The strongest cage is made of lies… Cosseted heiress Keanna Backus is business-smart and street-naive. Something she’s kept off her resume? That she’s an untrained banshee armed with a unique—and deadly—wail. After an accident leaves Keanna with blood on her hands, she is snatched from the streets by criminals determined to weaponize the “beast” lurking within her.
If Prague is a chessboard, Arwood Sayer rules one side—and he needs Keanna, his new pawn, to find his missing daughter. Forced into service alongside Arwood’s henchmen, Keanna realizes that mastering her inner beast is the only way to outwit a man who is always two steps ahead of her.
Her only ally is another prisoner, a mage called Silas. He’s just as charismatic as he is secretive, and he has his own reasons for working with Arwood. As their forbidden relationship develops and Keanna sinks further into the world she is desperately trying to escape, she soon discovers earning her freedom may cost not just her heart—but everything she’s ever known to be true.
This series is for you You love the idea of the night-luxe mafia aesthetic meeting leather-wearing, CW-TV-show-style supernaturals in a European setting. Oh, and a romantic plotline that has feels and spice. It’s perfect for fans of Laura Thalassa, Maria Lewis, Lana Pechercyzk, Richelle Mead, Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series and Ilona Andrews.
Control My Night is a fast-paced new adult urban/paranormal fantasy that features steamy slow-burn forbidden romance, found family, morally grey characters you’ll adore, forehead kisses, and the occasional explosion. It is the first in a planned standalone trilogy featuring different couples in a criminal underworld where mafia and supernaturals mix, and power changes hands regularly.
Sarah is an award-winning author of slow-burn, high-stakes fantasy romance.
Born and raised in Australia, she spent her hot summer days inside reading, saving money on SPF, and being an overachiever at school. These days, Sarah’s a serial cookie-in-tea dunker and Spotify playlist curator and adores writing paranormal & urban fantasy romance filled with morally grey characters you’ll fall in love with (against your better judgement), forehead kisses, and the occasional explosion.
She graduated from the University of Queensland with a degree in Communications and—when she’s not travelling—resides in Brisbane, Australia with her partner, a stack of TBR books she promises she’ll read someday, and a growing array of indoor house plants. They’re still alive. She thinks.
Geez, how do you put into words what one of the best books you’ve ever read means to you??? I don’t know but here we go:
Control My Night by Sarah L Richhelm is everything my supernatural loving heart wanted — it has decadent urban settings, mages with some VERY COOL abilities, stolen kisses in lush gardens and libraries in mansions with secret tunnels. It was action packed and emotional right from the start, with plot twists and turns and SO much fun. Sarah has such a unique writing style that somehow manages to make you laugh in the middle of an emotional breakdown. Her prose is soooo easy to read and lets you fall into the story. The characters were the type of characters that wiggle their way into your heart and make you feel like you’ve known them your whole life. And they were HOTTIES 🔥 (BACK UP EVERYONE, ARWOOD IS MINE)
And underneath all of this, this story is about finding your power, and breaking out of your cage. I related so much to the themes, and to the main character and her people pleasing tendencies, her struggles of finding her inner strength and being afraid to embrace it. Of discovering who she is. Keanna is brave — not because she’s fearless but because she isn’t. Because she does have fears, but she’s so determined to get what she wants that she does the dang thing anyway. I found this to be so inspiring because it made me feel like I’m capable of doing certain things too, even if I’m afraid (don’t you just love it when books make you feel SEEN?????)
This story was written for those people — the scared ones, the ones who don’t know how amazing and bad ass they are yet. The ones that haven’t discovered their power. The ones struggling to break out of their cages.
To the author, Sarah, thank you for writing this book. For making me feel seen. For creating one of my favorite stories I’ll ever read. These characters, this book — they’ve latched onto my heart and I want MORE. I can’t wait to read every single thing you ever write. You are one of my favorite authors 🫶
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this book and really enjoyed it!
