The Beacon On Kill Devil Hill

Rate this book
In early 1942, some 82 Allied ships carrying vital war materials to England were sunk by German U-boats along the North Carolina coastline known as "The Outer Banks. This story focuses on one particular German U-boat and the interaction of some of its crew and a country sheriff's deputy from Dare County along the Outer Banks. The authors have meticulously researched the operational capacities and intricacies of the Class 7 U-boat, as well as how poorly protected the eastern coast of the United States was from January to August 1942, the time-frame of this story. Kill Devil Hill is the large sand dune on which Orville and Wilbur Wright began their first glider flights at Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks
