Artemis University #23

Obeying Beliefs

Rate this book
My name is Tamsin Vale, and I’m the future queen of Faerie. That’s right, I finally said it. No more being the heir or reminding people I didn’t agree to the job.

Now I have and mostly because I think I’ll actually be a good queen. I have the right qualities, and I don’t let the wrong things distract me from what is important.

Even if being queen comes with situations and duties not part of the role, but because I’m the most powerful magical wielder in two worlds. Though, I do bring some of that on myself.

Like saving Mary Craftsman and any witch or warlock who might go over the edge because their species doesn’t cleanse the way fairies do. Just small things like that.

I have help and guidance, everyone supporting me along with everything else I have to handle. So I’m not alone anymore handling too much, but at the end of the day, it all falls on me as the future queen.

Queens get vacations and like sabbaticals, right?

I’m just asking for a friend.

Artemis University is an ongoing, hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right…
And who she ends up giving her heart to.

*This book is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Like all my books, this is not light and fluffy and includes dark themes and events some may find triggering. Reader discretion is advised.

This was the first Artemis book I was truly disappointed in. Not much happened and there were far too many time jumps. Way too many. I hate time jumps so much that I will drop a series for having one and this book had so many I lost count. It’s not like a couple of days would pass either but weeks or a month would pass. I have always felt time jumps are lazy writing and I hate that they were used so much in this book. I have seen plenty of readers complain of this series having a bunch of filler but this was the first book where I fully agreed. I didn’t care for reading chapters about food challenges and theme parks. It just went on too long for me. Plus it just seemed like everything was all over the place and the time jumps just made that worse.

Spoilers ahead:

The last chapter got me. I honestly wanted Luke to have a redemption arc and to fall in love with Tamsin. I think he would have made a great mate to her as he would understand her past better than any of the other men. Sadly he died and it didn’t have any build up, it was out of the blue and just sad. I get the author is gearing up to the finale and is trying to tie up story lines. It was just disappointing I suppose. A hobgoblin drugging Tamsin is wild. I don’t get the point of that story line and it honestly sucks that her first mating was taken from her control. I hate that. Craftsman had fully redeemed himself and they deserved a better mating than this mess. On another note, I still don’t like Darby. He is my least favorite mate after everything he has done. It is odd that Tams was so sure in her visions he would leave her for another woman but he ended up not seeming interested at all in her. What was the point of that entire story line if it was never actually likely to happen? So much angst for little to no realistic issues for them as a couple. It also made it seem like her visions were absolutely pointless if they could be so unrealistic. My question is why was she so sure he would leave her for a stranger? Not a healthy relationship at all.

Overall, I just didn’t get the BA Tamsin in this book (she wasn’t weak just nothing really happened that presented a good opportunity for her to shine). Hp
Hopefully the next book has more story than filler about eating challenges and theme park visits. A couple of pages is all that is needed for that content to nail home the point.

Okay where do I I start with this. To be honest this was very close to being a one star review but the last 20 percent saved it

We are now 23 books and God knows how many pages into this series and it is going nowhere

I feel like there should have been chapters from lukes perspective or more involvement as he was such a key character a few books back they spent more time about Tams vision about Darby and the other vampire which actually went nowhere.

I adored this series but what I loved is dwindling, Mel was such a major part of her life and was completely cut out never to be seen again, izzy appears fleetingly but more for comedic value, even her mates are not working together effectively.she went from being an amazing FMCwho knew her own mind to clingy and vapid.

Lost its luster 12 books ago…

Honestly I’m so tired… I’m tired of this series, I’m tired of never making any progress, and I’m tired of the same plot being written and rewritten.

This book was a solid 1 ⭐️ up until the 96% mark. Then it gained .5 a point for making me feel actual emotion after what has felt like a mind numbing experience for so long, This may seem harsh, and while I LOVED Tamsin’s original storyline, we are now 23 books in with little to truly show for it. I appreciate character growth and while the guys have been improving vastly each book Tamsin’s progress leaves much to be desired. I will note I do value her stance on becoming more responsible in terms of her public appearance and perception!

HALF of this book was basically about the food she is eating!!! She doesn’t get full attention for a few days and pouts so they travel the world to participate in food challenges.. again.. and they are way too descriptive and don’t match her attempts to fit in with the regular world - seriously what person eats 22 sundaes in public and overlooks the part where that’s not normal.

