Cloak of the Vampire #2

Blood of the Gods

Rate this book
From the creator of the Millennium Wolves series comes the heart-stopping sequel to Cloak of the Vampire, the epic romantasy set in a brutal world of bloodthirsty and power-hungry vampires.

Aileen Henderson didn’t choose to die. That choice was stolen from her, brutally, at the hands—and lips—of a monster. With a singular kiss, Lord Ragnor Rayne condemned the twenty-one-year-old to an eternity she never wanted. And a future she refuses to accept.

Despite the fury now coursing through her veins, Aileen fights the pull of attraction to Ragnor, a need with a will of its own. But now, she’s determined to make her way without the vampire lord’s help.

Carving out her new existence, Aileen finds allies, even family, among the ruthless and competitive vampire leagues. But untold dangers abound, and soon, Aileen encounters new and more evil monsters.

When ancient, all-powerful gods dredge up nightmares from her past, Aileen discovers she has an important role to play in this world. And if she can learn to control her powers and her desires, she may find a way to survive both her enemies and Ragnor Rayne.

read this one while commuting to uni.
Honestly, it was a fun read! Definitely entertaining and intriguing.

warning: Not meant for everyone. The plot is interesting but gets dark. There are mentions of cults, abuse and more. Check the trigger warnings before reading.

4.75/5

only reason im knocking this down .25 is bc the smut is a lil cheugy and kinda icky BUT and i mean BUT the plot freakin PLOTS!!! you have gods, cults, vampires, dreamscape dimensions, and completely new and imaginative vampire lore (which i’m always on the hunt for).. it’s GEWD yall!! it’s SAUR GEWD!

and just bc, sapir, the author, says she values criticism i will state the parts that i thought were kinda gross in the smut scenes-
. the word “loins”
it feels like a word my friend’s memaw would say ykwim?
. the overuse of the word “pussy”
it’s not a bad word but just too much of it and it’s better when a man uses it. when the fmc constantly says it it’s kinda gross
. squirting/wetness- also not bad but the girl was flooding the titanic ALL OF THE TIME. let’s pull back a little but not completely. like maybe she can waterlog ragnor one time per book but more than that feels like the mafia is collecting debts

overall i can see world-building and plot execution are sapir’s strengths so the smut that didn’t hit didn’t really bug me bc it was really hot most of the time. and i was just so invested in the wild rollercoaster of the story that i didn’t care if the book had smut at all. overall it was very easy to overlook the parts i didn’t personally like. all in all my dislikes didn’t influence my reading experience too much which i really appreciated.

I CAN’T WAIT FOR BOOK 3!!

This was much better than the first book. While the Cloak of the Vampire started like a wattpad novel before it switched gears and finally hooks you in the 2nd half with plot and spice, this one is engaging all the way through with twists and turns scattered throughout. Lots of angsty, rough spice. Definitely check your triggers as this is a dark paranormal romance. The narrators did a great job, but the audio quality wasn’t the best.

Plot Had Potential, But Too Emotionally Immature

I tried so hard. The first book had so much potential and love the world building, but the main female character is too flaky. She’s a simpering, pathetic mess one moment and “strong-willed” and determined to not let that big mean, bully of a master vampire control her the next. The main male character is the same, determined not to let her use her womanly wiles to trick and confuse him into having big boy feelings while also just knowing there’s something so special about her that calls to him.

As the book progresses, the two of them appear to have no real loyalty or genuine interest in the other as they still know absolutely nothing about each other of substance since they have been bed buddies only, and are simply fighting their own selfishness and insecurities, internally and externally, the entire time.

I can only compare it to listening to two junior high schoolers alternate between bullying each other, whining to their friends, and sending letters asking if they want to be boyfriend and girlfriend in private (circle yes or no). Very immature emotionally and annoying to read and listen to.

J’ai adoré le premier tome de la série…. Mais le deuxième est plus excellent!! Plus sombre, plus mystérieux, les personnages évoluent d’une magnifique façon!

J’AI BESOIN de la suite!!!