I will say that it took me a bit of time to get into the story (but this may be because I’m not typically an urban fantasy reader). However, once it picked up, it really picked up! I hit a point in the story and genuinely couldn’t put it down. Im such a sucker for angsty, slow-burn romance and this definitely delivered 🌵
Thank you so much to Sarah for letting me read your debut! It was so frikking good I can’t believe it!
This book was unlike anything I’ve read in a long time and a stunning tribute to all the paranormal/urban fantasies from the 2010’s, with a mafia twist. AMAZING! Sarah’s writing is crisp, decadent and just so unbelievably good!
Despite the large cast of characters, each one of them is unique and well developed. Anika was my favourite by far. I audibly laughed at some of her lines😆 Keanna, our FMC, grew into her strength and I loved watching her evolve over the book and accept her powers. And Silas… ugh! What a cutie! I just loved him and his desire to keep Keanna safe whilst hiding his affections.
There was one scene in particular that killed me—In a good way. I’m talking spicy with some added spice 🌶️👀. I think I read it twice. Wahooooo.
CANT WAIT FOR BOOK TWO 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Read if you like: - paranormal/urban fantasy setting - a FMC who learns her worth - a swoon worthy, gorgeous romance - Badass sidekicks - mafia with super powers - lots of action to get your heart racing! - open door spice

I wish I could rate this higher than 5 stars! I had the privilege of reading this ARC as my first ever ARC and I don’t know how you could top it.
“Control My Night” is amazing, I loved every moment of it.
Urban fantasy? Check ✅ Mafia vibes? Check ✅ Banshees and mages? Check ✅ Spice? Check ✅ This book has it ALL.
Hooked from the very first page, the story moves at a great pace with great characters and amazing descriptive details. It features unpredictable twists and turns that, when I thought I had it all figured out, surprised me and went a whole different way!
I will think about this book every time I hear Africa by Toto.
Loveable relatable characters and a great plot, I really didn’t want this book to end! “Control My Night” has easily become one of my favourite reads of the year and I’m so keen to read more from Sarah.
Control My Night is a fun mafia meets X-Men novel that's set in modern day Prague with a hint of early 2000s nostalgia.
I won't recant the premise because you can read the blurb, but this book was fun and captivating from the banshee lore to the found family to the world building. Watching Keanna grow from a timid girl, terrified to use her powers to a badass was satisfying. The slow burn relationship and dash of spice was well done. And the side characters...ah! Chef's kiss. I loved so many of the side characters and was actually sad a couple didn't get more page time.
Control My Night is certainly an escape from reality and worth the read!
Thank you to Sarah for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Control my Night by @sarahlrichhelm 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 What can I say... I am absolutely flawed by this book. I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC copy of this debut urban fantasy and it totally exceeded my expectations. It was such an intense read, action packed, with building tension from the first pages. I love a good slow burn romance, but pair it with forbidden love (plus a cute nickname!) and I'm a total gonner! The FMC was so relatable, I loved that we meet her before she transforms and steps into her power! The constant battle between her head and heart to find where her morals and true allegiance lie was so well crafted. I could not put this book down, every chapter felt like I had unfinished business to keep reading, and I'm not afraid to say I lost many hours of sleep flying through these pages! The ribbons of romance winding through the story add the nicest hint of spice, and I really hope we see more of these characters in another instalment! This will be a book I go back to and re-read, I can't wait to add a physical copy to my 5 star shelf!!
Such a fun read! If you are a fantasy fan but need a break from Fae and complex world building this is the read for you! I loved how the author put modern times and problems with super natural powers. If you are a mafia romance reader but are interested in fantasy this would be a great first book to read! I would read this book a 2nd time!
Control My Night was everything I love in a book + everything I didn't know I was going to love. There's violence, mystery, romance, action, and of course, some heartwarming themes of learning to embrace who you are and overcoming daddy issues—both tragically relatable for a lot us "new adult" women reading in the "new adult" category, I'm sure.
I've never read a banshee story, let alone a banshee/mafia/romance story, and this book really did deliver on all three promises!
