Chains of Satin by Delilah St. Rivers is my first dip into dark billionaire romance and holy moly it did not disappoint.

Petunia works for a house cleaning company to help support herself and her ailing parents. They all live in her childhood home with the help of Rico, a in home nurse.

One day, Petunia is cleaning the home of the ever so gorgeous billionaire, Ethan Richard Aldrich when he stumbles upon her sampling a bit of his cologne. A situation that would normally result in termination from her job, resulted in the termination of her old life as she knew it.

The spice was SPICY. I found out things about myself I had never thought about while reading this. As a dark romance, there are situations and topics covered that may be triggering for some, so make sure you read them before diving in.

The story was very one sided and spent a lot of time on “Pet” with her past and current issues. I’m hoping the next book will dive a little more into Ethan with his back story and perspective - I want to know more about how he ticks.

The overall writing style of this book was fantastic and kept me engaged the entire time. I fell in love with the characters and I never found myself confused - just hungry for more.

All in all, I throughly enjoyed this book. It came at a time when I needed an entertaining story such as this. A lovely break from my heavy fantasy reads.

I have to say this lived up to the subject of the book ...

I just was NOT a fan of the underlying plots in the story ... I found it a bit distracting ONLY because I was wanting more when it came to it and less of the major subject of the book.

Overall, I loved Ethan! What could you possibly NOT love?!

This had major 50 Shades of Grey vibes, but it held up to its own.

Proceed with caution ...

Chains of Satin by Delilah St. Rivers follows Pet (Petunia) as she struggles with taking care of both of her parents. Her dad whom she doesn’t share much of a relationship with, sits in his chair most days. Pet’s mother is battling Alzheimer's and Pet works as a Houskeeper to pay the bills. This is where she catches the eye of Ethan, a successful and somewhat ruthless businessman, and owner of the house Pet cleans. As soon as Pet catches Ethans eye, there isn’t much time to blink or even breath before Ethan makes his move. Pet doesn’t know what to think, she’s always been the fixer, the one to handle it all. But Ethan is charging through whether Pet is on board or not.

I have never been on board with an insta-romance, which this one certainly is. Ethan makes his intentions clear and isn’t afraid to push through boundaries to show it. Pet’s relationship with her father is non-existent. It makes it hard to believe their connection. Pet’s relationship with her mom is more thought out and you really want to empathize with her struggle to come to terms with her mom’s illness and episodes of violence. It really does tug at you during her mom's bad moments. Ethan acts as an anchor and a comfort, which I think Pet needs. But the relationship between Pet and Ethan seemed very fast, it felt more like love bombing to me and less like genuine care and affection. Throwing tons of gifts and money at her feels more like a control factor rather than love.

I also didn’t enjoy the throuple situation as much as I thought. I wanted to like Daniel but he felt more like a borrowed plaything that was shoehorned in for the sex. Their relationship feels surface level and makes me feel kinda bad for Daniel despite the arrangement. And the ending definitely left something to be desired. Miscommunication tropes are okay, I like it when it serves a purpose. But again, this one felt shoehorned in to create conflict. It really just discredited Ethan and Pet’s relationship and all they've done to build up to this point. I mean they’ve always been able to talk it out and communicate in a healthy way. So for Pet to just see something, assume, leave a note and then dip....it really just feels like this ending wasn’t the intended ending. There are so many other approaches to setting up a “chasing/groveling” sequel and miscommunication isn’t the best.

Overall, I would like to read a sequel just to see how they plan to resolve this, because in this instance I don’t think Ethan is in the wrong, nor do I think he should have to do any groveling.

Chains of Satin by Delilah St. Rivers tells the story of Petuna Barlowe, Ethan Aldrich, and their less than conventional love story. Everything turned on a dime, one fateful day, when Ethan caught Petunia helping herself to a healthy dose of his cologne and the rest, as they say, was history. The two engage in all sorts of unbridled kink, banter, and, not the least of all, love.