The plot is getting interesting so I’ll give it 0.5 more stars than the first book lol. But so much of the writing still made me roll my eyes - like, why would a 21 year old who mostly drops F-bombs suddenly say “those BLASTED gods!” Cmon.
The twists in this book fit in a little better with the story I thought too, but were still solved a little too quickly and conveniently IMO. And so many scenes just made me cringeeeeee BUT all to say, I will be looking forward to reading the next book, mostly out of annoyance but also because I am now intrigued to see what’s going to happen with a few of the cliff hangers at the end

Thank you, Netgalley and Sapir A. Englard for the eARC!

Rating - 4/5 🌟
Spice - 🌶. 5

I was so happy that this book was available for an ARC, with how book one ended! I drove right in and finished it within 1 day!

I felt like this book was a little slower than book one, but I think it's because we are driving into a different league and learning a little more about Aileen.

However, this book ended strong and still left me hanging on the mysterious Aileen and the Morrow Gods! Book 3 can't come soon!

Loved reading the mesmerizing and riveting second story in the Cloak of the Vampire series. When Lord Ragnor Rayne does not purchase Aileen at the auction, Aileen is devastated and has to make the most of it with a broken heart under another vampire lord. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read captivating story. Can't wait to read the next story in the series by the phenomenal author, Sapir A. Englard!

Comparing this book to the first one, there are things that are better, and there are things that are not. One thing that is better, is that this book was definitely written more like an actual book, and not just like something you would find on WattPad. However, the pacing is really off and I found myself not really able to grab onto anything to keep my attention. Things go really slow for the whole first half of the book, even a little bit passed halfway, and until the reunion happens, there's not really anything notable.

The romance was lackluster in the first book, and it did continue into this book. We know that in the first book, Ragnor gave Aileen the imprint and turned her into a vampire because he couldn't control himself and, instead of being angry for long about her entire life being destroyed and with the potential of being sold to another vampire league, she sleeps with him. Constantly. Now, he didn't buy her in the auction even though he told her that he would, but she's still soooo obsessed with a man who has done nothing for her except for sleep with her. In fact, he's ruined her life more than anything. Ragnor actually pays to have someone else uncover Aileen's past, because the two don't actually know anything about each other. I just didn't really like either of them.

The introduction of Aileen's powers is something that I found interesting in this book and I hope that this is explored more, as well as Aileen's backstory and the Morrow Gods. Due to my curiosity, I may check out the next book in this series.

Blood of the Gods was way better than I expected—holy hell! After struggling through the first book of the series, I was unsure about continuing, but this one absolutely delivered. In the first book, I found the mysterious dark backstory of Aileen, the FMC, intriguing, and the concept of the vampire leagues and the enigmatic Morrow Gods was fascinating. The story left so many questions, especially about whether the Morrow Gods were rooted in truth or more of a cult-like fanaticism. But Blood of the Gods dives deep into all those themes and unravels them in the most satisfying way.

While there are still a few lingering questions, I'm trusting that the answers will come in the third book. What really caught my attention was the character of Tansy. I would love to see a side novella about her—she reminds me of Luna Lovegood, but with a much darker past. She’s definitely a character I want to explore more. And then there’s Ragnor—his history before becoming a vampire lord is something I'm dying to learn more about too.

This book was a refreshing, captivating read compared to book one. I devoured it in less than 24 hours, and I’m now completely hooked on where this series is going. Can’t wait to see how everything unfolds!

The plot is decent and has kept me interested in the series. The characters could use some more development. They seem like they were close to being fully developed but the FMC doesn't really have a developed personality. Sometimes it jumps around too much or it'll bring something up and then later say something about it again like it wasn't mentioned before. Some parts I found myself skimming through and I do think that trigger warnings should be including at the beginning for some of the content. Some of it seemed too childish for the maturity level/age of the characters. I will read the last book though

A good Vampire story!