I love the way Sarah took the time building up the characters and all their dynamics during the first half of the story for a really explosive second half. I quickly went from reading along casually, appreciating the really lovely prose (seriously, just some gorgeous lines in there) and becoming intrigued by all the characters Keanna found herself surrounded by, to flipping pages with that frantic "I have to know what happens next" feeling. The gradual buildup over the course of the book is so well-executed, and the ending wraps up all the character conflicts in a satisfying way.
Also, I won't elaborate when I can sum it up concisely, but—super hot villain alert?
Overall, would recommend this book to anyone who loves their urban fantasy with gorgeous European vibes, powerful FMCs who come into their own, equally powerful love interests who are adorably self-sacrificing, funny cool-girl besties, underground crime rings, and a healthy spattering of mystery.
-- I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sarah has a fan in me! I loved this urban fantasy with morally grey characters (you will NOT find any cinnamon rolls here...everyone has a price).
I loved the gritty Prague she created for this world of sinister gangs and devastating magic. I love that Sarah sets up this world where you immediately realize that everything is not as it seems and it is going to be a rocky road moving forward.
Keanna, the FMC, does alot of growing up along the way. She has a deathly power she is living in the shadow of and she it fun to watch her come into her own and make decisions from a place of power not fear. I loved the interactions between her and Silas throughout the book. The tension between them is so fun to read.
The plot is a twisty ride of underground gangs, powerful men, dangerous deals, and "wtf just happened moments."
I am absolutely sold, when I saw that it was urban fantasy (my favourite genre) mixed with mafia vibes and had a good bit of spice (my other favourite genre) I was in, hook line and sinker! Not only were the vibes immaculate but the pace of the whole story kept you on the edge of your seat and I found it impossible to put down! The author delivered on the urban fantasy (modern day Prague *sighs wistfully* with mages and other supernaturals), mafia (rival gangs fighting it out for control) and spice (the spice spiced *wink wink nudge nudge*). I also loved how the author portrayed a healthy non toxic relationship between the MC and her love interest and dealt with all the other adult themes throughout in a healthy responsible way. It’s safe to say I cannot wait to see what other delights this author brings into the world. I can also confirm the book hangover is real, so beware…
I got to the privledge to read this ARC was my first ARC!!! and Honestly really enjoyed this read, the characters felt like real people the drscriptive details set up for every scene! The book got me out of my book rutt! Hoping for sequals! I need more Silas and Keanna!
Its fast paced!!! Beautiful descriptive writing and ny first urban fantasy and its now become ome of my fave genre, slow burn love! Its such a great detailed read!
This book exceeded my expectations (and I had high expectations too, so that's saying something!). The relationship progression was beautiful. The action was intense and engrossing. The spice was a-spicing.
Keanna and Silas made a great team and an even better couple. I just love them 🥹 Both are victims of their circumstances but find a modicum of peace and joy amidst the storm together.
The side characters are show stealers for sure. Just excellent characters. Watching the characters navigate difficult and dangerous situations was stressful. The action sequences were just so well done!!
Real issues of being kidnapped actually addressed on page! 🙌🏻👏🏻 Y'all. They address the "Ok, but what about her periods?" issue and the "Ok, but that would be very painful long-term" shackles issue. I'm telling you, it's the DETAILS in this book. Just a spectacularly written story.

It’s been a while since I dove into a fantasy book and what better way to get back into this genre then with an Urban Fantasy read.
Keanna and Silas had a moment of instant connection because her entire world changed forever. 1 year later she is taken off the streets to be use as a weapon in the hunt for her Kidnappers daughter. As the story progresses you see Keanna and Silas reconnect and learn to trust one another through the turbulent world they are in. As they both strive to do the right thing when faced with some impossible choices.
There were a number of twists and turns throughout the story that kept you on your toes, not quite knowing what was around the corner and how it was going to impact the characters choices. I really loved seeing Keanna come into her own and learn to control / work with her inner being. It was refreshing to have a story centred around Banshee’s as it’s nothing something I tend to come across. I really enjoyed how the Sarah wove their lore into a mafia style universe.
