Megan Hess was destined to draw.

An initial career in graphic design evolved into art direction for some of the world’s leading design agencies. In 2008 Hess illustrated the New York Times number one selling book Sex And The City - written by Candace Bushnell. She has since illustrated portraits for Vanity Fair and Time, created iconic accessories for Henri Bendel and illustrated the windows of Bergdorf Goodman in New York.

Hess’s signature style can also be found on her bespoke range of silk scarves, cushions and Limited Edition prints sold around the globe.

She has written and illustrated 3 best selling books: Fashion House, The Dress and Coco Chanel.

The majority of the illustrations are done in different shades of pink and all the females including baby Grace and some nuns look like they're wearing lipstick. If that's not weird enough there are golden nameplates in many of the illustration that just say Grace as if to remind you who she is. I know though it's because this book is geared towards a girly girl audience who love pink and gold just as much as they love princesses and actresses.

Je connaissais Grace Kelly de nom mais j’ignorais tout de l’ancienne princesse de Monaco ! J’ai adoré découvrir son ascension et son histoire à travers cet ouvrage illustré par Megan Hess … J’avais découvert l’illustratrice avec son ouvrage sur Audrey Hepburn que l’on m’avait offert à Noël dernier …
Je trouve ses ouvrages très complets et plaisants à parcourir : l’objet livre est, pour moi, un véritable objet de collection !

Hace un par de días vi este libro de @meganhess_official sobre la vida de #gracekelly en mi estanteria. Lo compré el año pasado en @librerialamistral y aún lo tenía sin leer 😍 como tantos otros 🙃 no puede ser esto 🙃

Pues me puse con él por fin y me ha gustado mucho 😍 Es el tercero que tengo de ella. Coco, Audrey y ahora Grace 💜 muy fan de esta colección.

Desde niña me ha fascinado la vida de Grace Kelly y he leído varias biografías de ella, es un personaje que de vez en cuando vuelvo a él 😊 Ese carácter lento y pausado que irradiaba y esa elegancia tan chic 🥰

Quizá por el glamour que envuelve al personaje, su vida de cuento de hadas, no sé, siempre me ha gustado al igual que Audrey 🥰

Más allá del mito, realmente era una mujer con fama de fria. Hitchcok la definía como un volcán cubierto de hielo y la apodó "La princesa de las nieves".

Era muy trabajadora y muy ambiciosa y en público siempre se comportaba con decoro y elegancia, tenía mucha clase. Esa moda de alta costura de los años 50 por favor 😍 ideal 🥰

No le gustaba que le dijeran lo que tenía que hacer y en la intimidad se permitía libertades y gozaba de compañías masculinas con asiduidad a pesar de la estricta educación que había tenido.

Se enamoró del príncipe y dejó de prestar atención a las cámaras para centrarse en el papel más importante de su vida: Ser princesa 💜

Perfeccionó el arte de la diplomacia real, aprendió francés y se dedicó a ser madre, a las obligaciones de la corona y a causas sociales. Fue muy querida y llorada por su pueblo y nos dejó muy pronto, con tan solo 52 años víctima de un derrame cerebral según las fuentes oficiales.

Pues es una belleza este libro la verdad 😍

An elegant book about an elegant life 🩷

This is a lovely biography of classic cinema icon (and real life Princess) Grace Kelly, created by author and illustrator Megan Hess. 

It contains the high points movie buffs will know, including her rise to fame from High Noon through to her iconic roles as the ice blonde in Alfred Hitchcock films like To Catch a Thief. 

The book also summarises her transition from movie queen to Princess Grace of Monaco, and her sad early death.

But it contains many points I have not read before, such as how she failed her college entrance exams, and her deliberate transition to a specific voice and accent to assist with movie casting.

The illustrations are spare and elegant, with easily identifiable images of key outfits and accessories. I adore Megan Hess' art style, and the white, gold and pink theme of the hard cover and built-in bookmark ribbon is carried through the pages (and the page edges are gold!). 

If you are already a fan of Grace Kelly, or would like to know more about her, this would be an excellent and beautiful starting point.

Personally, while I would have liked more detail about Grace Kelly, I knew that this book would be strong on the art and lighter on the text, so was not disappointed.

In that regard, it delivered what I expected.

I would, however, have liked a little more variation on the drawing of Grace Kelly's face. While each dress, scene and accessory is beautifully rendered, it quickly became apparent that the same facial illustration is repeated. A minor quibble, but it did bug me. It may not be an issue for you!

I love Megan Hess' illustration style, and I have been a fan of Grace Kelly for a while now, so this book is the perfect marriage of both. Hess gives an excellent overview of Kelly's life, divided into three parts: The Woman; The Work; The Legacy. Pertinent facts about Kelly's life are accompanied throughout by beautiful, pink-themed illustrations. This book is perfect for Kelly fans.

Megan Hess se formó en diseño gráfico y se especializó en dirección artística. Trabajó para algunas de las principales agencias de diseño del mundo y para "Liberty London". Su nuevo trabajo es también una biografía, sobre la famosa actriz y princesa Grace Kelly, cuya vida no sólo estuvo relacionada con el mundo de la gran pantalla, si no también de la moda, por sus icónicos guantes blancos, sus vestidos y su elegancia natural.

El trabajo de Lunwerg con "Grace Kelly. La princesa que marcó estilo" es digno de colección. Además, sigue la línea del resto de títulos de Megan Hess: en tapa dura y con las páginas de un gramaje de calidad, con el tacto tipo satinado que le da mayor elegancia. Pero sin duda lo que más resalta es el color dorado metalizado no solo usado para el título, sino con el que también han decorado el canto de las páginas, creando un precioso y llamativo efecto. Como he indicado, son ediciones ideales para coleccionar y que cualquier amante de los libros y las novelas gráficas sabrá apreciar.

