Intriguing and thought-provoking, this debut collection of Golden Anniversary memoirs acquaints us with women we all know–educated, self-assured Black women. You will likely recognize or relate to the relationships depicted in these stores. Narrated in the first person, each woman details a long, hidden, well-kept secret of her marriage as she celebrates her 50th wedding anniversary. Maintaining 50-year marriages despite chronic illness, infidelity, financial abuse, and domestic violence, each character has hidden her marital challenges from public view for decades, presenting a persona of the happily married woman. King’s characters are stoic, sassy, prayerful, and indomitable. You will see how the travails of the marriage empower each woman and how all find their footing as independent women as they journey into the elite Golden Anniversary Club.
This book was short, but mighty I didn't want it to end, so I read it slowly. I didn't think it was depressing at all. The book was realistic about the ups/ downs of married/relationships. People wear so many masks on social media. The book also covered resilience, empowerment, and self reflection Round of applause Fantastic Job!!! I'd read it again.
