Our Exception #2

Suddenly You

Rate this book
We’ve all heard the saying, "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."
God help me, if only that were true.
Because as it turns out, my surprise gay husband is very much still my husband outside of the great state of Nevada. And let me tell you, as a straight guy, waking up married to a man I barely know with no memory of how it happened wasn’t even on my Bingo card.
What started as a fun weekend getaway to support my brothers in their relationships and show them how much I've grown, has somehow spiraled wildly out of my control.
Cooper Barone is rich, kind, and charming, but he’s holding all the cards now. Because he doesn't want our marriage annulled. No, he says he wants us to make a deal. He wants me to spend time with him, to move in with him.
All I know is that I’m broke and I can't afford a divorce without his compliance, without his help.
So there’s nothing left for me to do but agree and accept my fate.
I'm a straight dude with a husband.
This is my life now.

Yes, I did it again. In my defense, I had just finished a nonfiction book about cancer and needed something lite and easy. This book delivered.

Cooper is a spoiled rich boy, but he's so good to Matthew, who soaks it all in. Turns out Matt loves to be cuddled and adored. He loves walks on the beach, bubble baths, and seashells - all the "gay" things he never had a chance to enjoy.

Coop and Matt wake up married, and Coop refuses to get divorced. He strong-arms Matt into moving in and proceeds to shower him with attention & affection.

Frankly, I was jealous.

Expect: maybe-accidental but oh-so-real marriage, slowish burn (which was so refreshing), HEA.

The MCs are Cora Rose prototypes and not particularly unique, but I actually enjoyed this story.

The "epilogue" (which isn't an epilogue in the slightest) is from the perspective of the the oldest brother, Mitch, who's lost and all alone. I'm looking forward to his story next.

I love Suddenly You so much!!!! Coop and Matt's relationship took its time and was one of the most moving, emotional, and endearing romances I have ever read. Matt being so touch starved and Coop easily understanding his needs instantly showed how deeply connected these two are.

I love how this story properly develops a friendship between Matt and Coop as their unexpected marriage is a complete shock to Matt, while Coop is not as easily bothered or surprised. Their feelings for one another slowly grow more serious with time including many sweet, silly, and endearing moments between them.

What I loved about this story the most is how quiet, shy, and reserved Matt is. His personality is the complete opposite of what I was expecting, and having Cooper be so nurturing, respectful and patient was the best complement to Matthew's personality.

Overall this is an amazing romance that I devoured from beginning to end. I loved getting more insight into their Vegas wedding, which is nothing short of hilarious and I am so curious about Mitch. He is the most conflicted and moodiest brother and I look forward to seeing how his story will unravel.

Very enjoyable, really liked Matt and Coop, they make a great couple and they are perfect for each other.
Matt’s love for seashells was so sweet, I enjoyed seeing him let lose and allow himself to be happy. Coop was a sweetheart, always there for Matt and spoiling him.
Overall good!
Excited to read Mitch’s book

This was sweet! A little dull but nice. I was so much more interested towards the beginning half. Not my favorite from Cora but certainly not my most hated. This worked for me most likely due to the fact it’s been ages since I’ve read Cora but it also reminded me why I’ve stayed away lol.

Give me a touch starved MC and I am instantly obsessed each and every time 🥰🥰🥰. I loved this book and Cora's take on the 'drunken Vegas wedding' trope. Matt and Cooper wake up after a night of celebrating a wedding and are shocked to find out they got married too. Matt is straight and immediately wants a divorce. Cooper, a bit mischievous and also a bit lonely, refuses to pay for it in the hopes that he can change Matt's mind. Matt can't afford a divorce anyway, so they decide to make the best of it and move in together temporarily until they figure things out. What comes next is the sweetest story of redemption and finding happiness in unexpected ways.

Matt is absolutely desperate to be given permission to enjoy softness and pretty things. He's so used to denying himself the things that he truly wants that it's no wonder he's miserable. I think it's really sad that the same is likely true for a lot of men- they're taught to avoid (or even disdain) anything that could be considered feminine, and keep themselves from things that could make them happy. One of my favourite scenes was when Cooper loans Matt some of his underwear. Cooper teaches Matt that it's okay to be who he yearns to be, and Matt shows Cooper that he can be loved for who he is rather than his money. The book wrapped up kinda quickly for me and I wanted to read more.