I have to give a shout out to the side characters, some of them really did steal the show with their humour at times!
✨Urban Fantasy ✨Forced proximity ✨Mafia vibes ✨Banshee x Mages ✨X-men meets Godfather
This has to be one of my top reads for 2024..The book I didnt know I needed to read
This is only the second supernatural / urban romance books I have read. Its not a genre I would usually pick BUT, I all about supporting my local authors so I dove in and dammit I didn't disappoint
Keanna is a banshee with a very coveted talent. Her scream is deadly. Sheltered her whole life by her father she chances a meeting with a mage Silas, sparks fly and next thing we know she is being kidnapped and used for her talent by a monster (or so she thinks) who is also searching for his daughter who he believes has also been kidnapped.
Queue: Supernatural's, twists and turns, betrayal, emotions, secret passages, secret societies and in the middle Keanna, a girl who is finding her way with her banshee, finding her power, embracing it and becoming the fearless and brave women she was destined to be
Sarahs writing was profound, the story was heart breaking, frustrating and beautifully written. I loved all of the character so much (cactus socks IYKYK) and wrapped up in a tragically beautiful HEA - This book has been a welcome change in my reading I look forward to reading more of Sarahs stories
"Control My Night" by Sarah L. Richhelm is not just a supernatural thriller—it's a rollercoaster of twists and turns that will keep readers coming back for more. Just when you think you have the story figured out, Sarah throws a curveball that leaves you reeling and hungry for the next shock. From unexpected betrayals to shocking revelations about the true nature of the characters' abilities, each twist in the plot adds layers of complexity and intrigue, which kept me up all night and on the edge of my seat until the very end. Sarah has a talent for crafting suspenseful and unpredictable storytelling ensuring that there is never a dull moment, with surprises lurking around every corner. The twist in "Control My Night" isn't just a cheap ploy—it's an integral part of the narrative that deepens the mystery and raises the stakes for the characters. As the plot unfolds and secrets are revealed, I honestly found myself gripped by a sense of anticipation, eagerly turning pages to uncover the next twist in the tale, all the while yelling SILAS!!! Whether you're a fan of supernatural fiction or simply love a good mystery, "Control My Night" delivers in spades. With its gripping plot, well-developed characters, and jaw-dropping twists, this book is sure to keep you hooked until the very last page—and leave you craving more long after you've finished. I was fortunate enough to be able to read this book as an advanced copy, my review is true and honest and I LOVE a Aussie author! Thank you Sarah!

4.5/5 ✨ Can I just say wow and leave it at that? Fast-paced urban fantasy with no shortage of action and the perfect addition of a medium-burn romance that’s NOT TOXIC? Count me IN! Think mafia wars + superpowers + found family = this book. Loved the plot, loved the characters for the most part, and I LOVED that there was a massive jaw drop moment that took me completely by surprise. I was concerned at first because it felt like there were so many different elements at play, but Sarah did a fantastic job of bending them to her will and making them work amazingly within the story. The only things that would’ve bumped my rating up to a 5 star is if the FMC was a little less back and forth on her decision of how tolerant she was going to be in order to get out of her situations faster, and if the conclusion wasn’t as rushed and took up more pages. I would not be mad if this book was an extra 5 or so chapters! Aside from that, this read will take you on a ride but I promise you it is worth staying on for; publishes June 18th 🤩
Wow wow wow What a debut novel It's easily one of the best books I've read this year
Mafia x urban paranormal fantasy x slow burn romance
It was fast-paced, action filled, plot and character driven with twists and turns.
Sarah's writing is unique it had me hook line and sinker, and I couldn't put the book down. I found myself immersed in the story, in the streets of Prague.
The first half explored the characters, the world building up to an explosive second half.
The main character was so relatable, her flaws, her struggles, her need to people please, her bravery despite the amount of fear she had. And Silas, how could you not help but fall in love with him. All the side characters were so well written.
This book is everything I needed and will be living in my head for a long time to come. If Sarah writes it, I'll read it.
If I could give this book 6 stars I would. The emotional roller coaster and the edge of your seat action was absolutely top notch. I loved each character and how they all have their own important place in the story.
This is part of our travelling annotated book so I’ll update my review with everything once I get it back.
Different, Catchy, excellent action and suspense!! Keeps you on your toes .. Love the Prague setting and the underworld..really enjoyed the mythical connection to real life ancient lore. Very well written!
The main character's growth from a cowed, quiet people pleaser into her own woman is inspirational and delightful. A unique set of powers and villains in a fantastic setting round out this paranormal bombshell. Excited to see what's next from this new author!
This fast-paced, gritty urban fantasy definitely delivered on its promise of nostalgic CW show vibes. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, a fantastic twist got me in the end. The romantic subplot was very sweet, but Steadman will forever be my favorite character.
It’s time to enter our mafia era, besties. Five stars isn’t even enough for this one.
It’s rare I find books that pull me in and fully immerse me in their world. Control My Night by Sarah L. Richhelm is one of the few that have successfully done that.
The gritty urban fantasy setting with a relatable and flawed protagonist, clever humor, hot characters galore, heart-twisting romance, emotional undercurrents, unexpected plot twists, and thrilling action sequences remind me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the TV series) and the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning, two of my all-time favorites.
Sarah hits all the right notes to make this story satisfying from start to finish. It’s beautifully crafted with sharp pacing and a great balance of emotional gut punches and exciting action sequences. I loved the unique mixture of elements (such as the Prague setting, the banshee protagonist, and the supernatural mafia) that made it stand out from others in the genre. It’s a fresh take with a strong voice that excites me for the next projects she has in store.
The characters feel so real and alive on the page, I’d swear I could bump into any of them in real life. (I’d particularly like to bump into Steadman; I think most readers of Control My Night would agree with me.) The world we’re dropped into with Keanna is dark and violent, but a sweet, tender love story at the heart of the book is a beautiful reminder that fairytales can exist even in the most grim realities. I loved Keanna’s growth as a character and her journey to (literally and figuratively) finding her voice, autonomy, and inner strength. It’s an experience I think most (if not all) of us can relate to in some form or another, especially as women existing in a patriarchal world. You’ll probably want to reread this book at least once to appreciate all the brilliant layers, subtext, and themes Sarah has weaved through the story.
Highly recommend Control My Night to anyone who loves dark fantasy hidden among our real world, forbidden romance (with both sweetness AND steam), flawed and morally grey characters, and action that takes your breath away as often as the romance.
Did I mention it has a sexy, tortured cinnamon roll love interest? AND multiple hot mobsters (of both sexes)? Welcome to your next binge-read.
I don't even know where to start. Richhelm's writing is so engaging, interacting and down right addictive. She has weaved an amazing story with a narrator who is both naive and wise.
I have always loved a sneak peak into mafia and this X-Men inspired novel is next level. If you take nothing away, this story is full of ups and downs.
My favourite arc is to watch Keanna change and grow through the story - as a character should when something traumtic like being kidnapped happens. I love this story and there are so many standout scenes that have you kicking your feet with glee. Just a few to mention in case you need reasons to read this amazing book: garden scene x 2, library, club and cactus socks.
Control My Night is an amazing debut by Richhelm and I can't wait to be thrown back into her world all over again.
It's been a while since I've read this genre, but I've always enjoyed it and I'm glad I picked this up. Overall, I would reccommend especially if you are looking for an urban fantasy romance crime-boss vibe. Of note, there is spice, violence, and killing in this novel.
3.75/5 ( I rounded up)
First off thank you Sarah for the ARC!
I initially had a difficult time getting fully immersed in it, but that may just be me, as I couldn't pin point a why. Eventually about 1/3 of the way in I was invested and was reluctant o put the book down. The pacing was good, lots of action parts.
I enjoyed her characters and their development! I think our main girl had the most development, but Steadman had the most complex layers to him and is the most "interesting" in that regard.
