Quick and easy read. DNF the series though… Not super intrigued and so many other series I am more excited about at the moment. May just put a pause on this one for now. :-)
This romantic comedy starts with a bride looking into a mirror on her wedding day a few minutes before the wedding begins. As in so many other romance novels, Kate is not sure, if she really should go through with the wedding, because there are enough reasons to run.
The difference to some other novels is, she actually walks into the church, meets her husband to be and the priest at the altar. The marriage procedure is just going on as planned.
But then suddenly everything moves very fast into the other direction, because the bride finally decides to bail. And she does it in her own spectacular way.
Fortunately at the same time there is also John sitting outside the church in his car, still thinking about his own motivation why he decided to be there and if he really should step out of his car. As it turns out to be, that decision is made for him, and he will be the designated get-away driver.
From this point on the story develops a bit predictable. There are the usual misunderstandings and struggles, but also some personal fears and uncertainties each of them has to overcome and all of that could have been easily avoided, when only they both could have decided to trust and open up to each other. Additionally Kate also has to learn, that running away is not always the best solution.
But without all that complications there would have been no story to tell and we avid romance readers all know, these are some of the most preferred and needed patterns in romance novels.
I enjoyed reading the story, but the comedy parts were something I had to adjust to. Certainly there are some cultural differences in the understanding of humor (think about the famous British sense of humor which ist very different to others), and therefore take my opinion with a „good pinch of salt“.According to my personal feeling the comedy aspects of the novel are sometimes bit over the top and in some situations even not something to laugh about, for example the behavior of the little girl, Clara, which often is more than a bit disrespectful.
All in all this was an entertaining read, and one of the great aspects of this novel are the descriptions of the main characters and their background, informations the reader learns about during the story. These make it clear, why John and especially Kate sometimes behaved as they did.

Kate finds herself on her wedding day, questioning herself and her decision making. Kate is engaged to Prince Phillip, who bears an Evil Mother, and this wedding is nothing short of a disaster. She didn’t pick out any of the things she would have liked, and her friends tell her… Hey, how is the time to split! As Kate questions herself and how she got here… a very short dating stint with the Prince… she pictures herself as a little girl and all of a sudden Katie-bug is there with advice. ( this little girl and inner dialogue continues on in the novel, and I have to say it did not work for me, at all. I found it annoying after I was 25% in the book and wanted to gloss over it. )
Kate becomes a runaway bride, as she bails at the alter. John, her friend and a delivery man, so happens to be outside and saves the day. But John is hiding some secrets of his own, and for now Kate can’t know about them. John seemed a little desperate at times, really wanting Kate to notice how in love he’s been with her. To me, it just didn’t work as well as I would have hoped. Sometimes the miscommunication saga gets hit too often, and I wanted to shake the characters and just say “SAY IT ALREADY!”
This is a friends into lovers romance trope, so if this type of slow burn, with communication issues, is your thing, then dive in for the drama. Their chemistry was just alright to me, their friendship didn’t seem too deep.
Prince Phillip is a side character, and you don’t really hear too much about him; it’s mostly from her thoughts and views. I didn’t feel any connection to him or his story line.
This was a quick binge romance novel, nothing too spicy, nothing too deep. If you need a pick me up, this could be up your alley!

📷 Standing at the altar on the day of her wedding, Kate realises that the Prince she was marrying did not know her at all. And neither did she know him. In the stuffy white wedding dress she loathes and the heels she despises, Kate becomes a runaway bride. To her rescue comes a getaway car driven by John. Reliable, kind, funny and unavailable delivery man turned friend whom Kate had a little crush on before realising that he has a girlfriend. Little does Kate know that one of John's many secrets is that he's always been in love with her.
📷 This was a funny and adorable read that reminded me of hallmark movies! The writing was really good and engaging. This is a romantic comedy that has lighthearted drama, humour and makes you feel relaxed! The characters were lovable and relatable; once you read, you know that they have depth and substance. I just wish their story was longer. I wish we learnt more about their past, especially Kate's as there were so many snippets in the book that revealed more to her character. 217 pages was not enough! It was obvious the main characters have chemistry but it felt unexplored and while I love a good slow burn, their story didn't have the spice I was expecting. Their story and their individual pasts could have definitely been more detailed.

This book was a bit of a slog. Friends to lovers, which if I am honest is a hard trope for me to love. There always has to be a reason to keep them apart and too often it is because they just won’t have a conversation. Which in turn makes me think, probably they should not date or wow their relationship is not going to last if they can’t communicate. And don’t get me started on the third act breakup in a friends to lovers. And this book has all that. In this one, millionaire John is love with Kate, but she is marrying a prince. Then because the prince is terrible and mean or at least his pushy mother is ( one questions why she even liked him), she is a runaway bride. (She needs a push from het inner child that she speaks to entirely too much for my taste) anyway John drives her from the wedding. ( There is lots of pining). He is set to help her find her right man. Oh And hide that he is a millionaire because she hates rich people because the mean prince. And it is kinda blah blah blahed after that. Yeah, not my cuppa tea. I tried but it just fell into to too many ridiculous obstacles to get me in the feels. (I read an ARC)
I've never read a book by Cassidy before and I'm so glad I decided to read this one, it's a laugh put loud story with so many twist and turns you don't want to put it down. Kate is supposed to be marrying her prince. Yes a real Prince. But after so much tooing and froing and talking to her younger self she knew she was doing the wrong thing. So stood at the alter she turns and says "I can't marry you" and runs back down the aisle and out of the church. John could believe he'd actually turned up to watch the woman he loved marry someone else. But here he was, but waiting that Kate running to his truck, was she really leaving. He decided there and then he'd take her wherever so wanted and do whatever to make sure she was ok. The only problem was he has a secret that could change everything. Kate knew this was the right thing but the problem was she was always running. I loved everything about the book the group of Kate's friends where so close and always there for each other. I really hope there will be books for each of them. Plus I think everyone needs a neighbour like Mrs Peabody.
Cute runaway bride/best friends to lovers tale. I enjoyed this story of curvy Kate and her ‘delivery guy’, John. The story has a great start as Kate is marrying her European prince fiancee; as they are in front of the priest, she has a moment of clarity that this is not what she wants and runs! I really liked that through most of the story, she has ‘conversations’ with her younger self – and is guided by her feedback. I loved that John has already fallen first for the young woman he has been friends with for several years but hasn’t shared the true facts about his background (billionaire CEO of his family company) leaving Kate in the dark. An enjoyable romantic read with the promise of more stories to come as we are introduced to her engaging friends during this book.
He’s the delivery guy — and that’s all she knows She is about to get married, and realizes it a BIG mistake. So she runs away . . . .and is so surprised when the delivery guy is there and willing to help her!! But now what? The guy she was about to marry — well his mother did not like her and he always took her side!!! But the delivery guy - is always on her side! THIS IS A REALLY GOOD LOVE STORY! LOVED IT. What a cute and funny book. Loved how Katie-bug would show up and give Kate advice. Also thought Clara was a hoot. John and Kate were great main characters. He was always around to save her, but he had a secret that he was afraid to tell her. Not an awfully long book by any means. But, it will capture your attention from the beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
Kate is a runaway bride and John just happens to be outside the church and he was the get-away driver. He loved Kate for so long. He has a secret that Kate doesn't know of. Will they get their happy ever after is she finds out what he is hiding. A great story and a must read.