I read this book in one sitting... and already can't wait to read Mitch's story. His character has interested me from the beginning. The Morris boys have a lot of pain to work through, and I'm thrilled they're getting their happy endings.

Rating: 4.5 rounded up

Steam: 3.5/5

Tropes: woke up married, amnesia, rich/poor
Feels: 3.5/5
Steam*: 2.5/5
Kinks: toys, touch starved
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings: homophobia

Matt is 28 and a high school PE teacher. He is a brother of Magnus. He was a homophobic ass in the past to Magnus and his other brother Max who is also now married to a man. But he's trying to change and make it up to him and be involved in his brothers' lives. He goes to Vegas to attend his brother Max's wedding and he wakes up in bed with Cooper, a friend of his brother-in-law's. Cooper's 26, loud and proud gay, and rich. He doesn't work because his parents are super wealthy and he's got a trust fund. Cooper met Matt a couple weeks before the wedding and was attracted to him and riling him up before the wedding. Neither of them remember them drunkenly getting married or how they spent their wedding night, but they both woke up covered in cum so shiz happened.

Matt wants an instant annulment or divorce, but he's broke and can't afford it so Cooper would have to pay for it. But Cooper doesn't want to get a divorce, he wants to have Matt for longer, he wants to play with him for longer. Cooper manages to convince frugal Matt that he should move in with him to save money. Matt agrees. Matt is actually a sensitive soul and starved for affection and touch. Cooper picks up on that pretty quickly and gives Matt what he needs. Real affection grows between the two of them. This book spans a number of months and over that time they build a relationship. They go from platonic snuggling to satisfy Matt's need for affection and adding in sexual touch, and slowly over time they get more and more wrapped up in each other and invested in keeping this marriage going. But they don't talk as they should and there's a bit of a miscommunication at the end that almost leads to a breakup.

I was trepiditious about reading this book. Max and Beau's story kind of scarred me and burned my eyes out. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. There was almost no other man drama. They both committed from the beginning to being faithful. And one thing that absolutely makes me weak for a couple is platonic snuggling, it's a favorite of mine, and this book had it in spades. So this book really was right up my alley. If I wasn't so burned by the book that came before it in this series I might have enjoyed it even more.

I loved how Cooper accepted Matt and gave him what he needed without him having to ask. And when I say what he needed, I mean snuggles, emotional support, reassurance that he was normal, validation of his interests and feelings, and yes a little bit of financial support too. But I have to say I'm actually not a really big fan of books where one character financially Bankrolls their love interest's life. Buying someone's affection can be a bit cringe and not romantic. Also a side note, I like my main characters to have jobs/vocations, having so much money that you don't need a job makes you unrelatable to me and a lack of ambition and interest in doing something of value with your life is not very attractive. I liked when Cooper started volunteering so he was doing something he was enthusiastic about. Another thing I didn't love about Cooper was how he kept saying that he knew that Matt was straight but he kept on pursuing him, if he didn't think that Matt was at least a little queer he shouldn't have been pursuing him - it just is a bad dynamic, he shouldn't have been saying know, he should have just been expressing he hoped Matt was a little queer. Too many of their encounters early on started with one of them waking up hard after a platonic snuggling session and I wasn't a huge fan of that because sex after that was more about biologic needs than the other person. Though I loved that as time passed we had many weeks of sexual encounters where they were completely focused on the other person and wanting the other person.

I liked that Matt and Cooper had a slow journey into sexual exploration. It fit Matt and it let his emotions kind of lead before the physical, so you could understand why he was comfortable with being with a man when it was Cooper and previously he had only been with women. It was so sweet seeing Matt being tortured by the physical distance between him and Cooper at times, and him just needing to close that Gap and have Cooper touching him, the fact that he didn't sleep well unless he was snuggling Cooper, that he loved to be the little spoon so hard. And how happy it made him that Cooper accepted his interests. All the moments of them collecting treasures together were adorable. I do think the ending came too fast though. Matt only felt comfortable doing anal at 92% and they had a huge misunderstanding at three pages before the end of the book and it went straight from apologizing for the misunderstanding to that being the end of the book. I needed to see a little bit more.

