My review...

Jennifer Bernard puts a lot of research into these stories, as well as a lot of heart and soul. I find myself always drawn in and enjoying every minute spent reading about these brave, selfless, very hot firemen.

Fred is probably the most down-to-earth man in the series. He's not tortured or tormented, but not exactly self assured. I mean, yeah, he knows his job and does it well, but with a father and brothers who served the military, he sometimes feels like he's not quite enough. But trust me, Fred's got it goin' on. In a big way!

Rachel - I really like her! After a terrifying childhood event, she's led a sheltered life, but she's not naive. She's a caring, compassionate woman and yeah, I really like her. Especially the way she loves Fred with her entire being...the same way he loves her.

**sigh**

Okay, I'm getting mushy now so I'll close this down except to say, if you enjoy fun, sexy, sometimes poignant contemporary romance with real alpha males, do yourself a favor and read these books! I know you'll be glad you did!

The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel, book 6
Fred & Rachel's story

My synopsis:
Fred aka STUD, is one of the last-standing bachelor firemen. He's coming off a martial arts tournament and has Mulligan along playing wingman. They decide to stop into the local bar to celebrate & he soon finds his trophy pilfered by a gal in a veil with a penchant for mishaps.

Rachel leads a normally secluded and overly-protected life for a reason, but when one of her best friends is getting married, she has to celebrate with them. Right? And if that means accepting a dare of stealing Mr. Sexy's trophy, she just has to do it! After all, it IS a dare!

Fred & Rachel have a brief few encounters at the bar, all revolving around Fred pulling her cute little butt out of harm's way, but it's the accident leaving the bar that draws the two closer still. With a paranoid parent, a crazy kidnapper, lingering threats from 17 years earlier and REFUGE isn't always what it seems, this story never has a dull moment.

---

Why did I choose to read this book?
To be honest? I chose it because I have really enjoyed the entire series and Mrs. Bernard's writing syle. She quickly became one of my favorite authors, but in no way does that effect my ability to critique it honestly.

---

Hot Factor: 3

---

My thoughts:
This should not be read as a stand-alone novel.

Mrs. Bernard has truly done her research when capturing the persona, demeanor and general attitude of a fireman. Her heroes have all been sexy, heartwarming and humble. This is the last full-length novel in the series and I, for one, am sad to see it end. I've referred to her writing style in the past as being the equivelant to the tactile sensation of sun-warmed silk sheets or a fountain of flowing, rich dark chocolate. While I found THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN to be extremely easy to read and the flow was perfectly fluid, I did not get the same rich and seductive vibe as from her other books. I think this is because of the character persona that was built up by his colleages throughout the series. I viewed him as "the kid" or "the little brother" that the bigger boys liked to lovingly pick on.

I have truly enjoyed this series as a whole, THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN is a wonderful concluding novel. Fred's light & joy truly made me smile countless times. Rachel's stubborn determination made me want to cheer for her. Fred's interactions with Mulligan and Vader made me laugh out loud, especially the scene at Double D's house. The neighbor kids were wonderful & thoroughly enjoyable. The blend of humor and sass are perfectly mixed with the action and intrigue.

The plot was solid. The climax was chaotic, but not in a bad way (More like "when it rains, it pours"). There were a few loose ends that I would have liked seen resolved (ie: the outcome of the refuge & escapees from THE night. Who was TREE?). I'd thought for sure I knew who "he" was, but Mrs. Bernard was NOT that predictable.

Yes, this is one of my favorites in the series so far. I truly fell deeply in love with Fred aka "Stud", one of the Bachelor Firemen. This man is not perfect, but he has a heart of gold. One night he meets Rachel at a bar where she is part of a bachelorette party and the sparks fly. A little while later, Fred and his friend Mulligan end up rescuing the party where they are trapped in their limo.
Rachel is not living her life to the fullest, when she was younger, she was kidnapped and managed to escape herself. Ever since then, her uber-rich father has done everything to keep his only child safe. Rachel even goes by a different last name so that she is less of a target, and there is also the worry that her kidnapper is still out there and was never caught. Her father then includes hiring Fred as a bodyguard to protect Rachel.
I like Rachel and Fred together. Rachel loves animals, and that is what keeps her going since her kidnapping has left its mark on her including claustrophobia. She is troubled yet strong and the chemistry between them both grows as they spend more time together. Besides their hot attraction, they also butt heads since Fred really cares about Rachel and sometimes he is over protective, with good reason. The danger to Rachel is real and has not disappeared.
This story has it all: humor, energy, a touch of suspense and lots of charm. Fans of this series will not be disappointed.

We finally get to read Fred's story in The Night Belongs to Fireman. Jennifer Bernard has done a great job creating a series about bachelor firefighters who find love and whom I have fallen in love with. I've enjoyed Fred when he's appeared in the previous books and in those, he was portrayed as the fun, loving, flirtatious bachelor fireman who makes you laugh. In this story, Fred is more serious but still as sweet and heroic as ever. I really enjoyed the scenes where Fred and Rachel meet and the mishaps between them had me smiling and chuckling. There was an immediate attraction but Rachel has been living a sheltered life, surrounded by bodyguards and tight security due to her kidnapping as a young girl. I loved how protective Fred was of her and that he was able to get her to come out of her shell a little bit and the sexual passion between them was totally believable. The story flowed smoothly and I found myself connecting to the characters. It was great seeing past favorites throughout the book and somewhat bittersweet knowing that this wonderful series is coming to an end. I am happy we will have a short Christmas story to read. I have to thank the author for letting us readers go through this journey with her and looking forward to her next series.

The latest addition to a scrumptious series! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:

Fred Breen, one of the bachelor firemen at San Gabriel station 1, has broken up with his girlfriend, unbeknownst to his fellow fire fighters, who cannot stand her. His ex prefers to call it a trial separation, but as far as Fred is concerned, their relationship is over. Off-duty, Fred and his coworker Mulligan stop for a few drinks and encounter a bachelorette party. Fred meets a stunning, but tipsy, beauty named Rachel. Later, as Fred and Mulligan make their way home, they happen upon a limo, which has been smashed in by a crane. The women from the bachelorette party are trapped inside. Fearing that the limo will explode at any time, the men rush to eliminate the threat and get the women out. As the fire department’s newest Urban Search and Rescue member, Fred is usually called out on this type of accident when he is on duty. When the rescue is caught on film by the local media, Fred is labeled the Bachelor Hero and gains instant notoriety, to his chagrin. With three military brothers who put their lives on the line constantly, he figures they are the heroes and objects when anyone refers to him in that way.