This Vampire world brought in different magical characters which gave the story an interesting twist! I read books 1 and 2 back to back enjoying the entire duology. Any 🤔mysteries or questions which left me hanging in book 1 were all covered in book 2👍🏾 Aileen’s friends are memorable; and the sexual content between Aileen and Lord Ragnar, Oh my word!
If Sapir Englard added a book 3 it would be great to find out about those Morrow Gods - If they existed 🤷🏽‍♀️.

this was much more enjoyable and interesting that the first book. the plot was more coherent and less reminiscent of fanfiction. i also enjoyed the slight grovel and regret from ragnor. aileen was less annoying, as were all the characters actually. they were written well. the cult mystery is very exciting, can’t wait for book 3! however, slightly confused as to why aileen assumes she will be blamed and hated for what she did as a child.

This book starts off with Natalie, a 13-year-old girl and Her father by the lake.
Doing some kind of ritual? So i'm not sure if there are witches but they're praying to their higher gods. When there is a knock at the door at midnight they have no friand. when poor little Natalie sees its cops. They arrest her father for rape and kidnapping. Did natalie really know her father was doing all that in their house in the basement? Natalie sees her father in jail, he says that they are the last children of kahil And to carry on the legacy. Natalie Not as big into believing in the morrow gods as her father is.her father had asked to get the book. But she wants nothing more to burn it because it's brought nothing but pain and the thing she's witnessed and he wants her to continue doing what he did.
A nice couple mr. and mrs hazard have come to foster Natalie. But she had asked to have her name changed for a fresh start to go by aileen henderson. here we got to see a little bit of the back story about aileen's life growing up.

Aileen has now been sold to the highest bidder(lord Atalon)by Ragnor. She hates him and wish she had time to tell him that and collect her belongings. She didn't realize that she had the power to stop time, She only learn that at the auction's performance, but lord atalon doesn't know.
Each lord make sure they pick the best vampires that have the best skills to be in their league.
She arrives at her new league And has been given three different options for a job. Although she hates Ragnor, Deep down she was hoping he would pick her to stay there because they've been together and she loves him.
Ragnor is talking to His friend eliza And even she noticed he's been off since the auction because he will not admit how much he likes aileen. He knows many things about her past, And his family in the past has killed thec The cult her father belonged too. I wonder why at the auction aileen would try to summon the morrow gods.(the childrenof the kahil and vampires are enemies) But Ragnor has doubt that aileen is actually one of the children because they were wiped out. He has acquired one of the three only copies of the book tefat, Which I believe is the book that aileen's father wanted her to get when he was arrested.
Ragnor's friend eliza came into aileen dream to see what her power is and she told her what book to check out in the library to help her practice, eliza wants to trust her.
lord atalon has a thing for aileen and she knows it and wants nothing to do with another lord to be thrown out like trash later. She was kidnapped When she was in the other league and she's not sure Atalon knows who did it , but they hate vampires.
This waiting list to become a vampire. How do such humans know about it and want to be put on it. All I know is that it's an honor to be hidden the imprint not every one make the cut to be vampires. Ragnor had 2 Newbies that had raped a woman.
And he's punishing him by making them go to the cellars He said he would tolerate a lot, but not what they did.Now he's on his way to talk to the nurse eva and the victim Only for the victim to say it was the morrow gods.