I went absolutely feral for the appearances made by Cora's past characters. I was so happy with the little moments of Sem and Magnus, Whit and Caleb, and Emery and August. I smiled and laughed a lot in their appearances. I highlighted so many funny moments. We started off with a bang with Sem showing up the morning Matt and Cooper woke up in bed, and him seeing them covered in cum and grinning wildly and telling Maggie immediately. When Sem abducted Matt, and took him to the cabin, I was sold on whatever Sem was doing no questions asked. Them accidentally stumbling across Whit and Caleb f****** in the shack and Sem just being so done with their s***, tired of walking in on them having sex was hilarious. Sem was intending to rough him up and intimidate him only for it to turn into a gay sex education session... I howled. Sem, Caleb, and Whit were all recommending gay sex experiences that were their personal favorites and raving. I loved getting to see Emery playing with Maggie's kids so exuberantly, Emery deserves so much happiness. Cooper in the dollar store was also a hilarious scene. I loved that there were a bunch of humorous moments. With that and all the positive vibes of their platonic snuggling and the touch starved plot line, this book was a happy headspace for me.

Mitch's story is going to be interesting. He's very different from Max and Matt. Mitch has been with a lot of guys whereas Max and Matt had never been with a guy before. A little toxic and shitty of him though to not be one for reciprocating. But color me intrigued.

Some notable moments:

"By the time we make it to the register, both carts are full and the poor kid behind the counter just sighs, his shoulders slumping."

I loved Whit putting it together and the gasp that Caleb gasped! "“Magnus’s brother, Matt. Remember Sem told us about how they went to Vegas for Max’s wedding and Sem found Matt and another guy naked, covered in—” “Splooge,” Caleb gasps and then turns toward me, and the O of his mouth transforms into a Cheshire Cat smile. “You’re the dude.”"

I love Sem so much "I run a hand down my face. “So, is the sex talk over?” “Yeah. I’m a little sad we didn’t get a chance to scare you,” Sem says, reaching down and pulling out a flamethrower. He turns it on and Caleb chuckles. “But then you just looked kinda sad and lost, so we decided to pivot.”"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

“Put me down!” Coop says with a laugh. “This is indecent.”
“You’re indecent,” I mutter, smacking his ass roughly with my palm.

“Is that my shirt?”
“Yes,” he says, not even sorry for it.
“I thought you hated my straight-man wardrobe.” “Seems I might have a thing for these t-shirts, Matthew. Sue me.”
“I would if I could afford it.”

[Coop’'s first time at a dollar store]
“I need a cart. I’m a millionaire, Matthew. I’m going to buy it all.” A laugh escapes me as he turns and jogs outside, returning with not one but two carts. “Coop,” I say with a grin. “What are you doing? Half this stuff is junk.” “Yeah, but it’s a dollar, Matthew. My world has been turned upside down. I’m a new man.” He rolls a cart to me. “Now push this, babe. I have things to buy.”

Haha, these two were a fucking delight. I loooooved how Coop saw Matt’s touch-starved needs and gave it all to him without saying a word. ♡

He tastes like magic, like summer, like my sunshine. He came into my life when I needed him, when I needed to be seen. He saw me, he embraced me, he shined his light on me and I grew warm from it.

I was a little miffed at first because I don’t like when they get drunkenly married and never remember anything about the night it happened. And they don’t. But I was a very happy cookie when I saw there was a bonus short, so at least we, the readers, would know. It was very cute.

As always when it comes to Cora Rose, it’s a 10/10 for me. These characters she creates are so wonderful. I’ve been desperate to get my hands on this book as soon as I finished Except You, the first book in this new series. I love a good redemption arc, and poor sweet Matt definitely deserves all the love he gets from Cooper. Watching these two fall for each other was everything! I can’t wait for the next book, I have a feeling that Mitch’s story is going to be a tearjerker.

Ok so I am having a hard time knowing what to write in this review. I was super skeptical about this series as these brothers were so mean to my baby Maggie in Sem and I just didn’t know if I could forgive them. I read book 1 and ending up loving it. I thought the author did such a great redemption story so I decided to give this book a try too. Honestly, I felt the exact same way about this one until the final two chapters.

What I loved about this one:

Matt being able to just be Matt! He’s been told all his life to not be so sensitive, not to collect the pretty rocks, cuddling is for sissies, that he had to be a man but Coop changes all of that and just lets him be and loves him for who he is. That alone made this story amazing! Matt is the biggest cuddle bug and it was so cute to see his response to being touched.