Rachel suffers from claustrophobia and being trapped in the limo is setting it off big time. But she refuses to be the first one rescued when the others are hurt worse than she is. At the age of eight, Rachel was kidnapped and kept in a small cage for a month before she finally managed to escape. But her kidnapper has never been found. Ever since then, she has not been able to bear being in tight spaces. Now, her father, one of the world’s foremost experts on computer security and the third wealthiest man in America, makes sure she is protected. Not only does he fear that his daughter’s former kidnapper will try to get to her again, but he is scheduled to testify before Congress in a few weeks and this could also make her a target to get to him. Rachel hates that she has to live in a prison-like environment with a bodyguard always nearby. The one place she feels safe is at the refuge for abused animals which she established and now runs, using her training as a dog psychologist. When it is finally her turn to be rescued from the limo, she finds herself facing something even worse than tight spaces…camera crews. She has kept her identity secret for years, although the media would give anything to get her story. When the media gets a glimpse of Rachel, despite Fred’s attempt to keep her hidden, her father knows she will need additional protection, at least until after he finishes his Congressional appearances. So he hires Fred, who takes a couple weeks off from the firehouse.

As Fred’s new duties keep him close to Rachel, intimacy ensues and Fred begins to fall in love for the first time. But then, Rachel’s past and present collide as her worst nightmare reappears. Will Fred be able to keep her safe this time, or will he lose the woman he loves?
A delicious new BACHELOR FIREMEN OF SAN GABRIEL novel, THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN, the latest by author Jennifer Bernard, is a mysterious, sensual contemporary romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There is an instant chemistry between Fred and Rachel and they are perfect for each other. Fred is a sensitive, protective man and just what Rachel needs while she tries to conquer her past and the issues from it. The other men and women of the firehouse, along with their camaraderie and loyalty to each other add a great deal of appeal to this story.

Although this delectable page-turner is the sixth in the series, it can be read as a standalone, but who would want to, with the availability of five more Jennifer Bernard books filled with hunky firemen and the women they love. As this series draws to a close, Fred is the last bachelor in this firehouse, which started out as all bachelors. Fans of this series can delight in being reunited with all the other firemen and their wives in this deliciously satisfying ending to an awesome series. I really hate to see it end. If you have never read the books in this series, you are in for a treat! I recommend THE NIGHT BELONGS TO A FIREMAN to all those romance readers looking for humor, heat and a heartwarming plot, mixed with danger and suspense. This book is a true gem!

Jennifer Bernard's final full-length novel in the Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel series is everything you can expect from a Bachelor Fireman novel: handsome hero, damsel in distress and hot times. Her hero for this story is the mild mannered Fred Breen, also known as Stud, the nice guy who works behind the scenes and never seems to get the girl. Fred’s the one guy for whom the Bachelor Fireman curse is a real thing. All his co-workers have settled down in happy relationships with the women of their dreams except him. He can’t get a girl to give him her phone number most days. Enter Rachel Kessler, pampered daughter of a technology billionaire, and sparks quite literally fly.

The characters of Rachel and Fred are very different people who run in completely different worlds proving the old saying that opposites do attract. Their personalities clash from day one but they can’t fight the attraction they have for each other. Its proof that you can’t choose the one you love when they meet. Despite their arguing they find common ground somewhere and forge a cleverly written friendship that leads to love.

The premise of Fred as the "last bachelor standing" proves to be hilarious at times with groupies, persistent reporters and even a fan club popping up where you least expect them, adding to the bizarre daily life of Fred Breen. My personal favorite is the constant references to the “I Love Fred” buttons that groupies in the book wear. They pop up everywhere, adding to Fred’s frustration and the reader’s delight.

Supporting characters are a huge plus here with all the previous bachelors making an appearance as well as their love interests. Each one brings their own experiences and story to THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN to help shape the story to its conclusion.

As a fan of the Bachelor Fireman, I'm sad to see them go but I know that Jennifer Bernard has a last hurrah novella with our heroes in turnouts due out in December called IT’S A WONDERFUL FIREMAN.

I totally recommend the series and the book as a wonderful read to make even the grumpiest day better.

But in the meantime, I LOVE FRED!

If your going to get trapped in a limo leaving a bachelorette party the person you want to come to your rescue is definitely Fireman Fred Breen. Rachel sees Fred in a bar and the sparks fly at first sight, this this handsome hero then rescues her from a wrecked limo, but leaves in a flash after in hopes of avoiding the media. After her childhood kidnapping, she avoids the media at all costs to protect herself. When a threat from Rachel's past threatens her future who better to be her bodyguard/hero then Fireman Fred. The more time these two spend together the more their story heats up..

It's no secret to anyone that follows this blog regularly that I am a huge fan of Jennifer Bernard's Bachelor Firemen series. This series has earned any book by Jennifer Bernard a spot on my keeper shelf. I aways think the latest release is my favorite... Night Belongs to Fireman is no exception.
I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this book IS my favorite of the series. Jennifer weaves a fun contemporary romance full of her trademark 5 ALARM FIRE heat, humor and a twisting plot that kept me on the edge of my seat. I gave this book 5 STARS! If you aren't reading this series I strongly recommend you get on the bandwagon.

Disclaimer: I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, as always any opinions expressed here are my own. Side Note: I loved this book so much I pre-ordered a paperback for my bookshelf immediately after I finished reading the ARC copy... it's that good!

