Faeries Don't Forgive

Rate this book
Getting back to the underworld and saving her dad should be easier with the Boggleman gone. However, Aunia can't pick what's more in her way.

Is it the Da Vennen cult and packs of wererats hunting her for imprisonment or death? Her ongoing conflict with Mathias wanting to hide her away? Or maybe it's herself since what she has learned, she cannot un-know.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sylvan Sword Press for the E-arc of Faeries Don't Forgive by TF Burke.
Pub date 25 February 2025
This is my honest opinion of the book;

I enjoyed this book more than the first book. The book leaned more to fantasy than romance which I loved. The story was plot driven, medium paced. Though sometimes it got a bit confusing. There were so many different types of fae. It made the read very interesting. The chemistry between Aunia and Matthias was so heart wrenching.

My favorite part of the book was the climax and ending though. It was literally mind boggling.. it makes me wish I could read the next book write away.

Escalating Enchantment, Thrills, and Romance
ARC REVIEW

"Bursts of flame landed on nearby hay bales, contrasting the now pitch-dark night. Fire caught like candle wicks on the colorful buntings. Sizzled. Sparked. Roared with smoky sweetness from the hay."

This mesmerizing prose captures the ongoing action and adventure faced by 16-year-old faerie-blooded Aunia and 17-year-old Pegasi flyer Mathias in T.F. Burke’s Faeries Don’t Forgive , the second volume of the Heart of the Worlds Series. A blend of Thriller, Romance, and epic Fantasy, this novel brims with rich lore, magical faerie creatures both good and evil, and complex human characters you’ll love to love—or love to hate. Though written for Young Adults, its depth and intensity make it a compelling read for fantasy lovers of all ages.

Aunia and Mathias find themselves at the heart of an escalating war between co-joined human and faerie worlds, created by the deity Damas. According to prophecy, his shattered heart will lead to the destruction of one world or the other unless it is repaired by seven magic-wielding individuals. Aunia and Mathias are committed to making this happen.

Yet powerful forces seek to prevent this. The ancient, fanatical order of monkish knights, da Vennen, crusades to eradicate all faerie life. At the same time, formidable dark faeries seek to wipe out humanity. Though Aunia and Mathias vanquished their ringleader, the Boggleman, in an aerial battle between Pegasi and dragon-like Wyvern at the end of Faeries Don’t Lie, their victory was incomplete. Some of the magical seven remain imprisoned in his bewitched cavern—along with Aunia’s father, who sacrificed his freedom to prevent her capture.

Aunia’s father’s past raises questions she can neither understand nor ignore. A roving band of traveling musicians may hold answers—not only about him but about the mother she never knew. Meanwhile, her budding magical abilities have drawn dangerous attention from both da Vennen and the dark fae.

As if the war weren’t enough, Mathias is haunted by uncertainty. His flyer comrades’ fates remain unknown after the Boggleman’s final attack. His commander’s motives are suspect. And he is caught in an impossible vise between his noble family’s expectations and his growing love for Aunia. But keeping this secret from her may cost more than he is willing to pay.

With Faeries Don’t Forgive , T.F. Burke delivers a thrilling continuation of her Heart of the Worlds Series, blending epic battles, political intrigue, and deeply personal stakes. Fans of high fantasy, star-crossed romance, and intricate worldbuilding will find themselves swept away in this tale where trust is fragile, power is perilous, and destiny is a burden too heavy to bear.

Faeries Don’t Forgive picks up right where Faeries Don’t Lie left off. Aunia and Mathias are in Tamore, Mathias’s home country and the country of Aunia’s mother. I like this sequel because it both zooms out and zooms in, in almost a mirror of book one. In book one, the setting is limited to Aunia’s village and the lands surrounding it. In book two, we zoom out and see more of the worlds of Ahnu-Endynia as we explore Tamore in the human world and take a trip to the Court of Air and Spring in the faery world. Along with those travels, the lore expands, as does the political intrigue as we encounter other cultures and the complicated politics of Tamore. Indeed, a major antagonist for book two is the Da Vennen, a military religious order. Meanwhile, the conflict zooms in. While the main series conflict surrounding the prophecy is ever present and seeds are planted for future books, it takes a slight backseat to the relationship conflict between Mathias and Aunia. Both characters’ wounds come to the forefront as they navigate their relationship, and both characters have solid character growth.

As far as sequels go, Faeries Don’t Forgive is among the best I’ve read. It had the world expansion I expect from the second book in a series while delivering more than I expected in character development. I can see where the relationship between Aunia and Mathias will continue to provide conflict, but they’ve also now done the work for their relationship to be more believable. While I love a good insta love, I need more to carry a relationship through a series. T.F. Burke provided that. As for the main conflict, Faeries Don’t Forgive expanded the lore enough to introduce new threads without overwhelming me. I can see that we’re in for an intricate plot as the series continues, but this sequel showed that I can trust T.F. Burke to handle the plot threads in a way that weaves a story with clues I can pick up and put together without getting lost.

