Wars started messy and depraved.
They ended the same way.
They couldn’t handle me— few could. I had the body of a large bird, mind of a lunatic, and personality of a divorced middle-aged woman with a shopping addiction.
I was perfect.
Sadie sobbed harder and whispered, “I have a confession— once in the beast realm, I enslaved Aran with my blood when she was asleep, and I made her get me food from the kitchen because I was so sore from training, and she doesn’t remember it.”
I rolled my eyes and replied, “Once I found a kitten and gave it to Sadie as a gift, and it kidnapped her.”
She exhaled. “You’re the worst grovelers in the history of grovelers.”
“We’re trying,” Scorpius said softly, “but we know.”
“I’d hate to see what not trying looked like.” She chuckled. “You’d probably just bash me over the head with a shovel.”
Malum screamed, “I’m not having a meltdown!”
Convincing.
Vegar resumed snoring.
“Okay, Mitch,” I mumbled.
“What?” Zenith asked.
“Male bitch.”
“Oh,” Zenith said, “makes sense.”
The leader of the kings let out a war cry.
“Save it for the battlefield, Mitch.” I pulled the blanket over my head with my free arm and tried to suffocate myself to sleep.
