Roisin (pronounced Ro-sheen) is a writer, traveler, and proud book nerd. She believes there's nothing better than an icy drink, a killer music playlist, and a cozy place to snuggle up with a good book. You'll find her writing about broken people forming trauma bonds, and becoming family. Suspense/Thrillers were her first love, but Why Choose has become her favorite.

I think this book may not be for me, and it may come more to personal taste. So take that with this review. Spoilers.

I was bored. A bunch of teenagers all angry with each other with any of the story for the entire book. Just not for me.

The main character is 19 and I keep repeating that in my head when I want to roll my eyes at the author's attempt to make her eclectic and interesting in the most childish versions of it. She dyes her hair and draws on herself as a form of self expression, but take her seriously because she's such a grown up and has been for such a long time. She then goes and makes incredibly immature decisions and her inner monologue is just about how serious she is and how ridiculous she finds everyone else around her.
She is also incredibly shallow and lets everyone in her life fall into "sleeping with or will sleep with" or beneath her. She treats her family like shit and is surprised her uncle would call her out for her attitude? Are we supposed to side with her when he tells her to stop criticizing him at every turn when he did in fact take her in when her mother died? Or did we forget she didn't have to move to Montana and just COMPLAINS THE ENTIRE TIME.
How does her family even like being around her. She treats her cousin as an idiot and a burden then turns around confused they don't feel closer to her. But again, I keep trying to remember she is 19 and all of these annoying traits are a 19 year olds way of thinking. It just made me beg in my head for a character POV change even though those were essentially pointless.

Why are they pointless you ask? None of these guys felt that different in their POV. We jump povs and try to have everyone get air time, but all of them fall short. We don't get insight into any personalities and most if not all conversations are surface level and vapid. They end up more heated by jealousy than the real problems of people being dead and accidents in their lives.

And Jesus. That. We have bits and pieces of a plot arising, you can almost taste the mystery in the air, but the way it's presented is choppy. We have blatantly obvious shouts of hints and plot then a mystery moment that feels about as subtle as being hit by a train. "Boring convo, boring convo, boring convo......OH MY GOD SOMEONE HIT ME IN THE HEAD AND I FELL IN THE WATER. THANK GOD CHARLIE WAS HERE. but I'm not going to tell anyone I was hit over the head and I'm just gonna move on because why would I worry about that?" Please.....you cannot be the annoying. You have no clue about the mysteries and bullshit in this town but don't feel the need to tell Charlie someone hit you over the head before you fell in the water? Why would you not say anything?

Then, the one thing that is a taste complaint not anything else. We talk about how absolutely horny and how much she wants to sleep with people etc, then we fade to black the two times she does?.......fade to black in a reverse harem esque book. BE KIDDING. I could've maybe dealt with the rest of the book and said maybe a star higher but ARE YOU KIDDING. She also sleeps with the lead singer of a rock band and says she doesn't care if he doesn't have protection....and he says he will pull out. Way to prove you are just absolutely nothing like your mother. Same behaviors, same flakey behavior, same non committal attitude. But no worries you are definitely a kid who never got to have a childhood or in her own words "an old soul". Mam be a bigger pick me girl. Who also is mean to other girls, except the heavy set girl because you somehow draw the line at being an asshole at that. Okay.

Alright. I apologize, I didn't realize how much I disliked our main character until I had to write it out. That's a harsh rant, and to be honest the author can write there are parts of this story that pull you in and it's not a horrible read. The pet peeves of mine really just ruined it for me.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 - Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book!

This is definitely a fun mystery/thriller for the summer months!

Remi is a spunky but odd girl trying to find her way - and I love everything about her. She’s not afraid to go after what she wants and her inner monologue is too funny 😂

Although this was a very short read, the plot was gripping and that ending was 😱

I can’t wait for book 2!!

This book is the kind that you gobble up and can't put down.
I mean you've got a quirky FMC, multiple love interests with insta-attraction. You've got secrets (of course, it's in the title 😆), mysterious drownings with a paranormal feel, an enigmatic MMC with visions, and let's not forget a touch of M/M angst for some extra spark.

