The DeVille Crew #1

Scars & Trust: DeVille Daughters Duology Part One

Rate this book
Luca worked his way to the top of his local fighting ring, but has to leave it behind and move across the state to join The DeVille Crew.
He’s pretty sure it’s the mafia.
And his first assignment sucks. ‘Security Detail’ is a nice way of saying ‘glorified babysitter’ for the boss’s hellion daughters, who make it their mission to annoy him.
He never expected to fall in love with one of the unhinged sassholes he’s sworn to protect.

Ariana runs a little wild with her sister by her side, because life’s more fun that way.
And she doesn’t want a bodyguard cramping their style.
Luca’s a hot-as-sin, certified grump-ass giant with tattoos and muscles and…
Okay, maybe she wants him a little.
But wanting someone related to the people who took her in as kid is wrong, right?

Their world is a dangerous place.
When a threat lurks in the shadows, they’ll both stop at nothing to keep the other safe.

Scars & Trust is Part 1 of the DeVille Daughters Duology.
It has a guaranteed HEA for this couple, and they're featured heavily in Part 2 as side characters.
It is also the first book in The DeVille Crew series.
It contains mature content and is intended for readers 18 and up.

Miley Howard

2 books65 followers
Miley Howard is a magical unicorn who resides in the mythical land known as the PNW with her daughter, husband, and depending on when you’re reading this, possibly still a hamster... She’s wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember, but her stories stayed on random bits of paper, in cheap notebooks (never the nice ones collecting dust on the shelf), or in an app, if they were lucky enough to make it out of her head at all. Many were lost to the Great Void of “I’ll remember that later/in the morning/when I get out of the shower,” especially before smart phones were a thing. According to her husband, she drinks too much coffee, eats too much cheese, and owns too much stuff, but no one asked for his opinion, so screw that guy. Miley loves to read and write spicy stories with happy endings. Her list of book boyfriends is long. Her list of story ideas is longer. And her TBR is out of control.
When creating a female main character, Miley often makes her sassy and gives her a best friend who is just as important as the love interest. And that love interest is tits over toes for her. Just as they should be.

Wow... this is all over the place. I think it's a debut novel, but I gotta be honest and say this isn't it. 😬

This really doesn't have to be more than 500 pages since a lot of what happened was just about Luca (20), Ariana (20), and side chars daily mundane things. It felt like going in circles, and I just couldn't understand why this was taking so long for no real reason. 🤧

The suspense was maybe 10% of the story, while the rest was all about their everyday lives and the weird relationship and codependency between Ariana and Lilith (h's sister/bff, also Luca's cousin)

Until the very end, the MCs and Lil are all still sleeping in the same bed. 😩 And tbh, that setup was too awkward and strange for me. I was really hoping Ari and Lil would have some sort of separation (a bit) since Luca is already in the picture, but nope, he just got added to the duo instead. It turns out they're a package deal, and he has to be fine with it. 🫠

I just don't get how he's the love of her life, but her sister is her soulmate. It seems like they can't be apart for too long because of that. It's just way too strange for me, and there's no way I'm dealing with that.

I'm really sorry, but this is mostly an awkward read. 🤧 Not even the dual V can save this in my eyes.

Book info:
- Dual V
- Insta-love
- Violence
- Kidnapping
- Assault (physical, attempted sexual)
- Strangers to lovers
- Forced proximity
- Bodyguard-ish romance
- No cheating, OM/OW, separation
- HEA (married)

Notes:
- The FMC and the bff met when they were 5, and she has deadbeat parents. So the bff's parents decided to adopt her and treat her as their own daughter.
- The amount of weeds and booze taken by these two girls was so alarming. I won't be surprised if they end up becoming addicts. And it's even bothersome that their parents are cool with it. I mean, hello, underage drinking??
- The MMC and the bff are cousins, as their fathers are brothers.
- The FMC and the bff are immature and childish for a huge part of the book. They're supposed to be 20 but they act and talk like they're in middle school. 🤦‍♀️

PS. Going over all of my notes would take an eternity, so I'm not going to.

