The forecast for Christmas in Sevier Oak, Tennessee is rain with a high chance of a humbug. But Garnet Stone won’t let the gloomy weather ruin her first holiday with new boyfriend, Leo Voss, including a storm cloud named Drake.
Leo’s grandpa doesn’t approve of his grandson dating his bookstore’s rival. During an author signing at Voss-of-Books, Garnet attends to support Leo and hopes to demonstrate her worth to Drake. What should be a straightforward plan crumbles. Author Yasmin Starr is a shameless flirt and sets her sights on Leo. Shortly into the signing, Yasmin takes a break - and goes missing.
Garnet helps with the search, only to find Leo standing over Yasmin’s body on the rooftop. While the police turn to him as their primary suspect, Garnet strives to prove he’s not the culprit.
Yasmin made plenty of enemies in her brief visit to Sevier Oak and the suspects list is as long as a tangled strand of Christmas bulbs. Can Garnet bring the real killer to justice?
Jessica Brimer is a Tennessee native who spends most of her time writing and far more time browsing the bookshelves at her local library. Growing up, Jessica was fascinated with the mystery genre, which sparked her desire to write them. If she isn't spending time with her two kids and husband, you can almost always find her dabbling with essential oils while reading something mysterious.
"Up On the Bookshop, the Body Fell" is book #3 in the "Messy Bookshop Mystery" by Jessica Brimer.

My thoughts: The core characters of this series are an interesting blend. Family, friends, co-workers and a few not so friendly characters add to the mix with interesting quarks, relationships and dialogue.
Yasmin was a shameless flirt who used people and liked to stir the pot. It wasn't a surprise that she was killed but of all the people she'd crossed - who had the strongest motive? There certainly wasn't any love loss with members of her family or her ex husband. Same with a pompous fellow author who bad mouthed her every chance they got.
Even so, the cops seemed to be focused on Leo. Garnet has been warned off sleuthing to catch the killer but since her boyfriend Leo is a prime suspect and the rumor mill is in overdrive she sees no choice but to clear his name. Her boss at the bookstore, Jane, is more than willing to help any way she can. Of course, there was also the inevitable close call before the killer was taken down.
Admittedly, I had figured out "who done it" well before the reveal, but really wasn't sure of the motive. The explanation of how and why was well done!
Subplots kept the story from getting too bogged down. It took awhile, but Regan was finally ready to talk about the familial ties with him and Garnet. (WOW! I'm sure there will be more on that front in future books...) Stone's latest retirement hobby will have many readers shaking their heads and laughing out loud!! The bookstore cats, Princess and Butterscotch can be a bit of a handful. Leo's dog Jade is loyal and protective. Romances, rumors and a bit of holiday spirit also added to the enjoyment of this read!
I very much enjoyed this addition to Jessica Brimer's Messy Bookshop Mysteries! I love the characters and the banter that happens between them is hilarious! I think this is Jessica's best work so far, in my opinion. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves a holiday cozy mystery, a love that conquers all, humour that'll make you LOL, and a good murder to solve that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Curl up in a nice Duvet on a stormy night and read this wonderful book. Or, read while suntanning on the beach. It doesn't matter what time of year you read this, you'll love it anyways!
Up On the Bookshop, the Body fell is the third book in the Messy Bookshop mysteries. It's set at Christmas in the town od Sevier Oaks, Tennessee, and has bookseller Garnet Stone attending a book signing at Voss of Books, the other bookstore in Seviers Oaks managed by her boyfriend Leo and her least biggest fan Drake, Leo's grandfather. The author, Yasmin Starr, ends up flirting with Leo and is later found on the roof of Voss of Books. Garnet has yet another case on her hands and it was great to let again have her as the sleuth. A fun holiday mystery even in April
This installment didn't work for me. The mystery of too convoluted. I kept forgetting who people were. The writing could hVe beem smoother. The whole set up/situation we're in is too depressingbfor the tone of the seroes (in my opinion). There aren't enough bookstore shenanigans to balance it out. Also, not interested in the family drama. Not wild about the direction this series appears to be going in.
This is the first book I have read by this author (I'm mostly reading Christmas books this month). I liked the setting and the characters. There were times when the phrasing was a bit awkward or words seemed to be missing. In other words, I liked it, but I didn't love it.