I've enjoyed this book a lot. I think Roisin did a great job in bringing all these different characters to life in a cohesive way. I know we've only just scratched the surface on the whole story but I'm already hooked and eager to learn more, especially about the guys and their past.

I loved Remi, she is unique and peculiar and she's trying is hard to reinvent herself in spite of the cards she's been dealt, including her unsupportive family.

Grady and Wilder were my two favorite guys, made even better by their attraction to each other. Charlie has definitely been ringing some bells in my head from the start, and the cliffhanger just had me wondering if my instinct was right. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Thank you to Happily Booked PR and the author for the ARC, all opinions are my own

ARC review

What a ride!

Roisin did an excellent job building up the mystery and suspense in this book. Remi is a great character and I'm loving Cal, Charlie, Wilder and Grady in their own unique way. Can't blame Remington for doing the same.
The cliff hanger has me on the edge, I cannot wait for book two!

"Lake Hollow is beautiful and deadly...What gives life, takes life"

Spice 🌶️🌶️

This book was a quirky small town why choose with a murder mystery that kept my curiosity peaked

Tropes:
🎟️ Why choose suspense
⛺ Medium Burn
🎟️ Mysterious Deaths
⛺ MM
🎟️ Small Town
⛺ Rockstar MMC
🎟️ Multiple POVs
⛺ Quirky FMC

Remi is a quirky gall who moves to a small town with her uncle and cousin to open a fair , where she meets the friendly Cal and Charlie, Grayson (a rockstar) and Wilder, the tatted and pierced neighbor. I liked Remi as a character, she really knew herself and what she wanted and was kind of just living her life.

"I own my body, my pleasure, who I decide to share it with."

I loved just how real she felt, she was funny, with dry sarcasm, responsible, and kinda just doing her own thing.

"Listen, I can keep my mouth shut, but you can read the subtitles on my face"

This book was a medium burn, with lots more development to come in the next book. I really enjoyed the supernatural undercurrent that was present throughout the entirety of the book. While I did find some parts to be rather slow at times, the cliffhanger at the end is not one I saw coming. Also I loved the MM relationship in this book and I'm so excited to see where it goes!

Overall an interesting and fun read, great summer vibes. ☀️

This book is maddeningly infuriating. The premise is super interesting. A lake where people keep drowning. A group of guys with a close knit history. Is there something paranormal happening? Is there a killer? So interesting!

But the writing is KILLING me. The set up is so confusing. It took me over half the book to figure out who is who and who is related to who. Backstory is given in small pieces with barely any explanation, it's like little confusing breadcrumbs that we're suppose to piece together.

The characters are ok. I like some aspects, and other aspects confuse me. Remi confuses me the most. I get she has a troubled past, but her behavior is bizarre in a bizarre way and not an enduring way. I find her obnoxious most of the time. I like some of the MMC's and others are just kinda there. Grady and Wilder are the most interesting. Charlie and Cal just feel, there.

The book starts off fade to black. And then we get some like very loosely described smut. I hope the next book has more.

The end had simultaneously a big reveal that also revealed nothing. I know that sounds weird, but if you read it, you know what I mean. Given the writing, I don't particularly want to read the next one, but also, I need to know what happens.

This is the kind of why choose book that leaves you wanting more of its kind and spending forever trying to fill the void it leaves. (dramatic? never.)

First of all, our FMC is unique and different in the best possible way. Reading how the author characterized her was honestly mind blowing because there wasn’t a mold she was trying to fit Remi into. She was fun, quirky, and so vastly different from what I’ve been used to reading that it felt like coming up for air.

There’s a nice suspense to this book; a mystery with so many secrets you just can’t stop reading, begging for more. The MMC’s were also all done so well. Sometimes in RH it’s very hard to tell the difference between characters, but this author sure knows how to flesh a character out.

Easily one of my top reads this year, many thanks to the author and her PR team for the ARC!

Took a bit to grab my interest. Quirky FMC comes into small town with secrets. Catches eye of multiple MMCs and finds herself in the middle of a mystery. Not sure i care enough to read other books. Meh.