FINALLY! I've been waiting crazy for this moment. To share my thoughts about this book. Wow what a shitshow it was. First of all, why not someone suggested to cut off a 100 or so pages of this book to the author. It was unnecessarily loooongggg. I mean why write 500 pages for a contemporary romance when it can be done within 300 pages? . .
Ew. Just ew. I've been on a slump for more than 2 months, why? Because of this book
All the cute scenes felt forced, also I didn't relate to a single character of thie book. Why? Because everything was so bland. The characters. The scenes.
Yeah but the sisters bond was really something i would want for myself except for the part that all three of them (Aiana, Lil and Luca) sleep together. Okay it might have been cute for you. But No. I don't want it for myself.
I got ARC of this book 2 and a half months ago, and I'm just so confused that my other booksta friends rated it 4-5 stars and here I am rating a 2 star. No regrets.🖐🏻
At this point i just read this book so i can tick it off on my goodreads 'read' section.

I picked this up last month, and since I was pretty busy last month and these past few weeks, it took me some time to complete it, but I still had a good time reading it. The plot was quite interesting, but I wished the mafia side of the story had been explored more.

The characters were all unique and endearing in their own way, except for a few (iykyk). The family dynamics of the DeVille family are everything, and I live for the bond that Ariana and Lil have with each other. The way the two sisters had each other’s backs and pulled pranks on each other or the people around them had me tearing up one moment and laughing out loud the next.

Luca and Ariana’s relationship was also too cute to handle, and I adore the way Luca accepted her for who she is. The way they both understood each other and how they accepted all their scars and demons was just so precious, and I also love how he understood the connection between the two sisters. The ending felt kind of rushed to me, and I had so many more questions in my head, but I could see those questions being answered in the next book (probably?). Overall, it was a fun read, but I wished we had more character and plot development.

Mafia adjacent romcom that will make you laugh out loud but that will also bring the emotions . Luca + Ari are a match made in heaven and they certainly know how to give you a good belly laugh with some of their chapters . And then other chapters they will prove to you that inexperience can still be smoking hot . But I will admit that Marco + Mia have fully stolen my heart and I don’t know how anyone couldn’t love them . They are the best parents and so down bad for each other that they truly don’t care who is watching lol . I did find at times the flow was a little off and this is a THICK girl so be prepared but still so good ! I’m excited to see what part two will have in store for us !

This is book one in The DeVille Crew duology and it can be read as a complete stand alone .

This book was given to me for honest review by the author .

DNF: it’s written like a wattpad book. The plot is just daily life, the writing is basic and clunky, and the characters are very one dimensional.

This book is all over the place. Calling it a mafia romance would be a misnomer.

Tropes: Grumpy sunshine, Insta love, forced proximity, bodyguard , found family spicy: 3🌶️

Some of the scenes are cute. I liked Marco and Mia more than the main characters .
Luca & Ariana their chemistry is perfect but the Ages 20 was a bit not for my liking that too in a mafia romance nah…

Sisterly bond Ariana & Lilith is cute but at times it feels childish !

Its an okayish read. 2.5⭐️

Imagine coming to a found family that teaches you what life should be all about!

Ariana Deville has long lived with her scars; mental and physical. She has been battling them, fighting them. Ultimately not letting them control her any longer than needed. Life wasn't kind to her when she was little but, the turmoil brought her a sister-turned-soulmate, Lilith Deville. Lil's parents, Mia and Marco, become hers just like she always deserved.

Together, Ari and Lil put the Devil in Deville! They go through life on their terms and damn if anybody has a right to utter a word otherwise. Their shenanigans only endearing them even more to everyone around them!

Into in this mix enters, Luca Deville, Marco's nephew. He instantly feels a string connecting his and Ariana's heart. He doesn’t know why, doesn't know how or when but, feels as if the heart in his chest, an unfeeling organ, has finally snapped into place, locking Ariana in its wake. Living under the same roof, he gets to know Ariana; her past, her fears, her laughs, her moods, her quirks, her Lil, JUST HER on the whole. He's furious on her demons for making her suffer and angry on himself that he has been kept afar from this treasure trove of a girl for this long. He remedies it and they both become each other's! They live and fight together; coming out victorious in the silly game of life, often not taken seriously!

