Rate this book

Summer in the Spotlight is the third book in the series, Prince Edward Island Shores, and is Levi's story. He is the youngest of the three brothers and has few words to say, having been traumatized by his father's departure from the family over a decade ago. One person, Kelsey Ahearn has the ability to bring him out of his shell. He has admired her since ninth grade. Kelsey spent a lot of her youth on stage in the local playhouse with her grandmother, who raised her after her parents moved away. After a hurricane damaged the playhouse, she is determined to raise funds to repair it to honor her grandmother's memory and Levi is just as determined to see her succeed. This is a sweet story of love, courage, and family, sprinkled with faith. Ends are tied up that have been loose throughout the series. This has a smile worthy ending and highly recommended.

SUMMER IN THE SPOTLIGHT by Liz Johnson is a fun romantic comedy with a friends-to-romantic couple trope that I enjoyed very much. This uplifting and heartwarming story is sure to steal your heart.

Liz Johnson sure knows how to keep her readers engaged in SUMMER ON THE SPOTLIGHT. After a hurricane hits Prince Edward Island, Kelsey is out of a job and the island is about to lose their theatre. Kelsey is heart broken. She comes up with a plan to renovate the theatre but first she needs to raise some money for the rebuild. Levi jumps right in and offers to help her. Levi and Kelsey are such a strange pair. Levi barely talks and Kelsey never stops talking! Its a hysterical situation. When you learn the reason why Levi is reluctant to talk to others, it will break your heart.

I enjoyed SUMMER IN THE SPOTLIGHT so very much! There is so much that Kelsey has to do to get the theatre up and running. Levi is a wonderful partner for her tasks. Levi is also hiding something and he’s reluctant to start a relationship. This is a slow-burn romance, with two reluctant participants, who become friends long before they become A couple. Levi never stopped showing Kelsey how much she meant to him by what he did. He always had her back, over and over again.

I really liked Kelsey and just adored Levi. Together they made a believable and lovely couple and I was rooting for them throughout the book. I’m ready to pack my things and move to Prince Edward Island after reading this beautiful story! Even though this is the third book in the Prince Edward Island Shores series and I did not read the first two, it stands just fine on its own. I didn’t struggle with the story line at all. The cover is just beautiful isn’t it?

I recommend SUMMER IN THE SPOTLIGHT to anyone who enjoys romance and women’s fiction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and Netgalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

An entertaining contemporary romance!

Levi and Kelsey were both sympathetic characters whose struggles and backstories added to the book. It was nice to see a shy main guy for a change. He and Kelsey were fun together and genuinely cared about each other.

The plot wasn't overly complicated and moved along at a steady speed. A plot thread from the previous books in the series wrapped up in Summer in the Spotlight, but I believe this novel could still be easily read as a standalone. I think Summer in the Spotlight was my favorite in the Prince Edward Island Shores series.

I appreciated that Liz Johnson kept both the romance and the language clean, and I'm looking forward to reading what she writes next. On a more random note, I loved the colorfulness of the cover. The Canadian setting was quite cool as well.

Overall, Summer in the Spotlight was an enjoyable read that I'd recommend to those who love Christian fiction and contemporary romance.

Summer in the Spotlight - Liz Johnson - 4 Stars - Clean, Christian Contemporary Romance

A cute summer romance between Levi and Kelsey, with a little bit of family drama and a goal to restore the local theater that gets damaged as an aftermath of the hurricane that Levi rescues Kelsey in! I really enjoyed this one. My favorite parts were the beginning with Levi rescuing Kelsey from the hurricane aftermath and them all working together to save and rebuild the theater. Levi is rough around the edges and doesn't talk much, but he really grows in this story. Kelsey experienced some good growth as well - specifically surrounding hospitals and her fear of seeing blood. It was just a super cute, clean, small town romance that I enjoyed. While I wish we had more faith in this book, it was overall very sweet and cute.

I think anyone who loves the setting of Prince Edward Island would also really enjoy this. We got to see all the Ross brothers, their significant others and Mama Potts again - that was great. Levi and Kelsey had known each other for a long time but only recently started being close friends as the hurricane they experienced forced them together. I love the small town vibe here with all of our characters together (Eli, Levi, Oliver).