Oh my God where do I start? Lake hollow secrets if the first book by Roisin I have read and i need the next immediately!

The plot twists?! I can normally see them a mile of but this book? I didn't know what was happening until it happened!

This book has it all, why choose, a small town full of mysteries, 8 deaths with unexplained circumstances and a loveable dog called Droolius!

I love Remi! She's such a unique character and unlike any I've read before. She's well developed and well written to the point I feel I actually know her at the end of the book!

I cannot wait for the next book and need it ASAP!!

I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who likes small towns, mysteries you can't see coming and why choose relationships!

So many times I was ready to quit this book, but I carried on..... but I really wish I hadn't wasted my time as it did not get any better.

The premises sounded interesting, but the writing just pulled me out of the story, so much more could have happened in this book but didn't.

The authors writing style is not for me. I was so confused about who everyone was and how they all knew each other or how they all connected together. So many of the interesting parts of the story were off page.... fair enough, but then they are just summerised with a passing one-liners.... and I was like..... that's quite a significant part of the story, and it gets a line or two!?!? For example, she starts seeing Cal first, one minute they work together, and the next, they are a couple.... no converstions or time spent together on page, but we get a sentence mentioned that he kept on talking and asking her, and so eventually she gave in. But we don't see any of this at all, its just mentioned after the fact. This happens so much in this book. Way too much tell and not shown in this book.

The whole book was pretty boring, so many things are hinted at and suggested, but looking back, nothing really happens, and you find out nothing about the secrets of the lake. Some parts were in detail, but didn't seem to add anything to the story, then the next we've jumed time and lots has happened in between.

Remi has the maturity and attitude of a sulky teenager, but I think she was supposed to be quirky. She is 19 and uses marker pens to draw on herself and dresses up in the oddest combinations of clothes and wigs. Her attitude was awful, to pretty much everyone, but the guys all seem to be drawn to her, but I can't see the attraction at all.

OK, so this is an RH, and she has four potential love interests, but we hardly see her spend any time with them.... It's all off page, so I have no idea why these guys would possibly like her. I don't feel like we got to know any of the guys much, one minute they were friends, then the next they were never friends at all, but then the next they have a shared connection - I was so confused.

As much as I want to find out who it is, I can't make myself read the other books.... I mean, this is dragged out for another two books. I'm hoping I can find out as a spoiler in another review.

☆˙୨ৎ⭒๋࣭⭑ Author: Roisin Visser ☆˙୨ৎ⭒๋࣭⭑

₊˚⊹♡ Rating: 4 / 5 Stars ₊˚⊹♡

⋆˚✿˖° Review:
so this was a different read than my typical fantasy books, & i am SO glad I read it! one of my favorite things about the book was Roisin's writing style. it was very relatable & modern which is one of my favs. all the characters felt very REAL, like their thoughts & feelings felt like someone would truly have. another note was the details added. i am a very visual reader, so when the author was so descriptive down to the outfits, i was visualizing everything. it never felt over the top, & never too descriptive. i loved this book! it is a great series beginner & setup the plot for book 2 great!

♡ What I Loved:
- relatability & authenticness of all the characters
- RH which is my fav trope
- mysteriousness & plot twists of the whole book
- writing style & descriptiveness
- if a character was introduced at the end of a chapter, the next pov was that character which made the story & timeline flow so well

.ᐟ What I Didn't Like:
- a few grammar errors (missing commas mostly), very few
- occasionally if there was multiple people in a dialogue it would be hard to follow who was saying what & to whom
- at the beginning several people were introduced so it was slightly hard to follow the connections to everyone & their family tree, over the course of the book it got easier and made sense

જ⁀➴ Spice Level: 1.5/5, just a few spice scenes, and when they happened it wasnt super descriptive, thats a personal thing but i know book 2 is gonna be more spicy

— ୨୧₊˚ Would I Recommend It?:
yes! it was a wonderful break from my norm, and the ending has me so excited to start book 2 (starting it today). i really enjoyed the writing, plot, and setting of the book. i would highly recommend to anyone who wants a short, easy, mysterious read!