I know the vampires are scared of the morrow god because they are more powerful. Ragnor has just realized that aileen is a threat if he doesn't have her but loses his cool,With eliza saying it's not because he loves her.
Aileen and her friend Isora Needed fresh air.So they escaped their building to go get food which is weird that vampires still need to eat food along with blood. It's funny they both inhaled the food but ended up making themselves sick.
I'm really liking their friendship,It is a true friendship not like with Cassidy. They both come from shady backgrounds.the night has gone from dining and dashing to stealing a car and now being followed By no other than the lord atalon. I'm not sure what is so special about aileen yet,but it's has to be her power making all the lords want her.
I not only is the jinn able to suck the lifeblood out of the vampire but now other vampires can do it too. There is so much drama going on.Ragnor showed up to stay at the league for one week, with eliza Not to mentionHer friend was sent away to who knows where and had to agree to a date to see her. Just him being there is cause so much emotions, Neither of them are over each other. Will she give him just one month to win her back? Of course but she's not going to make it easy. Lord Alton has shown his true colors as to why he want to have aileen and she has found were her friend Isora went to be a bloodslave. It's kind of weird that the gifted and sacred vampires have to feed on them to survive.and her friend Doesn't have long in the position she has.
Ragnor returned to his league only to find out that his most trusted lieutenant magnus was worse for wear. Magnus was gone two weeks and he looks deaths door. Which shouldn't be possible because he is a sacred that go months without feeding.
(So far this book is an easy read but sometimes repetitive. The author has a way with words that makes the vision come to life.)
Just like with vampires there is common one and high one,the same for jinns that attacked magnus. There's so much tension between the leagues it all leads back to aileen.
So the only way to save Aileen's friend is to give herself to to Lord Alton.Who didn't see that coming. He's only doing that To get back at ragnor.
All kinds of chaos broke out at alton's art exhibits and got to see first hand at what aileen can do with her power Now he's trying to kidnap her.
Then to learn that Ragnar has 2 types of powers one that's helpful, one can kill him. Him pushed himself so far that he might not make it. I feel like alton's power has to do with bringing pictures to life.( His paintings are like fortune telling He doesn't know who he's painting it for,But when they find the true owner , they disappear and he can see everything about the person) Lord Alton is literal garbage. He is so sadistic he made a deal with their enemies for aileen.
But ragnor came to the rescue and saved her, But he seemed to be Some kind of creature He looked so different.but his powers play on emotions though his aurora.
So with aileen tasting regnors blood to get stronger. She's Likely to become addicted to it,she likes the way it taste it has a stronger taste than animals and common.
( There is one full chapter of spice So beware when reading. I would give it two peppers rating.)
Aileen and regnor are now on their way to the lion's den aka the jinni To save her
friend.the jinni are not ment to be in the world so why do they want vampires. They're plan would have worked if only she could stop time longer. She did get her 2 friends outside. But before she fell to the ground she got hit from behind. Once again she was being kidnapped,And
Ragnor is not happy about it.the jinni know she is a the last child of kahil And she is not there enemie.
Ragner is usually calm And cool with is emotions.he knows how to control them but when it comes to aileen all that goes out the window. And aileen is usually not needy Or emotional but when it comes to Ragnor she is.
With ragnor knowing the truth about her past he wants her to talk about it but she wants it to stay buried. She fears he will reject her if she really knew how much a monster she was. With Lord Alton wanting his member back AKA aileen, Ragnor is willing to go to war. I like that aileen is finally being honest with regnor about her past and explain it to him and expecting him to leave. But she doesn't know that he is the cause of the Extinction of her people. The horrors She saw and did Was not her fault,Her father was a bad man all fir the name of these goids they worshiped. And now it kind of makes sense that the girl that was Assaulted by the vampires Could possibly be the one that got away from aileen father, thats why she's so messed up.
Ragnarok is eleven hundred years old vampire and have done many bad things so he's not judging.

So many questions left unanswered and it ends on a cliff hanger. The author did a really good job at writing a well read book. I'll have to wait to see how it ends in the next book.

I enjoyed the book.

Interesting twist and turns. As you go on with the book. Even I didn't see it coming.

Atalon for example. He seemed like a kind and caring lord. Appearing to be in love with Aileen Henderson. And having a rivalry with Ragnor for her it seems. Like their setting up a love triangle. However, as the book goes on you find out the truth. He's a monster. Everything he did was an act. He revealed to use vampires for 'blood slaves' to feed himself and the gifted vampires in his lead. Sucking their lifeblood. Which results in a vampire that Aileen befriended in his league....nearly on the break of death. I HATED him the more I read the book. You want this guy dead.

You also learn there's a food chain. A circle of life. So what hurts and can kill vampires. Beings called the Jinn. They can suck the lifeblood of vampires...and it's the reason that the Vampire Leagues are underground. So they can't be detected. It's the reason their not allowed outside because they can sense their presence. And we see how dangerous they are as the book goes on.

