Bill and Jan Moeller meticulously traced and caputured on film the remnants of the Oregon Trail-surprisingly intact in many places. The resulting full-color photographs, accompanied by selected entries from emigrant diaries, evoke for the modern reader the frontier-strange, harsh, and beautiful-as the emigrants saw it.
I loved reading this book. It was simple enough, provided just the right amount of information about this historical event/time period. But I think that what really stands out about this book is the great pictures. It was interesting seeing pictures of historical sites along the trail and how one can still see the markings from wagons, etc. to this day. Good read!
The author combines gorgeous modern photography along the Oregon Trail with writings from the emigrants who traversed the Oregon Trail in the 1840s . Descriptive text relates how the pioneers handled the various locations and some of the challenges they faced along the way.
The Oregon Trail still exists, and here are the photographs to prove it. Each brilliant photo is accompanied by a quote from a pioneer's diary describing the area.
