'The best dinosaur adventure since Jurassic Park! Recommended for all ages.'
To save the future, they must escape the past.
On the cusp of his ninth birthday, Rapscallion wants nothing more than to see the dinosaurs at the time base where his uncle works. They are breaking the rules, but for a sneaky trip back to the Cretaceous the risk is worth it, it’s going to be incredible.
But they are not the only ones looking to abuse the technology.
Rival firms want it badly enough to kill … badly enough to send a team back to steal it, and when that all goes horribly wrong, the trip of a lifetime becomes a fight for survival, and no one even knows Rapscallion and his dad are there.
But lost in time, their unexpected presence may just have a profound effect on the future. All is not as it seems. The man behind the time portal technology has been lying to the world and his secrets are more dangerous than anyone knows. In an explosive race to escape the Cretaceous, the terrifying carnivores may be the least of their worries.
Get ready for full throttle mayhem sixty-five million years in the past!
Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
For an eight year old, this is a super good story. Yes, I realize that dad helped, but Hunter came up with the idea of it and actually typed at least 10 percent on his own, so I am impressed. I think it's billed as a children's book, but I sure did enjoy it, and I am definitely not a child. It's definitely worth reading.
I liked this story. The idea of time travel to dino age is not novel, but using it to score billions in gems and gold is a nice twist. With the exception of the two kids that behaved much older than eight year olds with the manners of three year olds, the characters felt real.
This book, like many others I've read with dinosaurs as key figures, uses a lot of dinosaurs with names not recognized by most lay people. I don't know if the authors think readers prefer to have no clue what the dinosaurs were supposedly like, if they think people will assume they are so much more informed, or it's that we readers are bored of the same old dinos, but I find it aggravating. I like to have somewhat clear mental pictures of creatures when they are in books I read. I read on a Kindle so I can look them up as I go along, which I do, which in turn takes me away from the book.
All the above I can deal with. But this book has done something none of the thousands of books I've read over the course of 60 years has accomplished. It made me absolutely hate the name of a main character. At first I thought it was a nickname. Nope. His parents picked it because no one else the boy would ever meet would have that same name. In the real world I would find it cruel. In this book it is a burr under my saddle. This will sound petty, but I don't think I'll continue on with the series. That name.
Some will wonder about the four rating when I've found elements of it that irked the hell out of me. It is because the book is well written and well thought out. My issues should have no bearing on other readers. But I had to give my honest review.
Brilliant writing . A super interesting read. Time Machine back to the Jurassic era to capture dinosaurs for meat… A notoriously wealthy businessman keeps the technology to himself to cater for his business Meat Co. But there’s a new fossil he’s interested in from those years ago and when a portal breaks , trapping scientists visitors and those that are visiting without permission in the past living and surviving not only the danger from carnivores but scrupulous Army sent to steal from Meat Co. too . Lots going on , tension and suspense and learning a good deal about dinosaurs too. Brilliant writing , excellent descriptions make it feel like you’re right there with the nearly nine year old and his brave dad . I was forwarded the book and I’m leaving my review voluntarily in my own words
What a great story ! Father and son authors have teamed up to write this awesome adventure about traveling 65 million years back into the Cretaceous Age to see dinosaurs. Ramscallion's uncle works for a secret time travel company and arranges a surprise birthday present to visit the real dinosaurs.
The 2-hour trip turns into a very interesting birthday for a 9 year-old and his dad. I could not put it down.It was full of Action And a very good read. There were a lot of tense Moments And some fun moments as well.
This was pretty decent. Kinda Jurassic park like story. Dad and kid sneak into an off limits facility that takes you back in time to a Jurassic World with the help of an uncle who works there. As usual trouble ensues and they must run for their lives. Most of the trouble is man made ( no surprise) and the group must outwit the greedy mercenary’s to make it back to the current time. Starts a little slow but picks up and keeps you reading once they hit the past.
I enjoyed this book so much. It keeps you on the edge of your seat almost from the first page. I think its comparable to Jurassic Park possibly more tense. Steve Higgs has become one of my favorite authors and this one is especially great as it's written with his son Hunter. If you love dinosaurs and lots of action, this is the book for you. I highly recommend it. Can't wait to read the next one in the series!
This was a fun time travel romp by the father and son team of Steve and Hunter Higgs. Great for kids through adults, this subject matter (time travel to see dinosaurs, with some VERY interesting twists) is sure to please. Highly recommend-love the main characters, father and son Hudson and Rapscallion Ghirardelli!!
I love the mysteries by Steve Higgs and like sci-fi so thought this sounded fun. actually got into it and while completely unbelievable was such fun that I read it in 5 days. I love that he wrote it with his son and that I can recommend it to anyone since it doesn't have bad language, sexual scenes, or inappropriate content.
Very intriguing story! A wonderful introduction to this series. Kept me completely absorbed in the story from start to finish. I love all things dinosaurs and this one is very well written. I look forward to finding out how this tale moves forward. Welcome to the world of writing young Hunter!
Love it! Can hardly wait for more. Glad father and son worked together to create this great series. Time travel, dinosaurs! Baby triceratops and vengeful T-Rex? Great details. Loved dinosaurs for over sixty years and now this delightful book. Hope to see the next soon. Highly recommend!
Steve and Hunter, his 8 years old son, wrote a very believable story that was filled with suspense and caring and great enthusiasm about dinosaurs. I pray that they write more together. I look forward to reading more from them.
Time travel, dinosaurs, bad guys, good guys. Fast paced adventure for all ages! Written by an amazing father and son author team. Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thought this would be a YA read but really enjoyed i
Well thought out plot and realistic characters and a few other surprises. I learned a little more about dinosaurs, too. A very good adventure story for everyone. Looking forward to the next book!
I love the fact that Steve co-wrote this story with his son. I would be curious to know if he explained to HIS son why Horny wasn't a great name for a baby triceratops 😂. Can't wait to read the next book!
For a first-time author, let alone a young one, a believable tale of greed and violence is portrayed. Steve, you should be very proud of your son and his briimaginaation!
I believe that Hunter is following in his Father’s footsteps. The story is interesting and the creatures that lived millions of years ago were carefully described. The action parts made me want to run away also. I loved this book and have already pre-ordered Book 2.
Quite a departure from Steve's usual style, but Hunter kept it simple and easy to follow. I look forward to hearing of the consequences of that first operation, and I kinda want to know if anyone managed to snag a bar or two of that gold...
What a great achievement for a young boy, to enlist his father to help write a book that would captivate readers of all ages. Brilliant storyline, amazing action that makes it a must read.
Hunter is following his father's steps and is doing great! We are not Meat is an interesting and engaging story that is easy to read and entertaining. I thank the authors for this ARC.
Something completely different not a long read but believable characters and a not too outrageous plot I am looking forward to the next installments of this story
Hudson Gilbert with help from his brother plans to take his son on a birthday adventure to the Cretaceous to see dinosaurs. They get more than they bargained for.
This was a great read. It was full of information about dinosaurs and pre earth time! Steve and Hunter are a great team and I hope to read more from them in the future!