I received this one from Edelweiss for the purpose of an honest review. First I must say that I have read all of Jennifer Bernard's Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel books and this one is another hit! As part of a series I'd suggest you read all the books in order, but it is not a must. You can read this one as a stand-alone but you will feel closer to the whole clan if you read them in order. I loved this one. Fred is adorable. There's a touch of suspense added in to keep things moving along nicely. The story overall is fast-paced and engaging. I found the characters believable and enjoyable. The setting as with all the San Gabriel books, makes you want to visit San Gabriel. If you enjoy firemen, romances, and great characters this is one you aren't going to want to miss. Once you start it'll be hard to put down so be sure you can read for an extended time. I highly recommend THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN to one and all!

I truly loved this book about Fred "Stud", one of the only remaining bachelor firemen from San Gabriel. This is the latest book in a series of books by Jennifer Bernard. In this book Fred finally gets to not only have his story, but show he is a bit more than we have thought. He ends up in a relationship with the heroine Rachel, who because of a scarred past, is coming to new realizations about herself. I found this book to be heartwarming and entertaining. It brought me both laughter and at times tears. I highly recommend this book to my friends and fellow readers.

It probably isn't my favorite Bachelor Fireman novel, but it was still a very good read and the best way to end a series. So sad to see it end.

Fred Breen, aka Stud by his fellow firefighters, knows he’s got what it takes to be the best at his job but after coming in second in the Southern California Muay Thai Championships, he’s once more reminded nice guys never win. He’s tired of being Mr. Nice Guy but doesn’t know how to be anything but who he is. He’s allowed his ex-girlfriend to walk all over him for far too long, and even though he’s told her it’s over more than a few times, she doesn’t seem to get the message. Now, as he sits in the City Lights Grill with his buddy, Mulligan nursing his second place win, he’s being reminded yet again by an intoxicated petite brunette wearing a wedding veil that he’s a pushover.

Rachel Kessler is tired of not living her life. Cutting loose with her best friends while celebrating the upcoming nuptials of one, she pushes the limits all the while knowing it’s the champagne talking more so than her inner child wanting to finally break free of the cage she was once held in by a kidnapper. Teasing the good-looking guy with the cheap trophy for second place is easy but when he tries to tell her how to behave, she rebels. She’s tired of everyone telling her how to live her life or rather not live it, and stay safe. When she finds herself trapped inside the limo with her friends after a crane falls on it, it’s the sexy firefighter she teased, and smacked in the nose, who is the one to come to her rescue. Even as she feels everything closing in on her, he keeps her grounded but when she’s faced with the inside of an ambulance, her claustrophobia gets the better of her and she fights to break loose, and runs - just as she did when she was a child.

When her wealthy and over-protective father hires Fred the Fireman to be her 24/7 bodyguard, she balks at the idea and then decides spending so much one on one time with the sexy, handsome, and nice guy, Fred, isn’t such a bad thing after all. She just doesn’t expect her feelings, and her fears, to become so entangled with her heart when she falls for the sexy Bachelor Hero of San Gabriel.

THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN, book six of the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series by Jennifer Bernard is a delightful addition to the series even if it isn’t my absolute favorite. Fred is sexy, protective, and yes, a nice guy although he seems to have some anger management issues at times. It also took me a while to cotton up to him since he seemed overly quick to judge Rachel, but I soon realized it was part of his nature and he was just as quick to apologize – a man who can admit being wrong and genuinely apologize is very sexy in my book. Rachel is broken, still traumatized by events in her childhood yet she wants more, and that makes her strong. She grows stronger and increasingly sure of herself with every moment she spends with Fred until she knows she’s ready to stand on her own. I like Rachel very much and respect her affection for those around her, including her over-protective and controlling father. Marsden is a favorite.

Overall, THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN may not be my favorite in the series, but it’s definitely a fun read, filled with emotion, angst, a mystery, and of course, lots of firefighter hijinks, and action. Jennifer always does an excellent portrayal of firefighters at their best, and this one is no exception.

I highly recommend THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN by Jennifer Bernard whether you’ve read the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series or not. If you haven’t, you should and preferably start from the beginning and enjoy all of the deliciously heroic members of the team, but if you’d like to dip your toe into this wonderful series, by all means, start with THE NIGHT BELONGS TO FIREMAN.

Oh, Fred, you're just such a sweetie. Seriously this guy is so nice, which I know is a terrible thing to say about a guy. Though in this case it's meant well. Fred is a nice guy, often too nice for people. Still in a world full of jerks, this can actually be very refreshing. Don't start thinking puppy nice though, rather think how german shepherds can also be nice, but they have this protective streak. Now as I think of it, that really would be the best animal representation for Fred. Overall a nice little doggie, though he can be tough and protective when it needs to be.

It's mostly Rachel who brings out that other side of him. When she has had one too many drinks on this crazy bachelorette night, Fred sees it as his civic duty to keep her from harm. His intentions were never not honorable, but he's not blind either. He's not quite sure what it is about this mysterious girl and he can't keep her out of his mind. Learning about her past, he definitely realizes there is something more going on between them as he fears for her safety, becoming very protective of her. Though not in that alpha testosterone filled way, Fred's reasonable about it, kind of.

Through "unfortunate" circumstances they now get to spend a lot of time together. Fred and Rachel aren't ones to let an opportunity go to waste, they use this time to get to know each other better in and out of the bedroom. Mostly things look pretty good, but there is always drama waiting around the corner.

I really, really liked this book. Mostly I liked Fred, I'll admit to that. He's just such a great guy and so dreamy. Certainly when you find out about his little bit darker side, which he mostly just shows in the bedroom. That came as a very nice surprise. Rachel is not a bad character. The horror from her past isn't that much in the past as she would like and it's weighing her down. She has a lot of baggage, so it takes a while get into her, without constantly feeling sorry for her. Still when Rachel's together with Fred we get to see this more open and silly side from her, that appealed to me more.

Another fun book in the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series. I simply love the heroes Jennifer Bernard writes and in this series they really are heroes. You read a lot of books about cops and soldiers, though not often we get the chance to be so close to the real fire. These firemen are amazing and I just can not get enough of them.

Fred Breen is having another night out with his colleague when a group of drunk and wild women invades the party. He can’t help his attraction to the small, dark hair woman, despite the fact that she is the weirdest woman he has ever met. He tries to get to know her but she leaves with her friends in a limo that has a freak accident.

