With every fight growing harder, and evidence pointing to conspiracies beyond his imagination - Kaden decides to journey into the Madness. In that strange realm, he will find mysterious new allies and weapons.More importantly, he will begin to define the type of person he wants to be. His class is the Steel Shadow, and he's been told that he could become the King of Assassins. But what does that mean to him, and what will he have to do to achieve that?
I didn't expect to be enjoying this series as much as I am. I came from this author's other works, the grandiose Resonance Cycle, and then the heartwarming Father of Constructs series (honestly, I would DIE for Harvey). This series is definitely more aggressive than Aaron's other works, and it cranks along pretty quickly because of it. Im also really enjoying reading about a chatacter who is ALREADY a badass instead of yet another level-up story from "infant" to "superhero". 😉 Bring on book 3!
I’m not usually a fan of ‘I know the future so you have to follow the plan’ type books but this is an awesome series so far! The world building that this author does (in this series and in others is immaculate and in depth!) this isn’t you stock earth apocalypse hey I got a system let me kill a bunch of creatures to get xp! I can’t wait to see where this world goes! ‘Screw the man!’ (I’m pretty sure that’s what spite the dark really means!)
The 2nd book is a definite upgrade as we learn more about the world and the hunt, giving plenty of opportunities to get cool abilities and action scenes. As this also deals with a lot of factions, it does go off the main topic sometimes, but overall, it's a good read.
Only two books in this series up so far and the second book clearly leaves you wanting more. I feel I actually learn something in terms of how to think about and resolve problems which ads a lot to my enjoyment of this series. Nice steady leveling, powers are increasingly awesome, and no romance which is fine with me. Really looking forward to next book (wish I could preorder it).
Love this series. My favorite 2 books of the last 50+ I have read. Love the take on litrpg. The whole preventing the apocalypse idea is awesome. Characters are superb. Can't wait for book three. Please hurry.
