Let’s be realistic. We outgrow things. Despite the odds, we reset our parameters to favor something that is life changing. A significant breakthrough has to happen, and someone at some point in time has to be on fire to challenge routines. Someone will be aggressive enough to fight inefficiency borne out of excessive conformity. And no matter how costly these advancements are, we all pay for it. It is because no one simply thrives by living backwards.
How about Christianity today? How have we fared in terms of really abiding in Christ? Have we been living the life of abundance that Jesus promised or are we content in just getting by? With the awareness of God’s love and provision, how come most of us are still frustrated? What is it that hinders us from being truly triumphant as Christians?
Michael Catt, author of the book Upgrade, renews our thinking about real victorious Christ-like living. His work is compartmentalized into three main sections. The first part uncovers the reasons why most believers do not fully experience the override that only God can give. The next section details how an upgrade can be received through the constant enablement of the Holy Spirit and consequent human responsibility. The concluding segment, on the other hand, explains the perspectives that we need to uphold to be able to acknowledge the eminence of Jesus in our lives.
Each chapter harps on the importance of being on the winning side by constantly walking with the Lord. The book provides concrete points on what journeying with God really means. It appeals to the hearts of the readers, rekindling within us the sensitivity to the Spirit’s prodding and anointing. It calls upon every believer to never settle with mere routines and press on towards being genuinely transformed into the image of Christ.
A reader can definitely expect relevant biblical support and their practical applications presented in a straightforward manner. With less than 200 pages, the material can be read in two sittings. The subtopics are synthesized and can be ideally used in small group discussions.
There are messages in Upgrade that definitely struck a chord with me. The first section gently rebuked me about how my actions reveal mediocrity and quench the work of the Holy Spirit. In the final part of the material, my attention got refocused on the degrees of visibility of Christ’s power in my life. These topics helped me recognize the deceptions I bought into that prevented me from appropriating the privileges possessed by a child of God. Apparently, a life lived apart from Christ is a pure waste, and we deprive ourselves of the heavenly benefits by copping out of the spiritual battle.
If we are convinced that we are called to overflow and take advantage of continuous upgrades in Christ, this book gives you the take off you need. It is high time that we break free from doing works of the flesh and start counting on the Lord’s leading. Upgrade has the marching orders that will guide you in striking a balance between having solid knowledge of the Word, exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit, and functioning well in the real world by living side by side with Christ.