What will make this read quickest and most appealing is Rivers’ conversational writing style. We jump quickly into the action alongside Petunia and Ethan, volleying between their points of view in order to get a full picture of just how their love story unfolded. As a result, we straddle both the present day, in Ethan’s therapist’s office, and the previous six months that span the happiest time in the pair’s relationship. That said, I immediately felt like the two halves of this couple were telling me their story, as though they were sitting across from me on my couch. And while there were times when the switching points of view didn’t precisely work for me — and were frequently disorienting — I do think the set-up of this structure will pay off in future entries in Ethan and Petunia’s story.

The plot of this novel is a familiar one for frequent fliers in the romance genre, and while I longed for something a little fresher, the story is well executed. There’s a clear beginning, middle, and end. In large part due to the clarity of the main protagonists; you understand their core tensions and motivations quite well, within a few chapters, and you’re eager to follow their story. As I said before, Rivers manages a deceptively simple conversational tone, and easily draws readers in. While I expected this to be a rags-to-riches story, in which the female MC completely loses herself in her new partner, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how firmly Petunia stood in herself and her own agency, even as she is sufficiently swept off her feet by the increasingly doting (and rich!) Mr. Aldrich.

Chains of Satin by no means reinvents the wheel, but it’s a quick, well-executed read. And by the end of it, even those who don’t often dabble in the genre will find themselves even the faintest bit curious about what happens to Ethan and Petunia — and what other forms of debauchery they can get up to. Who doesn’t love a spicy little beach read?

Delilah St. Rivers debut Chains of Satin is a steamy romance that can’t be put down! Enter Ethan Aldrich III. Rich, handsome, powerful, international real estate businessman. What more could he want? Nothing… so he thinks. But that all changes when he hires a cleaning company for his home and meets Petunia, one of the housekeepers. Not only does Petunia work at Regal Cleaning Services, but she also cares for her ill parents. Things heat up really fast between the two. He cares for her in a way she has never felt before which in turn helps to start her healing journey from her past trauma. However, it seems that all good things may come to an end for this couple and Ethan is the only one to prevent that.

Delilah's writing style is both fluent and graphic in the best way possible. The spice level of writing was way more than I expected without being overdone. I was able to visualize the story as I was reading it which I always appreciate. That’s how I know I’ve been captured in this book. The characters were introduced and developed throughout the story clearly and without being wordy. Although, there were some parts when Ethan spoke that felt too much. Some things that he said and the way he said it, I don’t think anyone would say in a casual conversation.

Think of this as Fifty Shades of Grey with a plot and storyline. Although the spice takes up a good portion of the book, I am still intrigued about Petunia’s story, her family, her past, and ultimately the relationship she builds with Ethan. Delilah shows us the growth, confidence, and security that Petunia finds through her story with Ethan.

I highly recommend Chains of Satin to anyone who loves some spice, loves some drama, and loves a book that can’t be put down. I will continue to follow Petunia and Ethan’s story as well as read more of Delilah St. Rivers books.

It’s a smuttier version of E.L. James’s The Mister with less plot and all vibes. I enjoyed how Petunia and Ethan were always communicating. They were always open and honest with each other and you really got to see how they fell for each other and were able to create a healthy relationship.
However, their relationship was the only one I enjoyed in the book. Petunia's relationship with Shay felt cringe and forced on me. And I won’t mention how unprofessional her relationship is with her mom’s home health nurse. (As someone who has a home health nurse, their interactions were so not okay. Hugging family members, calling them endearing pet names, sedating the patient, etc.)
Anyway, what I’m saying is the care her mom was receiving in the background wasn’t realistic and it took away from the front story. It was hard to focus on how Ethan and Petunia were becoming closer when the outside force driving them closer wasn’t realistic.
I really enjoyed the Ethan’s chapters. He has the whole Louis from Interview With A Vampire prose going on. He was melodramatic and over the top making me want to read on just to get to the next chapter. I liked the foreshadowing and how his chapters always brought the reader back to the present story to remind us that it’s not going to have a happy ending. That was the biggest reason why I continued to read on. I wanted to know why Petunia left and what happened.
I didn’t always enjoy what I was reading and most parts of the story so I’m not going to read the second book, but all the best to Dehila and her writing career.