Rachel Kessler tries to stay hidden from the public after her abduction as a child. Being the only child of a tech billionaire puts her in at danger. One night at her friend’s bachelorette party puts her back in danger. After Fred saves her, she is scared that the media explosion will put her face on the front line. Not to mention her over protective father decides to hire Fred to be her temporary bodyguard while he gives an important testimony.

Some of the story makes little sense. I didn’t buy the fact that Rachel’s father would ask Fred to be her bodyguard for two weeks when he is just a firefighter. He is a billionaire and could have hired anyone (heck, maybe a Navy SEAL) to be her security detail until he returned from his trip. Somehow he hires Fred without really knowing him. It doesn’t ring true for an overbearing father.

I liked Fred as a stand-a-lone character but Rachel brings little to nothing to the storyline. She has been through a lot but she is almost a shell of a woman at times. Fred is a good choice for her HEA since he is more outgoing and has more dealings with the real world.

Fred’s neighbors add some comic relief throughout the book. The little boys are hilarious. They are in the mix and they embarrass Fred every single time. I love them. I’m glad to see pop ups from some of my favorite characters and I want to know what happens for Mulligan.

I just read on Ms. Bernard’s website that this is the sixth and final installation of the series. However, I see that she has a Christmas novella due this year based on another character. So sad to see the series end.

3.5 stars

Welcome back to San Gabriel. Before we go any deeper into the book, I think I should tell you a few important things about me.
I hated series until I befriended my fellow blogger, Kristyn. I love closure, and series don't often offer that. A few incredible series later I am an addict.
(a) I binge read when it comes to series. If I fall for the 1st book, I cannot wrap my head around another series, another world or whatnot until I have it all.
I found Jennifer Bernard from parties at first. She was the author who always had hotties in fire gear. She also happens to be an Avon author, and I am an #AvonAddict (whoop! whoop!) Lastly, I needed to know what all the hype was about.
I read the first one less than a month ago, and I was dying for this one to come out! Woke up on the 30th, bought it and dove right in. (I was sad to learn this is the last full length novel from Station 1.
I am a quote junkie! I love them, if you haven't figured yet from previous blog postings.
***
Fred, aka Stud, has been one of my favorite supporting characters from the beginning when he correctly guessed the amount of words Kirk said to the cute waitress, or when he dance on a bar sporting just a helmet and an undergarment that read "Light My Fire," and I loved the touching moment he and Vadar shared at Vadar's wedding when he was told once the girls realized how big of a hero he was in his heart - they would be falling over themselves to meet him.

When I first found out this was his story, I was ecstatic. Watching him come out of his shell with each book, you just knew he was going to be an epic leading character. Within the first chapter, Jennifer reveals layers of him that you never could have guessed. After a little celebration, Stud and Mulligan walk into a freak crane accident that causes them to both switch gears to their rescue ways. Enter Rachel. In a smushed limo. As a trained Urban Rescue Search and Rescue member, Fred knew just what to do. He had to keep Rachel talking and remaining calm.
Of all things, she let out a burst of laughter. Slightly hysterical laughter, he noticed, as if she were clinging desperately to her control. "You're Fred the Fireman?"
"Yes." Though he wasn't sure why that was so funny.
"Do you know Thomas the Tank?"
Oh. Now he saw what had set her off. "I'm familiar with his work, yes."
After a long, and successful rescue, the beautiful and funny woman runs away from the crowd. Not before Channel 6 and the insane Ella Joy get the story of a lifetime. Stud suddenly becomes the Bachelor Hero of San Gabriel. While he avoided the media, Rachel was answering to her overprotective father. (And trying to Google what sexy fireman like as thank yous!)
"I'll be careful, Dad. I promise. I mean, I already live like a nun. but I'll try to kick it up a notch to saint."
Fred and Rachel have this spark that neither will deny, but there is something keeping them from getting things going. Not in the physical sense, because Rachel leaves him so hot he finds himself muttering nonsense like "Lamp chops," he chanted under his breath. "Cod liver oil. Creamed spinach. Bugs in my cereal milk." just so he doesn't embarrass himself with his obvious attraction to her when the doorbell rang.

I love getting to catch up with my favorites from the previous books. Vadar being one of them. And now that he is Captain Brown it is a blast to see him adjust to that role while keeping his goofy side.
Fred groaned. "She's trying to pressure me. But I'm not giving in. If I ever seem like I might give her an interview, I want you to tie me to this hose tower and stuff a rag in my mouth."
"Kinky," said Vadar approvingly. "Didn't know you had it in you."
Fred has always been a favorite of his fellow firefighters at Station 1, just never got the attention the others did. This causes his brothers and sisters to protect with a fierceness that is heart warming. Rachel's past is slowly revealed and Fred just doesn't think he is enough for a woman so perfect. Rachel deserved the best, someone who could both protect her and give her the world. Maybe a combination of Rambo and... Prince William. And Bill Gates, for good measure. It's thoughts like this, getting his sister to Ninja-sit while he was away, kittens and his humor that makes him the most well-rounded male lead. (In my opinion)