₊˚⊹♡ Conclusion:
i never would have thought that mystery & RH could go together as well as it does. Roisin does a great job fusing the 2 in a interesting, enjoyable read. it was truly a great setup for the series. im v excited for book 2 & cant wait to read more from this author.

Ok. I have been waiting so freaking long to talk about this book! It’s the night before release day and I can’t hold it in anymore!

First off, you have Remi going to Minnesota for a fresh start and to help her uncle revitalize a run down theme park. It’s equipped with everything from clown statues on the mini golf, to bumper boats that look closer to group of stranded fish in a stagnant pond than actual boats.

Not only are they going to be remodeling the park, but there’s a huge music festival coming to the otherwise quiet town, bringing some new customers, new faces, and some not so happy memories for a few of the locals.

Along with her uncle Skip, Remi has her cousin, Natalie, there to “help”. I use that term loosely because she more flirts than anything else. Remi gets to make some new friends, probably against her will, and together they have to figure out what is going on around this lake. Trying to figure each other out is a task on its own.

There are so many mysteries surrounding this lake. Do they have a serial killer? Are they being haunted by one of the victims? What actually happened a few summers ago? Will Droolius have a recurring role in book 2?

Well, apparently Roisin lives to make us suffer and wait for the ending!

To tell you I was invested in this book was an understatement. This has mystery, suspense, romance (including a bit of MMFM) and plot lines for days! I have read over the entire book 3 times now to see if I could figure a few of the mysteries out. I have my theories, but I also have a feeling we are all going to get blindsided when book two comes out and blows all those theories out of the water. And I love every second of the sweet torment.

I highly recommend reading this. Please, for the love of everything dark and mysterious, read the trigger warnings before you start! Don’t blame the author if you got too excited to read, disregarded the warnings, and read something you didn’t like. You also have the option to DNF.. there’s no shame in deciding it’s not for you.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Spice Level: 1

Tropes:
why choose
reverse harem
suspense
mysterious deaths
multiple POVs

Lake Hollow Secrets follows the point of view of multiple characters who are currently residing in Lake Hollow, Minnesota. Our FMC is Remington, who has recently moved to Lake Hollow with her uncle and cousin when her uncle buys a local Fun Park to renovate. Remington is quirky, no filter young woman who finds herself interested in the different young men of Lake Hollow. But when random things start missing, lights flickering, in her cabin on the lake, Remington starts to wonder if it's a ghost... and maybe the secrets of Lake Hollow are something to be afraid of.

Or MMCs are Cal, Charlie, Grady, and Wilder. They all grew up together in Lake Hollow as teenagers. They've experience trauma together- rifts between the men definitely there as none of them want to be in Lake Hollow this summer. Was one of them to blame for the mysterious deaths that occurred 6 years ago? What secrets are they keeping?

The series started off a little slow for me but definitely picked up. I personally think there's too many POVs, BUT I'm invested to see where the story continues (in book 2) and why we need the POVs of each of the MMCs. I like Remington. She's dark, quirky, and so much doesn't give a crap what people thinks and is just herself. She's a little immature at times but I think that's the author showing her upbringing she had.

The storyline with the secrets, mystery, suspense definitely has me on the hook. I NEED TO KNOW what secrets Lake Hollow has. Is it paranormal? It is a person? Is it just accidental? I can't wait to read book 2 to find out.

Lake hollow is a place of legends, secrets that nobody wants to disclose or discover. When remi ends up in town with her uncle and cousin to restore the old fun park on one of her uncles whims, she doesn't expect to stick around long. She can feel the tensions growing between her and her so called family. She's been acting out, afraid of turning out just like her mom. Cal, Charlie, wilder and Grady used to be close, until the accidents happened. It's been six years and still there's no closure. They skate around each other with outright hostility. Wilder can't stop the visions that are plaguing him after coming back to town. Grady is there with his band, and can't get a certain someone out of his head. And then there's cal and Charlie, best friends that have been drifting apart until they meet remi. She intrigues them, but the secrets are starting to come out, piling up about the Lake and what happened to Katie Gibson and Sara Truitt. I love the murder mystery aspect of this book and having all the different povs to read the story from. That ending has me yearning for more. I'm falling for all the men in this book, but wilder is my number one. The damaged tattooed bad boy who everyone seems to think is responsible for what happened. But are they hiding deeper secrets? As always roisin's storytelling is exquisite and pulls you in from start to finish, leaving you begging for more. It's low on spice, but the spice we do get is delicious and addicting. And there's a bi awakening on top of it all! My absolute favorite story of hers.