Overall, Delilah St Rivers did really good with Chains of Satin. In this story, you experience a young woman, Petunia, working all the time cleaning houses to make ends meet to take care of two ailing parents, one from an aggressive dementia, and the other from major health issues. Of those houses is one of a billionaire, Ethan, (because all billionaires need their houses cleaned!) who very quickly becomes infatuated with Petunia. Petunia gets attacked, injured, and Ethan feels obligated to help her. Except during this time she faces a huge tragedy in her personal life, and is trying to figure out how to manage everything all once. Petunia has to figure out how to deal with all of that all at once, while also figuring out a relationship with Ethan.

Fans of more BDSM styles may particularly enjoy this, as well as spicy scenes back to back. Overall, Delilah’s writing style was pretty good. I feel as though the character growth was also good, albeit a bit rushed feeling in some aspects with the relationship between Petunia and Ethan. The overall plot is definitely for the lovers of spicy scenes I feel, and felt a little rushed and glazed over in the beginning.

Overall, it was a really good read.
I’d say
overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5. (Only because of how it felt a little more rushed to me in the beginning, but that’s me personally. So it gets rounded up to a 4 for rating purposes!)

“I could always wrap you in chains of satin, instead.”
Chains of Satin by Delilah St. Rivers is a dark romance that follows the relationship of housemaid Petunia Barlowe and billionaire Ethan Aldrich. Petunia is a heavily burdened woman caught between taking care of her ailing parents and working as a housemaid to the gorgeous Ethan. One fateful night, there relationship turns from professional to sensual. Ethan is struck by how Petunia is able to draw her in with her submissive nature. Petunia is completely swept up in how loving and caring this dominant man can be after having had a dark history with dominant men before. This story follows their relationship and the intricate web of possibly love.

The plot of the story was pretty good. It was my first dark romance novel and it was very spicy for this novice. At some points the story felt a little rushed to me without enough information and I wish I could get more back story on some of the supporting characters. I found Daniel very intriguing and would love to learn more about him. Also, Rico was a gem and would’ve loved more about him.

All in all I enjoyed this book and would love to read the second one! I’d definitely recommend this to novice dark romance readers.

This is a book that delves into the mysterious and alluring world of smut, love, dom/sub and more, weaving together elements of romance, suspense, and intrigue. The characters are well-developed, each with their own unique personalities and motivations and I do love how Ethan calls Pet darling 😍

I loved the communication between Ethan and Pet, it was so refreshing to see how open they were with each other and to actually listen.

However, there were some parts that felt slow to me, I couldn’t get into some of it and I didn’t get on with the language, I’m not sure if it is “posh” or what, but I just couldn’t get into it.

Overall, Chains of Satin is a book that offers a unique blend of genres and an intriguing premise. While it may not have been a perfect fit for my personal taste, I believe that readers who enjoy atmospheric storytelling and a whole lot of smut would love this!

Chains of Satin is a dark and spicy romance. This is the debut novel of Delilah St. Rivers, and she is definitely an author that I will keep an eye on in the future. This story is a dark one, so make sure if you have triggers that you look at the warnings before proceeding.

This book follows the story of Ethan and Petunia. Ethan is a rich and powerful businessman who quickly becomes enamoured with Petunia who is working as a maid in his home. Ethan is swoon-worthy and my biggest complaint of this book is that we just don't get enough of his back story or enough of him in general. I needed more Ethan. I wasn't a huge fan of Petunia in this story, but maybe in the next installment the author will change my mind. I did love so many of the secondary characters in this book, especially Daniel and Rico and hope we get to see more of them in the next book in the series.