Kelsey was such a great character for me, she really had this drive that she was never going to give up on what she believed in - the theater, her job, her community - everything was so important to her.

I was a bit frustrated with the added character of the weatherman, he was a bit frustrating with what he was doing - he had no loyalty to anyone there - but it made sense for the story line in the end. My need for a happy ending across all sides also made me wish for more of resolution with their father too, but I understand that what happens is actually pretty realistic in many families - no matter how sad it can be and sometimes you have to move on and protect your family at all costs.

Overall, this series has been fun to read and I recommend to anyone who likes a cute, clean romance series that features brothers in each different book. Someone who has a love for theater will really enjoy this story as well! Thank you to Revell and Baker Publishing for providing a copy to honestly read and review.

I'm ready to pack my bags and take a trip to Prince Edward Island. The descriptions in the book make it sound like such an appealing place to be.
I've read other books by this author and though this is the third book in this series and my first read in this series I enjoyed it very much. I have the second book ready to read shortly.
This is such a beautiful story with compassion, redemption, forgiveness and just plain listening to what others said and taking it to heart.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters, seeing a sweet romance develop and receiving the inspirational message in the book. Looking forward to going back and catching up on the series.

Finally in Summer in the Spotlight, we get Levi’s story as he slinked in the background of the first two books of the series.

Levi is the quiet one and Kelsey is full of verbiage, but slowly she coaxed more words out of him than I think he thought was possible.

The whole time I read this all I could think was this was cute, cute, cute. This word was trolling my brain the entire time I read this. It was an easy read and it was exactly what I need to read right now. Very much recommended!

My gratitude to Netgalley and Revell. All opinions expressed are mine.

Aside from being one of the prettiest covers I have seen, Summer in the Spotlight is beautiful on the inside, too. The entire Prince Edward Island Shores series has been so good! Now, if you haven’t read the other books in the series, you should still be able to pick this one up and enjoy it. If you have read books one and two, you can look forward to all three Ross brothers and their significant others having some page time in this novel, as well.

I loved these two main characters! Levi was a man who sacrificed greatly for his family’s good in the previous book. It really showed what type of heart he had. The juxtaposition between Levi’s silence and Kelsey’s chatter at the beginning of the book was so wonderful. It gave me vibes similar to the talkativeness of Anne Shirley and the quietness of her adoptive father, Matthew, in Anne of Green Gables.

The way the friendship and romance developed between Levi and Kelsey as they worked to save the theater was perfect. Levi showed in so many ways how much Kelsey meant to him and I loved that he began to find his voice with Kelsey. These two had great chemistry together and seeing them work through all of the various problems that arose that summer made for a beautiful story and a great wrap up to a series I have truly enjoyed.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This series definitely makes me want to visit PEI!

In this final book of the series, readers get introvert Levi's story. He was shut down by his dad at age 15 and never quite recovered. I loved that Levi is a reader and has a giving spirit.

After a hurricane damages a local theater, Kelsey is left out of job. She and Levi work together to create a plan to save the theater which makes such a huge difference for the town.

My gratitude to publisher Revell for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Wow. I ended up loving this book so much. It’s my favorite out of the series. It was slower to start with but it matches the characters personalities and I loved the journey it took me on while reading. There were deeper aspects that touched me deeply! Things I’ve dealt with emotionally in my own life and I think Liz did amazing portraying how we can do hard things even when it scares us. Because if it’s done out of love then it’s worth it. 🩷

“We do hard things for the people we love.” “Speak life. Each person had the power to speak life or death.”

I adored this book! Summer in the Spotlight is the first full length novel I’ve read by Liz Johnson and won’t be my last. I’ve always loved Prince Edward Island because of its association with Anne of Green Gables. So, when I learned of this sweet romance set there, I jumped at the chance to read it. I didn’t realize it was the third book in the series, but that didn’t stop me from thoroughly enjoying it. I easily dove right in and loved every minute of it. It’s a slow burn, second chance, gentle romance with endearing characters and a touch of faith that’ll tug on your heartstrings.