The humor amongst the firefighters will continue to be my favorite thing in this series. It is strong friendships like these that everyone needs. While everyone (Rachel included) headed to Double D's house to pack, Jennifer wrote my favorite line.
"She'll be satisfied," said Fred smugly. "It's a bedroom, isn't it? And they call me Stud, don't they?"
I almost died when reading Stud say this to Double D about Mrs. Double D. And then, I had to quickly read on to make sure he didn't get a broken nose from the smart-mouthed comments he loves. Will I tell you anymore about the ups and downs in this story? Nope! It was a doozy though. Want another list? I can give you some teasers!
There are bumper cars and bowling.
Talk about Thor and throwing apartments.
A kidnapping or two, and a villian named after a leafy green.
A wedding
A Fred Breen fan club with buttons! (Jennifer, you need to make these! I want one!)
A wonderful ending tying everyone back together again dishing about the life of loving a firefighter.
Seriously, though. Jennifer ended it so perfectly. I loved the final thing Fred did for Rachel. He wanted her to know what she was getting into. And those women... too funny! I loved getting to see Katie, Cherie, Lara and Melissa chat away with Rachel watching in awe. (Even getting to hear about Nita, Maribel and Sabina was a blast!)
I feel a little empty knowing I am just about done with Station 1. I thought I was done, until someone told me that there is a novella coming out for Christmas. (Yes! Santa really does listen!) I enjoyed this series from start to finish, and there wasn't one book I didn't absolutely love 110%. Even though, the evil Ella Joy reared her ugly head all over the place - I still would give this series a FIVE! Jennifer offers you so much more than a good old fashioned love story with this series. You get unbreakable friendships, dreams being made and broken, real life issues being brought to life and so much more. A reader can't find themselves bored when you dive into the crazy world of San Gabriel's famous Station 1 and all it's former bachelor's! Before I leave you with all the ways you can go show Jennifer some love (besides buying these amazing books!) I want to share one last quote, another one of my favorite parts of Rachel and Stud's HEA.
"I've never shown up for dinner at a half-naked man's house before."
"At least I had pants on."
"Yes, that was extremely disappointing," she said gravely, making him laugh.

Daring . . . Sexy . . . Irresistible . . .
They're the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel

When fireman Fred Breen rescues a bachelorette party after a construction crane collapses onto their limo, the media labels him the "Bachelor Hero." But all Fred can think about is the petite brunette with the sexy mane of dark curls who bolted away from him faster than a wildfire after he carried her to safety. And when he discovers she's none other than Rachel Kessler, the daughter of a tech billionaire, the girl whose kidnapping riveted the nation, he intends to learn every intimate detail about this intriguing woman who sets his pulse on fire.

Rachel can't deny the lean-muscled firefighter is smokin' hot. But after having one too many drinks at the bar where she first meets him, Rachel knows she's made a fool of herself. Yet when he rescues her from the limo, she feels safe for the first time since she was held for ransom as a child. Then her overprotective father insists Fred be her bodyguard—and his close presence kindles a burning desire that only he can extinguish.

Review:

Before this book I would have had to say that Patrick (Psycho) was my favorite Fireman, but sorry Patrick....Fred is number one in my book.

Now, that my heart belongs to Fred, I also have to say that I think this my favorite book in the Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel. I love Ms. Bernard's writing style, she makes you feel like you really know these great guys and gals. Her books are so rich in detail, that you can tell she puts a lot of thought and research into her stories.

Now, back to my wonderful Fred (Stud) Breen. There is so much more to him than I previously thought, he is caring, smart, sexy, daring and truly a hero. I think the Author did a great job of giving him a well-rounded persona and making him an excellent leading man. I loved the first scenes between Rachel and Fred in the bar they were witty you could see the sparks already. Poor Rachel has been sheltered most of her life because of being kidnapped as a child. I like that even though that fear is still with her, she does not let it stop her from trying to do live life the way she wants.

This story has lots of action, suspenseful moments and a few twists and turns to keep readers engaged. Now, this is book #6 in the series and though it can be read alone, to get your full enjoyment you should really read them in order.

My new favorite in the series!

What I love about this series is that it is so light-hearted and fun. The guys at the fire station are goofy, hot, and heartbreakingly adorable. Fred might be the most adorable. He's just so honorable and modest. His friendship with the father-less boys across the street was downright sweet. He and Rachel were, again, adorable. A lot of my notes have that word in it, I just cannot think of another adjective to more aptly describe their relationship. Even when they were trying to play off their attraction, I just wanted to smoosh their faces together & say "kiss!"

As much as I loved Fred and Rachel, I was kind of removed from the actual romance of it. Maybe because they are so young (Rachel is 25, but I cannot remember if Fred's age is mentioned). I might be more used to more mature (age-wise) characters. It felt like I was watching & cheering for my little cousin falling in love. There's nothing wrong with that. I cannot have a visceral attraction to every romance character I read about (and it's a lot).

There was a thriller aspect to this story because Rachel's kidnapper was still at large and it really added a lot to the story because they cannot just sit around being adorable all day long and it also served as a good obstacle to their relationship. I was kind of on the edge of my seat during those moments in the book. I am sad that this is supposed to be the last book in the series because it's just so fun. I enjoyed watching Rachel come out of her shell and taking charge of her life. She was stunted emotionally and always under the protection of her father and her security detail, so it was a relief when she finally breaks away (well...kind of). And Fred's confidence in himself and honorable nature made him a great heroic character.

This is my favorite Fireman from San Gabriel Fire Dept, Fred the Bachelor Hero. Other than he does not think he is a hero. He meets Rachel, an animal lover and a haunted past. He becomes a private body guard for Rachel, to help protect her from a killer. This is fast paced story that I could not put down. It was great to meet up with other firemen and their wives.
Even though this is a part of series, you can jump in with this book and will not be lost. Once read though you will want to read all of the other books by Jennifer Bernard.
I received this book from Edelweiss for an honest review.

This was a great book, in spite of the cheesy/sleazy cover and title. I've enjoyed this series by Ms Bernard immensely. Although characters from previous books reappear, they can be read as stand alones.

The plot line moved along and the characters were well-drawn.

Good book and fun read. Fred has been a background character in the previous books in the series. He is the nice guy who never seems to get the girl. As this book opens, he and Mulligan are in a bar, celebrating Fred's second place win in a prestigious martial arts competition. He's not all that happy about coming in second but accepts it. Things start to get interesting when his trophy is grabbed by an extremely tipsy young woman from a bachelorette party. Rachel has definitely had too much to drink and it has caused her to leave her normally cautious attitude at the door. There are immediate sparks between the two, but they don't expect to see each other again. However, as the girls leave the bar, their limo is involved in an accident, trapping them in the car. Fred and Mulligan are first on the scene, with Fred taking the lead on extracting the girls. Rachel suffers from claustrophobia and Fred is able to keep her settled throughout the rescue. Rachel is amazed by how safe she feels with him. But when the media shows up at the accident scene, Rachel panics and flees.