Chains of Satin is a dark romance and don’t forget also very spicy. Debut novel by Delilah St. Rivers, and she did an amaing job. Not only did she create a dark romance she created a story in which you can emerge yourself into. The story has some potential trigger warning for some people please check those out. Now lets talk about Ethan a rich businessman and his maid Petunia. Ethan was a great male lead has great book boyfriend potential and we definitely need more of him. Petunia is struggling with her personal life and when things heat up she falls for him. I could definitely feel the interaction between these two, the interactions definitely give you the feels. The characters were great, the side line characters were also amazing they all developed as the story goes on. Ethan relationship with Petunia definitely helped her heal and move on with Ethan.

*ARC Review* Hot hot hot and heavy heavy heavy. I don’t usually billionaire romance. I barely romance without magic and fantasy aspects so this is new for me. Absolutely check your triggers for this one. There is a lot of trauma addressed in this book and also some quite fabulous spice. While I kept checking in with myself throughout out the read and was definitely missing some magic I was also desperate to know what happens next. Couldn’t put it down. Finished it in a matter of days. So if you, like me, are a romantasy girl and looking to try something a little different than your usual, this is a good bet for you. High spice and again check those triggers.

Whoa... this was definitely a ride.
The story of Ethan and Petunia is wrought with passion, devotion, and trust. The way Ethan cares for Petunia, out of the bedroom, is so enviable that I almost want to call this a fantasy.
The ending crushed my heart, though. I'm so glad there is another book after this because the ending... ugh.

I can't say that I've read many romances like this one because the closest I can say I've read like it was 50 Shades. This was not that. There are a lot more graphic scenes, so that is my main warning to readers. However, the book, itself, also has the trigger warnings.

If you like dark romances, this is definitely one you want to pick up.

A dual POV spicy billionaire romance that has charming characters and an actual plot outside the smut! Come for the smut and stay for the character arc! Petunia and Ethan are a sassy fun pairing, and the dominant/submissive dynamic between them is beyond delicious. There are seemingly endless sex scenes, and still an endearing side story that showcases Ethan and Petunia are more than just characters in a smut book, they are people! The balance there was a true enjoyment for me, as I found myself actually caring about the characters beyond just the lovely ravishing sex scenes written by the talented Delilah!
I look forward to the sequels!

Chains of Satin by Delilah St. Rivers takes you on a journey of emotions. Step into the world of the handsome billionaire Ethan and the overly caring Petunia.

Delilah's writing style pulls you in ever so smoothly into the spicy scenes, but still provides enough of a plot to keep the reader's interest. A few times, I was a little lost as time jumps would happen within one sentence. However, this didn't take away from the story overall.

If you enjoyed 'The Highest Bidder', then this one is for you!

Chains of Satin by Delilah St. Rivers is a breath of fresh air in the dark romance book world. Her story follows Petunia, a burdened housekeeper trying to make money to care for both her parents, and Ethan, a real estate mogul with a British accent and a reputation for being a bit of a playboy. The story follows them from infatuation, to obsession, to love?

Despite the book dealing with increasingly morbid topics, it doesn’t take itself too seriously. St. Rivers seamlessly balances the light and the dark, all while taking subtle moments to humanize these characters. This book may depict one of the “healthiest” relationships I have seen in the dark romance world. Ethan and Petunia communicate about everything (except…), and it also gives the reader a look into how official Sub dom relationships work and how they can be trauma-informed.

I had a couple of moments in the book where I didn’t feel I understood the motive behind the character’s decisions, which led me to decrease the stars I gave this read. The spicy writing was just that, extra spicy, but the backstory felt a little bit forced, a bit out there, and that “Pets” problems were made for Ethan to be able to solve. I also thought that the backstory could have been more concise, and I would love to see more chapters from Ethan’s perspective. There were a couple of characters that I felt took a backseat in this book, and I am hoping to see more of them in the second.
Specifically: Shay- the flirtatious best friend, Stanley and Daniel- the indirect/direct cause of the spiciest scenes in the book, and Joseph-Ethan’s psychiatrist, who formerly had marriage issues that, apparently, Ethan helped solve.
There is a lot to unpack there, and I am genuinely excited for it.

Overall, Chains of Satin is a great book for novice dark romance readers. It does not contain the issues that people usually have with dark romance, and it focuses more on women's empowerment than their degradation.
