Imogen Gray #4

Immortal Life

Rate this book
Immortality sucks. You know what sucks more? Mortality.

Imogen's on the verge of getting everything she ever wanted. The man of her dreams, a talented, smart kid who loves her, some amazing friends, she's finally safe from the ancient creature who keeps ripping her to pieces every time she tries to access her deeper powers – and she's only one step away from finding the reincarnation of her dad. Mortality is in her grasp.

What more could she want? How about a little self-sabotage? A teenage stalker? A homicidal naiad? Maybe a demon-infested evil book club?

Yeah. Immortality sucks.

I don’t often write reviews but I felt I needed to here

This series has been enjoyable - there are flaws, but on the whole enjoyable.

This book made me want to stop reading it altogether.

It felt contrived, repetitive, and the sheer idiocy of Imogen just made me want to give up. Leroy, who is still 13 years old and didn’t know magic even existed a year so is suddenly absolutely super powerful and can do anything. What was happening to Marigold was so bloody obvious, and the ‘I was worried’ repetition every couple of pages got old real fast. The misunderstanding with Rafael. For someone who has lived 250k years+ Imogen has no control over herself, seems to have the intelligence of a brick, and is absolutely childish and immature.

I will read the next one only because I know it’s the last and I hope that it wraps up well

Took me a long time to get through this book. Imogene's misinterpretation, marigold's problem, very obvious. Reusing the same issue as before seemed unoriginal. And worse of all, Rafael was mostly MIA.
I see book 5 will be the end, so I'll probably read it (although I skimmed a lot of this one).

I found a couple of things in this book annoying although I enjoyed it. Imogen is fighting with Raphael, to me it feels like she didn’t understand what he meant and is to stubborn to talk about it.
A spell backfires and instead of finding her father, Marigold’s demon father shows up. While this is happening, another spell is broken and Marigold gets effected by it.
For someone that is so old, sometimes Imogen comes across as very young and self absorbed. She’s confused and all of a sudden getting feelings, a sign of growing up and understanding things.
Similar to the others books in this series, this book has a fair amount of action, humour, interesting characters and interactions. The story is more about Imogen and her growing feelings as she discovers that she really loves those around her.
Again it was a quick, enjoyable read.

Imogen Gets in Her Own Way

*****Spoilers*****

The rival vampires from the east are taken care of so it should be smooth sailing for Imogen and Rafael from here with their engagement. But Imogen does a wonderful job in this one of getting in her own way when she misinterprets Rafael saying he doesn't want her to be mortal to mean that he wouldn't want her to be human and weak without all of her powers. In terms of books, I enjoyed this one the least so far with Imogen's attitude eating up too many self pitying pages. Otherwise, Imogen and friends face demons trying to open the portal again with the same spell as the Blood witch from the first book and eventually being thwarted after everything is said and done. Marigold is pregnant by way of magic and Father Benson dies at the end. Brandon seems to be regrowing his leg with the same magic that allowed Marigold to get pregnant and everyone seems to be learning at a fast pace. It'll be interesting to see how the changes that Imogen is experiencing in this book play out, in particularly interested to see what happens as she gets closer to discovering how to die. As to her father, my guess is the VET, it fits well but we shall see.

In this one, they have demons to deal with which is more than enough. Add in the magic and things get a little dicey. Not much of Rafael and Imogen though, very spotty their romance which j couldn't appreciate since most everything else is moving at a clip, this snails pace frustrated me. They do connect physically at the end of this book though so there's some of that tension released. Let's see what's up next.

okay the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because one of the best parts of the series is gone. With 1 book left to go what is going to make up for it.

This time the threat is demonic.

Father Benson has always believed the creatures he has Imogen deal.with are demons but they're not...... They're just supernatural but she has been called to an accident something demonic is in town nd it's not going to be easy to send.it back to Hell where it belongs. Added to which Imogen is dealing with some issues emotional and physical, everything and everyone Imogen holds dear is under threat and this.time there may be no winning the fight..................

3 1/2⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Really did not enjoy this one as much as the previous ones. Still love the characters, sass and writing but there was so much that wasn’t handled as well as it could have been with the plot. There was too much obvious foreshadowing, so all the plot twists were easy to predict and it sucked the enjoyment out of it. I thought the argument between Imogen and Rafael was ridiculous and didn’t make much sense when he literally explained what he really meant in that first argument.