Rachel was the victim of a kidnapping when she was a child. She was kept in a small cage for a month before she was able to escape on her own, which is the cause of her phobia. Her kidnapper was never caught, and continues to taunt her father. Since then, her super protective father has kept Rachel fairly isolated. She uses an assumed name in her career as a dog therapist and avoids media exposure that could reveal who she is.

I liked both Fred and Rachel. Fred is a nice guy who excels at his job. He's very modest and is irritated at being hailed as a hero. He considers what he did as just part of his job. He thinks hero is a title that belongs to people like his brothers and father who are all military and doesn't see that what he does is just as important. He is also a guy that doesn't like to hurt people's feelings, which has put him at a disadvantage with his ex-girlfriend. She refuses to believe that he has ended the relationship, and there are some pretty funny scenes as he tries to convince her that they are done. He's also great with kids, as is shown by his relationship with three fatherless neighbor boys. There are a couple hysterical scenes with the boys as they attempt to help Fred with his relationship with Rachel. I loved his relationship with his sister, which also shows his sweet and sensitive side, though he tries to hide it. Rachel starts out as something of a bird in a cage. She is still haunted by the memories of her kidnapping and the knowledge that the kidnapper has never been caught. Her father's over-protectiveness has begun to bother her, and she looks forward to those times when she can escape it. She feels most free when she is at the wildlife refuge, working with the animals. She can also be very determined when she wants something.

I loved the development of their relationship. There are sparks between them from the beginning, but Rachel doesn't trust easily. Fred is fascinated by Rachel, but when he finds out who she is he's convinced there's too big a gap between them. He is a bit of a jerk when he gets her full story, but quickly realizes he overreacted and apologizes (love a guy who can admit when he's wrong!). When Rachel's father convinces Fred to take on a short term job as Rachel's bodyguard, the sparks really begin to fly. One of the things I loved best about Fred was the way that he treated Rachel as an adult and was honest about why he was there. It was awesome to see them take this time to get to know each other and become friends. But the attraction was simmering beneath the surface the entire time, as both of them tried to ignore the attraction that was building between them. When they finally give in to it, it brings a whole new level of intimacy to their relationship. Fred's belief in her helps Rachel begin to believe in herself and she starts to really stand on her own. Her new independence is challenged when a kidnapping attempt snags Fred instead of her. I loved seeing her strength as she makes an unexpected decision about her life in order to help Fred. It doesn't all go smoothly as her actions run up against a couple of his issues and words are exchanged. And when Rachel's past reaches out to her, it's up to Fred to save her. I loved seeing how they both finally realized the truth of their feelings and that love can overcome a multitude of obstacles.

One of the best things about this series is the relationships among all the firefighters. The teasing is constant, always fun and occasionally blush inducing. I loved the scene where Fred, Rachel, and the others help Double D and his wife with the packing. Fred becomes the target of quite a bit, but also holds his own with some snappy comebacks. Underneath it all is the knowledge that your fellow firefighters have your back when it's needed. The wives are just as tight as the firefighters. I loved the ending as Fred wants to make sure that Rachel knows what she's getting into, and asks the wives to fill her in. I loved what they had to say and Rachel's reaction to it all.

Actual rating 1.5 stars.

Firefighter/fighter meets wealthy girl. Firefighter/fighter saves wealthy girl's life. They fall for each other but can't communicate their feelings correctly and continuously hurts each others feelings. Wealthy girl needs a bodyguard because her regular ones aren't cutting it anymore. (???) Wealthy father hires fireman to be her bodyguard. Kidnappers beware.

It was entertaining at times. But I had a ton of issues with this book.

1. The main characters.
Rachel was a wealthy heiress, at a very young age she survived a brutal kidnapping attempt where she was held for weeks in a cage. She saved herself with the help of a dog. She is (rightfully so) cautious and scared of small spaces. She first presents herself as a strong person who wants to put the past behind her and live her life. She then spends the rest of the book bringing up the past, and cowering over everything. I wanted to like her, I wanted her to be strong and amazing, but she was so ridiculous. She was childish and not very smart. After a while she seemed to start every sentence with "you wouldn't understand." THEN EXPLAIN.

Fred was a fireman but also a fighter, which was almost like an afterthought. Like they needed a reason why he would be a good fit as a bodyguard without any training. Make him a really good fighter and boom, you got yourself a bodyguard. He was a more rounded out character but not by much. He was whiny at times, and a big freaking jerk. There was a point where Rachel confided in him and told him who she really was and why she was afraid of the media, and he flips out and starts yelling because he can't handle how rich she is. He scares her so much that SHE TRIPS THE PANIC ALARM. Lets review, she tells him that she was kidnapped when she was younger by a brutal man and kept in a cage, and he proceeds to start yelling because he feels threatened by her wealth.

2. The plot.
Okay, so at first it seemed like the plot was just about the two characters working to put aside their differences and impressions. But then it veered off into a romantic suspense novel which was rushed and ridiculous.I had so many questions about the whole bodyguard thing. For example, why would her super wealthy father hire Fred to be a bodyguard when she already has some? Why not just get better bodyguards? Why not tell your damn daughter about the continuous threats toward her?

3. the ending.
REALLY?

However I did enjoy the witty dialogue, and Rachel's work with animals was cool. Some of the secondary characters were cool and funny. But the good did not outweigh the bad. I'm not going to be reading any more of this series.

The Night Belongs To Fireman by Jennifer Bernard is the final novel in her Bachelor Firemen series. My opinion is that it can be read as a stand-alone; but to understand fully all of the characters that appear in this book you should read the previous books.

Fred Breen, known as "Stud" is the last bachelor at Station 1 in San Gabriel. He is smart, funny, caring and protective of his family and friends. He loves his job as a fireman and it shows. It was nice to see Fred really come into his own in this story.

Rachel has lived a very sheltered life because of her kidnapping at the age of eight. She escaped on her own but the kidnapper was never caught. Her very rich father has been very, very protective of her ever since the incident. Needless to say, Rachel has a lot of baggage. However, she can also be very determined to accomplish a goal within her confined and structured life.

