There is endless supplemental material for this series, and I’m certainly not interested enough to expand my knowledge beyond the remaining novels, but I thought I’d buzz through this guide I found, putting the movie faces to the—mostly nameless—characters.
I’ll give credit to this particular randomly selected cash-grab rehash of the first half of the movie in its presentation as propaganda from The Capitol a la Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers. (“Would you like to learn more?”) I may want to rewatch the movie now…also Starship Troopers.
This was a letdown, I was seriously expecting so much more from this. Maybe that's my fault...? I was hoping for a lot more insight on Panem, all the districts, the tributes, instead, I was left with nothing. There was NOTHING new or exciting, It added absolutely nothing to the story that I didn't already know. It mainly consists of pictures of the tributes and it says their name, age, district, etc. It doesn't have much of a purpose, really, in my opinion. I guess it'd be great for a “super fan” to have for collection purposes or a refresher for readers. But... this isn't something I'd ever recommend. I found it to be really really boring!!!
If I didn't get a discount because I work in a bookstore, I never would have purchased this.
Essentially it's pretty pictures from the film with some cursory commentary. Anyone that's read the book would know this. Absolutely nothing new.
I would say 1/3 of the book is just pictures of the tributes. Not multiple pictures, but rather the glamour shots for the games, followed up with their name and age. That, to me, screams: let's print off something really quickly to make a few bucks.
While the pictures are pretty, they offer no insight into anything. It's not a behind the scenes type of book, but at least give us something new to the audience.
I would only recommend this to the super fans. As a fan of the Hunger Games (and as someone who is super excited for the film), I don't think it's necessary to own.
Done reading THE HUNGER GAMES: TRIBUTE GUIDE by Emily Seife. I already finished the trilogy last year. I gave 5 stars to Books 1 and 2. I only gave 2 stars to the finale due to its "I don't know where did it go" kind of plot. For this, it is time to re-visit the experience before the prequel arrives in 2020. This guide book makes me remember the journey to the outdoor arena.
Each page of the 128 is filled with colored photos and memorable quotes from the first iconic movie top-billed by the Oscar's Best Actress, Jennifer Lawrence. Pages 23 to 71 are my favorite. The 24 tributes are introduced with each a photo on the left and a brief description on the right. Katniss Everdeen is found on page 68. Her description says District 12 - Mining, Katniss, female, 16, 5'7" and bow & arrow as her choice of weapon.
This is informative, but a lot of the information in this book can be found in the original trilogy. It only displays it in a technical fashion, and some of the statistics either don't match the book or the movie. i.e. Katniss and Peeta's height.
In the book Katniss was supposed to be very small, but they casted a fairly tall actress to portray her. I think the Tribute Guide was trying to stay true to both the movie and the book since they were using the movie images, but it's clear in the film Katniss is taller than Peeta, which didn't match with their height statistics in this guide.
Plus side, I read this in a one hour setting, so it's another book to put toward my goal!
Well, I like it. It gives you a better look on the tributes and the Capitol. There are also some pictures from the movie itself. I'm not going to give it five stars for it's not that good.
I freaked out when I saw this at the bookstore for around 6 dollars. I just had to pick it up! However, I wasn't totally happy with it. I wish that all the tributes names would have been given and what age they were. I did enjoy all the new pictures and the way the book was set up. It is a nice refresher for someone who hasn't read the book in a while. It seems to be told from the capitols point of view and it stops right when Katniss is being sent to the arena. So there is no new information of what it will be like in the games.
There isn't any new information; it is pretty much the same as the trailer. I did enjoy seeing the pictures of what Katniss' bedroom will look like at the capitol and all the pictures of them training. This is a must have for all Hunger Games fans and another book to add to your Hunger Games collection. It was money well spent for 6 dollars. This just made me even more excited for the movie!
Recommendation: I do not recommend this book for readers, who have not read the actual Hunger Games book.
i have, of course, seen the movies, and this is a fun addition to the films. it's written from the viewpoint of the Capitol elites, so it puts everything in that morally-deficient light. some of it was interesting, but the profiles came across as a bit ridiculous at times. at least two of the male tributes were described as being 4 foot 8 inches, which is remarkably short for a 15-16 year old. my 9-year-old brother is taller than 4'8"lol. another example would be the District 12 tributes...i realize that it's fiction, etc., but Josh Hutcherson is not 3 inches taller than Jennifer Lawrence.
I read this book in like 30 minutes. It was really short.
Going into this I thought that it would provide me with tons of insight on the novel such Panem, the districts, the tributes. But I felt it left me with nothing. I felt it just gave information the books already spoke about. This didn't really add much to the trilogy.
