George H. W. Bush was a fascinating figure. Growing up in a wealthy family, he was driven by a calling to contribute to the greater good from an early age. His journey into adulthood was defined by valiant service in World War II, which laid the groundwork for a distinguished career in public service. He then navigated through various high-profile positions, from serving as a Congressman to holding pivotal roles as a US ambassador, and he was even made director of the CIA.

Chosen by Ronald Reagan as his running mate in the 1980s, Bush utilized the vice presidency as a springboard to the nation’s highest office. Despite serving only a single term before being defeated by Bill Clinton, his presidency was filled with significant global and domestic milestones. Bush saw America through the waning days of the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. He also led an international coalition that expelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait in the Gulf War in 1991.

Bush was known for his pragmatic approach to governance, his commitment to volunteerism (which he termed “a thousand points of light”), and his dedication to traditional American values. His legacy also includes his political family; his son George W. Bush served as the 43rd president of the United States, and his son Jeb Bush as the governor of Florida. This book explores George H. W. Bush’s life and legacy from beginning to end.

Gave me just enough to pique my curiosity

This was a most informative read. We raised our Daughter (in Texas, I might add) during the Vice Presidency and Presidency of George H. W. Bush. I remember clearly each and very governmental accomplishment and faux pas made during Bush;s tenure as both VP and President. He will be remembered for much of his posts, etc.
This read was a gentle reminder of what went on during the 80’s and 90’s.

President George H. W Bush a Political General

President George H. W. Bush was in a class of his own. He was one of the best presidents of all times. He ejected Saddam Hosein from Kuwait with minimal loss of life to America. The Middle East was no longer the same.
President George H. W. Bush was the symbol of class and a great world leader. He will be remembered as one of the best American Presidents.
The world will always remember him as the man who had ejected Saddam out of Kuwait.

Quick Read

It was an OK read. Having lived through a good portion of the time George Bush was active in politics, I enjoyed the rehash of the events.

As one would expect, most of the events that occurred in his life were superficially covered. Because of this , it seems the author inserted his biases in the story.

The other thing that was somewhat obvious, was a weakness in the grammatical structure that sometimes caused the point being made hard to discern.

Nice work, but

I really enjoy Hourly History books, but they have to be careful. The best ones have enough outline to get the gist, but focus on interesting take aways. They know their limits. This work failed in that. It tried to do it all on a man with an astonishing background. It didn't work well. In addition, it majorly abandoned objectivity, writing in a style that was too familiar and romantic. It was still good, but could be so much better.

NATIONAL LEGACY IN A FAMILY

How George W built up his family, business and career is amazing. As a leader he sallogated his unfortunate boss ,president Reagan so well. Every duty handled well is a growth opportunity.
Good for families and all interested in leadership.
Book content is well balanced to benefit history and the reader.

A man of honour and worthy President

Very enjoyable read on the life of George Bush Snr. The character of the man left a legacy that is sadly lacking in most political leaders today. Well worth a contemplative read.

Concise history

A confuse account of the former presidents life. Seems to only skirt some of the crises and scandals that he endured. A brief but unnecessary summary vid his don,D presidency. Overall a good short bio.

Enlightening

Not a president that I knew a lot about as he seemed to go under the radar. Surprisingly successful in all aspects of his life. He was a good un.

He did a lot with his career. I'm sure, more than what is highlighted here.

I wanted to read a concise biography of President H.W.Bush and this book fit the bill,

We get to know a little about his personal life and revisit some of the key events that took place when he was President - the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf war and also the Soviet Union dissolved while he was President.
