A GILMORE GIRLS MEETS HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS BATTLE ROYALEDarcy Miller spends her days working at her best friend’s veterinary clinic and her nights cozied up with a romance novel and her pet hedgehog, Bernie. Darcy prefers a quiet life, avoiding change like a plague, and feeling a strong loyalty to her family, friends, and Aveline-- the small, quirky town she was born in. Aveline transported you back to a time when things were simple, slower, and where everyone knew everyone.
That is until a handsome stranger, Penn Murphy, arrives, stirring up questions about his intentions in their charming town. Penn is from the city, only worried about building a career and the money that goes along with it. But when his big plans to transform the hardware store her father owns are out in the open, Darcy makes it her mission to preserve it at all costs. While Darcy’s determination to send Penn packing develops into a clever strategy to drive him from Aveline, Penn’s interest in her only deepens.
As unexpected emotions arise, and their carefully laid plans begin to unravel, both Darcy and Penn must decide where their futures truly lie and what they are willing to sacrifice to find happiness and love in Aveline.
Another delight in the Aveline series ❤️ It’s major How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days vibes, but they outright acknowledge it and that’s kind of the whole point, so it’s not like it’s trying to steal the idea or anything.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Listen, I am all about the vibes when rating and this one checked the boxes! Fun & funny cute small town romance. I loved it !
Darcy Miller loves her quiet life in the small town of Aveline. In a tight knit town where everyone knows everyone, a handsome new stranger in town has everyone excited. When Penn shows interest in purchasing her dad’s hardware store and making changes to their town, Darcy decides it’s her job to run him out of town. Her plan looks great on paper, but she quickly learns she may have gotten more than she bargained for with this one.
+ Enemies to Lovers + Rom Com Vibes + Small Town + Protective MMC + HEA
The dramatics! This book had me giggling the whole time. I loved the banter between Darcy and Penn, especially when they first met. This is a cute small town romance with nosey neighbors and corporate grumps.
3.5⭐️ for this witty and captivating small town romance! The banter between Darcy and Penn had me giggling my way through this read, Lindsey has a special ability to write an entire towns worth of captivating characters, whilst still keeping you invested in the main couples storyline.
This is made for romcom fans (and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days meets Gilmore Girls,) that love the tension between main characters that will do anything to avoid the fact they’re clearly perfect for each other.
Thank you to NetGalley and Lindsey for sending me an ARC copy of No Vacancy in exchange for my honest review💕

Lindsey did an amazing job combining Gilmore Girls and How to lose a guy in 10 days it made you escape reality and into a rom-com alternate universe.I love the characters and Aveline sounds like an amazing place to live in.It did not disappoint at any given moment. When Penny Bear did his grant gesture my heart melted not to mention Cordelia absolute best.
No Vacancy by Lindsey Cord. #NoVacancy #NetGalley Mini summary Hedgehog 🦔 Childhood store 🔨 Rom-coms 2000s 🎬 Enemies to Lovers 💕
As a huge Gilmore Girls fan, I really wanted to enjoy this. Unfortunately I felt no connection to the characters, I felt like everything was copy/pasted from popular shows/books, the timeline as well as the characters’ behaviors felt very random and not cohesive.
I’m glad to see others enjoyed the book, but this one was just not for me I guess.
Heads up to other readers that it is a “closed door” romance.
Cozy small town and rom-com vibes friendenemies to lovers? Dual POV ❤️ Darcy and her humor/banter in the beginning. She had me laughing out loud with her race car references. PENN? Penn Badgley? Yess minus the stalking 😍 I wish there was more groveling 🤭 in the end, more of an apology Enjoyed getting to know what was going on in Aveline and all the townspeople.

This book was soooo cute and made me want to go rewatch Gilmore Girls for the 50th time and also watch How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Love the characters and Aveline!
Tropes: • Enemies to Lovers • Quirky FMC • Small Town
Thoughts: This book is absolutely hilarious! It has that classic 1990s-2010s romcom vibes! It's the perfect combo of Gilmore Girls + How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days! If you love quirky small towns and books that will genuinely make you laugh out loud you'll love this book! Highly recommend!
No Vacancy is a closed-door, small town romance with haters-to-lovers vibes in the quirky, small town of Aveline. Darcy, the FMC, is one of my favorite FMCs ever. She’s so funny and quick, but she has a heart of gold hiding underneath.
No Vacancy is an interconnected stand-alone
🦔 hilarious closed-door romance 🦔 haters to lovers 🦔 quirky small town 🦔 super witty FMC + an MMC who loves her humor 🦔 funny pranks 🦔 steamy plays
Thank you, Lindsey, for letting us back in to Aveline and giving us these amazing new characters to be infatuated with!
