Sometimes love can find you in the most unexpected places…

Alexandria Dunn lives a very quiet, boring life as an IT customer service rep, until she’s startled by a flash of color at her window one day. Almost overnight, she becomes obsessed with birds and bird watching, and when she learns that a foremost avian expert will be leading a bird watching tour at a local wildlife sanctuary, she signs up immediately.

But when Alexandria shows up in the parking lot, the rain is pouring on her and a very colorful companion. Nell Ortiz shows up in a bright yellow rain slicker, and an even brighter smile, and Alexandria is almost immediately smitten.

The avian expert is a no-show, and due to bad weather, everyone else who had signed up for the tour wants a refund. Except Alexandria. And Nell takes her on a tour of the wildlife sanctuary that changes both of their lives…forever.

“Eiderdown” is a sweet, romantic stand-alone novella about the adventures two women experience as they fall in love one fateful afternoon. It is approximately 18,000 words long (several hours of enjoyable reading or so).

Marian Snowe is an author of lesbian romantic fiction. She can often be found talking to trees, examining flower petals with a magnifying glass, or venturing with small steps into the frigid New England ocean. She lives with her vivacious, adventure-loving wife, Ruby Grandin, and two cats. She loves to settle down in a meadow or at her desk by a window (with a good view of the birdfeeder!) to write stories about ladies in love.

Just an adorable short on Kindle unlimited. 45 minutes.

I'm an avid bird lover so the premise interested me and I enjoyed the lovely day spent with the two sweet and interesting protagonists as they get to know each other and form the start of an attraction.

After becoming captivated by a bird outside her office window, a woman begins a new adventure into learning more about nature, the outdoors, and, specifically, birds. The story unfolds as Alexandria Dunn heads to a nature preserve to hear an expert give a talk about a specific type of bird while, at the same time, giving a nature walk to point out said bird (and point out other birds along the way).

Alexandria heads off on her adventure without checking the weather – the nature preserve is about an hour or so away by car drive, and more than halfway there the sky opens up and rain starts hitting her wind shield . . . more in a drizzle than I’m implying. Though eventually heavier rain will appear before she actually gets to her destination. Once there Alexandria finds an empty parking lot, a locked visitor’s center, and pouring rain.

Eventually a woman rides up on a bicycle – unlocks the visitor center, and lets Alexandria in. Even more eventually – a ton more people show up for this birding expedition. Unfortunately, though, the expert can’t show up due to plane issues. So everyone but the two initial first arrivals to the visitor center depart. Nell, the woman who had arrived on the bike and who works there, is about to give Alexandria a refund but Alexandria talks Nell into giving her the tour.

The two go birding.

Everything is from Alexandria’s point of view, though aspects of both characters shine through. Both seem to be great characters, and a warm fuzzy time was had by the reader. Well, I mean specifically me, I don’t mean all readers will react the same as me. That’d be silly to imply.

I rather liked this first glimpse into a new to me author. As in, less vaguely, this is the first story I’ve read by Marian Snowe.

Cute short story about two women who begin to fall in love while watching birds. It's no secret that I will read just about anything if birds are mentioned in the description, and this story has plenty of birds.

Cute

A short and sweet story about a city girl, who has never had the confidence to pursue a serious relationship, develops a love of bird watching, and as a result, meets a very pretty Forestry expert who she falls for almost instantly. A well written, cute, and exceedingly sweet story.

Cute story

This was a really quick read but it was also a cute romance. I thought the budding romance was adorable.

Marian has the gift of taking life and making it work out. She finds the beauty in our humanness and expresses it in wonderful imagery through words... a real gift. Ultimately, books are about offering the reader a respite from the challenges of life or a different view of life's possibilities and Marian does both brilliantly. My work takes me into the darkest parts of the human mind and so I lose myself at the end of the day in books that reflect something different - especially hope and love. That's as much of a spoiler as you get from me. Enjoy!

So adorable

Not going to lie, when the LI was introduced, I put this down. I couldn't with someone who MPDGed that hard. Picking it up again was well worth it, though. It's not that deep, it's a cute little novella (or extended short story) that does a terrific job at warming hearts and causing smiles. As such, it's perfectly what it's meant to be, and a simply delightful way to spend a morning commute.

A missed chance and a friendship later.

Two people meet to take on a hike when their leader is stuck in Dallas. A story about discovery, do they or don't they? Enjoy!

Very Nice

This was such a nice story, I really liked it. I appreciate a short story once in a while, one that I can finish in a few hours.