Coop was amazing and so caring. He just wanted to do whatever he could for Matt. I freaking loved his Dollar Store adventure! He really was exactly who Matt needed. I wasn’t a huge fan of Coop in book 1 but had no issues with him in this one.

Cameos!!!!! There were so many cameos from some of our fav characters and I was here for every one of them!

What I didn’t enjoy about this story:

The final two chapters! The last chapter before the epilogue a crazy miscommunication happens and it made me so mad and hurt for Matt and I couldn’t handle that right at the end of their story. I wanted only happy times for them and to see their HEA. We still kind of see it but not enough of one, really wish we got to see more.

The epilogue is actually from Matt’s brother Mitch’s POV. Honestly I would suggest skipping if you are sensitive to degradation and darker stories. It actually made me super uncomfortable and I will not be able to read his story.

Conclusion:

If you love this author and are super into this series and redemption and don’t mind a miscommunication and a darker epilogue then you will probably love it! I really hope you do because the rest of the story was wonderful but I just personally couldn’t get past the end.

This started pretty good and I was enjoying it, but by the end it was pretty boring. By the last fifty pages I was really ready for it to be over.
This book didn't have enough plot to justify 300 pages. It could have been a good 200 page book, but instead it was a meh 300 page book.

In Vegas for his brother’s wedding, Matt wakes up the following morning with a hangover from hell and a ring on a very important finger. With no memory of the night before, Matt has no clue how he ended up married, let alone married to man.

Cooper, while annoying and ridiculously rich, is surprisingly kind and funny, but won’t let Matt annul their marriage. Instead he moves Matt into his home, spoils him rotten, and gives him all the affection he’s been missing. In return Cooper only wants Matt to spend time with him. Blackmail for sure, but Matt doesn’t put up much of a fight.

I loved the banter and chemistry between these two in Except You, and loved every minute of their own story. Cooper is a hard man to say no to, and poor “straight” Matty didn’t stand a chance! I think Matt may be the sweetest of the brothers so far, and him being a total snuggle bug was so adorable. & Coop was just so affectionate and nurturing—just what Matt needed.

Also that epilogue?! 🤯😱

- wake up married
- blackmail
- opposites attract
- queer awakening

I'm still thinking about this one to write a proper review.

This was a slight departure for a Cora Rose book with a slower burn and focus on relationship development and less insta love/insta sex, crazy plots and wacky characters that usually feature in Cora's books (if you just ignore the whole Vegas wedding caper at the beginning).

Took a while to adjust, but in the end, I quite liked the story that was told here.

The characters were sweet with lonely and caring Cooper who is gay, and shy, insecure touch/ love deprived Matthew who is straight getting to know each other as husbands on a realistic timeline.
More to come...

What I like about this was the fact that Matthew and Cooper couldn't resist each other especially Matthew he just couldn't resist Cooper no matter how bad he tried even when they have a moment when they kinda "fight" Cooper couldn't say no to Matthew and Matthew couldn't help to give in to him, they're literally each other's weaknesses, Matthew always says sorry when he thought he had done something wrong that upsets Cooper I mean HOW CUTE IS THAT!!! Matthew is touch starved and Cooper knows how his body works they got chemistry even when they're not officially together yet.
I can't wait for mitch story I hope it come out soon!!

This review will be VERY SPOILER HEAVY.

I’m so conflicted. I think I need to stop getting so excited for books, I definitely need to manage my expectations.

I liked this A LOT better than the previous book. The MCs don’t get with anyone else, Coop texts his fuck buddy that he’s off the market when he wakes up married to Matt and he never thinks of straying from Matt even when Matt is still talking about divorce and even when they aren’t being sexual.

I liked Matt, how he was needy and touch-starved.

I liked Coop, he was actually perfect. Loyal, rich, generous with his money, generous with his affection, he took care of Matt, he did EVERYTHING for him. I just didn’t really understand what Matt brought to the relationship.

The ‘straight guy’ holding onto ‘being straight’ even tho he’s clearly not because of everything he’s doing with another man got old really fast, I understand that it’s this author’s shtick but I was annoyed and rolling my eyes every time it came up. 🙈

Am I crazy, during the club scene, hadn’t Matt met Robin at the beach shortly after moving in with Coop, but at the club he didn’t know who he was?

I didn’t like the pacing, it felt like there was a bunch of nothing happening just so that the actual penetration scene could be prolonged to the very end.

