Alejandro
The rules were simple: 1. Negotiate her ransom. 2. Keep her safe.
Little did he know the brown eyed, strong-willed woman he was harboring would be his undoing. It was a mistake to let her in, she wasn't his to keep. But when danger ensues, Alejandro will stop at nothing to protect her.
As secrets and lies are revealed, Alejandro and Amelia must decide exactly how far they are willing to go. Because one wrong move in this Game of Revenge could cost them everything.
My name is Stéphanie. I write angsty love stories with assertive female leads, who go toe to toe with alpha heroes.
My love for romance stems from my teenage years, when I used to secretly read my grandmother’s harlequin books under the covers, coupled with spending every weeknight avidly watching telenovelas with my mother.
I have been writing romance books since I was a teenager, but not in English. Fast forward to a few years ago, I finally found the courage to pick my pen back up and write romance stories in English.
I grew up in the Caribbean and currently live in Illinois.
My favorite pastime is spending time with my cat, a romance book in hand.
This book is amazing. I inhaled it. I’m on the second one now and I am learning everything I can about the dark romance genre because THIS BOOK is so so so good.
I don’t have the words. It did everything. The suspense is there. Writing style keeps you engaged. Multiple POVs. Food descriptions that had my mouth watering. I got hungry. Spicy scenes that blew me away. I’m obsessed.
3.25★ Game of Revenge marks my first foray into Stéphanie C's work, and the gripping opening immediately pulled me in. This book is filled with unexpected twists and turns that kept me eagerly turning the pages, eager to uncover the next surprise and determine who would betray whom.
The story follows Amelia, who has lived under the oppressive control of her stepfather Richard ever since her mother died when she was just four years old. Despite his outward appearance as a loving and caring guardian, Richard's true nature is rather ominous. Thus, Amelia plots to escape his grasp, but her plans are upended when she is kidnapped on the night of her 29th birthday.
Enter Alejandro, a man on a mission of revenge against Richard. His plan involves using Amelia as leverage. Initially, Alejandro is highly judgemental of Amelia for seemingly forgetting her Mexican heritage and thinking she's something better. However, as they spend time together, they begin to realize their initial judgments of each other were misguided.
I really loved the looming threat that was added to the initial abduction part, which came with a great push and pull between the main characters. There were some twists and turns I definitely did not see coming, which added a great suspense factor to the overall plot.
Despite her abduction, Amelia also always tried to stand her ground. She was as a strong, intelligent character doing her best to survive dire circumstances, but also always choosing the right time to fight back. This made her initial appearance rather authentic. Alejandro, on the other hand, broody and dangerous on the outer side, stuck to his moral code, exacting his revenge without causing unnecessary harm. A mafia-esque book without the usual misogyny was actually a nice spin!
However, the book isn't without its flaws. Now, I love me some angst and slow-ish burn, but I must say, I did struggle with the OW drama because it felt like inserting and dragging on drama for the sake of it! I felt like there was a certain finesse missing in the writing considering the uncertainties, jealousies, and insecurities. In this framework, all three started to give me major whiplash with their actio-reactio kind of dynamic.
In addition, the pacing of the story felt a bit unbalanced; after a thrilling start, the flow ebbed down, gained some intensity, stalled a bit, then gained momentum just to lose it again. Their reunion should have been an emotional highlight, but somehow it felt a bit bland.
In conclusion, Game of Revenge is an engaging read with strong characters and a suspenseful plot. Though it has its pacing issues and some overly drawn-out conflicts, this book provides an enjoyable and thrilling ride. I would rate it 3.25 stars for its ability to keep you invested in Amelia and Alejandro's story, and all the little beautiful fragments. I will definitely try to peek into Stéphanie's other works because I see so much untapped potential in her writing.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving the ARC didn't affect my opinion of the book.
This book had some nice twists and turns! I could not read fast enough to find out what was happening and who hurt who! And the slow burn tension throughout the whole book top notch!