I’ve come so far so I hate to give up on this series but seriously I beg someone, anyone, bring back the magic of the first 10 books. Let us finish this story and move on. We do not need a deep thorough explanation of every food challenge or a layman’s breakdown of fairy magic, what we need is a conclusion! Enough with the drawn out plot (feels more like a cash grab these days) let it end.

On a critical note: All of these books would benefit from additional editing and sentence restructure. I’m someone who can easily look past minor editing errors but many of these pulled me out of the story. Personally the voice of these books lean more towards a level of immaturity than anything else. On a semi positive note, this series might perform really well as an audio book given the spoken like nature of the dialogue utilized throughout! I understand we may stop ourselves mid-sentence to redirect what we are saying, and while it works occasionally in a printed format, using this format repeatedly comes across as more disjointed therefore making it difficult to read easily.

I really think this series could be something magical! It’s unique and alluring but to get that point I believe there would need to be massive editing + condensing of books to keep the magic/mystery alive without making me (as the reader) feel as though I have to put in excessive work to get from point a to z.

Confusing and repetitive

I felt like 80 percent of the book was all over the place except a few crucial scenes and the finale.
I would advice the author to wrap this serie up. It keeps repeating same story jealousy, bad comunication, people being assholes, book after book its the same

Please note the following review encompasses books 20 through 26 of the SERIES. As each book depends on the prior books, I am not reviewing each individually to cut down on repetition. Following this review, I will be one final review of my reading experience throughout all 26 books.

As always, I will endeavor to minimize spoilers, but please read at your own risk.

Ok, it's been 19 books, and I haven't really touched on the totally delicious guys in this series. Mostly, because I wasn't sure who was staying and who was going. Because believe you me, Tamsin has her choice of treats. But I want to talk boys for a bit.

Let's start with our dragon. Hudson is a dragon prince, and his dragon, River, is as sweet as pie. Both love Tamsin wholeheartedly, but Hudson needs to learn when and how to pull his head out of that place the sun doesn't shine. He makes more than his fair share of mistakes, but unlike real life, there is almost always a redemption opportunity. I was thrilled he took it.

Next, there's the sexy warlock professor, Julian Craftsman. He is quite literally too smart for his own good. I was ready to throw the towel in and look for a replacement, but, like Hudson, he pulled off a miracle to get the girl. As much as this man frustrated me, he still managed to make me swoon. This man is Fine with a capital F, and the support he ends up providing for Tamsin would not have worked so well for anyone else.

This is the one y'all are looking forward to. Our geeky vampire tutor turned attorney. Most notably, he is the only one of Tamsin's mates that she purposely chose. Everyone else is a fated mate, but she loved Darby enough to tell Fate and the gods to F off. Darby is far from perfect, but he is the normal in her world that's spinning wildly out of control, and let's face it, it's impossible to not find him loveable. He brings a lot of baggage though, and it is incredible to watch him work through it all.

Lucca's relationship started with a ... lie of omission? Not a purposeful misrepresentation, but it still set their relationship back. Truthfully, I didn't expect him to make the final cut, but Lucca worked his butt off to fix his mistakes, to learn and grow from them, and unlike the rest, he doesn't make the same mistake twice. And Harry, his bear, is just too adorable.

And this leaves us with Neldor Donovan, Prince of Dark Fairies, aka Prince of Darkness. When first introduced to Neldor, I knew he was going to be vital to the plot, but I wanted him to die in a fire regardless. He was just flat out mean to Tamsin, but as the story progressed, his character made subtle changes to his attitude and behavior, and I realized that I like the guy. For all of his faults, he ends up adoring Tamsin, and more than any of the other relationships, this one left me with warm fuzzies.

Expect my final review of the overall, full series in a few days.

However, as always, Iwant to leave a content warning of sorts because mental health matters. Contained in the story so far, you will find racism, classism, prejudice and past trauma (physically, emotionally, and smexually.) There are also forced abductions, bullying outside of the harem, references to ongoing trafficking, violence, attempted forced mating and SA, intimate partner abuse, family disconnect and related trauma from both sides, and discussion of forced breeding. Characters have ongoing mental health issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, fear of abandonment, grief & loss, self-worth issues, and suicidal ideation. Please know your limits and read responsibly.

A great addition and wondering how this ending leads into the next beginning......