2.5. There’s a fine line between funny dumb and too stupid to live. This book really straddled that line, which was not fun. The book also felt pretty repetitive at times, with actions repeated uselessly and never ending conversations with no change in topic.

action packed and entertaining urban fantasy series

This is an action packed and very entertaining urban fantasy adventure series. Great cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Probably best recommended for 17 or above. Imogen Gray is an immortal. She’s lived for hundreds of thousand years cannot be killed even if her body was burned to ashes her body would regenerate from a single piece of ash. And those cases it might take century to regenerate but she will regenerate. She is in a lot of answers and is currently living in the current day in the world. She’s living in a small beaten path town that is pretty exclusive with a being our club and Little downtown. There happens to be a vampire king that is the owner of the club a shifter queen in town as well which is mostly which but part demon. In a old Catholic priest exorcist. Imogen and her ward who just recently acquired. Read the earlier stories to find out all that information. Among her friends The town folk there is a giant portal that sits over the town. Many different paranormal creatures fake creatures and many others occasionally fall through it and she is helping the local priest seek them out and send them back. No spoilers so you need to read the books to find out is this the fourth book you pretty much know what’s going on already so. Get your reading and enjoy the adventure.

I loved it!

Warning: Occasional coarse language, sexual references and drug references. No explicit sex scenes. Content note for suicidal thoughts.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is Book Four of The Imogen series. This is a fun, fierce and fast-paced Urban Fantasy Series. A slow-burn romance, it includes a diverse cast of characters, shifters, witches, fae, cryptids and more.

Immortality sucks, but mortality sucks more.
Imogen's on the verge of getting everything she ever wanted, the man of her dreams, a talented, smart kid who loves her, some amazing friends, she's finally safe from the ancient creature who keeps ripping her to pieces every time she tries to access her deeper powers, and she's only one step away from finding the reincarnation of her dad. Mortality is in her grasp. What more could she want? How about a little self-sabotage? A teenage stalker? A homicidal naiad? Maybe a demon-infested evil book club? Yeah, immortality sucks. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

Whew!! That was intense!! No time for quirky banter this time! Imogen's life has become so much more complex and challenging now that she has allowed herself to love again. (It's strange to see her so emotional!) I, too, really care about so many of these wonderful characters. (Even wacky Brandon. Sure hope his leg grows back!) I'm sad to see the series ending with #5, though I never complain or question the author's choices. Talk about a cliffhanger!! Excellent writing, fascinating world building, engrossing story arc and absolutely wonderful characters. Complex and intelligent. Who could ask for anything more?!? ** My favorite sentence: "Sonja was strange, but then again, we were all different kinds of weird, so I couldn't really judge."

Queen Amelia & her Aussie traits is stealing the show

This series gets better with each instalment. I am loving it! The drama and intensity has kept building, but so has the emotional side. I even nearly cried near the end!

And I am having the best fun finding all the little Aussie-isms that are dropped like crumbs throughout the books! Who would have thought that the humble specky would have its moment of fame!? And of course if a football team (Aussie Rules style) is going to feature, no surprises that it's going to be the Pies. I wonder if it amuses other Aussies that read this book as much as it does me, to imagine what people think a specky really is...??

I'm going to be really sad to see this series come to an end.

{69} Immortal Life (The Imogen Gray series book 4) by Lauretta Hignett is a 5 ⭐️ read.
Imogen is getting closer to finding out the truth of what she is and how to change it but that doesn’t mean life is getting easier or quieter, she has a stalker who believes they are fated mates, she’s trying to sort out her feelings towards mating Rafael and there’s a demon or three in town causing havoc. I’m loving these books and while I want to know Imogen’s story I’m sad this series is almost over. This book was very well written and I’m not gonna lie I shed a few tears (not going to spoil it but just be prepared) September 30th can come quick enough.

Ahhhhhhhh! Exactly what I needed.

Book four is everything I wanted it to be when I started it a few hours ago.

Imogen is still on the search for her dad. She is also coming to terms with being happy. Like actually happy. Apparently it is confusing for someone who has lived so long to feel like they deserve it. But I think she does.

The book has lots of action and fighting. Humour and snark. Sadness :( and sexytimes. There are lots of things going on in town thatseems to always be taking Imogen for a spin, but this time she has more to lose, and its not what she thought.