Amelia has lived with her Stepfather (Richard) ever since she could remember, even after her mother's death at 4 years old. Richard might seem like the loving & caring Stepfather to the world, but the life Amelia lives is far from loving. Amelia has plan to escape her Stepfather's control, but on the night of her 29th birthday she's kidnapped.
Alejandro is on a mission for revenge. The plans is to use Amelia for ransom and take his revenge against Richard. The plans didn't include falling for Amelia though.
At first he's very judging of Amelia for forgetting her Mexican heritage, but the both spend time together, they realize that they've misjudged each other.
The banter between these two were amazing! Even if she was kidnapped, Amelia stood her ground stood up for herself. I loved that Alejandro stood by his morals, got his revenge, but never really hurt anyone. The only part I didn't enjoy was the 3rd act break up. The argument about Elena dragged on too long in my opinion. Amelia knew Alejandro had to act according to plan, but she kept seeing it as a betrayal for no reason.
I'm happy these two got their HEA and Amelia finally got her freedom.
💎 Enemies to lovers 💎 Forced proximity 💎 Alpha hero 💎 Suspense 💎 He falls first 💎 Touch her and ☠️
Talk about a slow burn with suspense and endless twist and turns. Half way through I was on the edge of my seat trying to anticipate what was coming next. The kidnapping plot had me hooked! And let’s not talk about the endless secrets, you honest just keep guessing. You can’t help but fall in love with two broken characters - one who is out for revenge and another that just doesn’t trust easily. There’s a tad bit of spice, nothing much and honestly it’s not needed. I was completely wrapped up in the this one. If you’re one that loves angst and banter, pick this one up…it won’t disappoint.
As secrets and lies are revealed, Alejandro and Amelia must decide exactly how far they are willing to go. Because one wrong move in this Game of Revenge could cost them everything.
Not really impressed with our "FMC"/heroine, Amelia. Over and over she's literally shown how the MMC, Alejandro is a playboy, meeting multiple women he's just either strung along or used. And keeps sticking around, keeps falling for his charms.
Girl. Get your sh*t together.
By page 225 of 406 I was asking "are we done yet?"
Picked up a bit finally around page 300/320, but by then I'd unfortunately lost my interest.
The spice was more of the sensual variety which is always nice! So this is not a dark romance in the bedroom, just in the plot and circumstance(s) surrounding our MCs fall into love! Just one random line where your main man randomly says he's going to punish Amelia which seemed very left field and out of character!
I loved that there was a strong sense of found family, whether in the form of friends, housekeepers standing in as parents, etc. Sometimes our blood family needs bolstering and that's unfortunate, but okay! Found family picks us and that's often just as if not more precious!
But overall, this book wasn't for me. I just couldn't get into it.

Devoured this book within 2 days, I didn't want to put it down. I had to know what happened next. And the emotional roller coaster was worth it, I held back tears at certain parts.
In part 2 you get to see his POV and everything starts to make sense as to why she was taken and how he feels about her.
I was his from the moment he saved her after she escapes the first time.
This book was full of mystery and desire! The kidnapped/mafia plot had me hooked and unable to put it down wanting to know everyone’s intentions and secrets!
Amelia and Alejandro are strong and stubborn characters with complex, dark pasts, and the want for revenge! Their forced proximity was full of conflict and tension creating such a great slow burn, I could not help but immediately root for them!
Alejandro can kidnap me anytime with two conditions: he is shirtless & he brings Dolores because I bet that woman gives the best hugs ♥︎
The secrets that unfold during the last quarter of the book were 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜, I was caught off guard with the emotions I felt for these characters! This was my first time picking up a “mafia vibe” book and it did not disappoint, I am craving more!
Thank you Stéphanie & Grey’s Promotions for the oppurtunity to read this ARC!
Amelia has been taken care of by her stepfather since her mom died at a young age. She grew up with this man who she always knew only wanted her there for the gain of business but Amelia gets kidnapped where she slowly starts discovering more. She gets kidnapped without any knowledge of why but comes to the conclusion it must be due to her stepfather. As time has gone on, she notices she's been around longer than she thought she would. A kidnapper she thought wanted her harm, actually doesn't want to cause her harm, Alejandro. Slowly they become closer and become physically with each other blurring the lines.
