Mars has been on our sights from the moment we looked up and saw the red planet on our night sky. Percival Lowell is the man the Lowell Observatory has been named after and in his essays on Mars he lays out the scope of the problems, the challenge and the benefits of one day setting foot on the red planet. Presented in an easy-to-read format this is a book of ideas which will inform much of your thinking. Perfect as a work of reference, its easy, digital format makes it ideal to dip in, check facts, find specific subjects and access on the move. Formatted for laptops, smartphones, the iPhone, Blackberry and PDAs.
Lowell's work itself is beyond reviewing as it belongs to such a different era that it is very difficult for me to judge it with a clear mind, so this review is more about the particular paperback edition I've been reading, published by The Perfect Library in 2015, which is completely devoid of illustrations and thus lacking very important material that is referred to across the text. As the copyright has expired, it's better to look for the text online.