I like how the beginning half covered summer vacation and how the second half started tamsins last school year. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the school year and her graduation pans out.
This book...... a little in the middle and the very end made me cry like a bitch* baby. Not necessarily bad tears but kind of sad at the end and in the middle I just felt what tamsins must have been feeling in that moment and it really hurts the feels.. i am glad that things for the most part seem to be going in a good direction. I'd really like closure with Julian's bitch* of a mother and the a**hole hobgoblin. Since hobgoblins have the kinds of powers they do I really hope that the jerk one is made an example of because what he did was baaaaaad.
Anyway its another amazing addition to the series and I will be dying and relentlessly checking FB updates for the release date of 24. I'll be so damn sad and empty when this series is over because I am so totally invested in it since the very beginning and it's been a long time since the first one came out. ( I think the only other series I've stuck with this long was harry potter books and movies). So overall another amazing addition to tamsin's life and I can't wait to see what the ending of this book means for the beginning of he next one!
P.s. I also loved how tamsin got to go to Orlando and the Harry Potter world there. Oh and how Hershey Park was mentioned cause Ive grown up an hours ride from there so that was cool.

Conflicted

I loved the writing but *hated* the ending. I don't want to start with a spoiler, but it broke my heart. But there was a lot of happiness in this book, and as usual, I could not put it down. I read it yesterday, them again, then one more time today. Too much happened without enough context for me to digest immediately. I do like my reviews to be in the first few, but that's mostly my ego talking. 😉

The book was awesome, but I'm confused about the timeline. How are we on Tamsin's 6th year already? I missed something, so I'm going back through the last few books. Between the announcement and release date, I reread half the series.
I am wondering about a couple of things that have been hinted at: Lageos mentions wanting to visit other worlds, as if there were many, when he was introduced. What other worlds? Is he actually from yet another planet? Can he visit the plane of the demons? The gods? How about Tamsin? Is she a goddess? She has several people she'd like to visit in the afterlife, and Lageos has hinted that he has actual knowledge of the place. Lots to ponder...🤔
I am looking forward to the next book, of course. This was an excellent installment and well written, as usual. Few, if any, typos, characters are growing and developing nicely, the worlds continue to develop, and it is a satisfying read overall. Excellent work, Ms. Flynn. 9/ 10 unicorns. 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄

Gaaaaahhhh that ending 😭😭😭

This installment was so good!! All the relationships are thriving, their summer break is living the dream, Tams is being a badass Queen to be protecting her ppl, and Julian is so freaking amazing thru everything that happened 😍 I need me a Julian 🤩

But omfg that ending had me bawling my eyes out 😭😭 I really wanted things to end well for our wolfy ally 💔 If this is how I feel for him, I am so not ready for Lageos to make his exit. I’m gonna need a whole box of tissues when it happens 🥺

Also, I’m going to be so sad when this series is over cuz it has me by the throat 🥹 Thank you Erin for this amazing series and characters 🫶 So excited for whatever you write next! ❤️

Seriously!

An exceptionally long series of books is usually just a lot of rehashing, making up drama and without a lot of new arcs. Nope, not this series! The "drama" is life, raw, happy, hurtful, disappointment and love. The "rehashing" is looking back at what the history was that brings each character to their current point, and some learn faster than others (idiots!). The progress of the Faire world in three years is realistic and on point. Of course there are always those who want more, faster, or just more power. This series is the only one I stop all other reading to get back to. It's just that good!

Sorry for the loss!

This book is getting back to what I loved about this series in the beginning. Other than some editing work, it accomplished much with few words. Some of it was written a little confusing, but I've learned to decipher Ms. Flynn's style of writing. There were a few instances where her style showed Tamsin to be conceited, selfish and egotistical, but I'm beginning to see that's the way she's has been portrayed throughout most of the story. I'll continue to read this series because it continues to hold my interest more often than not, I also want to see where the story ends up.

amazing as always….some spoilers

Erin did it again, tears, laughing and awww moments!! As she nears the end of the series as things begin being wrapped up we see new insights to people. I’m sorry to see Luke die, I was hoping he would survive and help her lead the misfits or the overlooked. The closer Tam and each of her mates get the more in love with them I get. I’m glad Julien was first, I love how much work he has put into getting it right. I can’t wait for the next one!! ❤️❤️❤️

I'm a mess

It was as amazing as I expected! Im happy with the progress Tams has made with everything. I'm still not the biggest Darby fan and wouldn't really be upset if he fades, but I know that won't happen. I only really have a few words for the ending, though. Erin, how freaking dare you! I love you for making me feel all the things, but I'm so pissed at you for putting me through that! It was amazing, but I'm going to be mad at you for a while because feelings aren't rational.