Starting the book and throughout the 1/3 of the book, it a bit confusing. Alejandro never telling Amelia why she was taken in fear of putting her in danger made me just want to give him a shake to tell me. It became a little annoying how Alejandro was always like "I can't tell you" and walk away, like dude why mention it at all then. It was a cute story of how Amelia came to be her own independent person throughout everything. I loved how it ended, tied up nicely with a nice bow.
This book was SO good! I’ve never read a kidnapper romance before but wowza this hooked me from the start! The initial kidnapping quickly drew me in, and the twists and turns with the cartel and the FMC’s father and fiancé kept me so invested. I never wanted to put it down.
I was so wrapped up in the plot and loved the interactions between Alejandro and Amelia. The burning tension between both of them was perfectly done and I loved how much Alejandro was willing to protect her. The spice was great - not too much but not too little either. The side characters added little bits to the plot as well that I enjoyed.
The ending was so good as well! There were a few times where I felt that it was dragging but nothing extreme to the point where I would dock a star. Everything flowed really well overall, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I reread this book in the future.
Thank you to Stephanie C. and Grey’s Promotions for the arc!
This was very different from other kidnapping books I've read. I kind of wish we had his pov throughout the book and not just the second half though. It was nice to see how in love with her he already was and how he would do anything to protect her. Her family sucked so bad and I'm glad she found Alejandro.
This book was so good I never thought I would find a book like this in I really enjoyed it I highly recommend everyone to read it Amelia and Alejandro story was amazing in I love it so much I can't wait for yall to read it.
Thank you so much @greyspromotions for sending me an arc copy of this book. Let me say this book is a rollercoaster of emotions, Stéphanie C’s writing will hook you within a few sentences.
Alejandro and Amelia I thoroughly enjoyed reading about. Alejandro has gone through so much trauma and I can understand what he did and Amelia I loved how she grew to live and stick up for herself through this book but there is one character that I really disliked and I think Stéphanie made it that way so I will not spoil on who it is but at times I had to contain myself especially towards the end 🫣
But with all that said I highly recommend you all read this books when you can. You will not regret it 😁
I am totally obsessed with this! I loved the characters, the plot, the writing style, how we got both POVs and so much more. I can't remember the last time a book has gripped me as much as this one has, I couldn't put it down! This is easily in my top 2 books of the year, hands down 🖤
If slow burn is one of your favorite tropes then you are going to love A Game of Revenge! The angst between Amelia and Alejandro is off the charts!! Amelia is a grown woman being controlled by her stepfather. Alejandro is out for revenge and what better way then to kidnap Amelia!!!
Alejandro doesn’t know what’s he’s getting into with Amelia! Little do they know they might just be what each other really need!
Game of Revenge, new author for me and I did enjoy this book. Amelia is kidnapped from her own birthday party, but has no knowledge why or by who she was taken. Amelia is far from stupid, she knows her stepfather has only kept her around after the death of her mother to make himself look good. Amelia knows this, just as she knows he won't pay a ransom for her. Escape is her only option, but just when she thinks she's safe, her rescuer Alejandro turns out to be her kidnapper. Alejandro is somewhat of an enigma, here's a man who is holding Amelia hostage, makes demands of her to join him for dinner, treats her well and yet we learn very little about him or his motives for holding Amelia.
Amelia and Alejandro have a chemistry between them which slowly slowly bubbles away and you find your self just waiting for it explode. As time moves on, Amelia's view of Alejandro starts to change, but she holds back after all falling for your kidnapper, especially when he already has a girlfriend and she has a fiance, is just wrong. Alejandro though is the dominant one, he pushes Amelia, leaving her in no doubt that he knows she's just as attracted to him as he is to her.
The back and forth between Amelia and Alejandro in the first half of the book was at times a little comical but was also frustrating. You are kept in the dark as to why Amelia is being held for a very long time with no real hints as to why and honestly Alejandro just saying she would be in great danger if she knew got a little stale. The storyline picks up in the second half of the book, when the secrets, lies, misplaced trust, start to emerge and yes that steamy eruption, when it came, was exactly that steam +++ . Mis-communication and mis-placed allegiances also play a big role in how Amelia and Alejandro's journey plays out. There's a twist right at the end that I didn't see coming but it rounds out the plot wonderfully. I'm excited to see where this series goes.