The premise was good, I loved the setting, and find the characters interesting.

But the pacing is a complete mess. I want to watch the relationships grow, but the author zooms through the timeline, with short, tell-not-show scenes. Then she'll pause for long, meaningless scenes between the FMC and her friend or the friend's grandmother.

The stuff I really want to see happens off-page with vague recap paragraphs. For example: one character has visions, and sees the same sequence of events multiple times. When the event finally comes to pass, the scene ends abruptly with the FMC seemingly in danger. Then the following scene is from the POV of a character who wasn't there, takes place the next day, and the FMC is there doing just fine and acting like nothing happened.

So what was even the point of the visions? I expected the character to use his knowledge to stop something bad from happening, or to save the person who was supposed to be in danger. Instead,

Another head scratcher. At one point

I AM HOOKED!

I started this book and finished it all on the same day. There wasn’t a moment of free time that I didn’t spend reading this book. The plot, the characters, and the twists and turns had me 100% invested. If I could throw myself into this book and be a character I would. I already need the next book because that cliffhanger has me asking so many questions.

Remington is moving to Lake Hollow with her uncle and cousin for a new start. What she doesn’t expect is everything to go haywire. Remi’s character is free-spirited and curious. I’m so intrigued by her. She’s always doing whatever she wants even when people warn her away. I really can’t wait to see what she does in the next book.

Cal, Charlie, Grady, and Wilder have all lived in Lake Hollow. They’ve all witnessed the tragedies that have taken place. These tragedies have messed with them ever since they happened. But what happens when they’re all back in town and everything starts coming up. The guys in this book had me feeling many different emotions. One moment I was swooning and the next moment I wanted to shake them silly.

Even though I devoured this book some moments made me pause. There were a couple of chapters with an intense event happening and then it would end and the next chapter would be a different day. However, I feel like it should’ve picked up right after the intense event because it was so abrupt. Another thing was some of the spicy scenes. For example, in the very first one, Remi is very explicit about what she wants but then the scene fades to black. I feel like she was very detailed and then the scene didn’t match up with how explicit her words were.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I am excited to read the next one. The storyline has me hooked and I need to know what’s going to happen. I recommend reading and checking this book out!

**Lake Hollow Secrets by Roisin Visser**
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When Remington (Remi) James agreed to move with her offbeat Uncle Skip and her cousin, Natalie, to a small lakeside town in Minnesota for his new business venture, she never could have imagined how her life would turn upside down. All she wanted was a chance to start over, to reinvent herself. The problem is, she's quickly drawn into a web of lies, secrets, and strange happenings.

Charlie, Cal, Wilder, and Grady have spent their lives in Lake Hollow, but they are far from being friends. The tragedies that occurred years before pushed them together, each pointing fingers at one another. Is the lake cursed? Are the former Gibson Family FunPark and rental cabins in Lake Hollow haunted? Or is everyone just trying to make sense of the tragedies that have plagued the town in the only ways they can? Regardless, Remi is about to get pulled in by a killer.

This was an interesting read, blending a "why choose" romance with a gripping mystery. While I found the beginning a bit challenging to get into—mainly because it switched to unknown characters before the FMC had even met them—once you get to know the characters, the story blossoms into a captivating romance mystery. The initial confusion is worth pushing through, as the plot becomes thoroughly engaging. I’m eagerly anticipating book 2. If you're looking for a story that mixes romance with a touch of intrigue, "Lake Hollow Secrets" is a great choice. Just give it a few chapters to really draw you in!