I liked the two of them together and enjoyed watching their relationship develop. The plot was solid with humor, heat and some twists and turns. The story flowed with lots of detail. It's obvious that Jennifer did her research into fire and rescue. It was so much fun to revisit with the other men and women from Station 1 in this book. Thanks, Jennifer, for bringing them all back for a short visit.

I understand that there will be a Christams novella out soon. I look forward to reading it though it will be bittersweet reading knowing that this the last of the Bachelor Fireman series. It's been an enjoyable series with those tough alpha firefighters with hearts of gold.

The Night Belongs to Fireman is Jennifer Bernard’s sixth book in the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel. I have read all of the books in the series and I think this one is my favorite not because of Fred Breen or Rachel Kessler the hero/heroine but because of the story Ms. Bernard told. I was totally engaged from the outset. I loved how Ms. Bernard opened the story with Fred sitting in a bar after one of his martial arts tournaments and is greeted by Rachel who’s wearing a bridal veil and is attending a bachelorette party at Mulligan’s. Instantly, I felt their attraction and when Fred has to rescue her from an accident scene one sees the compassionate side to this firefighter. Rachel has lived a sheltered life from the age of eight when she was kidnapped and held hostage. She has only a handful of friends that she met in college. Rachel learns to trust Fred while he acts as her bodyguard. Her past kidnapping haunts her and culminates with an intense series of events that had me on the edge of my seat. Jennifer Bernard knows how to bring the emotions of her characters front and center. The Night Belongs to Firemen is a standalone book; however, we are treated to many of the characters that were previously introduced in the other Bachelor Firemen books. I highly recommend The Night Belongs to Firemen along with all of the books in the Bachelor Firemen series. I would like to disclose that I received an advanced copy of The Night Belongs to Firemen in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Fred Breen is a member of the San Gabriel fire department and always seems to be in the right place at the right time to save people. Rachael is in the back of a limo with some of her friends, when a crane topples over on it. Fred happens to be at the bar that the women just left and is one of the first people on the scene to help. Their chemistry is electric from the first moment they met. But Rachael has secrets. Will Fred be able to break down the barriers she has built around herself?

I have read and loved every book in the Bachelor or San Gabriel series, but for me, this is the very best of the set. I love Fred – he has always been a fun background character but watching him come into his own was truly enjoyable. I love Rachael and how much depth her character had – from the rescue center, to her relationship with her father.

Night Belongs to Fireman is book 6 in The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series but can easily read as a stand alone. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys firefighter romances or Alpha hero’s. I am very sad to see the series end but it is one that I will read over and over.

I really enjoyed this book. Ms. Bernard has researched her topic and has her finger on the pulse of firefighters!

Fred is the last 'bachelor' fireman. Rachael has a past she tries to hide. When Fred rescues Rachael, she finally feels safe. Wanting the best for his daughter, her father asks Fred to protect Rachael since his actions may put his daughter at risk. Close proximity stirs up feelings in Fred and Rachael, and romance is born!

A great story and I think the last in the series. If that's so, I'll miss the firefighters of fictional San Gabriel!

**Received a copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.**

"The Night Belongs to Fireman" is written by Jennifer Bernard. It's the 6th book in "The Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel" series and can be read as a stand-alone book. I absolutely loved this story! I've read all of Jennifer's books from this series, and honestly, this might just be my favorite book she's written! This book featured the long-awaited story of fireman Fred Breen and Rachel Kessler.

Fred Breen doesn't think of himself as a hero. He thinks his siblings, who are in the military, are heroes. He views himself as a man, who is just doing his job when he saves people. Fred met Rachel Kessler the night of a bachelorette party for one of her friends at a bar. The ladies broke the second place trophy he got from a Muay Thai championship. Fred could tell the ladies were drunk, but he was drawn to Rachel. He made sure the darts didn't hit her when she walked to the restroom, took her away from a guy who wouldn't let go of her, and he saved her and her friends that night when a construction crane collapsed on their limo.

The local tv station gets a hold of this story and quickly labels Fred a hero! They love the bachelor firemen (or previous bachelors) from the San Gabriel station! Fred hates all this unwanted attention. He wants to make sure Rachel is okay because after he rescued her from the limo, she ran away. What he and many people don't know is that Rachel has been using another name. Her father, Rob Kessler, is a billionaire. When Rachel was younger, she was kidnapped, but she managed to escape. The perpetrators are still at large. Rachel is worried the local tv crew got footage of her. Her father still has to testify, so she needs to stay on the down low.

Rachel's father comes up with a brilliant idea. Fred should be Rachel's additional bodyguard. Rachel hates this idea, but Fred agrees to it after he learns the truth about her.

Up until this point, Jennifer's story already captivated me. Both Fred and Rachel are strong, passionate, stubborn characters, but they give it their all in what they believe in and do. Now, when Fred becomes her bodyguard, the story just became even better!

Without giving too much away, you could see Fred and Rachel's relationship grow into something more. They might have tried to not further their relationship since Fred was protecting her, but the chemistry was just there. They were hot together! I also loved seeing all the characters we love from previous novels in this series.

"The Night Belongs to Fireman" had action, suspense, drama, comedy, and romance in this story! Simply put, it was the perfect book! Kudos to Jennifer! Absolutely loved this story! I plan on re-reading it again soon, and everyone needs to put this book on their to-read list!

My first introduction to this story, this book does work alone although the brief insets from characters highlighted earlier in the series will pique your interest. Bernard manages to present Fred, the hero, with enough self-effacing characteristics and a body hardened by his martial arts training to bring instant zing.

And I really liked Fred: the last of the men to get his woman, his self-confidence in his physical exploits are contrasted beautifully with his wavering self-confidence where women are concerned. His ex-girlfriend was a pill, and he first meets Rachel while she is in her cups and behaving badly, picking at him at a bar. Fred just needs to find a better class of women – the ones he meets just don’t realize that nice guys are NOT a dime a dozen, and are far easier to deal with than bad boys or playboys.

After an accident, Rachel’s wealthy father hires Fred to be her bodyguard. Frankly, this whole part of the story had me thinking ‘not again’ poor damsel in distress, incapable of functioning on her own needs burly man to save her. And, Rachel was every bit of that trope, including wholly lacking in self-awareness or determination to overcome or work through her childhood trauma. She can’t trust new people, she can’t abide small spaces, and she doesn’t want to be coddled, BUT she seems singularly unwilling to take the steps to change her situation.