Ariana and Lilith are meant to be each other's family; not until one finds her better half but, forever! Luca's sensibilities are open enough to understand this relationship. He's secure in what he feels for Ari and content enough with his place in this dynamic. Ariana LOVES him even more for this; making their bond stronger! Marco and Mia are the best parents to both the girls; not only do they understand their girls but also, consider Luca to be one of them since the start and encourage his maddening love for Ari at every step!

Miley Howard's debut novel takes you on the road to recovery by emphasizing the importance of having the right kind of people around you. She brings in the insight of how acceptance, support, togetherness and love can transform us. It’s a palette cleanser in the romance genre; getting you ready for more in the future!

Okay, so I’m currently 27% of the way into this book and I’ve been fighting for my life. I’ve read 20 chapters of nothing but the MCs dancing around each other and learning how dependent the girls are on each other. Why is this book so unnecessarily long dude.

If you are looking for a plot driven book, you won’f find it here. But if you want smut and around the clock hard-ons, then go wild.

The writing is very juvenile and makes the girls seem way younger than their actual ages.

I jumped to the end because why not? I should’ve just stopped while I had the chance because they now all sleep in the same bed.

There are so many things about this book that I can say but I won’t spoil it! This book is the most accurate romance grumpy x sunshine trope that i’ve ever read. As a girl near the FMC age range, I can relate to the feelings that Ariana has throughout the book. The references the Deville daughters make are so similar to the ones me and my sister make on the daily. The way Miley Howard can create such a cute romance is great, especially for a debut album, but the friendship/sister scenes of the Deville sisters had me sold. There are a few editing errors and misspelling but as expected for what i’m assuming is a self-published novel.

(arc review) thank you for the e-arc 🤍

I expected 'Scars & Trust' to be an enjoyable book based on the blurb and tropes, and it was exactly that.

First of all, the thing I found amazing was that all the characters were good, like they were so supportive without any toxicity in the air around them, the healthy dynamics were so good to read.

Luca, though he was a grumpy guy with lots of mood swings, but I can't deny the fact he was entertaining and funny, his character was well written.

And the female lead? Ariana? She was everything which was promised in the book trope. She was sassy, bold, cute and funny - a combination of all. Reading about her didn't feel boring, she kept me engaged throughout the book.

Also, I loved how the author wrote Ariana and Lilith's friendship, the sisterly bond was protective and heartwarming. I loved the he strength of their friendship, in fact, i always love a good female friendships in the books i read.

I liked Luca and Ariana's first official meet.
What they had was such a good representation of 'grumpy x sunshine' trope. Their relationship was filled with hilarious banter and bunch of sweet and spicy moments.
I adored the growth of their relation from friends to lovers (or soulmates).

The focus on family moments was another strong point, especially Luca's journey from reluctance to acceptance into The Deville family, it portrays the found family dynamics very deliberately.

In conclusion, 'Scars & Trust' is such a delightful romcom book with all the necessary elements set in a darker background filled with not so good pasts and some other dark-ish themes.

Where do I even start??
Maybe by asking Luca to give my heart back. Or maybe even suing Miley for making me cry and feel loved at the same time. Or perhaps being jealous of the Deville sisters because they were everything!

Thank you so much, Miley, for writing this book. I absolutely devoured it from the dedication up until the epilogue. Everything was written with utmost perfection.

Luca and Ariana were so perfect for each other that even Cupid cries when he sees them. Luca was the darkness, and Ariana was his light. It just fits!

If I ever find myself a man like Marco or Luca, I’ll consider myself winning at life. The way they shower love over their wives is just too adorable.

I can’t wait to read more about them, and I’m absolutely excited for Lil and Parker’s book (I’m shipping them so hard)!

"Scars & Trust" – A Perfect Blend of Sass, Smut, and Sweet Moments

Review:-

4.5⭐

"Scars & Trust: DeVille Daughters Duology Part 1" by Miley Howard is an intoxicating mix of sass, smut, and heartfelt connections. This book will have you laughing, swooning, and maybe even blushing.

