I’m the definition of a good girl—the kind that lives in my scrubs and crocs and helps save lives.
As an emergency department nurse, I’m practically married to my career, which helps, being that my heart’s been on ice since the death of my fiancé two years ago. So no, I’m not interested in love or revisiting that type of pain—not until I meet a foul-mouthed bad boy whose smile makes my yoni weep.
Harlan Banks is the president of The Spades, a ruthless MC club in the Chi. My attraction to him was instant, one of the most intense connections I’ve ever experienced. When his lips touch mine, they jumpstart my soul and make me want to expose all my scars. Being in his warm arms may be the key to thawing my icy heart.
Harlan
Being a member of The Spades took me from a boy to a savage. Now, as the leader, I live and die by the code of my to stay loyal and never give up the fight. My life’s mission is to find whoever killed my brother and put them in a body bag. Nothing is more important than my revenge—until her.
Known on the streets as “Harlan the Heartless”, I’ve witnessed the worst parts of life.
But ever since my chaos collided with her calm, I crave to experience all the good life has to offer with her by my side.
Everything changes when I learn a war is brewing with a rival gang, making it the worst time for my heart to get in the way. But when her past catches up with us, her survival becomes my only priority.
This book is hella fast paced. Like “I love you”s were exchanged within two weeks of Harlan and Clover meeting each other - with them not even interacting with one another for a week. I was like “y’all, let’s talk about this” lol. I liked Harlan and Clover though. However, by the middle of the book, I was over it 😬
When Clover’s parents got involved, I started questioning Harlan and Clover’s ages. It’s not revealed in the book but based on Clover’s previous relationship and a bit of math, she’s about 26. Girl you big grown and off your parents’ insurance with a great job, put some bass in your voice when talking to them so they understand what’s up 😂 Clover defending her relationship but then running off and crying after the first encounter had me slightly irked lol.
Also, I didn’t like Quintessa almost immediately. Her remarks regarding Quiana’s boyfriend were very rude and insulting. If that girl wants to date a white dude, it’s okay and not the end of the world. He’s not harming her or anything. I also didn’t like Quiana’s reason for not dating black men. She was insulting and rude as well. Someone should’ve checked both of them. Throw the whole family away lol.
This is the second book by K. L. Hall that I’ve read and my opinion about this book is very similar to the one that I read previously…I don’t think this book was for me. Don’t get me wrong, I like me a good little “bad boy, good girl” trope and I thought Harlan and Clover were cute in the beginning buuuuut this one just didn’t do it for me.
I’ll try out one more book by this author, but it’s looking like K. L. Hall’s writing style just doesn’t mesh well with my reading palette.
Harlan was my man and I love him. That man was walking BDE and vibes to me. The way Miss Hall wrote him chyyyyyyyyyyy. It was their connection from before they even spoke to each other and y’all it was everything to me. I loved how Harlan and Clover’s bond was built, it was so beautiful to read. I mean their connection, their communication, the feels, and the intensity of them was electrifying. Two people who each lost someone near to them and found love within each other. I loved how Clover spoke her mind and followed her heart. Harlan trusted Clover in a way that scared him yet he was all in. Loved that for them both. I knew Lux sorry behind was gonna be a problem and I low key felt like he was involved with Harlow’s death. WHEW! The unaliving of him is all I wanted. To see Harlan and Clover choose each other and continue choosing each other every single time no matter what!!!!!! Yassssssss!!! I told you Miss Hall you becoming a favorite of mines cause your work is chefs kiss and you don’t be missing. I can’t wait to eventually knock down your catalog.

Harlan and Clover met when she went to a motorcycle club hangout with her friends. They say opposites attract and it's true in this case because Harlan is the president of a motorcycle club and Clover is a nurse at a hospital in town. It was passion at first glance when they saw each other for the first time. I loved the way they came together as a couple and didn't let anyone stop them from being with each other. I couldn't stand Clover's parents because of their judging behavior. I was glad that Harlan and Clover stood their ground with them about their relationship. I also loved the way the author tied Clover's past with her deceased fiance together with Harlan's present with a rival motorcycle club. This book had passion, love, grief on both of their parts, jealousy and betrayal which made this story a worthwhile read.