I received an advance reader copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is Stephanie C’s debut novel, and it’s pretty darn good. I really liked Amelia, and felt for her. The angst in this story had me fanning myself. I was at the edge of my seat just waiting to see what was going to happen. Highly recommend.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
If you are looking for a book that will keep you one your toes, then you have found it in Game of Revenge. This is the story of Amelia and Alejandro. She lives with her step-father who is not the best human being in the world. Her mother died when she was four and he has made sure to show the world that he is a loving caring stepparent while in reality her life is awful. But she has been smart about it and has been planning her escape. However, she is kidnapped on the night of her twenty ninth birthday and things are taking a turn she never saw coming. Alejandro is out for revenge. Amelia is the key to this and he is taking her getting the ransom and then his revenge again her step-father Richard will be complete. However, what happens when you fall for your revenge plan. I really liked these characters. They have some really great banter. I really loved that even though she has been taken against her will, she stands her ground and isn't afraid to go toe to toe with Alejandro. I loved how he had morals and he didn't compromise those. He stood by them. This is a good book. There were a few things that kept it from being a five star read for me. You'll see when you're reading if you like me think this argument is just about ridiculous.
Game of Revenge is my first book by Stéphanie C and I was all in after the way it opened. But from there, things slowed way down and I kept waiting for them to pick back up, but the intensity never quite picked all the way back up.
That being said, I liked Amelia. She was smart and strong and doing what she could to survive in the worst of situations. It didn't help that her captor was hot and cold towards her. Alejandro was hard to get a read on. Never quite sure what was true and a lie, it was enough to drive Amelia up a wall. Somewhere between dinners and books and flying bullets, something changed. Yes, there was this pulsing chemistry just waiting for its chance to explode, but there was something more. And the harder they fought it, the worse it got. And with a plan in place, there was no stopping things once they were in motion.
While there were elements of danger and suspense, I wanted more of it. And more of them in the aftermath of everything. But at the end of the day, the wild ride Amelia and Alejandro took towards happy did keep me on my toes all the way through.
3.5 ⭐ This was a debut for this author and it was OK. It started of really good and I was very invested. Amelia was getting ready for her birthday party and we get the gist of what her step father is like. A horrible man and she feels tethered to him because her mother died when she was 4. She is desperate to escape from him but is kidnapped instead. (maybe this isn't so bad) Alejandro is getting revenge against her step dad. Hoping to get ransom money in exchange. Frustrating thing was we didn't know what he was thinking or why he was doing this, as he didn't have a POV until second half of the book. They did have great chemistry but he had OW and she was in a forced engagement. So it was made complicated in a way and it wasn't as you knew these two were it. This did help Amelia build strength in her character and grow, which was great to see. She needed this. Alejandro was also stumped as he had assumed her all wrong. Lots of twists, secrets, surprises, drama and some spice. I did enjoy it just few bits that stopped it from a 4. Stephanie is definitely on the right path with her books.
This book was giving kidnapped-but-make-it-sexy, and honestly? I didn’t hate it. That much. I hated it a little bit.
Game of Revenge had me turning pages like I was watching a telenovela through my fingers — dramatic, a little chaotic, and full of characters who make questionable decisions with maximum intensity. Amelia, our hardheaded FMC, was the highlight. She stayed strong, talked back, and didn’t instantly fold for the mysterious brooding kidnapper with a jawline of the gods (though let’s be real, I probably would’ve cracked sooner).
Alejandro? Brooding, tortured, violently attractive. The “I’m not supposed to care, but oops I caught feelings” trope was out here doing the most — and I was into it. The chemistry between them was hot, even if some of the plot transitions were rough. It was a bit choppy at times, and the predictability had me sighing like, “Of course the childhood ex shows up.” Speaking of which — that girl? Nope. Immediate rage. Every scene she entered, I felt the urge to throw hands.
