pace with time jumps. Stevie has moved to another state to start her life over with her bestfriend and daughter after leaving her abusive husband. After seven years she finally has her life together. Shiloh street racer and owner of the hottest strip club doesn’t let women distract them until he meets a very curvy woman name Stevie. With all the pushing pulling and unnecessary third act break up they finally got their happily ever after

I liked reading Shiloh and Stevie’s love journey but both of them got on my nerves because they chose silence rather than communication with issues arose. I really liked the relationship that their daughters had regardless of whatever their parents had going on. Maxine was cray cray and I knew that she was going to end up unalived although I was shocked by who unalived her. Stevie had a real good friend in Blaze to uproot her life and run away to another state with Stevie and Mia. I copied and pasted the author’s questions so I can answer them below.

1. Would you snitch on someone you love? No if they were loyal and good to me but if I was in Stevie’s predicament then YES!

2. Do you think Shiloh was too loyal to Maxine? Not too loyal but too obligated.

3. How did you feel about Stevie forgiving Jada and Ms. Peterson? I think that it was a good decision that she discussed with Mia and allowed her to have input.

4. Do you believe love and loyalty are interchangeable? If I love you then I’m going to be loyal to you and I’m loyal to you if I love you.

5. For my hood lovers *hehe*, have you ever held a man down while he was locked up? Nope!

6. Which Eshu man would you like to read about next? Church, Loso, Durk, or Ishmael? Church and Blaze

Say you’ll ride

This was an enjoyable read. I loved how Stevie remained positive and looked for the best in everything instead of letting the weight of the unknown or the weight of drama to weigh her down. She was such a bright light and I feel that anyone who came into contact with her could feel that as well. Shiloh was a gangsta about his business but he couldn’t ignore his growing feelings for Stevie for very long. I enjoyed their chemistry and connection and how Stevie would call him out when necessary instead of being another yes person in his life. Maxine was a bit delusional and thought she could make that man love her like she loved him, but it was never going to be possible because she always presented herself as a yes woman and did whatever he asked without any pushback or having an original thought for herself. I understood Shiloh’s need to remain loyal to her, but our loyalty to someone should never come at the expense of our own personal happiness and desires if the two do not align. I would love to get a story about Blaze and Church next. The Sons of Eshu definitely have my attention.

Loved it!

I loved everything about this book. Ms. Tucora Monique didn't come to play, and I look forward to reading more of her work.

The best thing about this story was that Stevie and Shiloah fell in love slowly and built a semblance of a friendship before things turned romantic. Being able to experience the things they each appreciated about each other and watch it lead to their love made me feel and understand their connection more.

I also love that the book highlighted a healthy co-parenting relationship. So many urban books use the bitter baby momma scenario as a foregone opposition to the female main character. It was nice to read something different and positive versus a theme our community is often stigmatized for, though some baby mommas ARE a nightmare (usually because of the baby daddy 👀).

Lastly, Maxine is insane!! How you jealous of a man’s kids and the attention he showers upon them? Who takes a charge for a man who has verbally told and physically shown you that he doesn’t value you? I admired how Stevie handled her because lord knows I would've snatched her up. Maxine deserves everything she got.