Here's why it's a must-read:

LUCA AND ARIANA: Sparks Fly and Hearts Melt From the moment Luca first sees Ariana, it's game over. He’s instantly smitten, and he dives headfirst into understanding the DeVille bonds and Ariana’s complex history. Despite Ariana’s ADHD and her tough past, Luca is a rock, handling her with care and compassion. And let’s not forget that unforgettable moment when Luca said, "fuck it," and kissed her for the first time. I squealed! It was smutty, hot, and everything you'd want in a steamy romance.

LILITH: The Sassy Best Friend Everyone Needs Lilith isn’t just Ariana’s best friend; she’s her sister and Luca’s cousin. The dynamic between Luca and Lilith is a comedic masterpiece. Their banter and playful insults are pure entertainment, but beneath the jabs lies a deep bond. Luca is genuinely thankful for Lilith’s unwavering support of Ariana, even if it comes wrapped in snarky comments.

Sassy, Classy, and Unapologetically Fabulous Ariana and Lilith are the queens of sass and class. They’re gorgeous, fierce, and a bit bitchy in the best possible way. Their strong personalities and unwavering loyalty make them incredibly relatable and endearing. Their adventures are filled with laughter, tears, and a whole lot of attitude.

Luca’s Journey to Family and Belonging Luca’s rocky relationship with his own family makes his discovery of warmth and acceptance in Ariana’s home all the more touching. He finally feels what he's been missing, and it enriches his connection with Ariana. It’s a heartwarming reminder of the importance of found family and the healing power of love.(Added to list of book boyfriends😉)

BANTER AND BONDS: The playful exchanges between Luca and Lilith are a highlight of the book. Their constant teasing provides much-needed comic relief and showcases their deep, albeit unconventional, bond. Luca’s gratitude for Lilith’s presence in Ariana’s life is palpable, adding another layer of depth to the story.

HOT AND SPICY ROMANCE: Let’s talk about the spice – it’s smutty, it’s hot, and it’s everything you need to keep the pages turning. Luca and Ariana’s chemistry sizzles off the page. Every intimate moment is charged with passion and intensity, making their love story both steamy and compelling. Ari is obsessed with pink but she coloured her hair blue, because THAT'S LUCA'S EYE COLOUR.

So grab a copy, get cozy, and prepare to be swept away by the DeVille daughters and their wild, wonderful world.

A must read!!!!💙

Omg, where do I even start with this one?! First, my mind is absolutely BLOWN that this is Miley's first book! It was INCREDIBLE and I am a goner for her writing—hook, line, sinker. I laughed through 95% of this book, snorting and all. It was hilarious! And the chapter titles were also absolutely on point, as well as hilarious!

The DeVille family is something else, and has formed a sort of, what I deem, "good guy mafia". The plot is amazing and while the spicy part is a slow-burn, this story is ANYTHING but a slow-burn. Be prepared because it is a long read but oh so worth it! It was seriously well-developed with no holes that I could find, and the characters were incredible--relatable, funny and so loving.

Ariana is an absolute feral little hilarious firecracker and I absolutely adored her. I related to her so much with the ADHD, and love how much of a sassy, disobedient brat she was.

Luca was also incredibly hilarious and just an amazing MMC. So understanding, kind, patient, and the best thing to happen to Ariana. They have a sort of unconventional love story that is so endearing and melted my heart.

"F*ck. I'm f*cked. It's like in the movies when the guy sees the girl for the first time, and everything goes all slow motion, and he has hearts in his eyes, and the audience is all 'awe cute, but that sh!t never happens in real life,' except it's happening to me."-This is just one of many things I highlighted while reading this and not even the funniest little inner monologue piece in this book.

The rest of the family was absolutely incredible and made me wish I had that sort of family growing up. Close-knit family is a major theme in this book along with overcoming trauma, wreaking havoc, finding your soulmate, and facing adversity head-on. I cannot wait for book 2!

“I can feel my soul, my heart, connecting with hers. This girl means something to me.”

SUMMARY

Scars & Trust by Miley Howard is a steamy dark romance mafia-ish set in Vegas, Nevada.