Kelsey Ahern has a fear of blood, a love of theater, and a burning desire to honor her grandmother’s legacy. When damage from a hurricane destroys the community theater she grew up performing in and her teaching job, she teams up with the quiet, handsome high school facilities director whom she’s always secretly admired to put on a benefit show to rebuild the theater.

Levi Ross learned at a young age to keep his mouth shut. Still reeling from when his abusive father left, he’s stayed firmly in his shell, admiring Kelsey from afar for years, and only speaking when necessary. Hes gorgeously handsome, highly intelligent, creative, and handy in any kind of building project or emergency. When he comes to Kelsey’s aid during the hurricane, his world gets turned upside down when he agrees to help her with the show and finally gets the chance to develop a relationship with the outgoing Kelsey. But, when a slick weatherman comes to town and the show they’ve been preparing is in danger, he has to choose whether to give into fear or speak up.

I loved Kelsey and Levi! Both had fears and past hurts holding them back. I loved the way they helped each other work through those tough things. Levi is such a thoughtful, empathetic man. I enjoyed his mentoring a young boy named Dustin, his steady hand in an emergency, and the way he gives Kelsey the wings to fly. He’s one of those quiet, unsung, wounded heroes you just need to hug. I loved Kelsey too. She’s the perfect match for Levi and helps him get out of his shell. I loved her energy, enthusiasm, and sweet personality. Their first kiss was amazing!

Loved the beautiful, slow burn romance, the fun side characters like the town’s lovable busybody, and the whole premise of the story. I quickly fell in love with the town and now can’t wait to go back and pick up the previous books. There’s a bit of suspense towards the end when several things collide to threaten the show. The ending is fantastic and I especially enjoyed the epilogue.

Highly recommend the audiobook version! The narrator is Canadian and I loved hearing that subtle Canadian accent. She voices both Levi and Kelsey perfectly along with all the other characters. She really made this book come alive and I enjoyed her performance.

If you enjoy contemporary romance with a touch of faith, I highly recommend this book. Though part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are completely my own and voluntarily given. 4 1/2 raised to 5.

This is the third book of the Prince Edward Island Shores series and it's a wonderful addition to the series. Lighthouses are appealing to me, so I was immediately drawn to the beautiful cover but the story inside is what made this book so special! Author Liz Johnson gives readers one of the best boyfriends/heroes ever! Levi Ross is a man of few words so this makes what he says even more special. His romance with Kelsey Ahern is both sweet and heartwarming, along with their joint efforts to save the Victorian Playhouse. These two are meant to be together, if...they can both work through some personal stumbling blocks!

Summer in the Spotlight is the perfect way to wrap up this series and readers of the other two books will enjoy a reunion with the other two Ross brothers. I recommend this book to all who enjoy contemporary Christian romance.

Summer in the Spotlight is the third book in the Prince Edward Island Shores series. I have been anxious to read this third and final book to the series by Liz Johnson. If you haven't read the other books, Summer in the Spotlight could still be enjoyable but it would be best read after the other books in the series.

Levi Ross is the youngest of the Ross brothers. He works as a custodian at the high school where he doesn't have to say much. Kelsey Ahern works as the drama teacher in the high school. After a hurricane damages the school and the theater where the drama department performs, Kelsey loses her job as budgets become strained. In an effort to save both her job and the beloved damaged theater where both she and her grandmother performed through the years, Kelsey directs the town in a benefit performance to restore the theater. Levi is recruited to help with the set and the props.

I enjoyed Summer in the Spotlight. My heart went out to Levi as I learned the real reason for his reticence to speak to others. Honestly, that revelation brought tears to my eyes. I also felt for Kelsey as she struggled with pain from her family issues and I could relate to those issues too. I think a lot of readers could relate to some of these family issues in some way as many of us come from imperfect families. I truly appreciate that Johnson creates characters that have realistic struggles. I did feel a bit of compassion for Levi's dad as I learned why he is the way he is today in the book but I still didn't find him very likeable. As in other books in the series, there are themes of love, forgiveness and redemption in this book. There are also times characters in this book demonstrated having good boundaries in relationships, which is important too. At the same time, I so enjoyed the slow-build romance between Levi and Kelsey. Some of the scenes with them were especially heartwarming to me as they brought out the best in each other. It was also fun to continue to follow characters from the first two books in the series. I found Summer in the Spotlight to be a satisfying conclusion to the series.

