Look unto Me in Every Thought

Rate this book
Every child of God, despite our past spiritual experiences, can expect to have our faith and testimony tested during our spiritual journey. Doubt is a normal part of our faith experience. The question is not whether moments of doubt will arise in our lives, but where we will turn and who we will look to when they do arise.

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, taught us where to look when doubt threatens our faith. "Look unto me in every thought," he said, "doubt not, fear not" (Doctrine and Covenants 6:36).

Look unto Me in Every Thought is a guide for Latter-day Saints to navigate through storms of doubt, strengthen our connection with Christ, and seek answers to the deepest questions of our souls.

Whether your testimony feels strong and immovable, or you feel your faith is hanging by a thread, this book is a source of comfort, wisdom, and renewed faith, offering a pathway to a restored sense of peace and a stronger and more profound relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ.

‘We sometimes forget that the purpose of this life is to learn & grow through experience, not to display a flawless performance.’

👉🏼For all of my Christian non-fiction readers, please add this to your TBR immediately👈🏼

I’m not one to binge read non-fiction. Non-fiction reads take me a lot of time. I think A LOT when I read them. They typically cause me to look up sources & do further deep dives into topics, etc.

Despite all of the highlighting, pondering & deeper dives into sources, I could not put this one down.

Even now that I’ve finished I can’t get this one off my mind. I’ve been going back through my notes & highlights & rereading sections.

I’ve been lucky to not have had major doubts in my faith & religion. That doesn’t mean I have all the answers or that I haven’t ever had questions or that Sundays, & living a faith-based life, have always been easy.

Because we live in an imperfect world we are surrounded by imperfect things from people (myself very much included), information, opinions & so forth. These things cause friction, questions, doubts, annoyances & beyond. This book has such great perspectives & scriptural advice to find the root causes of questions, doubt, & other problems while allowing yourself grace that questions & hardships are normal & a part of this life.

‘I believe we can find great insight into our own trials of faith by noticing that Peter’s trial of faith came after he’d already developed a testimony of the Savior. It came after all the spiritual witnesses of truth he’d received.’

The overall message, as you can tell from the title, is to look to the Savior. I’ll end with one final passage from the book🫶🏼

‘Where did Peter turn when he began to doubt? When Peter began to sink, he could have looked back to the boat. He could have pleaded with his fellow disciples to rescue him. He could have looked to himself & his own abilities to swim. But he didn’t. When Peter was sinking in doubt & fear, his years of past experiences with Christ had trained him where to look for help. He looked to the Savior.‘

If you like Christian non-fiction inspirational reads I can’t think of a better book to pick up!

A beautiful way to rebuild your testimony in Christ. We all come from different backgrounds, & have different life stories & these don’t mean anything unless you willing to give Christ the same amount of time that you’re willing to give to other things in your life. If you are struggling with your faith in Christ this book is great way to remind you to where to steer your thoughts & prayers. I have definitely been in at least one of the situations mentioned in this book & my faith was shaken. Thankfully the whole time I had friends who helped me & guided me gently. They were my angels helping me to remember Christ. I recommend this book to those who are trying to reconnect their faith in Christ & for those who are struggling & need some guidance.

If you're seeking a guide to navigate the intricacies of faith, "This Book" is an absolute must-read. As someone who hasn't grappled with major doubts, I was surprised by how profoundly this book impacted my understanding of seeking revelation. It's a treasure trove of insights that not only deepened my connection to spirituality but also left me with a renewed commitment to share the joy of my beliefs with others.

What sets "This Book" apart is its exceptional organization. It serves as a roadmap for those moments when questions of faith arise, offering invaluable advice on when to seek guidance from trusted leaders versus embarking on personal research journeys. One of its greatest strengths is its ability to provide strategies for articulating uncertainties—an invaluable resource for anyone struggling to express their innermost thoughts.

The timeliness of this book cannot be overstated. In a world fraught with uncertainty, its message of hope and resilience resonates deeply. Yet, it's not without its nuances. While some sections may oversimplify the complexities of faith, others offer profound insights that speak directly to the heart of the reader's struggles.

An aspect that particularly struck me was the author's candid acknowledgment of their own limitations. It's refreshing to encounter humility in a genre often dominated by dogma. By acknowledging the complexity of personal struggles, the author invites readers into a space of understanding and compassion.

In conclusion, "This Book" is more than just a manual for navigating faith—it's a beacon of light in uncertain times. Its wisdom will undoubtedly enrich your spiritual journey and empower you to embrace the transformative power of belief. Whether you're grappling with doubts or simply seeking to deepen your connection to the divine, this book is a worthy companion that will bless your life for years to come.

I recieved ARC of this book. The thoughts are my own.

Great Insights to help when you have doubts.

This presented lots of ways to look to the Savior. Giving 10 principles to help you look to the Savior when you have challenges and questions.

We know that the safe source for knowledge is from Christ. Our life is a test to see how we will do with the obstacles and troubles that we face on our journey. All of us will have our faith tested.

We need to look to the Savior for the answers that we need to receive.

It was well written. I think you will benefit from reading this book, I know I did.

I used this book in my homeschool with my 13 year old. It generated some great conversations and I saw my son applying some of the topics in his search for truth. We both enjoyed listening to this together. It brought a peaceful, non-judgy spirit to questioning and helped open up dialogue that questioning is totally fine and normal.

Some of this one made things seem too easy--just believe. Just obey. And everything will get better. Parts meant more to me and seemed more useful. It's interesting, though, that the author himself admits he has no idea what to do with my own biggest questions/struggles.