I need book three in my hands yesterday.

"Faeries Don't Forgive" by T.F. Burke was a truly gripping read that kept me constantly engaged with its non-stop drama. From the moment the story kicks off, there's a real sense of urgency and one challenge after another arises for the characters. Burke masterfully creates a world where something exciting or perilous is always happening, ensuring there's never a dull moment. You'll be kept on your toes wondering what obstacle they'll face next!

Alongside all the thrilling events, there's a slow burn romance that develops in a really compelling way. The connection between the central romantic interests isn't immediate or straightforward. Instead, their feelings unfold gradually, often amidst the backdrop of the ongoing drama. This slow development allows you to really see the nuances of their relationship and root for them as they navigate their feelings and the challenges around them. The tension and anticipation build beautifully as their connection deepens.

Burke does a great job of weaving these two elements together. The constant drama provides a high-stakes environment, while the slow burn romance offers a captivating emotional thread that keeps you invested in the characters' journeys. If you enjoy a fantasy novel with a plot that's always moving and a romance that unfolds with a satisfyingly slow and steady pace, "Faeries Don't Forgive" is definitely worth checking out. It's a captivating adventure with a developing relationship at its heart.

Thank ypy to Netgally for the chance to eread this ARC!

You know those fantasy novels that are worth a spare notebook because annotating inside the book might ruin it for your friends, but you need the notes for yourself? This is one of them. And I do not necessarily mean that in a good or bad way.

Faeries Don't Forgive is, I feel, a very well-done High Fantasy novel that hits world building and adventure hard. There's a lot of different fae and dynamics worth keeping track of in one medium paced book. I appreciate the way romance felt very back burner in this. I feel that it's going to grasp more people's attention in a way similar to that of The Cruel Prince.

With have read the first book right before diving into this one, I had hoped some of the confusion that sometimes comes with famtasy books could have been avoided, but there were times where I found myself feeling as though I was trudging through to understand things or having to go back and forth between a couple of chapters to get quick reminders. However, that could be more of a me issue than a book issue. I feel those things come very naturally with high fantasy, and sometimes, some series click faster than others. Unfortunately, this wasn't that series for me. I do think there is going to be a great audience for book 2, but I will admit, I did enjoy Faeries Don't Lie more than I did Faeries Don't Forgive.

‘Fairies Don’t Forgive’ is the second book in the Heart of the Worlds series by TF Burke. I was delighted to receive an Advance Reading Copy and am so glad I lucked out here. Like Book One, ‘Fairies Don’t Lie’, I love the spunky lead character, Aunia, and Pegasus rider Mathias who clearly loves her a lot, even when they disagree. This is the kind of story that will appeal to young adults who are determined to find their own place in this world, against all odds that were stacked against them in the past. Though I’m not a young adult anymore, long from it, I was still captivated with the story. The Fairies books belong next to the classics everyone wants to read. The Heart of the World Books are aptly named because they have heart. Aunia triumphs against great odds because she has the heart and the spirit to find people (and fairies who are pretty dangerous) to fight her world’s monsters, including the fears inside her. TF Burke is an excellent writer. She takes us into a beautifully believable world with characters and dangers around every corner. The Heart of the Worlds books are about the magic that lies in the heart. Magic that’s worth befriending. Magic that brings out the personal gifts we have to deal with a problem.

TF Burke once again enchants with the second volume of her Heart of the Worlds series. Set in a rich framework of world-lore reminiscent of Lord of the Rings or Wheel of Time, the journey of Aunia and Matthias continues. With their romance just beginning to simmer and a growing number of foes intent on stopping them, the pair press on in their quest to save both worlds—one fairy, one human—from a prophesy only one world will survive. To complicate matters, Aunia and Matthias find many of their preconceptions are suspect. Enemies, from disreputable rovers to wererats, prove to be allies, and some old allies are starting to look like enemies. Deep secrets continue to test family ties and friendships. And to make matters worse, Matthias’ desire to protect Aunia only serves to make her more impulsive. But to survive and rescue her father, Aunia has to grow up quickly--learning how to control the power of her magic but also how to find even greater empowerment from trust and forgiveness.
This series is suitable for all readers (YA and NA), or even advanced readers in middle-grade. It’s spice-free, beautifully written, and full of relatable and engaging characters.

This is the perfect sequel to "Faeries Don't Lie." An epic high fantasy tale of a multi realm world with every faerie being you can think of. The relationships fostered in book 1 grow and develop throughout this book.

Aunia and Mathias feel like a real genuine couple. The compromises and the challenges that they face and have to deal with really do make them feel like a couple from the real world, bringing a true depth to the book.