Aileen Henderson bitterness to Ragnor Rayne... is like hot and cold water. She still loves him...and yearns for him...but she just tries to force herself to hate Ragnor. I felt their relationship was a bit rushed....though Aileen isn't so willing to forgive him and trying to push him away. Ragnor eager to prove how much he loves her.....ESPECIALLY when she gets captured, and Atalon was willing to let the Jinn 'burrow' her....I did find it sweet. But they too quickly to me give in and sleep together once she's safe.

Aileen power also explained from the previous book at the auction. She wasn't a common at all. As she assumed. She's revealed to be a SACRED. Higher up than the Gifted Vampires. As they possess magical power. And the chances of a newbie vampire that was presumed to be a common become a sacred. Zero. She was a sacred the moment she turned. So, she in pare with the lords.

And because of Aileen's past as a human...because of her father and the religion she was religion she was forced to learn. As it was generations are family. It mixes in with her being a sacred when she became a vampire. So she is seen as dangerous. Namely because the Jinn want her....enemies of the vampire. And she could summon the Marrow Gods I believe they were called.

And in the end Ragnor and Atalon are going to war. With Eliza...who betrays Ragnor by going on her own record to want to kill Aileen...and she's working with the Jinn as well. The fact she seemed more like she was willing to help her with her powers....as least to test her. Earlier in the book. But she became more of a threat....that she needs to be eliminated in her eyes. As the book ends.

It's crazy. But it's not disappointing.

I love these books and can't wait for Book 3-Dance of the Phoenix.

Ugh. The first book wasn’t great but this one I didn’t even finish. The first half of the book was just…. Boring. Then things finally pick up but barely and now I have zero interest to keep reading. It’s all “omg I want to fuck ragnor rayne” to “I hate ragnor rayne and he’s not getting me back that easy”. Then you have ragnor who gets an epiphany and all the sudden he “needs” Aileen 🙄
It was like whiplash trying to read this book.
The author needs to broaden her horizon when it comes to words and phrases. I can’t tell you how many times I read “what with”. When phrases are constantly repeated… I start to notice and start to get really irritated.
I feel like half the book could’ve been taken out just from the reminders in this book. Constantly reiterating something she had already told us in the book. Ugh. I won’t be continuing the series.

Loved it! This delves deeper into the questions from book 1 and we find out a bit more of both Ragnor and Aileen’s past. We still don’t know what “horrible thing” she did to Logan… I’m doubting that’ll ever be answered. We do find out about her childhood though. Very different from the other Vampire series I’ve read and I’m really enjoying it! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

This series isn’t so bad. I like the fact it has more day to day life then just none stop fighting that some books have.

I have a couple unanswered questions:
1. Aileen’s martial arts that she knows, how does that correlate to the Morrow Gods? Her martial art skills were briefly shown in book one and then never brought up again. I for sure thought she was going to do that in the auction.

2.Logan got mad at her for doing the martial arts thing on him since she promised him when they were humans to not do it again, why did she do it the first time?

3. Do Logan’s parents know he is a vampire or do they think he is missing?

4 Alton’s powers, there was a painting in book 1 that was a red head, the red seemed to be resemble Ragnar’s lover, so is it and does that mean Alton knows Ragnar’s story?

5. Eliza and that L dude, what’s their history?

6. What’s the point of a league? It seems like the league less would be fine on their own. A couple can band together and create their own group.

7. What’s Eliza’s powers? Is she a league less? I got the gist that she can hop into someone’s dreams but what happened later in the book seems more than that

8. Does Aileen get to be a Lady since she has powers? I mean if she wanted her own league.

I was really disappointed with this book. I felt like the first book was setting up a complex world that had so many possibilities and this book felt like a complete collapse of what the first book was building to. The plot? Didn’t tie in to the first book and felt like a draft of an idea.

The pining and inability to cope with the loss of the relationship felt out of character. In the first book you learn how she handled her father and the loss of her childhood love and yet this was her reaction??? It also was repetitive and felt like reading a whine fest for the first 3/4 of the book.
