PROLOGUE

It was always the child: hold me.
It was always the pillow, the palm.
Between words, what language I tried to learn.
Save me one last time: the room damp,
the carpet matted, the walls stained.
This dwelling now familiar.
It was only another story of reflection:
that body on the bench, that body on the dock;
that body barely touched this body.