You won’t hear me saying this often but I actually wanted to see a break up in this one. Tho it didn’t seem like Matt would’ve worked very hard to get Coop back considering how quickly he flopped from wanting to fight for him to giving up and packing his stuff at the end there.
I understand the almost break up but I felt like that would’ve been better at the third half like most books have it than it being so rushed at the ending, it didn’t feel like a good payout to me. Especially since it jumped right into Mitch’s POV and there’s no release date planned for his book yet. 🙈

I actually found myself not being able to fully enjoy the fluffy domestic scenes with the cooking and cuddling because I wanted the whole divorce thing to come to a head 😭

I mean I don't want to say the problem might be >20 books in 2 years but the problem might be more than twenty books in two years.

Currently, Rose is not re-discovering that sweet spot that was Whit and Sem and that drew many (including me) to her work. I'm not going to try anymore contemporary Rose, because even I have limits what I will happily read for my obsessive codependent cuddles. Maybe a foray into omegaverse? Hazard has also discovered varying worlds for her characters neediness and I believe they work even better in the space and omegaverse settings where a certain obsessiveness can be written into the world.

Well that was a roundabout way of saying this was meh. Stereotyping galore of the homophobic straight man and the predator gay twink.

NSFW infos:
- 28 year old teacher (athletic coach), believed to be straight and starts off homophobic, bigger, little spoon, tops
- 26 year old trust fund kid, out and gay, smaller, big spoon, bottoms
- frotting, blowjobs, handjobs, playing with dildo and plug, coming on gaping hole "just the tip"
- lacy panties
- cuddles

‘He always puts me first. I don’t think anyone has ever done that before. It’s like being slowly awoken from a cold, dark night and catching the first rays of sunshine, the warmth coating my skin and bleeding into my soul’

Cooper and Matthew wake up married in Vegas. Matthew agrees to spend time with Cooper and move in with him until he “pays his debt” and can finally afford the lawyers for the divorce. There were parts about this I really did like and parts that just sort of fell flat to me in terms of pacing.

I really loved how touched staved and needy Matthew was and the whole seashells on the beach. I loved Cooper always holding space for Matthew and being exactly what he needed. Lots of hurt comfort vibes and my chest felt warm a lot of the book. But the pacing with how long it took for Matthew to fall and for them to finally fuck was annoying. Also the last chapter was just so OTT and not needed.

BUT my main problems are…..
The clear power imbalance as far as money Cooper had a lot and Matthew clearly was struggling and it made me cringe every time Matt was like are you tacting that on to the debt? Which brings me to me second biggest problem the clear that if he’s a homophobe and MUST be gay! As a gay man who has experienced homophobia that’s just not the case.
ALSO alot of the same sentence or words were used in the first book and now in this book. I clearly remember in except you when Max says something about being two halves of the same heart and in THIS book Cooper says almost the EXACT same thing. So idk it just sort of feels like you could change out either of the brothers and I wouldn’t know the difference same with Beau and Cooper.

But that epilogue did gag me. (Freaky, cruising public sex while your brother gets married? I’m looking at you Mitch 👀

But it’s a Cora rose book so dispel reality and all that.

This was good. I wanted something a little more, but I honestly can’t tell you what. I am so glad that this wasn’t over the top Cora though.

Also side note if you didn’t read the first book, this one can be a little confusing at first. I think it left off after the first one ended. I didn’t read the first one, so I was like what’s going on??? I had to phone a friend.

I am not sure if I’ll read the next one. Mitch sounds stupid and mean.

Matthew and Coop wake up in Vegas with a huge hangover and being married to each other. No one knows how that happened. Matt, the “straight” guy, wants a divorce, but unfortunately can’t afford it, so he was forced to live with Coop to slowly “pay” toward the divorce.

This is another book I picked up for the touch-starved element, and it doesn’t disappoint me in that aspect (but it does in others, yeah).

The beginning did hook me, and I thought this was gonna be a 5-star read. The banters are just right, the mysterious element is in place, and the way Matthew craves to be touched is painted so well. We also see glimpses of his strict upbringing—how he’s never allowed to be his sensitive self, or even to collect beautiful things because that’s for sissies.

Yet somewhere in the middle this turns into Matthew ticking off all the possible gay s*x, dipping deeper until they finally did the real deal. The exploration and slow burn make sense, but from here on, we only get s*x, s*x, and more s*x in various forms and repetitions, and barely any other development. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I got so bored reading all those scenes.

