Lauren Carter Reilly grew up in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Surrounded by eccentric individuals and well traveled family members, she developed a love of storytelling. Lauren attended Mercersburg Academy where she was lucky enough to travel abroad, growing her love of all things haunted and historical. She went on to receive her BFA in theatre but feels she learned more from drag and burlesque performers then she did during her time at college in Philadelphia. Lauren still acts and models on occasion. You can find her in the background of several series and the foreground of a few, one-actors series online. She currently resides in Salem, Massachusetts.
Positively scrumptious. Sometimes love is just relishing the terror of being an immortal lady cannibal and imparting your life story on the descendants of the monsters that made you that way. I love Barbara so dearly. This little story reminded me to stay a little bit feral and hungry and never settle for less ✨✨
There is a lot of narrative packed into this debut novelette. Switching between the epistolary and the poetic, Lady B details a lyrical, fantastic, and romantic past to a grounded but mysterious present audience of three descendants.
I loved this book so much! I have both volume 1 and 2, and I devoured them like the Lady B! Seriously, I started reading this around 2:30 pm and read almost nonstop until 3 am, with only a break when I had to go pick up my daughter. The world building is astounding, and I love the back and forth between Barbara and the descendants, or past and present. If you love historical fiction with a paranormal twist and a dash of romance, this is the story for you!
I saw the vision, but it fell short. There were typos and there wasn't enough happening to get me invested in the characters. Not to say I disliked it—it was decent, but that was about it. Hopefully book 2 will give me More(TM).
Listened to the audiobook - Lauren Carter Reilly has such a beautiful voice in performing and storytelling, keeping my interest and getting my appetite up for more.
Edit: Reading Volume One, though, I was surprised by the formatting choice on page. It reads as poetry or diary entries but, the text being in the centre of the page still throws me off.
This was my favorite book of 2023 (fictional story specifically) I read it in one sitting and I am currently waiting for the second volume to arrive in the mail
I told everyone I could about it. My elevator pitch for it was It's about a cannibalistic woman and her odd and decadent life.