This can be read standalone! At least that's what I did. I loved the premise of Gilmore Girls + How to Lose a Guy in 10 days! One of my favorite shows plus one of my favorite movies? Yes please! Who doesn't love a small town feel like stars hollow. Aveline even had town meetings. I loved the short chapters in this book. I flew through the first 80%, but then for some reason the ending dragged a bit for me. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it anymore? I don't know. But it's a good lighthearted rom-com and I'd read this author again.
Lindsey does it again and makes all my Hallmark dreams come true!
Darcy is stubborn and witty and just hilarious. I loved getting to see her be the focus and watching (reading) her character grow! Penn is the perfect match for her and the two of them are like a quirky tennis match. Lindsey sprinkles in random pop culture references that honestly just makes my heart happy.
If you know me I’m a sucker for anything that Lindsey rights, but I promise this isn’t a biased review- No Vacancy should be on everyone’s reading list!
4.5 ⭐️The way I wish Aveline was real is painful !!! I’m obsessed with this town. This book was so fun, the banter was on point, the characters were great, and the plot was fun. Darcy is one of the most hilarious characters ever, she was written so well IMO. Lindsey is a fave author of mine after reading Meet me in Aveline and I’ll continue to read whatever she puts out. (Please make more books in Aveline. I’m truly obsessed)
Well, this was just adorable. Darcy and Penn had really good banter and I had a very fun time reading this. Seeing her try to chase him away was so funny and I loved it.
No Vacancy by Lindsey Cord (The Aveline Series #2) Rating: 4/5 Release Date: 28 May 2024
Darcy Miller finds solace in the familiar rhythms of her days, tending to animals at her best friend's veterinary clinic and finding comfort in the pages of romance novels alongside her beloved hedgehog, Bernie. With a penchant for the quiet life and a steadfast loyalty to her roots in the quaint town of Aveline, Darcy cherishes the simplicity and familiarity of her surroundings, where time seems to move at a gentler pace and everyone knows each other's name.
However, the tranquility of Aveline is disrupted with the arrival of Penn Murphy, a suave stranger whose presence sparks speculation about his intentions in their close-knit community. Penn, hailing from the bustling city, is singularly focused on advancing his career and becoming wealthy. But when his ambitious plans to overhaul the hardware store owned by Darcy's father come to light, Darcy becomes determined to protect it at any cost.
What begins as a mission to oust Penn from Aveline evolves into a strategic game of wits, as Darcy and Penn find themselves increasingly drawn to each other despite their opposing agendas. As emotions run high and carefully laid plans unravel, both Darcy and Penn are forced to confront their desires and consider what they're truly willing to sacrifice for a chance at happiness and love in the idyllic haven of Aveline.
Darcy and Penn's banter is nothing short of delightful! Their playful exchanges and undeniable chemistry make for an endearing dynamic, even as they tease and challenge each other relentlessly. It's truly entertaining to witness their efforts to conceal their true feelings while simultaneously falling deeper for one another.
The townsfolk and charming setting add layers of humour and warmth to the story, creating a comedic goldmine that had me laughing out loud throughout. Every character contributes to the hilarity, making the narrative all the more engaging and enjoyable.
Overall, the story strikes a perfect balance, offering a satisfying blend of humour, romance, and character development. I'm left feeling thoroughly entertained and content, eagerly anticipating more tales set in this captivating town with its delightful inhabitants!
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op, and the author, Lindsey Cord, for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest and fair review.
🔨 The vibes: - dual pov - Enemies to lovers - City MMC x small town FMC - I Love Lucy level antics - No commitments - Lies / deception
📚 My thoughts: The main thing to know for this one is - go into it knowing this will be a wild and unhinged romcom. 😂😂😂
🔨 When Penn comes to Aveline on a mission to buy out the hardware store that belongs to Darcy’s family- he has no idea what he’s signing up for. Darcy wants to scare Penn away and have him running to the hills, so she initiates her Andie Anderson Plan. This plot pulls very much like How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days while fully adopting it into the story.
🔨 As Darcy tries to scare Penn away, she starts to see more to him than just the enemy she first anticipated; and as Penn falls for Darcy- he struggles internally with his own secrets and deception. Lies, secrets, and deception play heavily into this one and so many times I was just yelling at everybody …. tellllll. him/her. the. TRUTHHHHHH. But yes yes - it adds to the angst and the drama of it all.
🔨 Now- I definitely enjoyed this one and was invested in the story, but you have to know going in that you will hit ridiculous I-Love-Lucy level antics with Darcy. I typically don’t love when plots have silly antics- so I did have to let go and just have fun and enjoy it for what it is. And I can honestly say that once I suspended belief, I was able to have a really fun time.