And the plot is left underdeveloped. The reason behind Matt’s debt is never explained properly. And what’s the deal with Coop’s legs? It’s mentioned a few times that they don’t work and he can’t run more than 10 mins, and the author left it at that. Coop is also said to be lonely, but he’s got at least two best friends he’s very close with, and he’s also an extrovert who fits in easily and has several (ex-) fuck-buddies. I don’t get where his loneliness comes from.

Then we have the cameos that barely add anything to the plot. There’s even a very awkward scene with the cameos acting like gay advisors for Matthew. It might be nice for readers who have read the other books, but for me, it feels forced and unnecessary.

And seriously, I thought the epilogue was gonna be about what actually happened on that night in Vegas. Instead, we’ve got Matt’s crazy brother with his twisted mind as an intro for his book. It’s supposed to get me curious, but nah, that’s too much for me, and I’m not looking forward to another tiresome gay awakening like this one.

Suddenly You is book two in the Our Exception series. This bi-awakening MM romance story is about Matt and Cooper.

On a weekend getaway to Vegas to support his brothers, Matt wakes up to find himself married to Cooper. They both have no memory of how it happened. Matt wants to get the marriage annulled but can’t afford to, so Cooper makes him a deal and Matt agrees to it.

Matt moves in with Cooper, and since he is straight, he is confused by his feelings. Matt is so touch starved, and it was amazing to see Cooper take care of him and give him what he needed. Although Cooper had a great life with lots of money and friends, Matt came into his life and made him realize how lonely he was and that he truly craved a partner. I loved how patient Cooper was with Matt. It was beautiful to watch their feelings grow and to see them fall for each other.

I was so excited that we not only got to see Sem and Maggie in this book, but we also got to see more of my favorite characters from the Unexpected series. It was such a wonderful treat and made me want to reread Whit and Emery again.

Suddenly You was an amazing read. Just like the rest of Cora’s books, I found myself laughing, swooning, and getting choked up. I also ate up all of the sweet and spicy moments. This has been a fantastic series, and I really enjoyed reading Matt and Cooper’s love story. The epilogue gives us a glimpse of what’s to come, and I cannot wait for Mitch’s story.

I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

Ahh I loved this one even more than the first in this series! The woke up married in Vegas set up is one of my favorites. Add in dual POV, a queer awakening, a touch starved golden retriever of an MC (Matt) , cuddles, beach walks, balcony meals, sea shell collecting, shared baths, lingerie, emotion, , laughs, steam and cameos from some of my favorite Cora Rose characters #winner

Favorite Quotes:
"And you’re not my first choice either, but I think I’ll quite like being married to you, Matthew Morris.”

“This doesn’t count.” “Did you say ‘no homo’ beforehand? Because I heard that works,”

“You smell nice.” “Shit, Coop. Take this seriously.” “I don’t have a serious bone in my body, Matthew.” “For fuck’s sake! If I have to carry you down to the chapel, I will. Don’t test me.” “Be still my beating gay heart,” he replies with a laugh.

It’s too much. Coop is too fucking much. With his touches and nicknames and terms of endearment. It makes my heart swell and stutter, and I’m left a blushing mess.

“Oh, Matthew. I’m going to spoil you rotten,” he tells me. “You’re never gonna want to leave me.”

Matthew Morris is a touch- starved man, and I intend to give him everything he needs. He will be so saturated with it that he’ll desire me in ways he never expected.

For the first time in my life, I feel my future align into place. Coop. My true north.

He needs me in ways no one has before, and I plan on giving him everything he’s ever wanted. Everything he’s ever needed.

He needs me in ways no one has before, and I plan on giving him everything he’s ever wanted. Everything he’s ever needed.

He’s so damn sweet, with his seashells and his snuggles and his tender kisses.

“You’re so perfect,” he moans as he licks his way into my mouth. “My Matthew.” The way he says my name, a needy groan, makes my entire chest cave.

He came into my life when I needed him, when I needed to be seen. He saw me, he embraced me, he shined his light on me and I grew warm from it. I’ve never felt more alive than when I’m with him.

“You taste so good,” I whisper, kissing his swollen, dripping head. “You taste like you’re mine.”

“Hm, seems you were made for me.” “I am, Matthew. You and I. We’re two halves of a whole.”

