Princess Iona Drever has been raised to believe that sacrifice is necessary for the stability of her people. Paying her family's debt to a fellow Fae group means being locked into an engagement without hope of love. Her Elvish fiancé has no desire to wed her, being in love with another. Her journey to become a healer of the four realms has brought her to the werewolves, where an unrequited love is becoming a leader. One single battlefield kiss changed everything for her five years ago. Back together after five years, these feelings still burn brightly for the royal water fairy. Iona must decide what path she will walk and what she is willing to sacrifice for true love. Nico Reinhart is taking over as the Alpha of his pack. Every year that passes makes him restless, waiting for a fated mate he can hear and feel in his mind. When the fairy who haunted his thoughts from his youth reappears, she brings up old feelings and regrets. Finally giving in to his wolf's feelings, Nico must decide if he will throw away the newfound peace between the realms for a chance with the fairy of his dreams. Will he defy his pack leadership and a royal decree to secure the fated mate he's loved since he was a pup?Iona and Nico will struggle to make peace with the past while attempting to find a future where they don't destroy everything that has been built... including their own.
Oh my god, every book in this series I tell myself I can’t possibly fall in love with a couple more and somehow I do every time. Nico and IO are everything. I loved the teenage sweetheart past and the troubling obstacles in their way every step forward. I’m so so excited to dive into vampires next!
I absolutely loved this book! From the first page, I was completely swept away by the emotion, the tension, and the deep, aching pull between Iona and Nico. Their connection felt so raw and real, and I couldn’t stop thinking about them even when I wasn’t reading. The blend of longing, duty, and that spark of hope for something more had my heart in knots in the best possible way. Iona’s inner strength and Nico’s fierce devotion made me fall for them both—hard.
This story had everything I adore in a romance: fated mates, forbidden love, and characters who feel like they’ve lived entire lives before the first kiss even happens. I found myself holding my breath through every twist, rooting for them with all my heart. It’s one of those stories that leaves you feeling full and wistful all at once. I’m already thinking about when I can reread it. If you love emotional, magical, slow-burn romances, this one will steal your heart just like it did mine.
Another fun installment of the Bramble Fae Universe. I love how despite the books sharing a core plotline (unlikely love interests trying to overcome the obstacles keeping them apart), each book has its own unique set of challenges that make them an engaging read. So many ideas and characters we've been introduced to had their moments to shine and made the first trilogy feel complete while still leaving the door open for our next installments.
With our FMC, Iona, being a princess, a treaty and arranged marriage was a perfect obstacle that also let us explore the changing politics and alliances of all the realms. There were also powerful moments in this book exploring loss, grief, love, and duty. I was so glad to see our leaders/royalty/parental figures have moments to shine and not just be blank background characters. The letters exchanged between kings were beautifully written and one of my favorite parts of this book. I was also excited to see characters from the previous books and to learn how their lives had changed, even if those moments weren't all happy ones.
This third installment is possibly my favorite yet! Though I'm torn on my favorite... Nicole returns to prove his young heart always knew what he wanted. This book has a slower start setting the stage for the ending. Because we already know the backstory as well as all of the main characters, it's easy for this tale to move a bit slow, filling in the gaps about Nico and IO. I was never bored, though, and always wanted more (even when I had things I needed to do). This is a page turner still, just like the previous two. I love how in each installment we get to see into the lives of so many other characters previously mentioned. I personally prefer 1st person narrative, but these books follow similarly to a dual perspective story, just told in 3rd person. I'm about to jump into the next book because I always knew Gwen would become a key player and I need to know what happens in her tale!
Wendy Wills is an inspiration! She continues to write heartwarming books that captivate you with her beautiful words.
Nico has loved Iona since he was a teen. They thought they hated each other but unbeknownst to both they secretly loved one another.
Iona returned to Whispering Sun to complete a year in the medical field. She quickly ran into Nico and felt the sparks fly. They fight their attraction but love overpowered.
Unfortunately, Iona signed a contract to wed Lirien at age seventeen. They made it known that they did not wish to wed but they couldn’t get out of the contract. Many family members try to pull strings on their end. Would they be able to convince their family to be released from the contract? Would they be able to follow their hearts or wed into a loveless marriage?
Wendy frequently continues to publish touching books and each one captures my heart!
SO addictive! I've pretty much binged through the first three books. I was so frustrated for IO and Nico! I couldn't see how it could end well. But I felt safe because Wendy Wills is a HEA writer, and I love that! There was just enough of a tease at the end of this book that I'm dying to read the 4th!
This third book finishes out the fairy trilogy and preps for the next installment of the overarching Bramble Fae. Nico and IO face challenges that would make most people crumble. Wendy again brings in her snark. This character driven second-chance story is a quick read but packed with action and twists. I can wait to start the vampire arc.
