Welcome to Port Berry, where love is just around the corner.

Sophie Moore has sworn off men. Ever since her ex-boyfriend ran off with her now-ex-friend. So the appearance of handsome newcomer Matt Rose to Port Berry doesn’t bother her. Sophie knows her heart is safe.

Even if it does flutter annoyingly every time he smiles at her.

Matt Rose has arrived in Port Berry with no money or place to stay. He’s running from a troubled past, and looking for a fresh start.

Matt gets a job with the local fisherman, Jed. But it’s Sophie, hearing Matt will be sleeping on the fishing boat, who offers him a place to stay at her home Cockle Cottage.

Now Sophie can’t escape bumping into Matt everywhere she turns. Neither can she avoid noticing the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles and how she looks forward to seeing him every day.

But she can’t risk another heartbreak.

Matt knows his feelings for Sophie are far more than just gratitude for her kindness. But can he convince Sophie he’s not the only one who needs a fresh start?

Port Berry is a wonderful setting for this gorgeous new series. Cornwall plays host to this lovely village that’s filled with some incredible people who each want to help those in need. I’ve read plenty of books with a pay-it-forward café, but I certainly don’t remember a whole community pulling together to help rehabilitate the homeless. Of course, their intentions are aimed at individuals and not at solving an entire problem for all, but certainly one tired soul at a time.
With support from her grandfather, Jed, Sophie Moore is determined to offer a taste of normality where she can, and Matt Rose is their first candidate. With the help of their whole network, Matt soon receives a host of treatments, including a haircut and counselling, and he’s humbled to have discovered a village that cares.
This is a story that brought me real joy. I have donated through a local café and support a charity that helps homeless teens, but that never felt like enough. The idea that a complete network of help and support could be created was heartwarming, even though I know it was essentially fictional. I’m aware that there are more resources available, but there sadly isn’t enough.
Sophie is a beautiful person, and her kindness is something that the world needs more of. Her grandfather is a real treasure and feels like the kind of man we would all benefit from knowing. Sophie's history with her ex is all too common, and I am relieved that he is in her past.
Matt had fallen on hard times and was homeless while struggling with alcohol addiction. His determination to become sober was admirable. He had walked from London to Port Berry after receiving a tip that he could find help in the Cornish town. Despite his challenging circumstances, Matt was a good person who just needed a break. It was interesting to read about his thoughts and experiences as he discovered a chance to break the cycle of despair.
The characters are warm, and the story is totally relatable, as I believe we have all seen rough sleepers and wished we could help, or is that just me?
I have high hopes for this series and am already looking forward to the next instalment.

My Opinion

It Made Me Laugh and Cry

Port Berry is a small village on the Cornish coast. Small it may be, but the villagers have big hearts, and are determined to help people or are homeless, or just need help getting on their feet again. Matt Rose, is one such person. He has been homeless for a long time and has struggled to overcome his drink addition. He is immediately offered a job with Jed and his granddaughter Sophie. Jed is a fisherman and Sophie runs a small shop selling the fish he catches. Sophie’s boyfriend has recently run off with her best friend, so she is not looking for a new man but Matt is very attractive. I can’t believe I have not come across this author before, I really enjoyed this book and it made me laugh and cry. I would recommend this book to everyone who likes a good read.

This is the start of a series by a new-to-Choc-Lit author, and I'm happy to report that it fits perfectly in the catalogue, even in the "old" style as it has the previously usual alternating of points of view between heroine and hero. So that's part of why I enjoyed it, but of course there's much more to love in this story, starting with Port Berry itself (a fishing village in Cornwall) and its inhabitants. Sophie has lived there all her life, but Matt has just arrived so the reader gets to meet everyone alongside him.
Now I can't wait to find out who the main characters of the next book will be, and how everyone else in the village will be involved in their story.

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

✨ My Thoughts✨

I love this author so I knew I had to read this new one asap.

The first chapter stole my heart, Matt meeting Jed and everything that was said between them and the start of a new life for Matt was everything even though Jed kind of railroaded Matt but in a very good way.

If was such a heartwarming read that I didn’t put down, it was full of ups and downs but filled with love, life and new beginnings.

Every single resident of Port Berrry deserves a book in this series and I hope they get one because they’re all such good characters with interesting back stories and futures I can see happening.

The Hub just what’s needed

My husband used to work in a coffee shop that sort of did the same sort of things as The Hub. It would support people getting information to move their lives on for the better. He’d help them apply for housing, he’d help read CVs or job applications. He’d sort out volunteering positions to help people get work experience that they could then put on their CVs.

Basically I loved the story. I was sure I knew that one character was up to mischief and I definitely shouted in my head at Matt a few times! What a plonker!

One of my favourite authors so I was excited to start a new series of hers and Port Berry doesn’t disappoint.

A lovely cosy romance with drama and giggles and moments to pull at your heartstrings.
A beautiful and scenic village is the setting for this book as we read Matt and Sophie’s story and what a lovely story it was.
Matt’s journey was an eye opener for sure and Sophie has lead quite a life already too.
Lots of other characters who are equally as lovely and hopefully make an appearance in future books in the series!
I can’t wait to start book 2!

Absolutely lovely

I loved reading this book in fact I couldn't put it down. It highlighted the struggles of today with the energy bills and rise in prices of food and just living. There is a reason why so many people are homeless and each person has their own story. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

WELCOME TO PORT BERRY by K.T. Dady.
Book 1 of port berry.
I did like the cover and blurb. This was a slow starter, but I soon got into it. I did like Jed and how he was with Matt. Sophie grew on me. This was an easy read once I got into it. I did like it when Matt and Jed did the swim. I loved the ending, too. 4*.

This is a good book. In Port Berry the residents set up a Hub for homeless people. The first person the Hub helped was Matt. He met Sophie when her grandfather brought him by to meet. Sophie’s grandfather was helping Matt with a place to live and a job on his boat. There was an instant attraction when Matt and Sophie meet. They each had issues but together they worked them out and fell in love.

A nice easy read. Didn't take too much concentration. I liked the main characters, but was sorry there were some parts I skipped because I'm not interested in tarot cards or psychics. I think there should be some kind of warning in the description if they're putting the occult into romance books like this; it doesn't need to be there.

A nice story overall about a small village and their efforts to support those in need. The conversations are a bit stilted, but I enjoyed the story enough to overlook it.

Full disclosure - I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

What an inspiring read. It had a good neighbourly slant, entwined in an unlikely romance which blooms. Hidden issues among the other characters brings intrigue to the story. A must read, thoroughly enjoyed reading.

2nd chances.

It was a lovely read. There are chances and choices out there that addicts can take to ensure their lives change for the better.
It’s up to them to fight their demons, take those chances, make those choices and nobody can do it for them.

Great theme really enjoyable story

I enjoyed the storyline. Showed a lot of home truths about the homeless and others suffering through no fault of their own. Very thought provoking in a good way. Well written plot that had some good twists to it. Makes you think.

Second chance romance with a stunning book cover

Homeless Matt Rose is a recovering alcoholic and arrives in Port Berry after taking a year to walk from London to Cornwall. In Port Berry he find a community who show him kindness and support, they help him to regain his self-respect and Matt ultimately discovers love.

An emotional story oozing with compassion.