Though not deeply fleshed out, the world of mages and the Sect are interesting and I would love to read another story set in this world. The workings of the banshees and their powers were slightly more delved into. I enjoyed reading something modern but different from vampires and wearwolves.
Also, what I particularly appreciated is she does a fantastic job in the first person voice. She writes in a way the character would actually think, which I don't see done quite so perfectly very often. Also VERY much appreciated that while you get her sense of attraction etc. to her love interest and it's very present, it doesn't sound like a hormone driven 15 year old like in some popular books these days nor is it so overwhelming to the story that it's irritating (ahem fourth wing ahem). I loved the connection she forged between them. It was a good balance.
~My negatives below have some small spoilers!!~
Some negatives, I would say that I could pretty much predict part of the twist at the end, but not all of it. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the nickname from her love interest (Keeks). Also, I thought it was little of an odd choice to have her be a virgin- I don't think this really adds that much to the story, it's not really needed to highlight her naivety or innocence- you already get a good sense of that through her revelations and inner dialog, so I think that first time with the love interest could have done without that layer.
I've read this book in a variety of stages, early drafts and the finished product, but I was only able to do that and still love this book because Control My Night is such a fun, steamy, grungy, banter-filled, action-packed, ride that's also full of absolute heart. It made it easy on me.
In it you’ll find: ✨a midsized heiress / banshee MC who goes from people pleaser to badass with the help of some found family (I felt very seen by this character, since I've gone on my own journey with radical acceptance of my body / worked on my own people pleasing tendencies). ✨brooding men in suits, brooding men in ripped jeans, brooding men with blood on their hands ✨Monica Bellucci. Just insert Monica Bellucci. You’re welcome. ✨a quippy bi disaster who’s always getting shot at—an angel in doc martens ✨cinnamon roll swoons, forbidden hand brushes, that fluttery TWINGE that’s the hallmark of well-written angst
You should know EVERYONE’S HOT, EVERYONE’S SHIPPABLE. And there are companion novels in the works for said hot, shippable characters 😘.
This is one of those books that's easy and a great escape but also lingers. It's a CW show that you keep putting on because it hits every time, even when it's a little cheesy in the best ways. You might want to write fanfiction 😘. And the upcoming companion stories basically do. I have a feeling the next book is going to be the one that really sets its hooks in me, but only because I fell in love the with side characters as much as I did Keanna and Silas. Can't wait!
This book was just brilliant! Where do I start? Well too begin with I really appreciated the trigger warnings at the beginning not something I have seen before. My first impression is that Sarah's use of language is very elegant. Then I went on to appreciate the fast paced action packed story line. I loved the richness and vulnerability of her characters. I absolutely loved her strong female characters and her ability to write such complicated personalities. I really appreciated her high level of social and emotional intelligence. I loved her examples of what respect and consent look like. Sarah's examples of gaslighting and manipulation and how powerful social conditioning is. I thought the idea that the protagonist's power had a separate personality was fascinating. It made me wonder if it was indeed a separate entity or dissociative behaviour. I really appreciated how Sarah showed the psychopathy of man to be the true evil of the world. I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns of how the readers perception of intentions and motives of the individual characters changed as the story evolved. The geography and world building is brilliant. I don't think I have read a book before that feels like a high action movie that leaves you breathless on the edge of your seat! This was that, artfully crafted and interwoven with real friendship, family, romance, beauty, love, greed violence, horror and true evil. I was deeply affected by this book; this really is a must read for all women! Thank you Sarah for this gift.🦋
Sometimes you read a story where you are instantly drawn to the characters and pulled in to a world you never want to leave. For me..... Control My Night by Sarah Richhelm was that kind of story. From the beginning until the very end I was hooked. Instantly, the plot not only had me holding my breath but I found myself so intrigued and desperate to know where this story was going to take me. The solution?? Absolutely devour this story as quick as possible.
