It's true that Richard Foreman's writings about theater are easier to read than his plays.
This book on his philosophy about theater is a gem. He is a totally unique individual who is uncompromising in his need for theater to confront both the performer and the audience.
Foreman speaks it better than I ever could: "Art is perspective; all perspectives are lies about the total truth; so art is a lie that, if strategically chosen, wakes people up."

I think George Clinton was referring to Richard Foreman when he wrote, "Free your mind and your ass will follow". Foreman doesn't mess around, one of a kind.......much like George Clinton.

They say it's better to see a Richard Foreman play than read it. Based on my reading some of his plays here, that's probably true.

Foreman's most accessible writings on his work in theater, a perfect entrance point into his aesthetic and process, which is as intriguing as his productions.
