This book was absolutely delightful. I love Rudy the Roach!!!!!!

Rudy lives in an apartment building in New York. It is an older apartment building - with all the ambience one expects of older apartment buildings.

In that apartment building re many people. But it is four of them - Anna in 2 A - Ben in 2E - Clara in 3D and Derek in 3B - who are the center of this story. In addition to Rudy the Cockroach - who is the hero of this story.

Anna is a nurse at a local hospital. Ben is a criminologist who teaches criminal history. Clara is a pianist who is living in the apartment because her fiance - Thomas - is in the hospital that Anna works at, He is in a coma. Derek is allegedly a business man - emphasis on the word 'allegedly.'

These four people's lives are entertwined in interesting ways.

It all starts with a crime - Thomas is run down by a car late at night and ends up in a coma for many months. Ben inadvertently witnesses the accident - but had remained silent because his reason for being in the area of the accident at that hour of the night was not legitimate.

At the hospital Anna feels drawn to Thomas and vows to do what she can to make sure that he heals. Clara is the ever loyal fiancee.

Rudy the cockroach finds a significant piece of evidence in Derek's apartment about Thomas's accident and miraculously manages to push that piece of evidence through the crack at the bottom of the front door of Derek's apartment and into the hall - where Clara finds it. She goes to Ben for help and then the police are contacted.

Eventually - when the police investigate further - the pieces of the puzzle come together - and Thomas's life is saved.

Apartment 3B gets a new tenant - a writer named Elijah.

Life toes on.

Unfortunately for Rudy - with Derek gone he won't be finding any more joints [roaches]. A roach with a roach - that part made me laugh.

Roach angel

The writing brings to mind the community of many places. The fact that the main character is a roach that puts justice into play is so amusing. I've been in the apartments so fondly referenced here and the imagery is perfect.

The Silent Protagonist

Rudy the roach. An interesting perspective from an unlikely source. Not a word is spoken from the roach. But Rudy observes the occupants of the apartment carefully.

stark contrast

Interesting premise. I ran along with Rudy as he ran hither and yon. I enjoyed the read. Please Mr. Writer, Get rid of the too often used phrase “stark contrast”. Describe it! It’s lazy to just use those words all the time.

A roach that can smoke a roach? A roach that can read? A roach that can sense human emotion? For the creativity of it I give it 3 stars. A simple book.