Fred is just the man, with patience that I lack, to deal with Rachel’s issues – real and imagined, and that did make up for his initial response to her bad behavior when they met. Of course, the two are attracted – but they restrain themselves, and let their characters grow and evolve through the story.

To Rachel’s credit, she does learn that Fred offers a safe place to start to stand on her own – and she does, while always trying to inform and convince her father of her love and caring, even as she is moving further away from him to stand on her own two feet. The guys at the firehouse and their interplay adds to the story, as do the growth and connection between Fred and Rachel, into a real relationship that shows potential and feels believable.

Although I haven’t read the earlier books in this series, I am curious about them, as I thoroughly enjoyed Bernard’s deft hand in characterization and development, providing solid interactions and a sense of friendship between the men, and the well-written, if for my tastes, slightly over-burdened heroine.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I really wanted to like this book. The first three Fireman books by Jennifer Bernard were the books that brought me back to contemporary romance. I also love that the series is set in southern California, which is where I live.

This book is about Fred Breen who was mostly comic relief in the other books. To Ms. Bernard's credit, he's still very self-effacing and has some confidence issues. His book would have been great if he had been teamed with someone with some spark and energy to offset him. Instead, he is teamed with one of the most boring heroines, Rachel, that I have ever read. Not only is she incredibly bland, she has a backstory that strains the limits of the amount of suspension of disbelief I'm willing to make and I remember J. Paul Getty getting his grandson's ear after he refused to pay the ransom.

Rachel is part of a bachelorette party and meets Fred in a bar. Later that night he rescues the entire bachelorette party from their limo when it's struck by a crane. Rachel has claustrophobia and is overwhelmed by being shut up in the limo so she runs away.

It turns out that she is the daughter of the third richest man in the US and was held for several weeks by a kidnapper when she was eight. Rachel lives her life under very tight security since the kidnapper was never caught. Fred is hired as a temporary security guard while her father is giving congressional testimony for two weeks.

I didn't have a problem with Fred's various insecurities since that just makes him normal. I didn't have a problem with Rachel giving in to her dad's need to have her protected because he obviously loves her. I just don't buy that her circumstances would make her such an incredibly bland person. Even if they would guarantee that, the pairing of the blandness of Rachel with the self-effacing quality of Fred does not make for interesting reading. One of them has to be interesting to bring out the best in the other. The situation wasn't helped by the lack of any side plots or the sense that the characters were just created for the sole purpose of this book and would just evaporate after the last page.

I was hoping this book would be about the elusive One or Joe the Toe. According to her website, Ms. Bernard's next series will be about baseball players.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher Avon via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date is September 30, 2014.

I did not realize when I requested this book that it is part of a series. While previous characters were mentioned and it is apparent there were back stories about them that had unfolded in previous instalments this book can be read as a stand alone novel. While it would have been interesting to know these stories they did not impact the ability to enjoy this one.

Bernard did a great job creating the perfect swoon worthy male character. A physically smoldering guy with the personality of a genuine nice guy. I liked the fact that he did not have the arrogance that sometimes dominates this genre of read. The fact that he was always there in a sticky situation made me hope that there are men like this in real life (I was lucky I found one of them!).

This story follows the typical formula where there is instant chemistry between the two characters and they deny themselves succumbing to it for their own various reasons until it becomes too much. An interesting plot is woven between the romance with the story of the kidnapper and overall it blends well. I managed to finish the story in less than a day.

For those who like a romance with some steam and a plot then I would recommend this read. I will be going back to read the rest of the series as it appears there are quite a few books in it. Who doesn't want to read about a firehouse full of hot men???

I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Fireman Who Loved Me was the first e-book I ever purchased, and I've been hooked on this series ever since. These men are absolutely lovable. The books all make you feel a myriad of emotions, from happiness with the laugh-out-loud moments, to extreme tension and worry with every fire call and rescue, to heart-stopping panic when something goes wrong, to lust-filled, emotional moments that you never want to end.The Night Belongs to Fireman delivers on this perfect formula, and you won't be able to put this book down once you've started. Fred and Rachel have such great chemistry. Even though they come from different worlds, they are just perfect for each other. You will laugh and cry along with the characters. You will want to be Rachel's best friend and want to have Fred rescue you from, well, just about any situation. The history that is built for Rachel give so much depth to her character that you feel for her, even though she's the daughter of the third richest man in America. Fred is such a great hero (but don't call him that to his face, he's a bit touchy). I love that he saves kittens, promotes his favorite charities, helps anyone in need, yet doesn't see himself as being heroic. He's so honorable and good, he has every woman in San Gabriel drooling over him. Having the firemen and wives from the previous novels reappear really ties all the books together. It's like a family reunion when they show up. I would recommend this series to any romance lover. This book is steamy, funny, romantic, suspenseful, and so much more!

Who doesn't love smokin' hot firefighter? Especially, one that is willing to bed over backwards to help when you are in need. Fred Breen is that guy. Come on he's probably the type of guy would give the shirt off his back if you need one. When he's sees a damsel in distress, he's going to come to her rescue, even if she believes she doesn't need any help. Now Rachel has her father always looking out for her, and she would like a little more freedom. When Fred approaches her, she automatically assumes he's in cahoots with her father. Eventually she realizes he's not. First off, they have a rocky start cause she's very secretive on her true identity and when he finds out the truth he's shocked.

Fred is a sweet caring guy. Rachel is a bit leery about people in general, and who can blame her when she was kidnapped when she young. However, she feels comfortable and safe around Fred. I like that the story isn't an instant love once Fred becomes her bodyguard. You start to see the trust to build between them, and they have a hard time dealing with their attraction to one another. You have Rachel who is use to people fawning over her cause of her dad, but she doesn't know how to handle Fred.

Honestly, I did enjoy The Night Belongs to Fireman, because you have a nice guy that is a super hot fireman, and some fun witty moments. Overall, I enjoyed the book, and there are others who might too.