This story gave me whiplash from the rollercoaster ride I took while reading this story. It is definitely one of those stories you have to pay close attention while reading because clues will start to piece together.

Remi our FMC is new to town she moved with her uncle Skip and Cousin Nat, from Florida to Minnesota to help open the amusement park he purchased where she mets our 4 MMCs. Cal who is an assistant Baseball Coach for the high school, Charlie who’s the rich boy but his family also used to own the park and is best friends with Cal, Wilder who is the town weirdo he has “spells” which are visions, and Grady who a rockstar from the town but is only here for a festival concert. All 4 of our MMCs grew up together but tragedy caused a strain but man the history the tension between them amazing.

This story has everything suspense, plot, romance, mystery, sprinkle of spice which includes MF, MFM, a little MM starting, so many things that will keep you invested my theories have been all over the place and I need book 2 so more of my theories can be wrong. Side note for Roisin I need that list to be longer I will not be okay if it is someone on that list.

I received an ARC of this book, my first from the author, and I loved it! But dang, that cliffhanger was a doosie—good thing book 2 is out soon! This one is an interesting mix of romance, mystery, thriller, paranormal, steamy reads, and poly/queer/reverse harem love interests! Remi is a firecracker with some interesting habits stylistically—her costumes, accents, sharpie tattoos, and don’t care attitude makes her a multifaceted FMC and with her Droolius pupper for a side kick, you are definitely along for the ride with her. Moving to Minnesota to rehab and run a fun park on a lake, one shrouded in mysterious deaths and rumors of haunting and curses, and apparently laden with four hot men, all in Remi’s sights. The rich boy and caretaker, Charlie, the tattooed bad boy and potential suspect who has visions, Wilder, the older brother and fun time, Cal, and the broody lead singer of a band, Grady. No wonder this girl is interested in them all. Plus we have a motley cast of family and new found friends who are a riot themselves—I laughed out loud several times! Burning on the tension and the steamy scenes—cannot wait to see more of how that all develops both romantically and physically! But, the biggest question of all is what did Carlotta know and who was/is behind these mysterious drownings! Can’t wait for book 2!

Remington James moves to Minnesota with her Uncle Skip and cousin Natalie for a business venture. However, her life takes a turn when she becomes drawn into lies, secrets, and strange happenings. The town's residents, including Charlie, Cal, Wilder, and Grady, are haunted by past tragedies and are trying to make sense of the town's past especially the cursed lake. Regardless, Remi is about to get pulled in by a killer.

The suspense and thrilling mysteries of this made me question my interest and wonder my curiosity about the events happening in the book. At first glance, the pacing of the story was seemingly slow, questionable and confusing. Eventually, as the story progressed, the sudden change of pace became increasingly serious, suspicious and thrilling vibes. Made me wonder if I want to become a detective for some reason because of the cliffhanger in the end. All in all, the plot and storyline is well written and words are wisely chosen. There's only a merely hint of spice, based on my readings of course however I still love it. I won't spoil any further.

Remington (Remi) James moves to Lake Hollow with her cousin Natalie and flighty Uncle Skip for his new business venture (reopening an old fun park). Remi isn’t prepared for what she finds there because she is soon embroiled in a mystery of unsolved deaths, lies, and possible ghost encounters. Add to that the romantic entanglements she finds herself in and she doesn’t quite know what to do in her new life. The guys (Cal, Charlie, Grady, and Wilder) all have a shared past of issues with each other surrounding the mysterious deaths at Lake Hollow. Remi starts a relationship with Cal and develops feelings for the other guys, but then she learns more about the secrets of Lake Hollow.

Remi is a quirky character and I liked her immediately. Her cousin Natalie is written as quite bratty and immature, but there is likely more to her story than we know and I hope we find out more in future books. I liked that there was a POV from Remi and the 4 guys. I was interested throughout the book and the mystery of what happened starts to unravel slowly, picking up in the latter half. I will read book 2 because it was a great first book!