I absolutely adored Matt's book and it was totally worth the wait. The previous book in the series introduced us to Matt and Cooper, and I was thrilled to learn that they got drunk and married in Vegas. As the story progresses, Matt tries to get a divorce as soon as possible, but Cooper has other ideas. He blackmails Matt into staying married and moving in together to pay off his debt.

Despite initial hesitation, Matt and Cooper's relationship progresses beautifully. They have amazing chemistry, and their intimate scenes are incredibly steamy. I loved how Cooper saw the real Matt, understanding his neediness and hobbies. Their HEA was the sweetest thing ever, and I simply adored it.

The story also reintroduced Magnus and Sem, Caleb, Whit, Max, and Beau. While I loved seeing all of them, I was particularly pleased with how Max was there for Matt, understanding his confusion and supporting him. The bonus story was also a real treat!

I have mixed feelings about Mitch, and I can't wait to read his story. I hope to see him taken down a notch or two.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book and the entire series. You won't be disappointed!

Matty, Matty, Matty.

This series is a redemption series for sure, but I found myself almost forgetting why Matthew needed to be redeemed.

When he’s not putting on the macho front, in his brain, he’s just a sweet, touch starved man. Cooper picks up on this immediately of course and gives him everything he could ever want.

Cooper needed his own redemption with a lot of readers it seems. He wasn’t beloved from the first book but he redeemed himself with me in this book. He does basically force Matt into this situation but it all works out in the end.

The only reason this isn’t a 5 star for me is that there are some sub-plot lines that I felt weren’t completed or not completed well. Other than that, I loved this book and devoured it in one sitting 🖤

I received a complimentary copy of this book but this is my honest and voluntary review! 🖤

Siento que escribe el mismo libro una y otra vez, lo único que cambia es cómo se conocen... Igual me gustan 😏

Slow burn. Slow, slow, burn. A night they can't remember causes a small little case of blackmail. But, I really think that Coop knew what he was doing. It's almost as if he could see what Matt needed, and allowed Matt to take his time in finding himself. Coop, outside of that small smidge of blackmail, didn't pressure Matt into doing anything he didn't want to. He supported him emotionally while Matt came to terms with himself.
Matt has a lot of back and forth, trying to figure out who he is. He's working on rewiring himself. His past with his gay brothers holds a lot over his head. He harbours guilt, rightfully so, but he's doing what he can to work through it. He truly is trying to be a better person and make up for the harm he caused in his past. Coop is right there with him, holding his hand and giving him the support that he needs.
Matt comes into himself, and gradually accepts who he is. He learns to love himself, and that how he feels isn't wrong. They really do compliment each other.

And that epilogue?! Wooooo its gonna be intense.

This book is much more toned down than the previous installment. It does have its moments

"It’s so fucking girly to need this as much as I do."

"Personally, I haven’t had a bath since I was a kid. Real men don’t do that. Or at least that’s what my dad says. Baths are for sissies."

"That’s so gay, man. Seashells are for pussies."

but it's readable and offers a light, sweet love story with the fake marriage trope that doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it at least manages to pull it off this time with the decent amount of smut and a plot not too crazy.

🟣 Fake marriage
🟢 Rags to riches
🔵 Both MMCs are sweet and uncomplicated
🟡 Matt definitely redeems himself and is a complete sweetheart
🟠 Bi-awakening
🌶️ Sex is good, a lot of kissing, edging, sucking until penetrative sex at the end; lingerie; dildo; plug; bath tub; t/b

There was some banter with Matt and Cooper in the previous book, Cooper is Beau's friend and meets Matt when Beau is moving in with Max. I definitely wanted more of that, but this book focuses more on the emotional side, which was definitely a refreshing take, considering the first installment was quite superficial and well, terrible.

Matt and Coop find themselves married in Vegas, but they can't remember anything, because they were too drunk. There's a link to the story of what happened in Vegas at the end of the book and you'll want to read that first.

Matt moves in with Coop and gets spoiled rotten. Coop's side of the story was often left out, I didn't know how much Coop really wanted Matt until the very last chapters, but they definitely had a great time with Matt's bi-awakening in full swing.

They didn't have full-on sex until 90% of the book, but there was a lot of kissing, edging, blowjobs and jerking off. The sex was satisfyingly intertwined with developing emotions and Matt being as touch starved as he was, got everything he ever wanted and needed with Cooper.