🔨 It felt very different to me than Lindsay’s other books in a much more light hearted tone. If you find her other books too heavy, try this one because you may love it!
🔨 Overall- it was a good time, though I wish that we had gotten more time with Penn and Darcy in their sweet moments. I liked them together a lot, but sometimes their connection got a little bit overshadowed by Darcy’s Andie Anderson nonsense. Also there were time jumps over sweet moments that I would have loved to see.
🖤 As always - I will 100% be reading anything Lindsey writes.
Note- closed door; this one does have language.
Release date: May 28, 2024.
Thank you so much to Lindsey Cord and NetGalley for the gifted copy.
Darcy is dramatic, hates change, and doesn’t trust people. Penn is a city boy who has come o buy her family’s hardware store and turn it into a hotel. They both try to mind games with each other but the more time they spend together, the more it becomes real. I honestly didn’t like Darcy, I wasn’t a fan of her personality, I thought she was overly dramatic, hypocritical and very stubborn. I liked Penn but I wish he ended up with someone else tbh
Nevertheless the book was fun, cringey (because of Darcy so it was on purpose) and good to read until the miscommunication trope and third act breakup hit 😭 then it went downhill from there 🫠
Usually I like a little OM/OW drama but when I’m seeing one of the MCs getting together with someone else I’m done with the book. Penn had the opportunity to but he didn’t take it, instead he realised he wanted Darcy. THATS HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE But noooo I had to sit there and read about how she picked up her old crush and make out with him ugh - now I like Darcy even less than before
Then their make up was TERRIBLE. That’s it?? “I’m sorry too” wtaf 😭✋🏻 Darcy should’ve apologised properly, why did Penn have to do everything when she was equally in the wrong.
I was honestly done with the book at that point. Maybe someone else will like this book, but it just wasn’t for me at all 😭
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC, I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Gilmore Girls and How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days are two of my favorite things. Lindsey Cord has managed to take these two things and create a great book. No Vacancy tells the story of Darcy Miller and Penn Murphy. Darcy works at the local veterinary clinic and spends her time reading books and participating in town events. Penn Murphy comes to Aveline to scout out a location for his business. That location just so happens to be Darcy's dad's hardware store. Darcy being deeply rooted in town tradition will not under any circumstances let Penn get the store. Both Penn and Darcy make plans to get the other to have a change of mind. I loved the small-town vibes in Aveline. It really is like reading about Gilmore Girls. There are town celebrations and everybody knows everybody. I also loved Darcy as a character. She is not afraid to speak her mind. I wasn't too sure about Penn in the beginning but by the end, I was rooting for him so much. This is the second book in a standalone series. While this book can be read by itself we get to see characters from the previous story. I loved all the callbacks to the first book. Content: closed door, strong language Thank you to NetGalley and Lindsey Cord. These are my own opinions.
This book is such a great romantic comedy! It is a nice, lighthearted, and funny read. It was exactly what I was looking for after finishing a heavier series. This book is set in Aveline and follows a Hallmark romance movie script. Penn, the big city guy, comes to the small town and wants to buy the rundown old hardware store for his boss and tear it down, then build a resort. He makes an enemy out of the daughter of the store owner, Darcy, who wants her parents to be able to retire but doesn't want the shop to change. Darcy and her friends come up with a plan to do what Kate Hudson does in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and scare Penn away. Penn and his boss decide he needs to take Darcy on dates and charm her into letting him buy the property. I loved this! How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was one of my favorite movies to watch growing up, so to have this be a theme in the book had me absolutely enthralled in the story. I also loved the way Darcy felt so relatable as an FMC. She is a book nerd who feels lost career wise and doesn't know what she wants for her future. She is such an easily relatable character and so funny. I absolutely loved this book and definitely recommend it to all romance and rom-com lovers.
I found Lindsey through her book, Meet Me in Aveline. I fell in love with the town of Aveline and the people who live there in that book. No Vacancy is also set in the town of Aveline. It is the story of Darcy and Penn. Darcy grew up in Aveline and Penn comes into town to purchase a piece of property, Darcy’s family hardware store. Darcy doesn’t want the hardware store sold to him so she attempts to take a page from the movie, How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days, to get rid of him. Reading their journey had me laughing so much. I adored this book. (I absolutely loved all the Vampire Diaries references as well!) I’ll be honest and admit that once I found spicy romance/fantasy romance I didn’t really have much interest on reading them without the spice. I do have exceptions and Lindsey is one of the them. When I read her first book I honestly thought I was getting a spicy romance book. I devoured it, loved it so much, and wasn’t disappointed one bit that it wasn’t spicy like I expected. I was excited when Lindsey asked me to beta read for her and yet again I loved the book and didn’t miss the spice at all. You can definitely read this book as a stand alone but I very much recommend reading both Meet Me in Aveline and No Vacancy.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARK in exchange for an honest review.