Luca has worked hard to reach where he is at his local fighting ring, but because of some “Circumstances” he has to move with the Deville in Vagas.

His first job is to babysit the boss’s two daughters who, for the better part, are stubborn and playful and can annoy one very easily. But things change when he starts to feel something for one of the daughters.

Ariana is wilder than her sister, her ride-or-die, and her best friend Lil. but then she starts to feel things for her bodyguard/ babysitter.

When a threat is in the periphery, they both will do anything to keep each other safe.

REVIEW

THE BOOK

This book is soo hilarious. I have laughed, cried, snorted, and giggled a lot. All 500 pages of sassy-ness and banter and I loved every second of it.

The funniest thing is the chapter titles. I literally cannot choose a single funniest one. There are just so many.

Ariana Deville is “THE” sassiest one and always gets in trouble. Loved and adored by everyone and was a pain in the ass for everyone too. She is a fantastic baker, Shooter, Driver, and such a funny person.

Luca Deville is the fighter and the grumpy babysitter. And he had soo much devotion and love for Ariana and she deserves all the love in this world.

Lil omg, what can I say about her? She is soo fun and like cares soo much about Ariana and is always there for each other there are soo many good side characters. Very excited about her book.

Marco and Mia, are like the sweetest couple ever seen in a Mafia romance. I mean, it was not like hardcore, but there was a mafia. They both love their girls soo much it was soo good.

Things I love in this book

I have read soo many mafia books but after reading this I knew what I was missing. The mafia boss loves his daughters. Like they care for their daughters, but not like Marco Deville and I appreciate it.

The whole Vegas Deville family is soo welcoming and inviting and warm.

Love the nickname they have for each other. Minx and beefcake.

I got to know some pretty new things like what Tamagotchi is which is very interesting.

Love the references like all the references: Taylor Swift, the movies, and everything.

Like from the first time Luca and Ariana met till the end, we see a lot of character development, and Luca and Ariana both are comfortable with each other, which was very heartwarming to read.

The coffee cups are so hilarious I WANT ONE CUP LIKE THAT TOO

THE WRITING STYLE

It is a dual POV, so plus points. The chemistry between them was written soo good like we can feel it while reading. The pace was perfect. There was not one time I thought that was a filler chapter. The whole book was soo fun. When I read the chapter titles I get so curious about what is going to happen here. Loved every character in the like every single one except the obvious ones, of course.

FAVOURITE QUOTES

“Luca, someday, if you’re lucky, you’ll meet a woman who will become the center of your universe. A woman your entire world will revolve around. If she tells you no Maserati, then no Maserati.”

“And something tells me that if she said I couldn’t buy a Maserati, I wouldn’t buy a Maserati.“< /blockquote>

~AHHH Love the callback. If the quote was not too big I would have put it up as the main one

“Fuck. I’m fucked. It’s like in movies when the guy sees the girl for the first time, and everything goes all slow motion, and he has hearts in his eyes, and the audience is all ‘awe cute, but that shit never happens in real life,’ except it’s happening to me.”

~awe cute, but that shit never happens in real life (My real reaction)

“Something settles inside me. I didn’t realize I was missing something. But I was. I was missing her. This girl holds the other half of my everything.”

~ they are soulmates

“For life. Ride or die, best friends forever, sisters of the heart, platonic soulmates, and all that jazz.”

~ love Lil and Ariana and their relation

I received an ARC of this book at no cost from the author. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Scars & Trust: DeVille Daughters Duology Part One

I had never thought a Mafia-ish romance could make me laugh so much and squeal with delight on more than a few occasions. The DeVille Crew is phenomenal in every respect- this is the kind of family everyone needs and deserves to have. "Marco, you've raised two pretty amazing daughters".