The thunderous voice of a shy brother leaves me speechless with admiration for not only this book, but the entire Prince Edward Island Shores series. Each book reveals how one bad father can cast three separate shadows on each son differently, yet in the end love has the capability to overcome any darkness.

So many favorite quotes from this book, but I just thought this one was hilarious.

Summer in the Spotlight is the final book in Johnson's "Prince Edward Island Shores" series and a book I was eagerly anticipating! The story starts out pretty good and I found it very easy to read.

The characters were nice, although I struggled at first with Levi. It was difficult for me to connect to him when he didn't say much and others would try to interpret what he meant from his grunts/shrugs/etc. It got better as I read, though, and I liked him in the end. The romance was cute and I liked the ending.

All in all, Summer in the Spotlight was a cute read and I think fans of the series and/or contemporary romance will enjoy it. I did find the romance was a little intense at times, so just wanted to mention that.

When a hurricane comes through PEI wreaking havoc on the island and Kelsey Ahern's plans, she finds herself without a job. But Kelsey is determined to restore the old Victoria Playhouse where she grew up performing alongside her grandmother. But she finds help and an ally in one of the most unlikely sources, the quiet janitor Levi Ross.

I loved how Kelsey just lit up doing what she loved, her hardworking enthusiasm for theater on PEI, as well as her saintly patience with a certain difficult actor. Levi is probably my favorite of the Ross brothers, he has a quiet strength, and isn't a man of many words, but behind his unassuming exterior he hides a heart of gold, with an appreciation for literature. One of my favorite parts of this books was his friendship with Dustin, and how he encourages and instill confidence in the young man.

A heartwarming small town romance, with compelling characters, strong faith, and a picturesque setting. I have a special place in my heart for The Importance of Being Earnest, so I thought it was so awesome that it was featured in this book. I loved Kelsey and Levi together, as well as catching up with the rest of the family in this satisfying conclusion to a fantastic series!

I loved returning to Prince Edward Island and the ongoing saga of the Ross family. In this book, we discover the romance between Levi Ross and Kelsey Ahern. Levi is a unique hero. He does not speak much but gets his jobs done and gets his message across. In this story, we find out why he is so reluctant to speak. Kelsey is a high school drama teacher and she has grand dreams when a bad storm damages the Victoria Theater. She plans to produce a benefit play to pay for repairs so the theater can re open,. It is vital to the local economy of the small town. The program is not without difficulties but lots of people pitch in, especially Levi.
The plot was interesting and the characters relatable. The hero is the strong, silent type and the heroine is very determined. Kelsey has a heart for the community. The faith thread is slight but solid and comes out in the actions of the characters.
This can be read as a stand-alone but reading the whole series in order will enrich your reading experience.

Levi Ross intrigued me from book one. It was clear this younger brother had strength behind his silence and in book two readers got a glimpse of his dreams and hopes. Now in his one book we could see even more of this silent gentleman, including his reasons for choosing not to talk unless required.

Talkative Kelsey with her tendency to faint at the sight of blood and who is working through her own fears and regrets was a great friend to Levi.

The mystery around the Ross father was also concluded in this series.

I loved this series about the Ross family and sad to bid them farewell.

I loved this book! While I haven’t read the first one in the series yet, I’m quite confident this is my favorite in the series. I really liked Levi’s character when I read The Last Way Home so I was really excited to read his story! I was in the perfect mood for this book and enjoyed every minute of it!☺️

First of all, I absolutely loved both of our main characters from the start! Kelsey was such a kindhearted and fun heroine. I loved her sunshiny personality, a quality that made her perfect for Levi.💗
And I LOVED Levi so much! He was pretty much impossible not to love. He had such a good heart and I just wanted to give him a big hug! I loved watching him grow in this book. He was wonderful!
The romance was so, so sweet! I adored Kelsey and Levi together from the very first chapter. The fact that Levi had a crush on her since ninth grade kind of melted my heart.🥺💗 They were just precious!
I also love that they became good friends before they began a serious relationship. I loved watching them grow closer as friends and then as more.