Omg

I mean... Speechless. How are we at book 23 and I'm just as invested, if not more?!?! Sure I skip over a lot of the spicy parts, you can only do so much before it's repetitive, but the story.. whew. Hopefully there has been so much growth if the characters I can absolutely see this series going 3 more books. The natural doing point would be graduation and there is still a lot to cover to that point.

I REALLY hope this series doesn't go too far like GOT but I'm still in it

Growth

This book felt like we were actually going somewhere with the story. I could see the characters growing. Finally, we didn't have to deal with another fallout between the characters. It seemed like before that the author kept falling into a writing pattern. It was making the story not progress, not really. Now, this story felt like we progressed, and it was nice to read. I look forward to figuring out what happens next for this found family. I am holding my breath for when the dad dies.

One of the best series!

This series is amazing with great characters. Erin R Flynn is a wonderful writer with an excellent imagination. Tasmin Vale is a wonderful character who has grown from book 1 to book 23 and I look forward to seeing her grow into her future with all 5 of her mates. From the first book to book 23 the story and characters captivate your attention and you can’t put the story down until the last page and hope that there are more of this story to come. Thank you Erin and I look forward to book 24+.

Read all 23 in 24 days

Could not put this down. I started at the beginning just a few weeks ago and just binged read for 3 weeks. It is very hard for me to find a well balanced book that keeps your mind engaged and well written. I love how detailed these books are as I am able to literally recreate the images perfectly I feel immersed into Tamsins’ world. She is so relatable in so many ways. All I can say is I can’t wait to read the next ones!! It is very much worth the read and a series I could actually enjoy re-reading.

Originally a 1 star review, the ending unfortunately had to push it up to 2. Luke was a great character, even if the author decided to smother him with half-winded plots and a handful of great scenes with Tamsin.
Otherwise, this was the chaotically written, poorly edited and progressively erratic sequel that I've become used to. The timeline is so sketchy now, I've given up on even trying. I don't know why so many pages are dedicated to outlining her classes each semester when ultimately the school chapters aren't even about her education or the events on campus. I don't know a lot of things.

heartwarming and heartbreaking

I absolutely love this series and this book really did add to it, it was everything you need for the book with a heartbreaking ending that had tears rolling down my face, even with all the good that happened in the book, oh my god that ending hurt and yet answered so many questions!
Absolutely can’t wait for the next book and I’m so happy with this book and how the series keeps progressing with each new book!

Wow. Erin has really turned this series around for me in these last few books, but especially this one. It got way too dark for me to fully enjoy the series in the second third of the series, but there’s been a lot of growth lately. This book was such an emotional roller coaster. I was laughing, then crying, then awwwing, and bawling by the end. Fair warning, that ending is rough….fits and makes sense, but rough. This one was seriously well done though.

Wow

I always knew there would be some heartache and heartbreak along the way. All good stories have it. Erin knows just what to say in her books to keep me on edge until the last second. This book shredded me just right. I am so excited that we are in the last year at Artemis and have made so much progress. Tams is getting better and better and I am so glad she has such great support now.

I hardly have words.

This is one of, if not my favorite book series of all time. Across all genres. I reread it at least a few times a year since I found it in early 2022. Tamsin’s story has a chokehold on me. This installment, just like every one before it, was thought provoking, emotional and brilliant. I had all of the emotions. I cannot recommend this book and series enough and I can’t wait for the next book.

Ending gives hope for return to form

I have enjoyed this series a lot. I love the badassary of Tamsin. However, I feel like the plot has gotten lost, a bit like Izzy, over the abundance of relationship issues and their relations. It kinda feels like it's going the LK Hamilton route all smut little substance. I am vehemently hoping that with this ending, the next book will swing it back around.

Help I'm crying

Oh my lord what an amazing addition to an already amazing series. Don't think I needed to bawl my eyes out before bed yet here we are!
The emotions, the development, the Julian... this was exactly what I needed and more and I can't wait for the next one.
(But also I love karma so I'm just a bit of a book junkie for your books)

Oh my freaking goodness, I’m fan girdling my rear here! I did a humongous happy dance. No spoiling it, read it please. The ending was a bit brutal. I’m also scared because I so much want Legalos to live somehow and no that’s not what gutted me in at all. Just had me thinking about him and how much I want him to live…

Book 23...

Book 23, and I still find this story interesting. The ending of this one was just woah... It was heartbreaking, sad, lovely, kind, and so many different emotions...

I feel the end is near on this journey with Tamsin and her men, this being her last year at the academy. I've enjoyed the ride this far.

I look forward to seeing what's next to come....