The only thing that bothered me with sex was the scene of them being almost naked in bed, on top of each other, both in laced panties and they didn't follow through, they stopped everything before they came, went their separate ways - completely not believable and stupid, honestly, but the rest was fine.

"Kissing a man for the first time should be bewildering, should set me adrift, but for some reason, this kiss does nothing more than set down roots. They twine and wrap around me, digging deep into the essence of us. My world which always felt like it was spinning sideways, out of my control, comes settling into the steady pull of his orbit. For the first time in my life, I feel my future align into place."

The book has its moments where it's on the right track, but then completely dumbs down the importance of certain things and tries to be funny. It's not working. (Please don't do this to Mitch's book.)

If things like

"I hear my friend, Owen, drawl. We’ve known each other since second grade when he walked up to me and complimented my cashmere sweater. I knew then we’d be best friends. He has impeccable taste."

were left out most of the time, the book would have a much more serious undertone. Trying to be funny about certain aspects of life that aren't universally hilarious usually doesn't do the trick.

I'm also tired of stereotypes being used as frequently as toilet paper, the dialogues that put a character in a certain group of people where they have to crawl their way out of there in order to become likeable, even - leaving the abundance of gay stereotypes aside, the straight men in this series are completely villainised. It's almost a juvenile take how now they're all coming to their senses by just coming out as gay or bi.

I also had a tough time thinking Cooper had any emotional depth, because he was too busy having superficial dialogues and drinking cocktails. His character had much more potential.

The side characters we're mostly familiar with, the new guys aren't that interesting, but Mitch, Matt's most homophobic and toughest brother looks like is going to be the most interesting character in the series. At least for me. And I really hope his book gets the depth it deserves. I'm very interested in the guy.

I wouldn't really recommend this book, but the idea overall is definitely a little more thought-out than the first one.

This redemption serie is getting better and better.
Hot damn those brothers have been soooo fucked up that they are all in the closet AND in denial !

“Except you” was good !
Suddenly you are as good as the previous one.

Matt is just a huge cinnamon roll, a needy cutie who wants cuddles and to be taken care of. My heart melted for him the whole time.
Coop is this damn sexy, confident power bottom but who needs to have his own place, where he belongs, to be loved and to love. ❤️
Only green flags and redemption/acceptance.
Honestly I wish we could visit their parents because they broke their boys, ever.single.one.of.them.
They all had to live with internalized homophobia and couldn’t be themselves.

I couldn’t put the book down, it’s almost 3am where I live haha and I just finished it. Was so so so good.
Matt got me so much with his treasures and those cuddles moments, and all the baths 🥰 I just wanna cuddle now too 🥹.

I loved seeing Whit/Caleb, Sem/Maggie, Emery/August again, as well as Max/Beau ! ❤️😍❤️ I want to read again their books 📖.

Special mention for the sexual discovery, all the kisses and the lingerie 🔥🤭.

Now I just CAN’T wait for Mitch book. This one is gonna be 🔥🔥🔥🔥 !

❣️ Bi awakening
🎰 Unplanned Vegas wedding (wake up married)
❣️ Opposites attracts
🎰 Previous series “cameos”

Suddenly You is book 2 in the Our Exception series, and it’s Matt (Magnus and Max’s brother) and Connor’s story.

At the end of book 1, we leave the gang in Vegas, after they celebrated Max and Beau’s wedding.
Book 2 starts exactly where book 1 left off, the morning following the wedding.
Matt wakes up with a mean hangover, only to realize he’s not alone in bed… Connor is naked beside him… and he also has the same wedding ring on his finger that he has… but neither of them remembers anything about the previous night.

Matt being almost bankrupt, he can't afford a lawyer for an annulment or a divorce… Connor offers him a deal he can't refuse…

While reading book 1, I couldn't imagine how Matt’s redemption story could be successful. Well, it was and the fact that he was thrown into marriage with a man from the first page is what made it a successful story in my opinion. This story happens in reverse and I loved everything about it.

I loved both characters, but the way Connor accepted Max as he was, never forcing him to do anything and pushing him was everything to me. Also, Connor cracks me up!
And Max's vulnerability was so endearing…

Now, I’m impatiently waiting for Mitch’s story… because that Epilogue!! I wasn’t expecting to feel sorry for him in the least!

I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

More Cora Rose sweetness. This did the “woke up married” trope well and these two were super cute together. I’m loving that we’re getting the story of all of Magnus’ brothers.