Totally a good read. About to start the 5th one and see what happens next 😍

The rival vampires have been taken care of and Imogen should finally be happy. But she has been out of sorts lately, feeling things she has never felt like magic and intuition. So she gets in her own way with her relationship. Meanwhile, Marigold is dealing with a potion and it’s side effects, which causes her to screw up a summoning. A demon gets loose in town and brings friends. In this book, Imogen is growing as a character in some ways, but still her same old clueless self. This book was as well written as the other 3. And it introduces another hilarious character. It also gave me lots of feels towards the end and I must admit I almost teared up a little. Already on to the final book!

good

In reading this book, I feel that the FMC is getting closer to becoming mortal. I also thought she was kind of a dummy when she started giving her boyfriend the cold shoulder because of a comment that he made. She took it in the wrong context, and it took someone else to point out to her that she took his comment in the wrong way. I also felt like some of the other characters were being stupid because they could not figure out what was wrong with marigold even though the signs were there and I figured it out very easily. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

Summation of this book, for me, is learning to love yourself so you can let the ones you love return the feelings. Abandonment is powerful and can really mess with your head. Even if the people leaving you didn’t do it by choice or it was their time to go. Always being the one left behind can absolutely render one completely closed off and emotionally stunted.

Even though I can understand why Imogen is the way she is due to 200k years of losing everyone around her or people wanting to use her, I hated the way she reacted to what Rafael said at their party. Then to make matters worse they are barely around each other the remainder of the book.

Ooh, this one has SO MUCH going on! This review is hard to write because I want to tell you ALL. THE. THINGS! But I can't because then you'll know what's going on and won't even have to read the book. There's so much action, humor, and mystery with a side of miscommunication and Imogen-still-needs-to-grow-up-even-though-she's-literally-older-than-dirt. I read it really quickly and jumped straight into the next (and last! oh noes!) book of the series. I'm glad there are more series in this world with these characters, because I won't be ready to let them go for a LONG time!

Lots of interesting story lines, very enjoyable. I can't wait to read the next, but also wish there were more to come after Book 5. Imogen Gray is one of the best Urban Fantasy characters I've read, easily in my Top 5. She's funny, sarcastic, morally gray, but also humble and she's really opened her heart through the series.

I legit shed a few tears toward the end. I feel like I know who Imogen's dad is, so this is super exciting, and I think we're finally going to get to meet the Ancient.

Loved the series

**Spoilers**

But this book had so many holes. Like a wealthy powerful fiance who supposedly had a security team on her, they just let her be ambushed and tortured like that at the old lady's house. They're vampires for godsakes, they can smell the demon old lady in the house and they can hear so far in the distance, why didn't they warn her? Why didn't help her? Were they supposed to just observe? I find his power and means ignored in book 4.

For the love of criminy I CRIED

I loved this book. These characters caught me by all my heart strings. I laughed, I cried, I rolled my eyes. These characters are so real in so many important ways. Their trauma, their hope, their LOVE pushed them into characters who feel like friends. It's been a long time since a book got me this emotional. I highly recommend this series and all the others from this author. Amazing!

Refreshing, scintillating example of the genre

I'm an avid urban fantasy romance fan, and the last couple of series i have read have been terribly disappointing. This series has been a breath of fresh air, great characters and writing, enough anticipation to get you really engaged without being sappy. Loving it.

Action Packed and Fun

This series never disappoints. I love the world full of strange creatures. It was interesting to learn about Imogene's immortality. All of the main characters were well developed. Everyone is growing and changing as they experience each book's adventures and challenges. Highly recommend.

It wasn’t my favorite book of the series. The foreshadowing was really quite obvious but I did enjoy the reactions. Leroy is still so young and coming into his power, it’s nice to see for him. Imogen admits through the whole series that she is a dumbass so her argument with Rafael is pretty on par with her actions and thoughts.

I agree with Dee's review.
This particular book really frustrated me. I'll read the next to finish the series. If this had been the first book, I'm not certain I would have gone further. So much woe is me and repetition. Nothing about Imogen appealed in this one. Well, maybe her brief reaction to Father B's passing. That's it.

Okay this one is where I hit the wall, but I made it four books before getting bored which is impressive for me.

Rafael is virtually nonexistent this entire book over the dumbest argument and her just refusing to understand.

Then the plot lines were boring and did not really enjoy where it was heading.

I did enjoy Benson so that’s a bummer.

Oh well might as well finish this series

WOW.

I am so freaking absorbed into this series. This book specifically gave me everything I could have ever asked for from the author AND a bag of chips.
AND ITS NOT EVEN THE LAST ONE.

Lauretta Hignett, if you ever want to go out for lunch and coffee, I WOULD LOVE TO CHAT WITH YOU.

This time, Imogen and her friend fight with demons. And it seems that her love for her sort of family is starting to manifest and she is becoming a little bit mortal. Also, Marigold is pregnant! And the romance with Rafael got less attention. Add to that also some new funny characters as well as puppy love from Brandon and a glory from father Benson... and it turned amazing again!