Also, why were all the women in this book acting like Alejandro was the last man on Earth? Amelia was way too chill about it. I would’ve been out there handing out restraining orders.
Cheesy? Yes. Predictable? Also yes. But did I devour it with the emotional investment of someone watching a trashy reality show at 2am? Absolutely. If you’re into dark-ish romance, hot morally gray men, and a heroine with a spine, this is your jam.
I adored our heroine, Amelia — she was extremely strong! I loved how stubborn she was and how she would always stand up for herself despite being kidnapped. I loved the complexity of our hero, Alejandro — being torn between love and revenge for his enemies daughter. The chemistry and built up of tension between Amelia and Alejandro was just *chefs kiss*, so even though there was little spice when it hit — IT HIT 🔥
This is my first read from the Stephanie and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This was well written and was full of angst, mystery and banter between the characters. I’m glad that Amelia and Alejandro were able to receive their happy ending. I cannot wait to delve into more of Stephanie’s work🤍

I am glad to be writing about this book, because I loved it and I was instantly fascinated by the great romance. All in all a very nice romance with depth and entertaining witty dialogue. While also entertaining, sweet and fun, the author offers a sublime respite from the world. A very brilliant romance with depth and entertaining witty dialogue. An absolute masterpiece, a literary gem that shines with brilliance from beginning to end. A perfect summer read.
The author's deft touch keeps readers on the edge of their seats with each twist and turn, leaves no room for boredom or distraction. With its spellbinding plot and unforgettable characters, "Game of revenge" is a triumph! The author is skillful, very detail-oriented. I love the writing, and the way that it just connects with my thoughts, and my mind. I strongly recommend this storytelling that deserves every praise it receives.
Wow, so good! This is a new author for me and I am so glad I found this novel. This novel was so good and took me on such a wild ride. From the first chapter I was pulled into the novel and just couldn't put it down. This novel had so many twists and turns and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved Amelia. She had such a difficult past because she was used as a pawn in her families dealings, yet she was strong despite everything she had been thru. Alejandro had such a traumatic past that I could understand his reasoning in doing what he did. I loved how protective he was with Amelia. I loved their chemistry. I loved watching them fall in love and work thru everything they were going thru. I did not want this novel to end. I can't wait to see what this author has coming next.
Amelia is kidnapped and she ends up at Alejandro's home. Is he the one who took her? Why won't he let her go? Amelia starts to develop feelings for Alejandro, does she have stockhome syndrome? Who can she trust? This one is full of surprises, there are many twists and turns throughout this book. Amelia is a strong, feisty woman despite the way she has been treated by her "father". Alejandro has his reasons for what he is doing but begins to question if he is doing the right thing. He becomes very protective of Amelia. These two had chemistry and I loved reading this one and how everything turned out. It was a great edge-of-your-seat book. I really enjoyed this read. One-click today!
Top notch slow burn. This book had me very angsty myself just wanting more as it stretched out with all the twists and turns. Perfect combination of kidnapping, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, and some sweet justified revenge. The characters were so well written and it was so easy to relate and understand their personalities and actions...even though some could be questionable!!
Both Amelia and Alejandro are very strong willed, pig headed characters. The snarky banter between these two was hilarious. Part two of the book was my favorite by far especially when secrets unraveled and tensions were at an all time high. These two are strung along by the heat of every fire thrown at them and I love how they have to fully accept their own wants before they put it all on the table!
I have mixed feelings. LOVED the storyline, loved the twists, even up thill the very end. Overall, a 4 star read for me. There were a couple things that irked me slightly. Some scenes felt like it was forced and uncomfortable to have been written so there was.....different wordage used. And my biggest frustration was that Part 2 was basically them being jealous constantly of each other and her saying he has a girlfriend all the time.
Alejandro, love. Amelia, love. Together, frustration. Mutual destruction and teaming up with outsiders to take down common enemies is a huge win for me.
I am excited to read the second book to see how things go and if we follow a different person, maybe one of the friends?