Overall, I gave the book 4 out of 5 stars. Due to mature themes, I recommend the book for adults only. If you like multiple POVs, suspense, why choose, and paranormal activity this book is for you. Bonus points for the dog named Droolius!

Remington, her Uncle Skip, and cousin Natalie have just moved to a small town in Minnesota so that her uncle can start a new business. This is Remi's chance to start over.  Instead, Remi finds herself entangled with strange happenings at Lake Hollow, four boys, and their sordid past. Cal, Charlie, Wilder, and Grady grew up in the smalltown of Lake Hollow, but the four of them aren't friends. They are tied to each other by two unfortunate tragedies that occurred at the lake. Now, the four of them are crossing paths again, and Remi is caught in the middle.

Lake Hollow Secrets is a book mixed with mystery, suspense, eerily happenings, and romance. I'm a romance lover, and if I'm being honest, the murder mystery in this book worked better for me than any of the romance aspects did. I was super excited to see the why choose aspect of this book, but it was very lacking any not very spicy or smutty at all. I loved the whole suspense and haunted parts of the book. Those kept me hooked. I also really enjoy Wilder's character and what's going on with him (sorry, no spoilers here). While the story was very slow to start, it did eventually get there. I wasn't so sure if I was going to continue with the series until that cliffhanger of an ending!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️ (2/5)

Book 1 of 3, this is the beginning of Remi’s journey into the small town of Lake Hollow and Uncle Skip’s latest hair brain (to her, at least) business venture). It’s also a fresh start for her. Lots of family drama between her and her uncle, but also between Remi and her cousin Natalie. Natalie is Skip’s daughter whom he babies, while it seems like he treats Remi as if she’s just the helping hand. Natalie could get away with anything, but Remington couldn’t even chew gum without an explanation why she has the gum in the first place.

Meanwhile, you have these guys that grew up in Lake Hollow Charlie, Cal, Grady and Wilder that had tragedy torn their friendship apart years ago when the lake took someone they loved away from them. They’ve since been pointing fingers at each other.

Very much the suspense thriller it was set out to be. The family drama and angst set with Remi where she’s trying to figure herself out, where she fits in this new setting. The guys are all trying to there for one reason or another and just for that and then get out of dodge. Lake Hollow is given this sense that, if you are from there and you know it’s history, you know to stay away, whether or not you believe it’s cursed. The tragedies thats happened there is documented and that’s all anyone needs to know to avoid being in the water, if you know what’s good for you.

I love the atmosphere that’s been built for this and the fact that Remi didn’t give a damn about any of it. She was in her “don’t give a sh*t” era while her uncle was totally forward motion on his new project. Along the way, she meets each of these guys, which leads to her discovering they know each other and of the tragedy that’s happened at the lake. Everything centers on the deaths that took place there and that’s as much as I can say because there’s way too much details to go into at this point without spoiling things. There’s a lot of twists and turns like puzzle pieces here because everyone knows everyone so this is a really good book and series to get into. There’s multiple partners, a mystery to solve, lgbtq+ stuff, a dog named Droolius 🐶and even a ghost👻 (other faulty wiring, who knows). You have to read the book to find out how everything happens in this first of the trilogy.

I’m conflicted. This book was not my cup of tea, but did have some interesting parts. I noticed way too many grammatical mistake, run-on sentences, and fragments to get past. The plot was all over the place. It was hard to grasp the true story line because so many things were happening. The tiny bit of spice was very cliche and forced. I wanna know who the killer is, but not enough to read another book in the series.

Remi, her cousin Natalie and her Uncle Skip move to Lake Hollow to take over and reopen a “Funpark.” While there, Remi meets four men she’s interested in. Cal and Charlie, still friends and work at the Funpark, both had sisters that drowned in the lake. They both also think Wilder is responsible for it. Wilder and Grady, no longer friends with each other or Cal/Charlie, are also on Remi’s radar but have an attraction to each other. Remi finds out, contrary to belief, that her mother and aunt did not die in a plane crash but ran off together and abandoned their families. At the end, an old woman named Carlotta (who I think used to run the Funpark?) leaves Wilder a letter that states she knows there’s no way he could be the killer but that there is indeed a serial killer around Lake Hollow— she names Grady, Cal and Charlie.