Great quick read with enough drama and a good plot twist. The friendship between Clover, Quintessa, and Quiana was good but they need to learn to stick together a little bit better when they go out. Loved how Harlan showed up for Clover throughout the story, and him wanting to get in touch with his “softer side” was sweet especially with the person Clover was and how she showed up for him when his mom was in the hospital for a heart attack. Lux was crazy, and Clover should’ve been more honest with Harlan about him. Clover’s parents were a trip and were very disrespectful to Harlan and Clover’s feelings; glad Harlan and Clover were able to put them in their place because they caused a scene at the family barbecue and in the hospital.
Clover and her Bff Q, and her Bff's sister Quiana went out to a bar to hang out! Little did Clover know she would meet someone who would change her life for the better. Harlan was the president of the local motorcycle gang, when he saw Clover at the bar their eyes locked on each other and they were immediately infatuated with each other. later that night she backed into his car by accident and he was determined to get her number. He called her Lady Luck as they began to get to know each other better and feelings developed. Little did they know they had a shared frenemy! A good read!
I couldn’t stand Clover! The secret keeping almost costed lives and it could’ve been avoided! She asked him to uproot everything within weeks of meeting him and I thought that was selfish especially with his mom being sick! Then his little soft self! Neither of them grieved properly and I just didn’t like Clover! The entire situation could’ve been avoided! Then you let your parents talk to him like trash and you sided with them! Nah this book could’ve been developed a lot better then it would’ve certainly been worth 5 stars! Eh Harlan was soft.
This book was ok. Honestly I’m over the secret keeping then it blowing up in their face. Like why do these authors keep writing damn near the same story lines? The only thing I liked was that she didn’t fight her feelings for him and it wasn’t too much back and forth. But please explain why she let her parents talk to him like that and kick him out the room and she said nothing? I usually love this author books but this one not so much
The title of this book definitely describes the story within. This well written story has the drama, secrets, lies, and new love that makes a good storyline. With likeable, interesting, characters, that are both trying to deal with their grief in different ways. One working her self to deal and the other seeking revenge. This is an awesome read and worth recommending.
I felt like the story plot didn’t match with the story. I get a soft love story, but it had violence that was soft. I’ve never read anything that had violence that felt like it didn’t belong in the story!
The President of the biker club who was drug dealing gangster was soft as cotton! Either a lot was missing from story or nothing matched. Opposites attacked, I get that, but…. He was NO Thug!
It's just something about a Thug that does it for us good girls every time. Clover was no different even though she grew up privileged and went to private school.
Harlan grew up in a working class family and went to public school. This story just goes to show that love transcends all boundaries.
Harlan and Clover stood ten toes down for each other, and that's all that mattered. Very good story
Harlan & Clover! Harlan does not do love! Clover has been grieving the loss of her fiance. When these two eyes locked across the bar, I felt the instant attraction. I liked Harlan's point of view, and I liked Clover's, but something happened, and I lost the connection. These two have a good story.
Harlan was a gangster and looking for the person that killed his brother... Clover was mourning the death of the man that she was going to marry. Who would have thought that these two souls would come together, the chemistry was there and strong she soften his heart and he healed hers.
Plans are made to be altered or changed we may feel life is destined to work hard with no time for play. God will put a detour or place a crack in the road to prevent you from missing a blessing.
Cute urban love story. It was easy to follow and kept me engaged. I love a good MC story. The FMC should have put her parents in place. She was too weak for my liking but the story was good.
It's super sweet with a HEA vibe. A quick read, well-written and just you're typical romance if that's what you're into. It was an easy read. This is my first time reading from this author and it wasn't that bad.
I really liked this book from author K.L. Hall. I had to stop myself from reading it in one sitting because I was anxious to see what would happen next. I loved the chemistry between Harlan and Clover.
This was a great read. I enjoyed the drama.. Harlan and Clover were soul mates This couple loved hard. No one expected his brother s killer would end up in the mix. I recomend this book to all people who love love..
I just feel like this book wasn't for me at all. The story plot wasn't interesting to me and I didn't like the biker thing he didn't seem like a gangsta or anything to me. Also it was very fast and just didn't seem realistic. I ended up DNF the book.
I really liked this book. Sometimes a good girl just needs a bad boy to bring out the desires. Sometimes a bad boy just needs a safe peaceful place to land.