Marco and Mia are also #couplegoals and as mentioned once in the book, they remind me of Gomez and Morticia Addams from 'The Addams Family' (this is one of my favorite TV series since childhood!). You have to read the book to find out how each of the family members reacts to this lovey-dovey married couple. It's cute and oh-so-hilarious.
-------------------------------
Ariana is sunshiny and sassy but can be vulnerable and needy too. She is fun to be around and loves doing crazy things with and around her loved ones. Oh, the times I have had to force myself to stop laughing when her POVs came up (The book is in Ari and Luca's POV which makes each incident and moment feel complete). I have fallen in love with her just like everyone in the book who is sensible and who has had the opportunity to know her. To know her is to love her.

The detailing of the dark and traumatic parts of Ari's life are done beautifully by Miley, such that while I cry when the parts are explained, I go to the next sentence and am not weighed down by the heavy stuff. And the heavy stuff is seamlessly built into the main story and comes into the limelight only in the second half of the book.
--------------------------------
Luca has his own demons to put to rest but his deep, unconditional love and devotion for Ariana is just . They are "two people who truly belong together". Lilith aptly puts it- "Ari and Luca, it's like watching two halves of a whole come together". And what changes Ari brings about in his life are endearing to read.

And Luca and Ariana have some really sizzling chemistry despite both being inexperienced and being one another's first. Watch out for the super steamy parts-this book is meant for readers 18 and above.
--------------------------------
"She hooked our pinkies together and said we were going to be best friends forever." Lilith is Ariana's best friend and soul sister. Even though they don't share the same DNA, they are like fraternal twins, joined at the hip. Miley has explored different situations involving both balls of energy that are Lil and Ari and none disappoint. Reading about their shenanigans make for a delightful and humorous read. How did she even come up with some of the preposterous actions is something that Miley should share with her readers! That could be a Bonus chapter .
--------------------------------
Becca, Parker, Ford, Sully, Anthony are all part of the DeVille Crew, either by blood or by their soul and each has a warm side that is portrayed in one or the other way in the book.

This book has evoked a myriad of emotions in my heart and head and I'm so glad I got a chance to become a part of the DeVille Crew as a reader. I wish for every family to have the love, trust, connection, honesty, camaraderie, support that all of them have between and for one another. It is like how it goes in the song 'Paris' by The Chainsmokers- "if we go down, then we go down together"

Please read this book because:
"You might not realize it, but we're good for you. And you're good for us too. All of us."

An amazing Debut book😮‍💨
It is damn entertaining from the start to till the end.
Filled with love, heartbreak, family, soulmates and a lot of weird ass funny moments😂🫶🏻 Also with quirky and fun chapter titles and page text✨

Luca comes to work for his uncle Marco and meets Ariana(A strong, sassy, weirdo girl) and falls head over heels for her. Their relationship dynamics were so amazing,I loved how Luca cared for her but never tried to change her and how he accepted Lil as a package deal with Ariana. He healed something he never broke🥹 They went through so much, grew together, healed each other. Luca is the definition of down bad for his girl, he is the biggest simp🤌🏼
I remember when Marco told him I can’t have a Maserati because Mia said so and he says “like fuck I’m ever letting some chick have that kind of control over me” and in the next chapter he is literally eating his own words😂 I love when a guy thinks no one can brings down the wall he has built around his heart and then they meet this random girl for the first time and boom, the foundation of those walls is crumbling down🤭 and that’s what happened with Luca and Ari🫶🏻🥹

Ariana and Lil’s bond is probably my favourite part of this book❤️ They are always up to something. They are quirky, weird, platonic soulmates, best friends and sisters. They are literally the other half of each other. Their shenanigans are so damn funny, their banter was amazing. They have the most beautiful bond I have ever read about(idc if you find it weird). They need each other to survive and they comes as a package deal. Definition of RIDE AND DIE Duo🫶🏻

The whole family vibe was so heartwarming, they are bunch of softies acting as mafia-ish guy. Loved All the characters so much. Also I can’t wait for Lilith’s book😩 I hope “the one who shall not be named” gets the courage to ask her out🤭

If you are looking for a Mafia-ish vibe but with Wholesome family and friends vibes then this is your book. It is going to fill up your heart completely❤️

📚 Scars & Trust by Miley Howard

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I can feel my soul, my heart, connecting with hers. This girl means something to me."