I really enjoyed the plot and setting too! It was fun having it centered around a theater and I loved that it was set in P.E.I.! As a huge fan of Anne of Green Gables, I love that Liz Johnson has set many of her books there!

I really enjoyed seeing some familiar characters again. I loved the family dynamics in this book too! It was definitely a highlight for me!

The faith was very subtle and was mostly only present towards the end. While I wish there had been more faith content present, I did enjoy the few times it was mentioned.

This book was a sweet, clean contemporary romance. There was no language. There was one or two more detailed kisses but nothing other than that.

In conclusion, I loved Summer in the Spotlight! It was the perfect end of summer read.🥰
If you love books that include
•a quiet, cinnamon roll hero and a talkative, sunshine heroine/ opposites attract
•he fell first
•drama, acting, and theater
•Prince Edward Island setting
•the perfect summer vibes
I think you will love this book!

Look at me having read 3 books within the first week of jan. and it's not been a week even (it has to stay at three I really have too much work to do to be reading more books)

I LOVED THIS BOOK. favourite out of the trilogy. ALso i LOVED LEVI. such a green flag. argh. also I loved the deep stuff and convos. (basically repeating myself for all three reviews) and the way faith was subtly weaved in - loved how it was done and loved the message of speaking life. and this family is so found family (though half of them are like legit biological family) and I love them and their bond fskdfdsfsd. Anyways also MEG AND OLIVERRRR and violet and Mama they're so argh I love them. okay anyways i'm done I love this book. also DUSTY he was like a lil kid in need of icecream anyways I love the characters in this series

only losing one star coz smth was off? idk. the plot felt longgg and draggy and I didn't like that. same with the other books in this trilogy tbh

Although this is the third and final book in the series, it is the first book that I have read by this author, so I can recommend it as a standalone. The book centers around a hurricane that destroys the local playhouse and the woman who is determined to rebuild it in order to honor her grandmother. Kelsey has a lot to say about the importance of the arts and enlists the help of mostly silent and thoughtful Levi to do a fundraiser to rebuild. There is another man in the picture who is covering the aftermath of the hurricane for his weather channel, but he is a secondary character who does try to charm Kelsey, but she is too focused on her goal of establishing a new playhouse and doesn’t really notice Levi or the weatherman who wants to pursue her. This is a clean contemporary romance with all the good feels of a small town and people who pitch in to help each other. I loved the characters, the intriguing plot and the sweet, blossoming romance. This book was delightfully readable and a warm romance with some laugh out loud moments between the two main characters who are so totally different from each other. There was a little intrigue, a lot of characterization and plenty to love about this book that was heartfelt and showed the author’s love for the Prince Edward Island setting.

This was a really sweet book and a great conclusion to this series. Anne of Green Gables started my interest in PEI but Liz Johnson's books have stoked the flames!

My heart just went out to Levi. I wanted to wrap him up in a hug! I mean, Kelsey did that plenty, but I wanted to love on him as though he was a little boy, because really, he was. He had never gotten over some major hurt from his childhood and it was smothering him.

One of my favorite things from this book was Levi and Dustin. It just showcased Levi's heart of gold. Even though he hardly speaks, Levi is a defender and supporter and it was shown over and over in how he came through for Dustin and Kelsey, and even before, with what he did for Eli.

Kelsey... I also hurt for Kelsey. Both Levi and Kelsey were wounded by people who should have loved them and their actions as adults comes out of that unhealed hurt. What is interesting is that the other people who stepped in for them in their younger years didn't fix the problem. I liked how they helped each other heal.

I finished the book with a contended sigh. This is the perfect summer read.

Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of the book. All opinions are my own and a favorable review was not required.

Oh. My. Gosh. 🥰🥰🥰🥰 this book was everything!