El estilo ilustrativo de Megan Hess es muy reconocible, sobre todo por la caracterización de los personajes. Sus trazos son muy elegantes y en las ilustraciones predomina siempre el color blanco y negro, con contraste con el tono dorado y siempre otro color de base. En "Audrey Hepburn. Elegancia natural" fue el azul turquesa, y en esta ocasión, con "Grace Kelly. La princesa que marcó estilo" el color rosa. Las ilustraciones quedan muy acordes a la elegancia del personaje que representa, ya que la autora ha tenido detalles muy significativos como los guantes blancos, las perlas o los vestidos con los que destacó Grace Kelly.

Megan Hess ha dividido "Grace Kelly. La princesa que marcó estilo" en tres partes: "La mujer", "La estrella" y "El legado". En cada una de ellas el lector podrá conocer un poco más sobre la vida de la actriz y posterior princesa.

Cada página contiene un pequeño texto incluido en la ilustración en el que la autora detalla los hechos más importantes sobre la vida de Grace Kelly. Por ejemplo, sobre su infancia, su dedicación al teatro, su estancia en el Hotel Barbizon, su trabajo como modelo siendo una de las "chicas de las powers", cómo posteriormente trabajo para la gran pantalla y cómo acabó siendo la princesa de Mónaco.

Como no podía ser de otra manera, Megan Hess hace también mucho hincapié en los vestidos más icónicos de Grace Kelly y su estilo, no solo en los eventos importantes si no también en su día a día. Es difícil olvidar a Grace Kelly, su vestido negro y sus perlas en la película de "La ventana indiscreta", por ejemplo,

De esta manera, el lector irá pasando por la vida de Grace Kelly de una manera muy entretenida, amena e interesante. La autora ha destacado los rasgos más reseñables de su vida, su trágica muerte y su posterior legado. Sin duda, lo que más destaca de "Grace Kelly. La princesa que marcó estilo" son las ilustraciones, con las que cualquier fan de la moda, el cine o de Grace Kelly se va a deleitar.

Grace Kelly ist eine der schönsten Frauen, die ich je gesehen habe, ein wahres Beispiel für Anmut, Gelassenheit und Eleganz. Ich war froh, als ich auf diese illustrierte Biografie stieß, die alles widerzuspiegeln scheint, wofür Grace Kelly stand. Das Buch an sich ist ein wahrer Schatz, ein wunderschönes Exemplar mit Goldschnitt. Die Illustrationen im Inneren des Buches sind wundervoll und lassen den Leser leicht in das Universum einer unvergesslichen Frau eintauchen.

Meine Meinung:

Grace Kelly ist berühmt für ihre Zeit als Schauspielerin, aber auch für ihren einzigartigen eleganten Stil und ihr Leben als europäische Prinzessin. Wie das Buch deutlich zeigt, hat sie ein interessantes Leben geführt. Von der Schauspielerin mit dem unvergesslichen Lächeln bis hin zur eleganten Fürstin von Monaco hat sie ein unglaubliches Erbe hinterlassen. Ich war sehr beeindruckt von ihrem Leben und fand es toll, dass die Autorin sich bemüht hat, verschiedene Aspekte ihres Lebens darzustellen. Bis heute ist Grace Kelly eine kulturelle Ikone, die es verdient, dass man sich an sie erinnert.

Das Buch erzählt von ihrem Leben als Kind, wo sie aufgewachsen ist und wie sie zur Schauspielerin wurde. Ich fand es toll, dass wir persönliche Zitate zu lesen bekommen, aus denen man leicht erkennen kann, was für eine Frau sie war. Die Illustrationen sind so elegant, dass sie das ganze Buch hindurch leuchten und dich mit einem Gefühl des Staunens zurücklassen. Wir erfahren etwas über ihr Leben als Schauspielerin, auch über ihre Freundschaft mit Alfred Hitchcock, der ihr den Spitznamen "Schneeprinzessin" gab. Später schrieb sie ihm zu, dass er ihr half, die Welt des Kinos zu verstehen.

Ich finde es toll, dass die Autorin das schwarze Kleid mit den weißen Perlen als die ikonischste Modekombination bezeichnet hat. Ich erinnere mich an Grace Kelly in diesem Outfit und sie sah so wunderschön aus. Wir erfahren mehr über ihre denkwürdigen Rollen und wie sie dem ganzen Hollywood-Glamour begegnete. Und natürlich erfahren wir auch alles über ihr Leben als Prinzessin, wie sie den Fürsten von Monaco kennenlernte und sich in ihn verliebte. Ihr Hochzeitskleid war so schön, dass es bis heute als eines der elegantesten gilt, das es je gegeben hat. Grace Kelly verließ die Welt viel zu jung und wurde auf der ganzen Welt betrauert.

Dies war eines der schönsten Bücher, die ich über Grace Kelly gelesen habe. Die Illustrationen sind elegant, sie erinnern mich an alte Modemagazine. Dies ist die Art von Buch, in dem du dich gerne verlierst und dich in ein Leben voller Aufregung und Eleganz hineinziehen lässt. Grace Kelly hat es geschafft, verschiedene Rollen zu spielen: Sie war eine Schauspielerin, eine Modeikone, eine starke Frau, eine Prinzessin und eine Mutter. Sie hörte nie auf, sich neu zu erfinden, und das Buch veranschaulicht dies auf perfekte Weise. Ein wunderbares Leben, das auf wunderbare Weise erzählt wird. Schade, dass sie so früh von dieser Welt gegangen ist. Wir werden uns immer an sie erinnern und sie nie vergessen.