Ariana Ray Deville - The most strongest female character I've ever read in a book. She's one of the badass female leads. She has her own shares of scars and trauma that's been living with her since her childhood. All the sadness and turmoil in her life gave her Ari her soulmate - Lil. She has her best friend - sister ( Lilith May Deville ) who's always by her side. Their relationship throughout the book was fun to read. Their support and for each other was beautiful. Their shenanigans kept the house alive.

Luca Alexander Deville- The most understanding and the greenest flag to ever exist in any of the books. He is Marco Deville's nephew and Lil's cousin. After seeing Ariana, it seems he fell in love at first sight. One such threat lurking in the shadows made Luca the "babysitter" for the Deville Girls. Living under the same roof got them closer.

This books is the perfect Grumpy ×Sunshine trope. Luca had no idea about what a family is and how a family should be until he met the Deville Family. I love how Marco and Mia had their sweet moments throughout the book. This is the perfect found family book.

I love how understanding Luca is of Ari and Lil's relationship. Lilith do anything for Ariana and Ariana for Lil. They're the perfect sisters. Ariana cam do anything to protect her family and that was shown at the end - the way she protects Luca. I love the side characters as well - Parker, Sully, Ford, Mia, Marco & Anthony.

I'm desperately waiting for the the second book of Deville Daughters Duology.

Scars & Trust is the perfect rom-com book set in a Mafia-ish world. This novel emphasises how the right people can bring out the best in you and accept you and your scars wholeheartedly.

"Scars & Trust" by Miley offers a fresh twist on the mafia romance genre, combining humor, heart, and gripping storytelling. Right from the start, the book captivates with its engaging characters and dynamic relationships, creating a story that's hard to put down.

The heart of the novel lies in the deep connection between Ari and Lil. Their bond transcends the usual friendship, showcasing an unbreakable soulmate-like relationship that's both touching and powerful. Luca's entrance into their lives doesn't disrupt their closeness, instead, he respects and embraces it, adding depth to the trio's interactions. His devotion to Ari is palpable, blending his tough exterior with a surprisingly tender affection.

What makes "Scars & Trust" stand out is its ability to blend intense themes with lighthearted moments. The characters' witty banter and humorous interactions provide a perfect balance to the darker elements of the story. The DeVille family and their associates are a tight-knit group, embodying the concept of found family in a way that's both heartwarming.

The romance between Ari and Luca is beautifully portrayed, filled with moments of vulnerability and strength. Their journey together highlights personal growth and mutual support, making their relationship both believable and inspiring. The supporting characters, like Marco and Mia, add richness to the story, each bringing their unique charm and contributing to the overall narrative.

In summary, "Scars & Trust" is a standout debut that blends humor, romance, emotional depth, and dark but filled with a lot of love and laughter, creating a captivating and memorable reading experience. It's very fast paced and easy yo read!

💅🏻 This particular book had me experience every emotion present in this world and also crave to have a fictional man in my life 🥺 (brb crying in the corner)

💅🏻 Ariana DeVille is an adopted child of a mafia boss and also their best sniper. She and her best friend/partner in crime/sister, Lilith are always together going on with their shenanigans and ofc don't need a bodyguard. That's when an incident happens and Luca DeVille, cousin of Lil gets an assignment to guard the girls. As much Aa the girls hate him for taking away their independence, Ari has developed a soft corner for him.

💅🏻 When threats crawl out of the shadows, Luca swears he’ll do everything in his power to keep Ari safe. Lucky for him, she’s vowed to do the same.

💅🏻 I loved Luca so much I don't have words to explain. He's the perfect man a girl needs. 🥹 He's the purest epitome of "men in love". A perfect grumpy-sunshine you guys 🤌🏻🥹

💅🏻 Ariana being the bold, sassy girl with that sunshiney smile is the best combination ever. She loves Luca just as madly as he does. I loved her strong character and the way she protects him. They both can ki!! or get ki!!ed for each other.

💅🏻 Tbh, I didn't see the climax coming, and it was an absolute banger. This book was a roller coaster ride for sure. Also, the spicy scenes were epic. BTW, this book has a lot of spicy scenes and also deals with some graphic things so I would request to check the trigger warnings before reading.

