A book that covers the ethics, family dynamic, holidays, culture, and religious practices of Muslims. The book even has a bonus section where it hits on the way Islam views other groups/ religions. But the book, despite being so short, was at times very repetitive. For example, the author has a chapter breaking down the pillar of charity in Islam, and then brings it up again in consecutive chapters. I also don’t like how the author glamorizes everything and doesn’t critique anything. However, despite the cons, this book is still a great introduction to Muslim culture and religion. The author even takes time to define various Arabic terms that are prominent in the religion.
This book is a valuable resource for promoting interfaith dialogue. The author does a commendable job of demystifying islamic beliefs, rituals, and cultural nuances, including the significance of the Quran, the role of Prophet Muhammad. P.BU.H. and the 5 pillars of Islam. Eaton presents the book in an unbiased manner, fostering understanding and respect for its followers
I found this very interesting and so insightful. As someone who it’s Christian this really opened my eyes and I found myself completely emersed into the culture and its belief. Even tho this was a very short book it really dug deep into understanding of the religion in an easy manner and the misconceptions people associate with it. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Is because some context was very repetitive.
By now if you have read any of my book reviews, you know I am a fan of David Eaton. He takes world religions and breaks them down into an easy guide. Gives you understanding and appreciation for religions you are familiar with expanding your knowledge.
