Saleem's life on the Caribbean island of Trinidad bears little resemblance to the advertisements in the tourist brochures. His personal odyssey takes him from humble beginnings in a tiny wooden shack ruled by a drunken, abusive father to his first job in the financial sector after a youth spent striving to achieve the advantages that had been lacking in his childhood. He shares an office with Sabrina, an older, attractive married woman who is intrigued by the handsome young Indian. As the boundaries of their friendship blur and crumble, the naive and idealistic Saleem becomes embroiled in a web of temptation, lust and treachery. When a crime is committed, Saleem's involvement could cost him his innocence - and his life.