If it is a book on the Hunger Games, you can bet I am going to buy it and drool over it. When I received this guide for review, I did not hesitate in jumping right into it. Unfortunately, it was not what I was really expecting.
We get to see wonderful pictures from the upcoming movie, but nothing really new that we haven't seen from released trailers. It is set up in sections from explaining the reason for the Hunger Games all the way to where Katniss enters the arena. It has color photos of each tribute with little facts on each one leaving the reader with no more information than what we started with after reading the series.
While it is great as a refresher book to remind us of the original story we have already read, it wasn't something that really added to the experience. The photos were the only added bonus but not enough to make me really excited. If you are a hardcore fanatic for this series, then add it to your collection. Otherwise, you might want to pass on this one and see if something better comes out.
Every year the Capitol of Panem hosts an event called the Hunger Games where two "tributes" a boy and a girl are drafted from each of the twelve districts to be brought to an arena and fight to the death. Only one person can win. This is to remind the country not to rebel and for entertainment, of course. This year, unfortunately, Katniss's little sister is selected for the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers to take her place. Also selected is Peeta Mellark, the baker's son, who maybe has a teensy tiny crush on Katniss. After they got selected, Katniss and Peeta are whisked away to the Capitol to prepare for the Games and primped for live TV. We meet their support team, which is primarily comprised of Haymitch a former Hunger Games winner and also a drunk, Effie (their wrangler), and China and Portia (their stylists).
I like this book because it has all the suspense and action too in the book that I like, but the thing that I don't really like about the book is that there's a lot of talking and to much background. But I like when it gets right to the action and when I learn from what I read so basically historical books like from World War I and II and more books like that to. I would give this book a 3 out of five stars. If you like a lot of talking and suspense and action then this book is perfect for you and mostly everyone has or is reading it so that's how good the book is
This book is pretty pointless to be honest. Doesn't really bring anything new to the books. A lot of the book consists of pictures of the tributes and it says their name, age, district, etc.
I wouldn't recommend this book really, unless it's for movie merchandise collection purposes. I do have to say though, that someone I know absolutely fell in love with the book, so you might want to check it out.
This book is exactly what you would think from the title. It’s a guide to the Tributes. I was thinking maybe there would be addition content that we didn’t get in the book, but there is not. This would be a good “fan” book for movie-goers and perhaps even a refresher for readers that may not have read the book in a while.
I was hoping that perhaps we would get names for all of the Tributes. I realize that many in the books did not have names, but since this was a TRIBUTE book… I thought it would have been very cool addition!
If you eat and breathe Hunger Games, than this is a book for you. If you’re a fan but of the books more than the movies, just borrow this one from the library.
A pretty rudimentary taste before the movie comes out.
The tribute medallions are cool, as are the few pictures. It's like a super mini summary of HG #1 right up until Katniss emerges out of the tube into the arena.
If you're looking for a super detailed look into HG, it's not here. As for it being a 'tribute guide', it really is just a head shot of all 24, plus age, height, district of origin, and if their name is mentioned in the book, that as well. If not, no name is given.
I could complain about that, but these are brutal books, and the less you know about the 16-18 tributes that die pretty quickly, the better.
Ik ben van plan om naar aanleiding van de prequel, de gehele trilogie opnieuw te lezen + de bijkomende boeken. En dit was er een van. Echt leuk om mij terug in de wereld van THG te wanen. Mooie foto's ook in het boek!
I really enjoyed learning about all the different tributes and what District they were from. I found the page saying what all the districts supplied and did got the Capitol quite interesting! If you liked The World Of The Hunger Games you'll enjoy this!
I think this book was great. It contains a lot of information from the movie. BUT other tribute names were not specified. But other than that its amazing.
UPDATE: 5/26/15 I just finished Mockingjay and I can't stop feeling heartbroken everytime I see ts book. I don't know why :(
It's obviously just a recap of the beginning of the book with pictures from the movie, but I love the layout and everything. I honestly just picked this up again to meet my reading goal for the year, but it was nice to reread it!
It has been a bit since I finished the hunger games series and I was going to watch the movies again, so I thought I might as well review the tributes. I didn’t really know what to rate it as it was just a thing, so eh. It was written from a Capitol journalist’s perspective though, so I got kinda ticked they were acting like it was some celebration. Then lightbulb. “Duh, Erin.”
Bardzo fajna i przyjemna książka. Napisana w stylu jakbyśmy to my byli mieszkańcami Panem.