It had it all..... - Slow Burn (with a sprinkle of spice) - Urban Fantasy - Banshees and Mages - Twists and Turns - Angst - Mafia vibes - Action - Suspense
Like many good stories, I both loved and hated some of the characters. However...... Our main characters Silas and Keanna I adored. Silas is such a sweet, caring, protective, loyal and charming soul. Loved and need more of him!!!! While my heart went out to Keanna. Keanna has some unwanted 'abilities' she doesn't know how to control. Because of her abilities she finds herself in a dark and deadly situation. Given that this book is only from Keanna's POV gosh didn't she take me on an emotional and twisted journey. Keanna may have despised the situation she found herself in but she still showed some serious strength and determination when trying to find answers and a resolution.
Even though I was not ready to let these characters go, I loved the ending. And.... With a number of intriguing secondary characters, I can't wait for more of this world!! Loved and Highly Recommend!
TW: Violence (Mafia themes), death, spicy scenes (one scene involves 3 people/one scene involves 2 people)
I have been missing out on Indie Authors & I need to read more Indie books! I've seen the artworks of Control my Night, and that only made me want to check it out. Control my Night is an urban fantasy, romance, supernatural Mafia, which isn't in my usual book pile, but I'm so glad I kicked off Aussie August with this!
I will say there was one chapter I didn't feel comfortable reading (this for my own reason) and sped through it pretty quickly. The rest of the book, I needed to know what was going to happen next.
Also, it was refreshing to have an MC tell their other half the truth straight away - no sitting on it for it to come out later, ultimately destroying the relationship. It was "I just found out & I'm telling you now."
Keanna Backus is a business smart heiress living in Prague. After moving from Australia to Prague, she continues to live a sheltered life, working for her father. However, she is hiding a dangerous secret. She is a banshee, untrained, and has a deadly wail.
When going to collect a gift for Father's birthday, she is kidnapped by another powerful figure in Prague, Arwood Sayer. His daughter is missing & believes Keanna is the key to help find her.
Forced to work with Arwood & his team, including the mage Silas, Keanna must decide whether she wants to go back to life she thought she knew or embrace her heritage & powers to become the woman she is meant to be.
Urban fantasy is my comfort genre: I love a captivating world that makes me feel as if magic is around every corner, and Control My Night DELIVERED.
In a reimagined version of Prague, Keanna has a deadly secret: a scream that can kill. When a very dangerous, very cunning mob boss somehow discovers her power, he snatches her up with the intent of honing her into a weapon.
Determined to earn her freedom, she plays along and soon discovers there are many others with powers like her. They all have secrets and reasons for working with the enemy—incl. Silas, a mage who captures her heart.
X-men vibes with a supernatural twist: that’s how I’d describe this book. It was action-packed and yet still managed to maintain its descriptive, gorgeous prose.
I literally could not put it down.
Every character was so unique. Even Keanna’s magic, responding to her as if it were a beast she needed to understand and work with. It was beautiful to see her break out of her “cage” and come to not only accept but nurture that part of herself. And Silas… I loved the way he ✨ saw ✨ her.
This book is perfect if you love found family, forbidden romance, steamy slow burns, morally gray characters, finding your power, forced proximity, and mental health rep.
Thank you to the author for this ARC of this book!

Tropes: ✨Urban/paranormal fantasy romance 🖤Supernatural mafia ✨ Found family 🖤 Slow burn ✨ Forced proximity 🖤 Forbidden romance ✨ Morally grey characters
My Thoughts:
“Control My Night” is so unique compared to what I usually read. I often stay away from mafia romance book but I was convinced to read this one by the supernatural mafia context and also the Prague setting.
I loved the relationship between Keanna and Silas… Even if it was a torturous slow burn 😂😍 I really adored how they met, and particularly how they became “garden buddies”… such a cute background to their relationship.
There were a few revelations that were shocking… But the ending to the book was just right. I’m kind of sad that Keanna and Silas’s story is already over. But I’m also keen to see Anika find love, which I believe may happen in Germany?!?!
Just a generally well written book 😍 Great for anyone who loves both mafia and fantasy romance books.