This book is now my holy grail! Scrolling through Netgalley romance books I went across this cute cover and sent in a request for an ark. I'm so happy I was approved because this is now my favorite romance I've read in a long time! Darcy and Penn are the perfect example of dislike to lovers. This book had great banter, friendships and family relationships. Reading about the people in Aveline makes me wish it was a real place. (Even though they'd probably watch me like a hawk) From their multiple festivals and traditions to how the people of Aveline always look out for each other and are like family. I loved Darcy and how stubborn and dramatic she is and always has come backs coming left and right. I also loved Penn who was the mysterious new person in Aveline who gives Darcy a run for her money especially with comebacks. It was also lovely to read about Bernie and how he's a fashionista with all of his outfits and costume changes. I can't wait till this book is out to get my own physical copy to put on my shelf! Darcy and Penn are now one of my favorite book couples!
Thank you to the Author Lindsey Cord, the publisher Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review. This review is published on GoodReads on 4/30/24. This review will also be published on Amazon once reviews are open.
Lindsey Cord did it again. I couldn't swoon for a book or an author any more than I already am. I had a smile on my face through this whole read. I don't know if it’s because of the little town called Aveline that makes me so happy or the characters that Lindsey creates. But it’s like a hug you didn’t know you needed. She is an auto buy author for me and she never disappoints. I also adore the little easter eggs she leaves in her books about The Vampire Diaries. Girl from my own heart. I really hope this series continues, I cant be without Aveline for too long!!
This book will be released on May 28th, 2024, and I can’t wait for more to read it!
P.S I read this wearing my cozy Meet me in Aveline sweater from Clay and Bella.
This is my second novel I have read by Lindsey as I only found her books a few weeks ago and I will tell you they are a gem!
Lindsey writes closed door romance novels that are fun, engaging and quirky. Lindsey has such talent in making Avaline feel relatable and realistic to the reader. From the very beginning of this novel to the end I was laughing and hoping for the best for Penn and Darcy.
Darcy is a spunky hometown girl whose father owns the town hardware story that is going up for sale. Penn, is an out of towner who comes to town with the hopes of taking over the property and putting in a restaurant. The banter and tension in this novel is AMAZING and I love how both are willing to give their feelings a shot.
If you are a fan of Gilmore Girls this is for you! It also has great elements similar to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I adored this novel and cannot wait for more!!
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Lindsey Cord for the opportunity to receive an arc of “No Vacancy” my final rating is a 3.5 ⭐️ • romcom? ✅ • small town? ✅ • enemies to lovers? ✅ This was my first book by the author and while I’m not blown away by this book or the writing, I enjoyed reading and am highly considering reading the first book in the series. At about the 60 chapter mark is where it fell flat for me. I was hooked early in however if you want a slow burn feel this one isn’t it. Although the book takes place over the span of a couple of months, it doesn’t feel like it. I also found Darcy to be annoying and unbearable sometimes. Lindsey did a great job at the small town feel, I wanted to so badly visit Aveline!! I absolutely loved the romcom feel, I just wish the slow burn would’ve been there and we get to see the moments of Darcy and Penn falling in love more. Altogether I think if anyone is considering reading this or starting the series to do it!
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op for this ARC. I read No Vacancy without reading the previous Aveline Series book and it was still so good. I think I'll go back and read the Lettie and Tuck story now too (I love that they are included in this story). Lindsey Cord did a great job of making me fall in love with this little town and made me laugh out loud multiple times. I loved the references to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days as well as other pop culture. I'm most impressed with how lovable all of the characters in this book are. Something else I enjoyed about this book is the fun spins on normal tropes. This was a different grumpy x sunshine vibe than I've previously read. Also, a different take on "fake dating" as well. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy storylines like in the movies "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "The Proposal." Also, if you enjoy quirky small towns, this book definitely delivers.
I made it two chapters into this book and messaged the author to tell her I already loved it lol who by the way is the sweetest person ! From start to finish I enjoyed this book! I was lucky enough to be given the chance to read this as an ARC, if you love small town rom coms PLEASE read this when it releases on May 28th. If Gilmore Girls or How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a favorite of yours….READ THIS BOOK👏🏻 After a hilarious meet, Darcy realizes Penn is in her small town and sniffing around her dad’s hardware store that’s for sale, she’s not happy and knows there’s more to why he’s here. This book is set in an adorable town reminiscent of Stars Hollow with characters so lovable, nosey, and hilarious added with the town events that are adorable. Bound and determined Darcy sets to “Andie Anderson” Penn right out of this town if it’s the last thing she does. The scenes and dialogue in this book were my cup of coffee 😉☕️