There are battle scenes that have you on the edge of your seat, as well as insane twists of betrayal from loyal companions (yes I'm on about a lizard)

Burke has also fostered an amazing street team that I'm proud to be a part of. The community she has created is so welcoming and helpful, which I think is a big part of the brilliance of Burkes ability.

If you are not used to high fantasy works, please read the glossary that is provided. Burke has put in so much work to make this book as authentic as possible.

No spoilery details in case you've not read book 1. But go grab book 1 first anyway.
This book is a beautifully written fantasy story that is intensely detailed without making you feel like you're bogged down. The world building and character growth comes naturally instead of in pages of exposition that take you out of the story.
The author has a talent for writing likeable, but realistically flawed characters who you root for instead of getting fed up with tropey behaviours.
And I love the relationships between the pegasi and their riders. It was different than what you usually get when a book has the magical creature/rider pairing.
May just be me, but my nerdy little herbalist heart is in love with the use of actual legitimate herbalism for wound care. No magic or plants created for the world so that it works regardless. It's a small thing, but shows the care the author puts into every small detail of her books.

WOW! This was a fabulous read. the author picks up where she left off in book 1 and i loved every minute of it! the world building continues from the first book, and though it is extensive, it felt like i was right there in the story! the characters are lovable, and some not quite as much (which means she created a great story). i really like all the mythology around this read. i don’t want to give out spoilers, so i will say this was a fun, exciting, whimsical at times, great story in my opinion. though ya its fabulous for those who want an adventure like none other!. it was very well written, an awesome story about Fae. this book was given to me as an advance copy, my opinions and thoughts are my own! i cannot wait to read the next in the series! if you like a fantasy adventure this book is a great one. i found it to be outstanding, and flew through it. i couldn’t put it down once it was started! if you love fae, fantasy, and a lovely story then this adventure is for you!

TF Burke is such a fun writer.
World-building & Readability are certainly her best things.

Faeries Don't Forgive gave us a chance to further explore Aunia's background. How her parents ended up putting her in the position she's in. We got a bit more of the world-building, background information.

Aunia is coming into her power.
She's become more aware of what Mathias & Keston are currently going through.
She's still unshakably determined but willing to negotiate with them on what the plan is to do so. Along with stopping the Boggleman and Da Vennen. They're being confronted with not only the past of the characters but of the worlds they play a role in. The many antagonists & the complexity of their mission.

A great sequel to the first book leading to answers but also more questions.
I look forward to seeing how the third installment wraps things up.

This was an amazing continuation of the story and it picks up right where the first book (Faeries don't lie) ends. This book gives us a new realm, Tamore and weaves a picture that's detailed and vivid. Aunia has been searching for answers about her parents past and who she is, now she gets a chance to uncover those secrets but is it knowledge that she can handle? She also has to find a way to save her father now that the boggleman is gone but can she do it now that she's swept into more issues from this realm, better yet will Mathias even let her? This book was better than the first in my opinion.

I was given an ARC to read.
The second book of the Heart of the Realms series picks up right where book one leaves off. There is more magic, action, political issues, and secrets. The relationship between Aunia and Mathias is strenuous, but tangible. There are more fae, both good and evil. The growth of the characters is amazing. And the world building is intricately woven throughout the story. I really enjoyed this book and I am ready for the next one!

I thought this story was amazing, and it was a very good sequel to the first book. I felt this book followed perfectly to continue from the ending of the second book, and I loved the growing dynamic between the main characters. I also loved how realistic the battles seemed, as well as the emotions shown by the characters in the dual POV.

More magic, more creatures, more adventure. It's a good thing this is a series. I'm excited to see where our young heroes go next. This story isn't a light read, however. You have to pay attention or you might miss something. The worldbuilding is extensive. No complaints from me, though.

I kept checking the number of pages near the end 😬
This series is very PG (due to violence). I would recommend this for a YA who loves world building and wants the focus more on adventure than romance!

We get to know the loveable characters more, learn about new types of fae, and meet some new characters as well!

Aunia and Mathias are questing together! Their overall goals are the same but their priorities and plan vary greatly! They must choose to compromise or work separately; while trying to stay safe.
Between the Boogleman, Da Vennen colt, Wererats, father's imprisonment, and missing people (mostly Fae blood); their confusion is understandable.
Where to start and how to best save both worlds, human and fae.

I enjoyed this book more than the first book and cannot wait to see how the plot finishes!

Whew Aunia’s journey continues and let’s just say it has picked up and once again the ending has left me reeling. Yelling “what, that’s it, that’s how we leave it” oh so many unanswered questions, so many questions I have of how everything has played out so far and where we are left. The action really picks up towards the end of the book and really ties the whole thing together as well as the romance development that I am here for! I’m so excited for the next book and I can’t wait to read what happens next because like I said I need all the answers to my questions of what happens because I’m left reeling! Please go read book 1 and this one when it releases to see where her journey takes us because you are in for a ride.!!😅😊