💅🏻 Lastly, I loved the book and would recommend if you're into dark rom-coms with spice, past trauma, family issues and the tropes mentioned in the first slide.

Thank you to Miley for the opportunity to read the ARC for your debut romance, Scars & Trust. You killed it with this one!

Truth be told, I’m not a huge mafia romance person but I was legit sucked into Scars & Trust from the first page. What I really liked about it was how much less serious it was from other mafia romances. Sure, there were illegal dealings and the occasional murder (and of course Ari’s horrific past) but it was also just really funny. The characters were hilarious (the crazy banter is amazing 🙌🏻) and easy to love even with their moral grayness and I especially adored their relationships with each other.

Ari and Lil are truly each other’s soul mates 👩🏻‍❤️‍👩🏼 and I loved how even once Luca comes into the picture, he doesn’t try to separate them. He understands that they are a package deal and loves Ari enough that he isn’t phased by it, even when he ends up having to share a bed with them both. Luca’s big and gruff and yet he falls at her feet from the first second and becomes a whipped puppy for Ari, meeting her where she is and loving her without trying to change her. 🥰Their entire relationship is just so dang cute and I fell for them and the entire DeVille family (and employees who are like family). I loved seeing their relationships with the main characters, and just ate up all things Marco and Mia because #relationshipgoals. The entire group is really the definition of found family and I can’t wait to learn more about all of them in Lil’s book (they may need to invest in a California King though if there’s gonna be two couples sharing a bed😜).

Well, finally finished this one, took me way too long tbh.

Scars and Trust is the debut novel of the author and while I wanted to keep my review majorly positive, sadly I am not able to do so.

-Firstly, the book needs heavy editing, a lot of places haves typos and grammatical errors that make it difficult to comprehend, also there are sentences that don’t make the same meaning as they’re supposed to.

-Secondly, the length of the book. An 88 chapter, almost 500 pages long book makes sense in a fantasy or in a genre with a lot of plot. Almost all the chapters in the book were mundane and filled with characters doing random day to day stuff.

While being a long and redundant read, the book does very little to pique your interests towards the story, surely the characters have their own quirks; the FMC has ADHD and loves coffee and the MMC growls (like way too much, it’s kinda cringe), but on its own, the story has a very weak potential to keep its readers entertained. For some reason, I felt the characters lacked depth as well, like they had their own personality, but it felt a lot forced than natural and couldn’t add much value to the characters.

This was my first ever ARC (Advanced reader copy) and while I’m glad to receive it, I was majorly disappointed. Overall, there wasn’t per say anything bad about the book or the characters, but there was nothing interesting about them either to read for 500 pages. For people who want less of a plot and more of random happy scenes then this one is for you, otherwise I wouldn’t really recommend reading it.

🪻sᴄᴀʀs & ᴛʀᴜsᴛ is a rom-com set in a mafia-ish background with distressing pasts and other dark elements (such as illegal dealings, and murders).

It's a love story of our FMC Ariana 👩🏼, a sassy, cute daring girl and MMC Luca a grumpy, moody guy with muscle💪🏼and tattoo *uff it's hot 🔥🔥 is just sooo spicy 🌶️🌶️🌶️and cuteee!💕. They complete each other. Their journey to come out of their dreadful past and be with each other, and support each other has my heart ❤️.

* 👉🏼👈🏼Luca is my new book boyfriend! ❤️😚

The author Miley Howard has beautifully written the sister bond. Ari and Lil both are soulmates. The protectiveness and closeness, their understanding , and Their bond is one of my favourite parts of the book. I loved how Luca knew and respected their bond and never came in between them 💗.
Her description of a solid DeVille family (*the employees included) Marco and Mia, justifies the found family troupe! They are just amazing!

🌿Overall I loved the read!❤️🤓 It's completely sucked me in from the very start. It's hilarious, especially the funny banter. At certain points, I was laughing my guts out 🤣🤣 couldn't stop myself.

🫧So, If you love friends to lovers, spiciness and hottt🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️,  found family and mafia vibes. Then don't forget to check it out! A 💯 recommendations🤓