The sweet preciousness of Levi and of Levi and Kelsey together! 🥰 The kiss! 😍😍😍😍 The way in which they talk to each other and how they listen and understand each other even when words aren’t spoken, oh my! 🥰 *happy sighs for days* 🥰🥰🥰🥰

I cannot handle how much I loved this book and both Levi and Kelsey’s characters! And getting all the Ross brothers (and their girls) was just so wonderful! What a fabulous ending to a wonderful series! 💕 this whole series is going to get reread A LOT!

This book hit me in so many different ways, but wow I relate to Levi so so much. I’m not a huge talker. I’m pretty quiet and reserved around most people and often times have trouble expressing what’s going on in my head, so usually opt to stay silent instead. But hearing Levi’s inner monologue had me nodding along with so many things, how he viewed some conversations or his own words or lack of words. *sigh* I totally get it Levi. And I’m so so grateful to Liz Johnson for writing this book (and series) and gifting us with these characters who are so relatable. I truly truly love this series! 💕

This is the perfect ending to the Ross brothers’ story! I fell in love with quiet Levi who loves literature and can quote Oscar Wilde plays from memory. He was a wonderful character to watch throughout the series. I was excited to see his thought process in his chapters. Kelsey was a great surprise as I understand her passion for theatre. I was a theatre kid so it touched my heart as she organized a way to save the local theatre. This was all great but the romance was even better. I swooned at a certain Oscar Wilde scene and I couldn’t put it down. I definitely need to reread The Importance of Being Ernest because of all the references.

I received an arc via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

This was a really sweet read about a man who’s held onto his high school crush for ten years and the woman who fights to overcome trial after trial. Both MCs were likable and a couple I root for from the very beginning. It was a slow start, and the faith content was minimal, I think they prayed once. In fact, I personally wouldn’t call this a Christian Romance but a sweet romance showcasing Christian characters. The story itself was told very well and I loved how both MCs came out of their shells in unique ways and brought out the best in each other. There were a few sweet kisses so it was kept squeaky clean.

I feel really bad about this one because I really like this author! Honestly, this is one of those situations where it’s not the books fault, but mine.
I just can’t get into this one. I don’t love Levi unfortunately. His lack of communication was frustrating to me. I also didn’t like the weather guy. At all😅 I’m not really into plays or the theatre either, so I’ve decided to put this one down. I did like the other two books in this series though, and am excited to read other books by Liz!🥰

With Summer in the Spotlight, Liz Johnson concludes a series armchair journey to Prince Edward Island, Canada, with a sweet and romantic story of pining and love. It brings the story world full circle in many ways, and includes a larger arc of the brothers’ shared experiences of an event that had lasting impact in their adolescence.

From the (natural) disaster meet-cute for the readers in chapter 1, the spark between Levi and Kelsey is clear — and so are the foundations of their personalities, with Levi and his caring tenderness and Kelsey and her bubbly drama. This slow burn romance delves into friendship and understanding as they both find a camaraderie in working toward the personal and community goal of saving the local drama offerings. I really like how Levi’s perspective highlights his good-guy hero status and the joys to be found in small town dreams.

The sense of community and family Johnson establishes in her novels is heartwarming and endearing, and the cast of this one fit right into her idyllic and grounded story world. Life’s problems, pains, and sacrifices aren’t glossed over, but they’re handled with wisdom and lessons for Levi and Kelsey, especially relating to overcoming and realizing truths about family and love. Levi’s brothers fittingly play a role in this story, and it is wonderful to see them all together with a new sense of connection rooted in groundwork of the previous novels.

I know it’s standard procedure to swoon over heroes of novels (alongside the lovely heroines) as potential “book boyfriends”, but I would like to make an argument here for Levi to be my “book best friend”. I think he’s romantically perfectly matched with Kelsey, of course. I just see a lot intellectually in common with Levi (even though he’s a fictional character): he’s bookish, a gentleman, the youngest of his siblings, fiercely protective of those he loves, always learning, has a soft spot for students (especially Dusty! I loved his character!), and comfortable with his small town dreams. Anyone who knows me knows that’s pretty close to my own personality. So, I think we’d be great friends!