Excuse me?! Excuse me?? Um, what?? Wowzers and whaaaaat?? Firstly, awesome awesome and what a blinding read, but come on now for crikey's sake, what a cliffhanger! But whoop for a book 2! What a great start to a series and um, yes please, more will be very much appreciated thanking you kindly!

Remi moves to a lakeside town in Minnesota to help her Uncle Skip in his new business venture. However, she lands smack bang in the middle of things she could not have anticipated, or imagined for that matter. There are strange things afoot in Lake Hollow, not least around the Gibson Family Fun Park and rental cabins, but how is all this associated with the four men Remi meets, what are the events that have driven these childhood friends apart and who is hiding a very, very dangerous secret?

Ooof! Although this is the first in the Lake Hollow series, the writing is so utterly glorious that I am going to be seeking out more books from Roisin Visser. The character building is intriguing and I ned to know more about Lake Hollow and its secrets1 There is huge potential and I am here for it! If you want a great introduction to this writer, it is defo this one as I am well and truly hooked! (lake/ fishing pun not intended)

Thank you very much to Happily Booked PR and Roisin Vesser for this brilliant ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

This is a case where I wish there were half stars or quarter stars. This was a solid 3.75 for me so I went with 4 stars in my rating to be fair.

This book had it all, romance, suspense, paranormal, steam. I appreciated that it wasn't your typical suspense novel and the author tried to develop the characters and help you see different sides to them.

I enjoyed that Remi wasn't your typical "romantic lead". She wears wigs, talks in different accents depending on her mood, has her own style, and really embraces her sexuality and own desires. The fact that the men in the book are falling all over here is really refreshing.

The one place I struggled with this book was all the characters. For me there were too many, some with the same first initial (Cal, Charlie, Carlotta, Ceily, Remi, Reila) that it was hard to follow what was going on with which character. Especially as you get parts of the story from their perspective as each chapter has a different characters point of view.

The "cliffhanger" ending is for sure going to require me to pick up the next in the series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
#️⃣ of pages: 215
Genre: Suspense, mystery, Romance
Tropes: four men who grew up together, MMMFM, Multi POV, mysterious deaths, first book of a series, misleading MMC

There wasn’t a moment of free time that I didn’t spend reading this book. The plot, the characters, and the twists and turns had me 100% invested. I already need the next book because that cliffhanger has me asking so many questions. 😩
Remi’s character is free-spirited and curious. I’m so intrigued by her. She’s always doing whatever she wants even when people warn her away. I really can’t wait to see what she does in the next book. 🫶
Cal, Charlie, Grady, and Wilder have all lived in Lake Hollow. They’ve all witnessed the tragedies that have taken place. These tragedies have messed with them ever since they happened. 😔
In this book had me feeling many different emotions. With a compelling blend of romance, mystery, and suspense, this book keeps readers hooked until the very end. 😍
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I am excited to read the next one. The storyline has me hooked and I need to know what’s going to happen. I recommend reading and checking this book out! 🙌

"'You're demented, aren't you? You'll fit in well in Lake Hollow.'"
⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️
If Friday the 13th was a why choose, I feel like it would be like this.
You get the cabin by the lake with multiple suspicious drownings, there may or may not be a serial killer on the loose, tons of hormonal teen angst and multiple moody love interests.
Remi is one of those slightly infuriating mfcs. Sometimes it's hard to follow her thought process because she has so much angst. I feel like at the core, this is a story about her trying to find herself and balancing that with the needs of her uncle and cousin. Whom, might I add, I genuinely do not like.
The mmcs in this are all very different in their motivations for being back in Lake Hollow. Because it's multiple POV we get a glimpse into everyone's thought process and what kind of men they are but there's still so many secrets.
I really thought that this was going to be a ghost story and it still might be. There's a lot of twists and turns and questions that are left unanswered, which makes me really excited to read more.
With that cliffhanger, I know book 2 is going to be a wild ride.
