Maja is engaged at a fairly young age and is, mostly unwillingly, waiting to settle down with her future husband at the small island Stormskäret in the Åland archipelago.

I don’t get the hype at all. Nothing special, just the usual descriptions of Scandinavian misery and misogyny of the early 19th century. This is the first book in a series of five. Won’t bother with the other four.
