Jan Freeman is a poet and the founder and former director of Paris Press (1995–2018), which is now an imprint of Wesleyan University Press. She is the recipient of a 2020–2022 Associateship at the Five College Women’s Studies Research Center in Amherst, Massachusetts.
It was always the child: hold me. It was always the pillow, the palm. Between words, what language I tried to learn. Save me one last time: the room damp, the carpet matted, the walls stained. This dwelling now familiar. It was only another story of reflection: that body on the bench, that body on the dock; that body barely touched this body.
